The burden of Nigeria

SIR: Religion and ethnicity have blinded citizens from critically processing their daily realities. A Muslim will want their doctrine to supersede and so does a Christian. An Igbo will want their principle to dominate and so does a Hausa or Yoruba and other ethnic groups in-between.

The crucial issue of uniting to find a common ideology that will promote the quality of living of everyone is zealously thrashed. The burden of our ignorance peppers our society with intolerable hardship. Every group claims superiority in the face of a damning inferior existence. This must be the curse of bringing together a people who are distinctively different.

We will find wisdom in breaking the jinx. We have one space called Nigeria to occupy. We may not like every attribute of each tribe and religion but we can mutually grow by choosing to embrace the shining qualities that make us human.

Purposefulness is the only prism to think through to see a more enlightened society where the resources of the country are maximized for enhanced living standard for all.
