Mo Bimpe, however, added that although she doesn’t go out a lot, she attends events to support her partner.

She said: “I am a private person. Before I got married to my husband, I was not as outgoing as I am now. Even now, I still don’t go out. However, you can find me on the red carpet with my husband, probably supporting him, and performing my wifely duties. So, it’s impossible for me not to be out there”.

Implementing eco-friendly and energy-efficient building practices in Nigeria

Urban development challenges are legion in Nigeria. This situation makes striking a balance between growth and environmental stewardship a necessity, writes United States Bureau Chief OLUKOREDE YISHAU

As Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria’s urban expansion is in a critical phase. The rapid growth of cities like Lagos and Abuja has resulted in increased energy consumption, construction waste, excess and uncontrollable sewage disposal, and ecological degradation. Conventional building methods, resource exhaustion, and outdated infrastructure compound these issues, stressing the pressing need for sustainable construction approaches.

While Nigeria possesses substantial potential for environment-friendly building solutions, socio-economic problems have hindered progress. These obstacles include the relatively high costs of sustainable technologies, a need for more technical expertise, and ineffective policy implementation. The situation is worsened further by limited awareness among developers and key decision-makers in Nigeria’s construction industry.

However, positive changes are coming. Segun Aguda, an experienced project manager currently living in the United States and with many years of international experience in sustainable construction in Qatar, is introducing innovative strategies to address all the listed Nigeria’s unique challenges to sustainable construction in these major cities. Aguda is pushing for energy-efficient, cost-effective building methods across Nigeria’s major cities by integrating global best practices with local needs.

Innovative Green Initiatives in Lagos and Abuja

Aguda is putting his ideas on sustainable construction forward, with the main focus being within the construction industry across Nigeria’s two major cities: Lagos and Abuja.

In Lagos, Aguda proposes that developers, wealthy individuals, private companies, and government parastatals and ministries invest more in projects implementing renewable energy systems, such as solar photovoltaic panels, into residential and commercial buildings. Energy-efficient materials, including insulated concrete forms and low-emissivity glass, will significantly reduce energy consumption. Advanced construction technologies, he proposes, will minimise waste and optimise resource allocation, demonstrating that sustainability and cost-effectiveness can both be implemented on these projects.

Aguda calls for modular construction techniques to improve adaptability and sustainability in Abuja. He believes sustainable building can be economically possible by employing locally sourced eco-friendly materials like compressed earth blocks and bamboo. Projects under certified LEED specialists’ supervision will focus on installing energy-efficient HVAC systems, water conservation technologies, and natural lighting solutions to reduce operational costs and improve building performance.

Aguda advises that the planned use of project management tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project will ensure the timely completion of these initiatives within scope – covering cost and time constraints. He advocates for coordinated collaboration among key stakeholders, including contractors, policymakers, and urban planners, which he believes will lay the groundwork for integrating green building standards into Nigeria’s construction framework.

    Revolutionising Project Management for Sustainability

Aguda’s approach to sustainable construction emphasizes the modernisation of project management practices to align with The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Drawing from his experience with internationally certified green projects, he is introducing foundations that combine earned value management, risk mitigation strategies, and data-driven project controls to achieve environmental goals in conjunction with economic viability in the construction industry in the country.

His work meets global standards such as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification, and it also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a strong focus on clean energy, action on climate, and sustainable construction projects.

Employing time-lapse cameras and artificial intelligence tools for real-time project monitoring, Aguda is improving transparency and decision-making processes, smoothening improved stakeholder engagement. He is strongly convinced that his mentorship of local project managers and advocacy for sustainability will transform Nigeria’s construction industry culture, promoting a greater emphasis on green practices.

Championing Policies and Fostering Stakeholder Alliances

Aguda believes that comprehensive policy structures and multi-sector collaboration are necessary and very important for achieving the desired sustainable construction. He is currently proposing policy incentives through his engagement with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, including tax concessions for developers implementing eco-friendly technologies and compulsory energy efficiency criteria for government infrastructure initiatives.

Aguda is also working closely with developers, financial institutions, and local authorities to simplify compliance processes, encourage investments in renewable energy, and promote education on energy-efficient construction methods among the general population.

    Envisioning a Sustainable Nigerian Future

Aguda’s efforts emphasize the potential for cities like Lagos and Abuja to lead sustainable urban development. He hopes for a future where Nigeria’s infrastructure balances economic growth with environmental preservation by prioritising energy-efficient solutions, resource optimisation, and stakeholder cooperation.

“Sustainable construction is very important, and it must be adopted now,” Aguda emphasized. “Nigerian cities must embrace innovative solutions that address present needs while conserving resources for future generations.”

Progress necessitates collective action. This is why Aguda is calling for changes where policymakers must strengthen rules and regulations, developers must invest in sustainable technologies, and project managers must incorporate green practices throughout the project lifecycle. Aguda’s guidance and expertise have demonstrated that with strategic planning and commitment, sustainable construction can become an integral component of Nigeria’s urban landscape.

    Conclusion: A Call to Action

Aguda’s pioneering work in green building and energy-efficient practices represents a significant advancement towards addressing Nigeria’s urban and environmental challenges. Through innovative solutions, strategic partnerships, and policy advocacy, he has established the foundation for a transformative shift in the construction industry.

As Lagos, Abuja, and other Nigerian cities prepare for expansion, adopting sustainable construction practices is essential and presents an opportunity to construct a more environmentally sustainable and economically prosperous future. As Aguda’s initiatives demonstrate, the vision of a sustainable Nigeria is attainable; however, it will necessitate collective commitment and decisive action from all stakeholders to become a reality.

Aguda, who is a PMP, PMI-RMP certified project management specialist with a strong focus on construction management, has over 15 years of professional experience from Nigeria to Qatar, where he dedicated most of his career to sustainable building projects. He now resides in the United States to further his education and pursue career advancement opportunities.

  • The butchery in Gaza

    The butchery in Gaza

How can any sane person enjoy or derive satisfaction from the slaughter that is now taking place in Gaza? It is indefensible. It is unacceptable.

It is nothing but state-sponsored terror in its most savage and primitive form.

It is ethnic cleansing. It is genocide. It is mass murder. It is wickedness. It is barbaric. It is evil.

It is the most notorious and graphic example of man’s inhumanity to man.

It is unconciable and it is unjustifiable.

All my life I have loved the State of Israel and defended her right to exist.

This is especially so given the fact that I am a Pentecostal Christian who wholeheartedly believes the biblical scripture that says “He who blesses Israel is blessed and he who curses Israel is cursed”.

I acknowledge the fact that the Jews have suffered and been persecuted more than any other race in the history of the world and I was one of the first in my country Nigeria to wholeheartedly condemn the frightful massacre carried out by Hamas on October 7th.

Despite that I cannot possibly rationalise what is going on in Gaza in the name of retaliation or the desire to destroy and wipe out Hamas.

When you kill innocent and defenceless Palestinian women and children you are not wiping out Hamas but strengthening their cause and giving millions of people all over the world a reason to support their cause and join their ranks.

Israel is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

It is an irrational, unreasonable, emotional and disproportionate response to what was undoubtedly a terrible and unconciable wrong which may win the battle for the Jewish state but will also inevitably cost them support in much of the civilised world.

There is no doubt that Israel has the right to defend herself especially from those who claim she does not have the right to exist but no sane person can applaud the butchering of women and children, the targetting and bombing of hospitals, churches, schools, mosques, universities, homes and ambulances and the wholesale slaughter of 10,000 civilians (and still counting) all in the space of 3 weeks.

Israel is being guided and led by rage and the spirit of vengeance. She has lost all reason and those with a level head are no where near the levers of power. She is now like a wild, wounded lion devouring everything and everyone in its path.

What was once a reasonable, rational, equitable, just, fair-minded, strong, confident and flourishing nation which was the shining light of the Middle East and our collective pride and joy as Christians has now become a rogue killer state which is as bloodthirsty and bloodlusting as the Nazis of Hitler’s Germany, ISIS, Hamas, Boko Haram, Daesh and Al Qaeda all rolled into one.

We must have the decency and prescence of mind to condemn the slaughter of ALL human beings whether they be Christians, Muslims, Jews or anything else.

Israel has a right to defend herself but not the right to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity or to wipe out an entire race and displace and relocate an entire people.

Any Christian that believes otherwise in the name of “blessing or loving Israel” is not a real Christian and is not a true friend of the Jewish state.

Why? Because real friends tell one another the bitter truth and real Christians do not support injustice and the massacre of defenceless women and children.

    Only demons do that!

If you really want to bless and love Israel then tell Israeli leaders the bitter truth and pray that the lord will deliver them from the madness and unrestrained rage that has seized their minds.

Blessing and loving Israel does not involve encouraging them to wipe out a whole race.

Blessing and loving Israel does not involve supporting them to kill every Palestinian in the Gaza strip in the name of eliminating Hamas.

Read Also: Instrument landing system to blame for Ibadan crash —Officials

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean we should support them to target and kill every Muslim and Christian man, woman and child in Gaza.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean we should sit by silently and watch them turn into worse monsters than the German Nazis that murdered 6 million of their people in gas chambers during World War II.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean supporting their every action even when it is wrong.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean saying no to a humanitarian pause in the ground offensive and bombing or a ceasefire in order to get the wounded out and send in much needed food and medical supplies.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean that we should lose our humanity, our compassion, our decency and our sense of reasoning.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean supporting those in the Israeli Knesset that have said the the 2.5 million Palestinians that live in Gaza should be either killed or relocated to 100 different countries at the rate of 25,000 Palestinians per country.

Blessing and loving Israel does not mean that we should espouse the hateful philosophy and satanic spirit of apartheid which we as Africans spent so many decades opposing and resisting in South Africa.

Blessing and loving Israel means admonishing them to be accomodating, flexible, kind, calm, compassionate, restrained, rational, reasonable, level- headed and loving even where and when they have been badly hurt and gravely wounded as they were on October 7th.

Blessing and loving Israel means encouraging them to fight their enemies and defend themselves in a dignified and civilised way by abiding by the laws of war and armed conflict, by honoring the rules of engagement and by working within the strictures and framework of international law whilst in the field of battle.

Blessing and loving Isreal means encouraging the Jews and giving them hope and support in their time of need, reminding them to have faith in God and admonishing them to be righteous in all their ways.

That is what we are expected to do as believers and not to celebrate and rejoice when they slaughter innocent women and children and when they indulge in what can best be described as the second holocaust.

  • Unending battle of touting in Anambra

Unending battle of touting in Anambra

Touts, popularly called agbero, mostly found along the highways and at motor parks are notoriously known to be nuisance to the general public. Worst still, they are seen as criminals unleashed by corrupt politicians intent on extorting money from already financially- stretched members of the public.

Their modus operandi are mostly forceful and violent. During elections, they became handmaids of politicians for various activities, including ballot box snatching, hitting squads against political opponents and other sundry roles with criminal undertones.

Unfortunately, these bundle of criminal elements have been unwittingly integrated, formally, into the internally generated revenue collection system of various states with targets to be met at all cost. In some states, they have uniforms that confer on them authority of government, particularly at the local government level.

In Anambra, their visibility and nuisance value is so pronounced to the extent of constituting headaches to successive governments. The reason for this obvious visibility is not farfetched. As a state with the most populous market and business moguls, business and commercial activities are always at their peak, thereby making business of touting in the guise of revenue drive both attractive and lucrative.

Before the present government led by Prof Chukwuma Soludo inherited the menace, previous administrations had battled touting with little or no successes recorded. It is as if the more the fight, the more the monster increases in both strength and size. Right from the first day of assumption of office, Soludo’s plans to flush out touts and touting in the State had not been hidden. Aside declaring full blown war on touting across the state, he placed total ban all forms of touting in the state.

One of the measures he took on assumption was introduction of a reformed digital tax payment system as the sole means of revenue collection in the state where residents were expected to regularly pay their taxes into designated government accounts and demand for their receipts after payment. According to him, the state-wide implementation of the reformed digital revenue collection system which took effect on July 1, 2022, had the primary aim of cutting down heavy taxation and closing the loopholes and illegal windows, through which the funds meant for the development of the state were siphoned or leaked into private pockets.

“This new technology-driven system will not only extinct the complaints and issues of multiple taxation in the state, but also help this administration in running a people-oriented and transparent governance which will be instrumental to achieving our vision of making Anambra a smart mega city State, and a more livable and prosperous environment,” he said.

While maintaining that Anambra remained Light of the Nation, and should ideally be a reference point in all ramifications as one of the developed States within the federation, Soludo resounded a note of warning to anyone posing or masquerading himself as government revenue collector in any part of the state, to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law, as his administration made frantic efforts to stop revenue leakage in the state.

On her part, Commissioner for Transport, Barrister Pat Igwebuike, called on transport Union members to embrace the new system, as they urgently acquire their identifications.

Again, while paying unscheduled visit to Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Soludo had vowed to clean and rid the area of touts and illegal structures. He announced there were strict rules for motor parks administrators to operate, stressing that all vehicles must operate within the garages, not loading on the established walkways. He warned that any garage that violated the directive would be locked up, assuring that Upper Iweka would no longer be a den for touts and criminals.

“It’s very unfortunate that disorderliness and lawlessness in Onitsha is driving away customers who intend to come from far away to trade in the state. We warn criminal elements perpetrating illegality and criminality in the state to leave or face the full weight of the law.

“If you must remain in Anambra, you must be gainfully employed. If you are jobless, enroll in the one youth two skills to be empowered. Those who completed the pilot phase will be empowered very soon”, he added.

Just last Monday, the governor launched of the Anambra Special Anti-Touting Squad in the State, with the same mandate of sanitising the State of touts and touting. While announcing that days of touts in the state were numbered with the establishment of the squad, Soludo however acknowledged the difficulty in restoring law and order in an environment of lawless culture.

He challenged Chairman of markets in the state to take responsibility of their various domains, warning that any market touts were still operating would be disbanded and Chairmen removed from office. He also called for commitment, passion, and diligence on the part of members of the squad, advising them to adhere to laid down standards and the code of conduct guiding their operation. According to him, members of the squad would collaborate with the Nigerian Armed Forces who have the primary responsibility to keep the State safe.

He said, “The launch of the squad is an acceleration on the key promise I made to the people living in the greater Onitsha area which consists Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Ogbaru, Oyi, and Idemili to restore Anambra state known for law and order back to its full glory as the Light of the nation

“When we assumed office, 8 local governments were taken over. Thanks to the combined efforts of our security agencies and the  vigilante service with the support of those local government areas have been liberated and normalcy restored.

“We have told the youths to come out from their hideouts and the bush. We shall help to rehabilitate and integrate them into society to be useful to their families, communities, states, and nations.

“While dealing with hoodlums on a larger scale, we will be dealing with touts in Onitsha greater area and Anambra State as a whole. We are fighting a war to bring back the soul of our society governed by law and order not a society anyone does what he or she likes arbitrarily without recourse to law and order. Touts disturb customers who come from every nook and cranny of the country. But this journey is to rescue Onitsha as a commercial hub and Anambra State in general.”

The governor enjoined citizens to always remember the campaign of “if you see something, you say something”, promising that phone numbers would be made available to residents to inform the government of any touting activities they notice in the area.

Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikodiri Anara, on his part, had described the the launch of the Special Anti-Touting Squad as the beginning of the journey, assuring the Governor that positive changes would be noticed by December as the men of the squad were well trained. He warned hoodlums causing trouble in the state to leave the state, as they would not find it comfortable to operate in the state moving forward.

But whether these efforts by the Soludo-led administration have so far yieled the expected results leaves much to be desired. For example, to what extent has the reformed digital tax payment system of revenue collection in the state cut down heavy taxation and closed loopholes and illegal windows? A shocking revelation by Executive Director in charge of Operations at the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), Christian Madubuko proved a far cry to the winning of the battle.

According to Madubuko, who doubles as leader of AIRS revenue mobilisation team, about 50 per cent of IGR accruable to the State Government is lost to leakages and activities of revenue thieves. “Government is supposed to be getting ₦4 billion from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) monthly but we have been struggling to make about ₦2 billion or less,” he said.

Worse still is the terror these monsters unleash on both innocent and defaulting residents, especially motorists and commuters on regular basis in the name of revenue drive. Reported cases of casualties and sometimes deaths had severally been recorded as a result of activities of these elements along different routes in the State. Most protests carried out by transport operators are touting-related. It is either the truck drivers blocking the highway over killing of their members by illegal tax collectors or bus drivers protesting over attack on their own.

Recently, two personnel of the Unified Hybrid Enforcement Team (UHBET) acting on behalf of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AiRS) were sacked for alleged misconduct.

The officers, in a viral video were seen dragging a citizen, identified as a commercial transport operator, out of his vehicle and driving away in the same vehicle. Investigation by AiRS, according to a statement by Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, had revealed that the driver, plying Onitsha/Edo State route, was double-crossed by the UHBET official with a ‘Keke’ tricycle and rough-handled him following his attempt to escape after being found guilty of N37,000 debt as indicated by online portal check of is profile.

Aburime had admitted that although the UHBET had the mandate to enforce every revenue payment accrued from commercial transport operators plying the roads of the State, its personnel were not supposed to be violent while carrying out their assignments.

Again, in Agulu, Aniocha local government area of the State, an elderly man, identified as Peter Uduekwelu was allegedly killed by revenue agents engaged by state government, an incident that sparked protests by youths in the community.

The protesters who accused the revenue agents of stoning the victim on the head which led to his untimely death demanded government’s quick intervention in tackling activities of the touts who they described as notoriously high-handed.

Narrating the ugly incident, one of the leaders of the protest said, “We are inside Afor Agulu market protesting killing of our brother by touts. They call them revenue collectors. They stoned the man to death. So we are protesting. We don’t want them again in Agulu. This land forbids these touts. They are only good at killing our people. We can’t accept that anymore.”

Amidst all these ugly incidents had been cases of arrests of these touts who claim to be working for government. Aside armed robbers and cultists, another group of criminal elements with high number of arrests in the State are touts. In less than 24 hours after inuagurating Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA), 64 suspected touts and other criminals were arrested by the squad around Upper Iweka, Bridge Head and Chisco Motor Park, Onitsha.

The SASA Director of Operations, Mr. Solomon Onwuemene, while parading the suspects at Onitsha, said the arrest would continue until Onitsha metropolis is rid off criminals. He said the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly if found wanting, just as he warned those still deriving pleasure in touting to repent and key into the government various initiatives to become productive.

Meanwhile, Residents of the state have raised the alarm over increasing and aggressive level of touting in the State, saying it was already a monster bedevilling the state. They expressed worry over return of different touting groups in multiple uniforms, intimidating, harassing and extorting people and motorist at every point in the state, including visitors in private and company vehicles.

Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prosper Amah advised Soludo not to allow violent activities of touts to destroy his vision of the State, as a livable and prosperous mega smart city and a preferred place to live, learn, work and enjoy. He reminded the Governor that Anambra is a state with a rich history of giant strides, blessed with creative, hardworking and innovative people.

He regretted that the Governor started well on the assumption of office by banning all manner of touting in the state but later allowed touting to take the shine off his government, urging him to expedite action to stem the tide of touting before it becomes the most monster that will engulf the state and destroy his government.

While likening the aggressive return of touting in the state to what the Bible said about evil spirit leaving a person and going into the desert seeking rest and finding none, Bishop Amah, said that the aggressive return and violent touting activities in the state were causing the residents and visitors of the sleepless night.

He said, “Mr Governor, you started well by banning the activities of touts in Anambra State. Unfortunately, that monster is back on stage again in a more aggressive and violent manner which supports the scripture that says, “When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none.

“Then it says, I will return to the person I came from. So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so, that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation. We pray that the activities of touts in Anambra State, will not degenerate to that level.”

  • ‘How social media can impact negatively on mental health’

‘How social media can impact negatively on mental health’

Consultant Pscychiatrist and Head of Clinical Service at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kware, Sokoto, Dr Adebayo Adebisi in this interview with Lekan Otufodunrin speaks on avoidable triggers of mental health issues and how to take necessary precautions.

WHAT is the essence of the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day marked recently focusing on Mental health as a universal right?

The essence of this year’s World Mental Health Day is basically to raise awareness on the importance of mental health and that it is actually a universal human right. It also means  that  every individual should have access to quality mental health treatment. That is why it has always been said that there is no health without mental health.

How can we guarantee the rights of people to mental health?

One of the basic ways we can guarantee mental health is to create awareness and knowledge about the importance of mental health. Not just for the individuals in the nation, but also for the government. It is very critical that government and non-governmental organizations pay attention to mental health.

We need to formulate policies and pass national bills that will regulate provision of mental health service, curb stigmatization of individuals with mental health issues and create easier access to mental health treatment. The signing into law of the Mental health bill in January, this year was a step in the right direction.

Lastly, support organizations need to assist individuals with mental health issues who cannot afford to pay for mental health service due to socio-economic problems associated with having mental disorders.

    What is mental health?

Mental health has been defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) along four broad lines. And that is that, for somebody to be considered mental healthy, the person must be able to achieve his or her potential, the person must be able to contribute positively to his or her community. The person must also be able to cope with the normal stress of life and of course work fruitfully and productively.

What is the state of mental health in Nigeria generally?

I would say  it has been an up and down situation. When we talk about access to mental health service,  most Nigerians don’t have access to qualitative mental health treatment.

As we speak there are only about ten stand-alone psychiatric facilities in the country.  The ability of individuals with this condition to pay for these services is very minimal. And of course, there need to be a way to support them.

Nigeria and the brain drain syndrome . The other issues are the socio-economic problems that Nigerians are experiencing which may predispose them to mental health issues.

And of course, it has been said that one in four Nigerians have had one mental health issue or the other in his or her lifetime.

You earlier spoke about four trigger points of mental health issues. Can you give more details about the points?

Regarding the risk factors for mental health disorder or mental illness, I would like to start by talking about the psychological risk factors. The most important of these is the issue of stress.  Of course stress is a major contributor to the occurrence of mental illness. Stress can arise from personal issues, relationship problems ,financial problems and employment problems.

The other thing we need to know about stress is how we perceive the difficult situations we all go through. That will really have more impact on our mental health than the magnitude of the stress itself.

So, we must learn to manage stress in the best possible way we can. We must be positive in our thinking when we go through difficult or life challenging situations. The other aspect are the social risk factors and that is about relationships. We need to know that people who don’t have supportive or qualitative relationships and people that isolate themselves are at more risk for developing mental disorders. That is why it is good to form supportive relationships, or relationships that will motivate us and challenge us to cope with stress or difficult situations in life. This is very important in reducing the risk of mental disorders.

Lastly are the physical causes and this has to do with our physical health. It is very important to know that mental disorders can coexist with physical problems. The way we manage our physical health will impact positively or negatively on our mentality. If we handle it negatively, it can lead to mental disorders.

For example, what we eat.Nutritional deficiencies are a risk factor for some forms of mental health issues. Also, some  individuals are addicted to some substances like psychoactive drugs, which they use to cope with the normal stresses of life. The truth is that many of these substances are addictive and they can lead to addictive behaviors, which are another form of mental illness. So, self medication should be avoided. Use of hard drugs, substance abuse should be avoided if one wants to really avoid coming down with mental disorders.

There is the issue of obesity and lack of exercise that is eating too much of anything. These can also be a risk factor for depression, a form of mental disorders in the self.

So, we should eat a balanced diet, we should watch what we eat, we should watch our weight to make sure we have an ideal weight. These are things that we can always discuss with our doctors so that we can manage our physical health. And of course, when you have some form of illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, it should be well managed.

You should see professionals that will take adequate care. One should not patronize quacks or inexperienced individuals in managing such disorders because they are linked with some form of mental disorders if they are not well managed. For example, hypertension not well managed, may lead to some conditions like dementia in which some individuals may come with history of forgetfulness and end up with some behavioural problems.

People that were involved in some form of accidents, in which they sustained deep head injuries may also be at risk of developing mental disorders later in life, especially if it affects some parts of the brain that has to do with behaviour or memory.

So, people that have such incidents, should see the appropriate physician so that such conditions will be monitored and well treated.

What is the impact of social networks on mental health considering that people these days don’t have much physical interaction?

Social media networking has a role to play. It can be used positively and has its own downsides bond. It’s an avenue to encourage ourselves on the various platforms.

The way the platform functions is very important. We must use it as a way to support, to encourage, not to show off, not to bully, not to make people feel that they are worse off. If the platforms are used negatively like that, it will in the long run be counterproductive. So,we should use our various social media platforms to encourage and to build relationships.

Whenever a participant is not making comments as before, we should use it as an opportunity to reach out to them. Call them, find out how they are doing. Being in touch is useful in reducing risk of mental health disorder. Some people have committed suicide and the signs were there on the social media platform. They stopped participating, they stopped contributing, and nobody bothered to look out for them or check on them. And of course, the next thing you hear is that this person you know decided to end his or her life. The other one is to encourage social visits to our friends, families and occasions. We should invite people for our birthdays, naming ceremonies, marriages and other ceremonies. That’s where people meet, interact and encourage themselves.

There should be a balance between the use of social media and the physical engagements because sometimes the social platforms has a tendency to cut off people physically and make people just relate on the platform alone. The platform alone is not enough. We should encourage physical social visits and interaction.

What is the place of motivation and being positive to maintain mental health? Being Positive should be based on facts and not denial of reality?

Yes, based on facts and the fact can be from, for example, what somebody believes in, his or her religious tenets. Of course, that fact may also be based on the fact that you are doing what is expected of you.

It’s not that you are not doing anything that is expected of you and you are confessing positively. You must be doing all that is expected of you and sometimes things are not turning out well the way you want. But you must keep believing and seek counsel when necessary .

Seeking counsel is a positive behaviour. When you are going through any stressful situation, when you seek counsel, it’s a positive behavior. A negative behavior is to keep it to yourself and feel that, well, let things just come out any way it wants.

Die Werkself were the favourites to win, and they showed their quality early on. Florian Wirtz, who has been in rich form this season, combined well with Victor Boniface in the box and sent a low strike into the net to claim the lead for Bayer Leverkusen. Then, Alejandro Grimaldo scored the second in the 45th minute after he converted a superb shot from outside the box.

However, Leverkusen capitulated in the second half, conceding twice courtesy strikes from Anton Stach and Wout Weghorst.

But Alonso’s lads were not undone. In the 70th minute, Boniface wreaked havoc again. He set up Grimaldo with a perfectly weighted pass, and the Spaniard struck the ball with venom from the edge of the box. The ball just crept into the Hoffenheim net to give Leverkusen the lead again.
