That freak rain

RAIN brings comfort. It soothes the nerve and have a calming effect on the body. When the weather is hot, we literally beg for rain. Oh! only if it will rain so that the weather will be cool, we say as we complain about the heat. In the past few months, the weather has been extremely hot.

Whether in the day or at night, people feel uncomfortable as they break out in sweat because of the heat. The electricity distribution companies are not helping matters, with their irregular power supply. However, rain can also be disruptive at times, as it happened on Monday. That day’s downpour wreaked havoc on many parts in Lagos and Ogun states. It blew off roofs, uprooted trees, electric poles, masts and transformers, among others. What about the floods? They were something else. Yet, the rains have not started.

Monday’s was a warning for us to be prepared for this year’s rains. We have seen what the little that fell on Monday did. We still have the chance to prevent a greater havoc by clearing our drains and cutting off parts of the huge trees in our compounds and on the roadside. By so doing, we will be saving lives and properties during a freak rain.
