    Indomie Instant Noodles has rewarded the first batch of winners in its ongoing Indomie “You Like No Other” promo, which kicked off in October.

    The promo is aimed at rewarding consumers of the brand, and also give back to the society.

    Speaking at the presentation, the General Manager, Dufil Prima Foods PLC, Mr. Girish Sharma, said: “The promo was conceived to celebrate, recognise and reward consumers of the brand in a superlative way, as there are prizes worth over N600 million to be won, and so far about 5,000 winners have emerged since the promo began barely a month ago.”

    “The promo is going to run till the month of December, and for us as a brand, it is one of the ways we seek to put smiles on the lips of our consumers in this season, as there are lots of prizes to be won in a very easy and straightforward manner.’’

    The firm’s Group Public Relations and Events Manager, Mr. Tope Ashiwaju, said the brand through the promo simply seeks to celebrate the uniqueness in everyone, and also reward the loyalty of its numerous consumers who have stood with the brand through the years.

  • Joint winners emerge in CNN Multichoice African Journalists award

    Two winners, Asha Ahmed Mwilu and Rashid Idi have been awarded the top prize at this year’s CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2016 Awards Ceremony.

    The duo shared the overall CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award for their combined work, Terror Crossing, which was chosen from record number of 1,637 entries spanning 38 countries across the African continent.

    Mwilu and Idi’s Terror Crossing is described as an in-depth investigative documentary about security at the Kenya-Somali border in Mandera county. The story was aired by Kenya Television Network in its investigative programme, The Lead.

    “We are overwhelmed by this accolade. It is a dream come true to win the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Award for a story that we believe passionately in and one that we felt was important to tell,” they said.

    Yolisa Phahle, CEO of M-Net, and Greg Beitchman, VP, Content Sales and Partnerships, CNN International, presented Mwilu and Idi with the Award at a Gala Awards ceremony held at the Gallagher Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    Mwilu and Idi, winners in the News Impact Award, were among 38 finalists from 15 countries who attended the Awards ceremony as the culmination of an all-expense paid four-day programme of workshops, media forums and networking in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    Meanwhile, Yemisi Akinbobola, Ogechi Ekeanyanwu & Paul Bradshaw, IQ4News for Premium Times, Nigeria were joint winners of the Sport Reporting Award.

  • National Robot Olympiad, three winners for India global contest

    Two public and one private schools would be heading for the World Robots Olympiad in India having emerged winners of the National Robot Olympiad competition.

    Imperial Gate School Lekki, Lagos, emerged first in the elementary Category, Model College, Meiran Lagos dusted others in the junior category, while Surrogate Achievers clinched the crown to wrap up the junior category.

    Expressing her joy on Saturday at  Oriental Hotel Lekki venue of the event , representative of Imperial Gate School Sandra Umeh who won at the open category scoring an astounding 200 over 300, expressed her excitement in victory.

    Sharing her experience, Umeh said robotics challenges an individual’s creativity, constant thinking and practice to achieve success.

    Meanwhile, Mr Bayo Biyeye, the Director of Science and Technology, Lagos State Ministry of Education praised the Lagos State government for showing enthusiasm in robotics.

    Biyeye, who described the exercise as laudable, noted that the competition has enjoyed government support over the last five years.

    He said: “The state government has also provided Leego kits for our schools. We want to make sure that the schools have the kits so that the children can practice.

    “It is a good programme and an application of Information Communication Technology,” he said.

    Head, Infant School Meadow Hall School, Lekki, LagosMrs Bisola Obasanya said robotics promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics among children.

    Obasanya said about 22,000 particpants globally from across public and private primary, secondary and tertiary institutions feature in the completion before arriving at the qualifier.

    She said robotics had made children to be creative and think out of the box.

    “Kids like it (robotics) a lot, it is not like the normal regular boring school work.

    “Whenever they are on their own, it looks as if they were playing with toys but they are learning in actual sense.

    “Kids love Leego education, children learn through it; it is a different way of teaching,” she added.

    She, however, praised the Lagos state government for the support given to robotics or Leego education in the state.

    Prior to the grand finale, competitions were held across states and regional levels nationwide which eventually climaxed in the 48 finalists that competed for the crown at the sixth edition of National Robotics Olympiad qualifier.

    Fidelity Bank Plc  has  rewarded its savings account customers with gifts and cash prizes worth millions of naira.

    The winners emerged from the lender’s first draw in its ongoing Get Alert in Millions promo, where it is expected to give out N105 million at the end of the exercise.

    Speaking at the opening ceremony of the promo in Lagos, its  Managing Director/CEO, Nnamdi Okonkwo, said the promo, which  is the sixth in a series, would help to deepen the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) financial inclusion project and improve the standard of living of its customers.

    He said winners in yesterday’s promo went home with N9 million cash prizes and several consolation prizes. The star prize winner, Abiche Mary, won N3 million while Umar Yahaya, Ogadimma Jacintha, Damilola Olufemi won N1 million each. Consolation prizes of refrigerators, generating sets were also won.

    He said the bank, as a highly reputable financial institution, is committed to satisfying the needs of its customers, with the promo meant to encourage customers and members of the public to imbibe a savings culture.

    “There is a correlation between savings and economic development. Savings serve as a veritable instrument for capital mobilisation to finance aggregate investment required for economic growth. As an active participant in the Nigerian economy, we are supporting the federal government by making savings available for critical infrastructure deployments that would aid socio-economic development,” he said.

    Okonkwo, who was represented by the bank’s Executive Director, Shared Services and Products, Chijioke Ugochukwu, said: “In all, over 200 winners will emerge inclusive of consolation prizes such as fridges, generators among others.”

    African Travel Awards winners shortlisted

    The process for the selection of the 2016 Africa Travel Awards winners has started this month. The awards are for Africans to choose what they consider the best players on the travel and tourism landscape in Africa.

    A pan-African committee of travel professionals from different countries in Africa drew up a shortlist of nominees to be voted for by the public. The criteria for the choices were listed alongside the nominees.

    This will be the 4th edition. According to organiser, Mr. Ikechi Uko,the awards will be coming up on October 30 at the Travellers Night Dinner during Akwaaba African Travel Market. 22 awards will be given out. The committee members are drawn from East, West, South and Central Africa and it is not surprising that most of the nominees are from Sub-Saharan Africa.

    The committee members include: Denis Gathanju, a passionate journalist and photographer based in East Africa; Sandra Idossou is an Afropolitan hotelier, trainer, mystery shopper, consultant, writer, author, traveller, publisher;  Chiquita Afuluenu Johnson is the former national tourism consultant for the Republic of Liberia and CEO of West Tourism Management; Monique Swart is the Founder of the African Business Travel Association (ABTA).

    Other members include Ali Diouf, an experienced journalist from Senegal, Sheikh Tejan; and an experienced tourism administrator from The Gambia. Charity Githinju, a travel expert based in Tanzania. Siphelele Luthuli is a travel consultant and communication expert from South Africa. Khomotso Kelsall also a South African-based travel consultant. From Uganda is Barbra Adoso, a leading tour operator, and Nancy Sam Quartey from Ghana. Other tour operators include Benin Republic-based Olanma Ojukwu and Fifi Rurungwa, a Kenyan-based Rwandan operator. Rwanda- based Catherine Mutuale, Nigerian based Atinuke Nwakohu and Kenyan Annet Nashipae are all travel consultants. The Ghanaian journalist Samuel Doe is joined by Nigerian blogger Olori Supergal and Tunis Silas from The Gambia.

    Osinbajo, Airtel, Zuckerberg hail Aso Villa Demo Day winners

    Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Airtel and co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg have commended all the participants of the Aso Villa Demo Day, a presidential initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and innovation through the use of new and emerging technologies.

    Airtel, one of the major sponsors of the initiative, endowed and presented cash prizes to the top three participants.

    The presentation, which held at the Aso Villa at the weekend, was attended by Prof Osinbajo, Airtel Chief Executive Officer, Segun Ogunsanya; Information Minister Lai Mohammed,Communications Technology Minister Adebayo Shittu, Zuckerberg, and CEOs from various sectors across corporate Nigeria.

    Osinbajo congratulated all the participants, saying they were all winners. While lauding the country’s youth for their innovation, creativity, drive and entrepreneurial spirit, the Vice President said there was so much hope in what the young generation could do.

    He hinted that the Federal Government is exploring ways to cooperate with Facebook in the next few months.

    Ogunsanya reaffirmed Airtel’s commitment to pioneering innovation in the telecoms industry as well as seeking credible platforms to support the government and the youth.

    Zuckerberg said it was inspiring to see what young Nigerians had done in app development and use of technology.

    He said his trip had afforded him the opportunity to see the talents that abound in the country. He noted that the youth would not just shape the country but will shape the whole world.

    Winners receive N15m in Zakat competition

    Eight persons comprising four males and females have emerged  overall winners in the second edition of Entrepreneurship Development Project (EDP) organised by Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF).

    Twelve others were given consolation prizes.

    The competition, ZSF said, was meant to reward young people with outstanding business ideas.

    Tagged: Business Plan Competition (BPC), the presentation of prizes and plaques was held at the Westwood Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

    According to ZSF Operations Manager Mallam Ahmed Ma’aruf, the initiative is tailored towards empowering youths with business ideas either at conceptual level known as “Idea track” or transitional stage known as “Business Growth”.

    ZSF Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Prince Sulayman Olagunju said the BPC was initiated last year to cushion the effect of economic hardship.

    Olagunju said N15 million was expended on the competition.

    He said: “It is no longer news that the economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians and worsened by increase in youth unemployment, Boko Haram insurgency, militancy, kidnapping cum armed robbery and the high cost of living confronting the youths in nation building”

    According to him, “the tree we planted together last year, has grown up favourably and it has started yielding fruits that gave us more impetus to continue this competition despite low sponsorship.

    “The number of participants increased from 128 last year to 165 this year. This increase in number of participants made our consultant and his team to spend more time in screening the participants. The consultant and experts did a marvellous job to produce the winners we are rewarding today.

    “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, please join me in congratulating all the winners and the finalists present here today. They have indeed performed well and all of them deserved to be commended and rewarded handsomely. However, due to low sponsorships received, we shall be rewarding the winners as follows: the first position in the Growth Track will go home with the sum of N1.5Million, the second – N1 million, the third  – N750,000 and N500,000 for the fourth position. The first, second, third and fourth winners in the Idea Track category will go home with the sum of N1million, N750,000, N500,000 and N250,000 respectively. All the remaining finalists shall go home with consolatory prizes of N100,000 each.”

    Prince Olagunju urged the winners to use the fund judiciously to take your businesses to the next level as a demonstration of competence and confidence repose in them by the team of experts.

    Chairman on the occasion, Ambassador Adamu Babagida Ibrahim said there is no better time to encourage the ZSF noble and lofty project than now.

    Ambassador Ibrahim, the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of Jaiz Foundation said: “Therefore, Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation’s intervention at this auspicious time is a welcome development that should be supported by well-meaning individuals and corporate citizens in order to complement the efforts of government in the delivery of socio economic welfare services to the less privileged youths.

    “I commend the board and management team of ZSF for encouraging the youths to be job creators and not job seekers. The practical steps taken by the foundation is a testimony of its commitment and passion to empower the youths through the window of its entrepreneurship development project code-named Business Plan Competition. You will agree with me that this is another better way to assist the youths as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

    “I am equally filled with joy to know that not only the finalists will be rewarded with prizes and certificates of participation but all the runner-up contestants will also be appreciated financially by the foundations as a way of encouraging them to do better in the years ahead.”

    He implored well to do Muslims and non-Muslims to “support the entrepreneurship initiative so that individually and collectively, we can move the Nigerian project forward.”

    Four FCMB promo winners get N1m each

    First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has rewarded 644 customers at the second draw of its ongoing promotion tagged: FCMB Millionaire Promo Season 3.

    The winners emerged yesterday during the electronic selection which took place across the four regions and 25 zones of the bank nationwide.

    While four customers of the were rewarded with the sum of N1 million each at the regional draws in Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt (Rivers states) and Ilorin (Kwara State).

    Also 640 customers won different prizes such as LED televisions, power generating sets, decoders, tablets, smart phones and other consolation prizes at the zonal draws held in different parts of the country.

    At the Lagos Regional draw, Franca Ehighale Hilary emerged as the lucky winner of N1 million, while at the Abuja/North Regional draw held in Kano, Meller Lois Benjamin was rewarded with the same amount. Abigail Onwugbuta emerged the winner of N1 million at the Southeast/Southsouth Regional draw that took place in Port Harcourt, while Adewole Adams Kolawole won N1 million at the South-West Regional draw in Ilorin.

    The  promo commenced in April this year and will run till November. The current season follows the successful conclusion of the Millionaire Promo Season 2, which held from August 2015 to January 2016 and produced 12 millionaires. The promotion which targets all segments of the society is part of the various initiatives put in place by FCMB to reward customers for their loyalty and patronage.

    Speaking on the promo, its Senior Vice President/Divisional Head, Retail Banking, Olu Akanmu, said: ‘’The Millionaire promo represents a unique opportunity for us to connect with and reward our customers for their loyalty and patronage.
