Why Nigeria is where she is

SIR: Why is it that the country that is blessed with so many resources has so little? Why is it that the country with abundant resources and has the potential of being among world powers is still wallowing in abject poverty?

Many people have tried to provide answers. Some have said that Nigeria is where she is because of what we are. Those who said this observed that there is something wrong genetically with Nigerian brains; they think there is something wrong with being black. Some have said we are where we are because of how we have been treated by the British, they believed the white interlopers did not treat us well. Exponents of this theory emphasise on the history of colonialism, slavery, imperialism etc. Mensah Otabil once said that we are where we are because of what we believe in and what we do. You cannot act beyond what you believe in and you cannot believe beyond what you know. What you know has a direct relationship to what you believe in and what you believe in has a direct relationship to what you do, if you want to change what you do, then you have to change what you believe in, if you want to change what you believe in, you have to change what you know.

Nigerians rulers have caused incalculable injuries to their fellow countrymen since the nation gained her independence. These rulers have killed, jailed, incarcerated and tortured unjustly because patriotic Nigerians dared to speak against corruption that were prevalent in the governance through available means. Some Nigerians which our rulers had treated unjustly in one way or the other are Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mamman Vatsa, Funmilayo  Ransome-Kuti,

Some of them were jailed, tortured and even killed unjustly for kicking against injustice in the governance and for being the voice of the masses. My question is that, after all these terrible things had been done to these patriotic Nigerians, do we think it shall be well with such a country whose system had allowed these great minds to suffer just like that in the hands of the few who through their deeds have invariably been destroying the country?

Natural law of justice will never allow a wrongdoer to go scot-free, if the law of the land had allowed these patriotic Nigerian to suffer unjustly, the natural law will never allow it without vengeance because it is a divine law that is natural, pure and perfect; no one goes scot free under this law unless true genuine remorsefulness and repentance. Nigeria is seen as an entity or as an artificial person in the face of natural law; therefore, she is subjected to this natural law too. For this reason, she can be made to suffer for negating natural law of justice; it is a law of vengeance that is impartial because it is a natural, it is a divine law.

Nigeria needs to acknowledge past injustices. Compensate the victims of injustice if they are still alive, if not compensate their families. Give honour to these countrymen that were unjustly treated, they can be honoured by immortalizing them.

Without honouring our heroes, how can we escape from present traumas and confusions we are in? Nigeria must have been cursed because of iniquity visited on these valiant men and women.

Why are we still suffering in the midst of abundant riches? Why the perpetual confusion? Why are we hungry when we are surrounded by mouthwatering foods and thirsty though with plenty of water? Why is our potentials not turned to reality over the years of abundant wealth like China, India and the like?

Don’t we think there are deep and spiritual reasons behind this? This is my message.
