Tianjin Quanjian manager Fabio Cannavaro has admitted making an approach for Wayne Rooney but says he will not be signed because he doesn’t suit their style of play.

Rooney’s time at United seems over after growing unhappy with his reduced role under Jose Mourinho. He has an offer worth £35million a year from the Chinese Super League, whose transfer window closes on Tuesday, but Cannavaro says talk of a move to his side was merely ‘chit-chat’.

The 2006 World Cup winner added he would rather sign Nikola , the former Blackburn striker now at Fiorentina, than the Manchester United and England captain and also had an attempt to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund turned down.

‘We did make an approach for Rooney, but it was just chit-chat because he simply doesn’t suit our style of play,’ Cannavaro said to Tianjin TV of United’s all-time leading scorer.

‘Our prime target is still Kalinic but it’s quite difficult for his club (Fiorentina) to let him leave at the moment. Under such circumstances, we are caught in a dilemma. I need to communicate with our managing director.’

United boss Mourinho was coy on Rooney’s United future at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of his side’s Europa League clash with St-Etienne. Rooney did not travel with the squad to France.

Rooney trained at Carrington on Tuesday but will not feature for United in France.

    Classical Rooney overtakes Bobby Charlton

Stoppage time strike was all that was needed to hand Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney his 250th goal overtaking the club’s record goal scorer and legend Sir Bobby Charlton

The free-kick was within shooting range but it did not really translate into true scoring chance. Off to the far side of the box, it was an awkward angle. A cross seemed sensible.

But Rooney knew otherwise. He ran and struck the ball with such ferocity and precision it flew into the top corner and in an instant the title of Manchester United’s record scorer was his.

The 31-year-old points to the heavens after his moment of history at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon

Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant could only watch on as Rooney’s set piece curled into his top left-hand corner

Sir Bobby Charlton let out a gasp as he watched from the stands. He was at Old Trafford earlier this month for Rooney equalling his total of 249 set all those years ago and must be pleased the wait for Rooney to go further has not been too long.

Jose Mourinho will be even more satisfied the strike carried such meaning. Stoke away has been a bellwether for United in the years after Sir Alex Ferguson retired. David Moyes lost. Louis Van Gaal lost. And until Rooney’s late, late strike Mourinho looked like losing.

Not once have a team that would routinely collect three points at this stadium under Ferguson managed to find victory since the great manager left and while that run goes on Rooney at least saved his team from suffering another defeat that would have sucked the momentum from United’s campaign.

Ferguson was also in the stands watching and will doubtless have applauded along with United’s travelling fans who sung Rooney’s name as he walked off the pitch proudly.

Rooney breaks Man Utd scoring record with injury-time equaliser

Wayne Rooney on Saturday became Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorer with a sensational stoppage-time free-kick that rescued a point at Stoke City.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that substitute Rooney curled in from the left-hand corner of the penalty box for his 250th United goal, one more than Sir Bobby Charlton.

Stoke looked set for a third straight Premier League win, clinging to a lead given to them when Juan Mata poked Erik Pieters’ cross into his own net in the 18th minute.

Rooney, so often the fulcrum of the United side since joining from Everton as an 18-year-old in 2004, has had to make do with a bit-part role under Jose Mourinho this season.

Indeed, this 546th appearance came from the bench, but still delivered a moment of history.

United had been frustrated for so long by Stoke’s stoic defence and their own wastefulness, and a free-kick awarded just outside the home penalty area looked to be the visitors’ last chance as five minutes of added time ticked down.

Rooney, largely ineffective since joining the action, looked prime to cross, but instead arced a wonderful, dipping, right-footed shot inside the far post past the previously unbeatable Grant.

Not only did the 31-year-old pass the mark of Charlton that had stood since 1973, but he gave United a point that looked to have gone.

United wasted chances, hit the woodwork and were denied by Potters keeper Lee Grant.

But their 25th and final effort at goal preserved a 17-game unbeaten run, albeit if the dropped points mean they lose ground in the race for the top four.

They are three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and 11 off leaders Chelsea, who both play on Sunday. (NAN)

Wayne Rooney was certainly turning heads as he arrived to training in a bright orange Bentley GT.

The Manchester United captain arrived at the club’s Carrington complex in the £250,000 motor – the fourth supercar he’s been seen driving in three weeks.

Rooney, has also spotted in the front seat of a £104,000 BMW i8, a £50,000 Audi Q7 and a £112,000 Overfinch Range Rover Sport this month.

The collection of incredible cars is unlikely to have made much of a dent in the bank balance of Rooney, however, who is estimated to be worth around £80million.

The collection of incredible cars, such as this Range Rover Sport, is unlikely to have made much of a dent in the bank balance of Rooney, however, who’s estimated to be worth £80m

The England skipper is something of a petrol head, having owned several luxury motors during his career, including an Aston Martin, a Mercedes and a Cadillac.

His recent motoring exploits are certainly a far cry from the blue Ford Ka he owned while a teenage sensation at Everton.

The Liverpudlian was even given his own number plate for his first car – Roo N1 – before trading it in for a more exotic motor after leaving Everton for the Red Devils.

It comes as Rooney gets the chance to officially break Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United all-time scoring record on Saturday.

The 31-year-old moved level with the World Cup winner on 249 goals by scoring the opener in last weekend’s FA Cup third-round win against Reading.

He could officially break the record as Manchester United take on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

Rooney equals Charlton’s all-time scoring record

Wayne Rooney has equalled Bobby Charlton’s record and become the joint-leading goalscorer in Manchester United’s history.
The 31-year-old drew level with Charlton when he prodded home Juan Mata’s cross from close range in the seventh minute of the FA Cup encounter with Reading on Saturday which Man U won 4-0
Both now have 249 goals for the club, although the England captain’s total came in 543 appearances, while Charlton took 758 games to reach that number before leaving Old Trafford in 1973.
It has been a difficult season for Rooney – he has had to overcome losing his place in the starting XI at both club and international level, while he was also criticised for being pictured allegedly drunk while on international duty.
Rooney equalled the milestone after becoming United’s top European goalscorer in November when he passed Ruud van Nistelrooy to reach 39 continental strikes after netting against Feyenoord.
The forward joined United from Everton in 2004 for a reported fee of £25.6million and famously scored a hat-trick on his debut in a 6-2 Champions League win against Fenerbahce.
Rooney has twice hit his career-best tally of 34 goals in a season, in 2009-10 and 2011-12, while he has made it to double figures in all of his campaigns with the club.

Rooney equals Charlton’s Man United scoring record

England captain, Wayne Rooney, has moved level with Sir Bobby Charlton as Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The 31-year-old’s FA Cup strike against Reading on Saturday took him to 249 in 543 games, reaching the landmark 215 matches and four seasons quicker than Charlton, the BBC reports.

The record had stood since 1973 but Rooney now seems certain to beat it.

In 2015, Rooney surpassed World Cup winner Charlton’s England scoring record of 49 goals and has since taken his tally to 53.

The United landmark comes during a season in which the he has been left out of the starting line-up for both club and country, his record-equalling goal being just his fourth of the campaign.

  • Criticism hurting Rooney – Mourinho

    Criticism hurting Rooney – Mourinho

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has hit out at the Football Association’s failure to protect Wayne Rooney, saying a week of negative headlines involving the England captain has had “an effect.”

Rooney, 31, is expected to face Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday after training at Carrington following his departure from the England squad with a minor knee injury.

Since being released from Gareth Southgate’s squad, reports of Rooney allegedly drinking into the early hours at the England team hotel, with accompanying photographs, led to claims he could be stripped of England captaincy.

He has issued an apology and the Football Association has said it will be conducting a “proper investigation” into reports that members of England’s backroom staff had been with him.

While sources within the FA told ESPN no decision will be made on Rooney’s status until a permanent manager has been appointed, Mourinho suggested at a news conference that the FA had failed to properly look after Rooney.

“I am saying that I think even if you build a kind of wall around you to try to feel protected from what people write about you or think about you, the comments people make about you, even if you tried to build that wall, the wall has always points of fragility,” ESPN quoted the ex- Chelsea manager as saying on Saturday.

Swansea 1-3 Man United: Red Devils destroy Swans

A brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a goal from Paul Pogba helped Manchester United return to winning ways in the Premier League courtesy of a 3-1 victory over struggling Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Jose Mourinho made six changes to the side beaten by Fenerbahce in midweek, but the manager was forced to watch on from the stands as he served his one-match touchline ban after being sent off against Burnley last weekend.

It was one of the five to keep their place that almost gave United a lead after less than two minutes when Wayne Rooney – now just two goals short of Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time record for the club – curled an early effort narrowly past the far post.

Paul Pogba broke the deadlock for the visitors before a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent them into the halfway stage with a deservedly convincing lead, and they held out despite a Mike van der Hoorn consolation to condemn Swansea to a 10th straight Premier League match without a win.

It is now 10 league games without a win since the opening day of the season for Swansea and just one point from a possible 12 in charge for Bradley ahead of their meeting with Everton after the international break.

With this win Manchester United have avoid making their worst start to a Premier League campaign courtesy of the victory, climbing up to  sixth in the Premier League table with their first away league win since August.

Rooney to quit England duty in 2018

England record scorer, Wayne Rooney, will retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Manchester United forward spoke to the media after new England manager, Sam Allardyce, confirmed he would retain the 30-year-old as his captain.

“Come Russia I feel that will be the time to say goodbye to international football,” the BBC quoted Rooney as saying on Tuesday.

The ex- Everton striker has scored 53 goals in 115 England appearances.

If he plays in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier in Slovakia (17:00 BST kick-off), he will break David Beckham’s record for the most capped outfield England player.

“Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England, so I’m going to try to enjoy these two years and hopefully I can end my time with England on a high.”
