Tinubu’s achievements have shamed opposition – Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has said President Bola Tinubu’s achievements within two years in office have shamed the opposition.

Wike urged Nigerians and FCT residents to continue to support Tinubu, adding that he will support anybody that supports President Tinubu.

Wike declared the ongoing wave of infrastructure flag-offs and project commissioning across the territory represents an unprecedented record in the history of the FCT.

He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for reviving long-abandoned projects and restoring public confidence in governance.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Wuye Engineering Infrastructure Project, Wike challenged critics to name any previous administration that has matched the current pace of transformation under Tinubu’s leadership.

“If there’s any administration since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory that has done more than what we are doing, let them speak up now. Their silence says it all, this is leadership that is committed, leadership that is changing lives. Tinubu’s administration has shamed the opposition,” Wike declared.

According to the Minister, many of the projects being inaugurated today have been abandoned since 2009 due to non-payment of contractors.

He explained the Tinubu administration took decisive steps to revive them, leading to massive infrastructural development in the Gwagwalada District, including new road networks, sectoral arterials, tunnels, and utility services.

“When this administration came in, the President took immediate steps to revive what had been neglected. Within one year in office, major projects were completed, including the interchange that once caused traffic chaos in the area,” he noted.

Wike further announced that after 20 straight days of commissioning and inauguration events, the FCT Administration would take a short break before embarking on another 20-day phase focused on education development, where he promised to unveil the government’s achievements in schools and learning facilities across the capital.

“Our work is not only about roads and infrastructure; it also extends to education. For twenty more days, we will show Nigerians what we have done in that sector, and it will surprise many,” Wike said.

Expressing gratitude to FCTA staff, Area Council Chairmen, and Councillors, the Minister praised their dedication and described their efforts as record-breaking.

He reaffirmed commitment to supporting all political leaders who align with the President’s vision, adding that a “political tsunami” of performance-driven governance is sweeping through the territory.

Wike said: “Those in real estate used to complain: No roads, no infrastructure, our businesses are collapsing. Can you still say that today? Every day you see progress because infrastructure has been provided. That’s what development looks like.

“My dear people, look around you. If you live here, if you have property here, your conscience will tell you the truth, that leadership has returned to this country. The Renewed Hope Agenda is real. Forget my face; what matters is the work being done”.

Wike also commended the Area Council Chairmen and councilors for their partnership and commitment.

He said: “From Airport Road to Kuje, the results speak for themselves. Go there and see what this administration is doing. The difference is clear.

“We are not going to rush, we are going to shock them with what we have done in the education sector, so that they will know that President Tinubu’s administration is not only concentrating on the infrastructure in the FCT, as regards to the network of roads, it is also focusing on the education sector”.

2027: Report of Wike to run against Tinubu fake – Aide

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, yesterday described a report circulating online that he will run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election as falsehood and blackmail.

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications and Social Media to the minister, Lere Olayinka, in a statement said: “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031”.

He said the report circulated by an online platform, which he said is notorious for falsehood and blackmail, that a meeting was held by some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to “push” the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister to run for President in 2027 has been described as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

The FCT Minister’s spokesperson said it was shameful that the “pull Wike down” elements could not reason beyond such kindergarten tactics, adding that it was clear that they need better brains to think for them.

“Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says, and says what he does.

“The Minister has made it clear where he stands as far as the 2027 Presidential election is concerned. He is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka said.

He said the only meeting that took place on August 20, 2025 was that of PDP stakeholders from Southern part of Nigeria, and the purpose was the meeting scheduled for Lagos on August 21, 2025, by some elements to rubber stamp a decision to micro-zone party positions zoned to the South.

“Outcome of the meeting was made public via a press statement titled; ‘Re: Purported Meeting Of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit,’ signed by State Party Chairmen of Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Barr. Venatuis Ikem, Rt. Hon Aniekan Akpan and Aaron Chukwuemeka respectively, as well as the National Vice Chairman (South-East), Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon O. K. Chinda.

“Others who signed the press statement were Senators Igwe Nwagu, Mao Ohuabunwa, George Sekibo, Mike Ama Nnachi, former National Secretary, Rt. Hon. Onwe S. Onwe, Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, former Ebonyi State Legal Adviser, Barr. Mudi Erhenede, and others.

“Obviously, the above names were picked from the press statement published in all major newspapers and aired on national television stations, to advance the latest mischief.

“We know their intention though. But unfortunately for them and the platform they are using to propagate their idle plots, the person and character of the FCT Minister is known to everyone – he does not do anything in hiding.

“He has said it clearly that from now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will stand.

“To ensure the success of the President’s reelection, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT by actualizing the visions of the President for a federal capital city that can compete with other capital cities in the world in terms of infrastructural development.”

Demolished police properties: Wike angry over arrest of FCTA officials

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stormed Apo-Dutse District in Abuja, where 11 duplexes built by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under high-tension power lines were demolished.

Wike condemned what he described as a brazen abuse of power by the police, following the arrest and detention of FCT Development Control enforcement officials who carried out the demolition.

The minister said: “Government is here to enforce rules, not to break them. How can anybody take such a risk, building directly under high-tension lines?

“Even if there were no high tensions, once Development Control says no approval, nobody has the right to take the law into their hands just because they have force.”

According to him, the Nigeria Police had earlier applied for approval to develop the land, but the request was turned down on safety grounds.

“They refused to stop, they went ahead. When Development Control came here to do the right thing, the officers were arrested. That is unacceptable.

“I will take this up with the appropriate authorities, because this cannot stand,” Wike vowed.

He expressed shock that an institution charged with enforcing the law would openly violate planning regulations and endanger lives.

Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration would not hesitate to enforce planning laws, regardless of the status of the violator.

“Imagine the danger if these duplexes had been completed and people started living here. One spark and hundreds of lives would be lost. We cannot fold our arms and allow impunity in the name of development,” Wike warned.

The minister promised to formally raise the matter with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who he said was out of town and might not be aware of the development, insisting that Abuja’s master plan must not be compromised under any guise.

The Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, who accompanied the minister, disclosed that the disputed land – Plot 189, Cadastral Zone B14, Dutse – was allocated to the Police in 2018 for institutional development.

He explained that the department denied approval after observing that the plot fell directly beneath high-tension transmission lines and also within the route of a proposed flood-control bridge.

“We wrote to them clearly stating why we could not grant approval. They ignored our letters and notices, proceeded with excavation and construction, and even after we attached a copy of a letter from the Department of Engineering about the bridge, they still defied us.

“Yesterday, we had no option but to move in and enforce compliance. Unfortunately, our officials were detained by the police until the minister intervened.”

The Administration had on Thursday demolished the 11 duplexes for blatant violation of city planning regulations, warning that developers who ignore official directives will not only lose their investments but also face stiff penalties.

The duplexes, located along Garba Duba Street in Apo-Dutse District, were erected directly under high-tension electricity lines and across stream channels, raising serious safety and environmental concerns.

Galadima, who led the enforcement team, had said the owners were repeatedly warned but chose to defy the law.

2027: Wike attacks Obi, says he can’t be president

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike yesterday questioned the leadership qualities and capacity of the 2023 Labour Party (LP)’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to govern the country.

He said Obi would continue to contest as president on social media but not as the nation’s president .

Wike spoke at the inauguration of two new roads – ILS11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR24 (Kez Udezue Street) – in  Mabushi, Abuja.

The minister frowned at what he called  Obi’s constant criticisms of the government.

He said Obi lacks the integrity to lecture anyone on governance, having, according to him, failed as Anambra  State governor.

The minister advised the former governor to keep silent instead of criticising good governance.

Wike said: “You ran as president on the platform of  a party, and you cannot manage the party, ordinary party. You cannot manage to hold a  party together;  is it Nigeria of over 200 million people that you want to manage? Ordinary party of how many people? Crisis. You can’t hold them, but you want to manage a complex nation like Nigeria. It is not available for people like you. You can know a good dancer from the first step”.

Wike accused Obi of hypocrisy, saying that while he flaunts public shows of compassion, his record in Anambra State tells a different story.

He said: “Mr Peter Obi, we just came into office two years ago. We have not even stayed four years, but you stayed eight good years. Compare two years in office of what we have done in FCT with your eight years in office in Anambra. Can you really say you love this country? Can you really say you love Anambra? Certainly not. If I were you, I would be quiet. Why not be quiet? Enough is enough.

“You cannot be President of Nigeria only when you go to one IDP camp for a birthday party. ‘I went to celebrate my birthday party in an IDP camp…’ Who is interested in all those things? Doing your birthday party in an IDP camp does not make it feel that you love Nigeria or want to do anything for Nigeria.

“When you were a governor, why didn’t you do your birthday party in an IDP camp? It is now you want to be president. Every day, I am going to celebrate my birthday with the less privileged. Who will you deceive? Enough is enough.”

Wike  alleged that Obi prioritised personal profit over development during his eight years in office.

He said: “Some people, because of politics, castigate the government. For example, I heard one of the social media presidential candidates went to one of the local authority area schools and was saying that the government has abandoned public schools. In particular, his name is Mr Peter Obi.

“It is not everything you must play politics with. Peter Obi, you were governor for eight years in Anambra State. If you had finished all the jobs, nobody would be talking about developing Anambra by now.”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday questioned the leadership qualities and capacity of the 2023 Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to govern the country.

Wike said Obi will continue to contest as President on social media but not as president of Nigeria.

He spoke at the commissioning of two newly constructed roads – ILS11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR24 (Kez Udezue Street) – in the Mabushi area of Abuja.

The Minister faulted Obi’s constant criticisms of the government.

Wike said Obi lacks the integrity to lecture anyone on governance, having, according to him, failed as Anambra Governor.

Everything must not be propaganda. As the Minister of FCT, I cannot claim I know everywhere in Abuja. It is not possible. Wike tackles Obi over comments on condition of FCT schools

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has cautioned former Anambra Governor Peter Obi for faulting his administration in the nation’s capital.

Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA), on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Thursday, told Obi to rescue himself from the political wilderness that he is rather than jumping up and down, seeking media attention, by turning himself into critics of everything, including the most ridiculous.

Obi, who visited LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, had taken a swipe at the FCT administration over what he called the appalling condition of public schools in the FCT, describing it as a national disgrace that exposes Nigeria’s hollow commitment to education.

Olayinka, who said the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Wike was not operating the kind of “Mad Man Advice Induced Beer Parlour Development” that Obi did in Anambra State for eight years, added: “In the FCT, real and verifiable development is taking place.

“73 schools are presently being renovated across the six Area Councils in the FCT,  while 21 have been completely renovated.”

However, while admitting that there are still schools in the FCT deserving attention of the government,  Olayinka said: “Unlike Obi, who did nothing to uplift the education sector as Governor of Anambra State,  the Wike-led FCTA has been building and renovating schools.

“102 contracts have been awarded for renovation of schools in the FCT, and as at today,  21 schools have been completely renovated and works are ongoing in others.”

He challenged Obi to tell Nigerians how many schools he built in Anambra when he was Governor, adding that “If as Governor of Anambra State, he had performed the same magic he has been lying to Nigerians he could perform in four years, Anambra State would have become a reference point in terms of development.

“As Governor of Anambra State for eight years, he chose to keep the State’s money in his own bank instead of using the money to build schools, roads, hospitals and other critical infrastructure.

“Today, Anambra State is still suffering because of Obi’s eight years of mad man advice induced misgovernance, with his successors trying to fix the rot he left behind.

“The same Obi said yesterday that he can change the trajectory of Nigeria in four years and I am challenging him to show Nigerians how he changed that of Anambra State in eight years.”

Describing Obi as Internally Displaced Politician (IDP), looking for a permanent abode in the media space, the FCT Minister’s spokesperson said; “It is funny that someone who should be bothered that he does not have a platform to contest the 2027 election, has turned himself to a political wanderer.”

Olayinka asked; “Under which party is Mr One Shoe contesting the 2027 presidential election? Will any party still award its presidential candidate to him simply because he can lie about having one shoe and one wrist watch the way the Labour Party did in 2023?”

…flags off construction of the main carriageways on the outer southern expressway in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday said leaders and governors of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the capacity of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike said those who once criticised the president are now members of the APC.

He disclosed this at the flag-off of the construction of the main carriageways on the outer southern expressway in Abuja.

The minister said Tinubu has shown leadership and the ability to deliver the dividends of democracy.

Wike said he has been justified that Mr President is a performer, adding that the governors should rather commend him for “doing a good job” of paving the way for them to join the ruling party.

He said, “I have been watching on daily television and social media, people who said I want to destabilize the party, I am working for the APC. All of them are now in the APC. So, which means if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading. So, I should be commended for doing a good job for them”.

In the past 48 hours, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, resigned his membership of the PDP and joined the ruling APC, stating that his decision was in the interest of national development under President Tinubu’s leadership.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, also resigned his membership of the party on Wednesday, along with 19 members of the State House of Assembly, making the fourth PDP governor to defect ahead of the 2027 general elections, bringing the number of PDP governors from 11 as of October 2024, to only eight as of today.

The Minister noted that the governors no longer had an excuse as the “decisive leadership” of President Tinubu had ensured that every state had enough resources to pay salaries and embark on credible projects and activities.

Wike said, “Let every state be sincere to their people, and to Nigerians. I was a governor for eight years. I was a governor running around banks to look for money to do projects. Sometimes, every month, the money that comes will not be enough to pay salaries and all other allowances, not to talk about doing projects.

“Today, by the leadership of somebody, by the decisive leadership of somebody who has made it possible for all the states, and the Federal Capital Territory, not to be running around banks again. Rather, banks are now looking for states to say ‘look, don’t throw us away, we are here.

“Somebody has made that possible; every state now has money, not only to pay salaries, not only to carry out government activities, but also to embark on projects. It was not like that before”.

He described the decision to defect and support the Tinubu-led administration as “worthwhile”, adding that no governor will leave debts for their successors any longer, as it used to happen.

The minister said, “So, if, for that reason, so many people are going to support Mr President, I think it is worthwhile. Now, no governor will talk about leaving debts for his successor, unlike what used to happen before. That is the leadership of somebody.

“And that’s what this country needs for now. Visionary leadership, purposeful leadership, that will be able to make decisions. Decisions that people were running away from taking when they had the opportunity”.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a bold step toward easing traffic flow, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing mobility for residents across the Federal Capital Territory.

She said the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu constantly reminds Nigerians that progress is built not only in policy but in the visible transformation of lives and communities.

In the same breath, Mahmoud hailed the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering energy, foresight, and passion in ensuring that infrastructure development in the FCT is both meaningful and people-centered.

According to her, “under your watch, the FCT has truly become a construction powerhouse and a beacon of national renewal.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said he got President Bola Tinubu’s permission to be absent during the Council of State meeting.

Prof. Joash Amupitan was nominated as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission during the meeting.

Wike stated this during the commissioning of the Access Roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, in Abuja.

He dismissed as false and mischievous reports that he deliberately boycotted the meeting over dissatisfaction with the appointment of the new INEC.

“On Thursday, we had a flag off and I told the Minister of State, FCT, to represent me at the Council of State meeting.

“I had already told Mr President that I would not be available because of other engagements we had already put in place, and so, the honourable minister of state represented the FCT in that meeting.

“We have to be careful when people carry unnecessary propaganda and blackmail. But in spite of those things, be focused; you will achieve your results.

“They said I did not attend because I was not happy that my own nominee was not taken,” he said.

Wike maintained that he works for President Tinubu and that his delivery of projects in the FCT has silenced the critics.

…explains why he was absent at council of state meeting

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that he nominated or discussed with anyone about appointing a chairman for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Wike made the clarification on Tuesday during the commissioning of Access Roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, Abuja.

The minister described the reports as “cheap blackmail,” stressing that he is unbothered by such falsehoods.

He also addressed his absence from the recent Council of State meeting where Prof. Joash Amupitan was nominated as INEC Chairman, explaining that he delegated the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, to represent him due to prior official engagements.

Wike described the insinuations that he boycotted the meeting because his supposed nominee was rejected as “unnecessary propaganda and blackmail,” urging the public to disregard such claims.

Wike said, “Sometime last week, Thursday, we had a flag off. And I told the Minister of State, FCT, to represent me at the Council of State meeting. I had already told Mr President that I would not be available because of other engagements we had already put in place. And so, the Minister of State represented the FCT in that meeting.

“That is why we have to be careful when people carry unnecessary propaganda and blackmail. But in spite of those things, be focused; you will achieve your results. They said I did not attend because I was not happy that my own nominee was not taken”.

The Minister’s comments come days after the Council of State meeting, on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, where Prof Amupitan was nominated INEC Chairman, pending his confirmation by the Senate.

Meanwhile, online media platform, Sahara Reporters, stated that rifts between the Minister and President Bola Tinubu had deepened, causing the Minister to boycott the meeting and send the Minister of State in his place.

The report also stated that Wike had allegedly reached out to other Heads of State to boycott the meeting, and reportedly pushed for Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, a justice of the Court of Appeal, to be nominated and appointed as INEC Chairman.

Wike also commended the President for providing the right leadership, which he stated was responsible for the achievements made by the FCT Administration.

“I have always said, when you have the right leadership, you can achieve the expected results. Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has shown the right leadership. People are talking about the achievements we have made. It is because we have the right leadership. When you have the right leadership, you get things right,” he said.

Earlier, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a collective commitment to strengthening the pillars of justice and governance in the nation’s capital.

“This project is about honour, dignity, and institutional pride, providing befitting residences for our esteemed Heads of Courts whose wisdom and integrity uphold the rule of law in the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she affirmed.

She, therefore, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose visionary leadership continues to redefine infrastructure delivery across the nation and particularly within the FCT, just as she applauded the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his dynamic leadership, relentless drive, and practical commitment to transforming Abuja’s infrastructure landscape.

The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has applauded President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for their roles in restoring democratic governance in Rivers State.

In a statement signed by its national president, Comrade Ekene Frank, and issued in Uyo on Friday, the group also cautioned youths, elders, and stakeholders in Rivers State against inflammatory statements or actions capable of plunging the state back into political crisis.

According to NDYM, Rivers State — being the central point of the Niger Delta — must remain peaceful for stability and progress to resonate across the region.

“The Niger Delta Youth Movement, as the umbrella youth organization in the region, is delighted that full democratic governance has resumed in Rivers state,” the statement read.

The group commended President Tinubu for his leadership in restoring peace, the Akpabio-led National Assembly for its support, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other stakeholders for their sacrifices toward reconciliation and harmony in the state.

NDYM urged both Wike and Fubara to refrain from actions or utterances that could reignite tension, while calling on their supporters and Rivers youths to maintain peace and view themselves as future leaders.
