Tinubu correcting past errors, taking tough decisions on insurgency – Balami

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aviation expert, Comrade Isaac Balami, has acknowledged the longstanding pattern of attacks on Christians in northern Nigeria.

He traced these incidents to years of inadequate action and silence from religious leaders who, he argues, should have been at the forefront of peacebuilding.

Balami, who hails from Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State — one of the largest Christian communities in the region, said Christians in the North have endured decades of tension with resilience, choosing dialogue and coexistence over retaliation or division.

According to him, the average Muslim in the North does not see Christians as enemies but extremists have continued to exploit religion as a tool of manipulation.

“Ordinarily, northern Muslims do not see us as their enemies,” he said.

“The real problem lies with extremists who have found a way to exploit religion for their own gain. They sow seeds of hatred and division so they can thrive in chaos.”

Balami, however, added that much of the crisis could have been prevented if Muslim leaders across the region had spoken out more forcefully, early, and consistently against violent ideologies falsely promoted in the name of Islam.

“The silence of many religious leaders over the years worsened what is now globally viewed, rightly or wrongly, as an Islamic agenda. But let me be clear, many Muslims of good conscience have always believed in coexistence and mutual survival,” he noted.

He confirmed: “Christians are being killed, and this has been happening for years.”

He noted that while many moderate Muslims have also been victims of insurgent violence, it is chiefly  because they are liberal Muslims and have refused to buy into the ideologies of the insurgents.

He argued that some influential voices within the religious establishment have not been as firm and vocal as the situation demands.

He warned that the errors of the country’s founding fathers must not be repeated, stating that instead of uniting the country towards prosperity, they were committed to playing regional politics.

He said: “Though people like Zik of Africa, Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa and a host others played important roles in reshaping the history of the country, they were not nationalistic enough and had tilted more towards regional politics.”

Balami alleged that the foundation of the current crisis was the mistakes “ of our grand parents who failed to see beyond their standpoints at their hay days.

He cautioned that the era when job offer was based on the religion one belongs on the region when hails from was far gone and that the world is now titling towards what one can bring to the table.

“If we continue on this trajectory of offerings jobs and contracts based on religion and region, then we are almost going back to our vomit; a costly mistake our grand parents made,” he said.

He lamented the supports insurgents get from some clerics, “a worrying number of clerics have shown sympathy for or leniency toward insurgent narratives.”

He criticised certain positions taken by Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who has consistently advocated negotiations with armed groups.

Balami said such approaches have often been interpreted by victims as undue softness toward insurgents responsible for widespread killings.

He also referenced political leadership in parts of the North-West, alleging that some state administrations have not done enough to protect Christian communities from persecution—claims he said have been repeatedly raised by civil society groups and human rights advocates.

“When good people keep quiet, evil prevails,” Balami warned, calling for a united moral stance by both Christian and Muslim leaders.

He appealed to pastors at home and in the Diaspora to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, urging them to let go the past despite the killing of their members and destruction of their churches. “Vengeance is for God not man,” he admonished.

Advising Muslims and their leaders, Balami said it’s true that the initial targets were Christian northerners, “but as of today, many Muslims have also fallen victims. It’s therefore expedient that they all rise up and speak against this horrible trend, else it will consume everyone.”

Balami also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to continue to be the unifier he has always been, urging him to forgive all the detractors who worked against him in the last election and form an alliance with them for common growth.

He affirmed that despite being a Muslim, the president has demonstrated a spirit of religious inclusion and balance. He pointed to the religious diversity in Tinubu’s administration and his commitment to tackling insecurity.

“President Tinubu, a southern Muslim, has appointed Christians and Muslims alike into sensitive positions. Since assuming office, he has shown zeal in confronting the insecurity he inherited. In two years, he has demonstrated willingness to take tough decisions where past leaders hesitated,” Balami said.

He praised the president’s openness and respect for religious freedom, citing the First Lady’s freedom to maintain her Christian faith as evidence of Tinubu’s tolerance and respect for diversity.

The former TUC spokesman  further stated that President Bola Tinubu—who he described as a liberal Muslim has continued to incline toward fair representation but has faced resistance from individuals who believe Christians should not have significant influence in the current government. He lamented that such attitudes will further deepen distrust and hinder national cohesion.

He, however, insisted that “As a listening president, Tinubu is correcting the missteps of the past. As a unifier, he is building bridges across religions and cultures. He has proven that Nigerians, regardless of faith can have equal access and representation under his leadership.”

Despite these concerns, the former president of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers emphasised the need for unity and collective responsibility. He urged younger Nigerians not to repeat the mistakes of previous generations, stressing that Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.

According to him, Nigeria should by now be competing with countries like South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, “but decades of mistrust, bad leadership, and silence in the face of injustice have slowed our progress.”

Balami urged Nigerians to shift focus from the genocide debate and instead rally against the true threats destabilizing the country.

“Instead of arguing endlessly about whether there is genocide or not, I believe Nigerians must unite against our common enemies — Boko Haram, ISIS, ISWAP, banditry and sympathizers of these groups. These terrorist forces have killed, maimed, and displaced countless people across religious lines,” he said.

He called for national unity and collective resolve, “My appeal to every Nigerian, both Christians and Muslims, is simple: let us form a united national front against the forces that threaten our lives and our future. Our survival depends on it.”

He said Nigeria’s coexistence is non-negotiable and that the country’s “marriage must continue,” stating that this can only be achieved through justice, accountability, and sincere efforts to build mutual trust across religious and ethnic divides.

Police arrest suspected serial murderer, pastor nabbed for rape in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected serial killer and prison escapee in the state.

The command also declared that its operatives have arrested a Pastor based in Sapele over allegations of defilement, rape, and sexual assault.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Shedding light on the arrests, Edafe said, “On the 24th of October 2025, the DPO Agbor received a complaint that one Michael Ezenwai was trying to sell a suspected stolen phone.

“The DPO swiftly mobilized operatives to the scene and immediately arrested the suspect. Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed that he brought the phone from Libya.

“Later that same day, the phone rang, and the caller stated that the phone belonged to her sister, Christabel Egedefe.

“Upon the strength of this information, the DPO and his team proceeded to the house of the said Christabel and discovered her dead in her apartment.

“At the point, the suspect confessed to the murder of the victim (Christabel Egedefe), aged 26, and initially lied that the father of the deceased had asked him to do it.”

The spokesman said upon further interrogation, the suspect changed his statement, saying that he was only trying to indict the father of the victim.

Edafe said the suspect thereafter stated that he went on a robbery operation at her house on the 23rd of October 2025, and murdered her when she refused to let go of her motorcycle keys, and also made away with her mobile phones.

He said preliminary investigation later revealed that the suspect is a serial murderer and was part of the syndicate that raped and murdered Uwaila Omorzua, a 200-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), who was murdered in the church when she went to study in 2020.

“The suspect further stated that he escaped from the Oko correctional centre during the EndSARS 2020 jailbreak. The suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing,” the spokesman stated.

Also speaking of the suspected rapist pastor, Edafe said on October 13, 2025, the command received a complaint via petition against a pastor of Omega Prophetic Prayer Ministry based in Sapele, on allegations of defilement, rape, and sexual assault.

He stated: “On the strength of this petition, the Commissioner of Police detailed the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate.  On the 17th of November, the suspect, identified as Pastor Daniel Ololo, was arrested on his church premises.

“Investigation revealed that the pastor allegedly used a fake prophecy to lure vulnerable church members to his church office, coerce them into believing that if he did not have sex with them, they would not be delivered.”

Edafe said further investigation revealed that he had carnal knowledge of three sisters of the same mother who are his church members (names withheld).

He stated that the last victim is 17 years old. According to him, the suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

  • Senate steps in to end ELRA leadership crisis

Senate steps in to end ELRA leadership crisis

The Senate has moved to broker peace in the protracted leadership crisis rocking the Equipment Leasing Registration Authority (ELRA), following a petition alleging the unlawful removal of the agency’s former Acting Chief Executive Officer, Saidu Njidda.

At an investigative hearing convened by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, the Northern Alliance Committee (NAC) insisted that Njidda was “unceremoniously and unlawfully” removed in violation of the ELRA Act and established public service rules.

NAC’s representative, Prof. Ibrahim Madugu, told the committee chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen (APC – Edo South), that the former Acting CEO was eased out without a disengagement letter or adherence to provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act, Pension Reform Act, and the Public Service Rules.

He argued that such omissions carry far-reaching consequences for the affected officer, describing the alleged appointment of a new Registrar without following due process as a “blatant breach.”

Madugu urged the Senate to insist on strict compliance with Section 8(a) of the ELRA Act in future appointments, saying administrative oversight by supervising ministries must not be converted into punitive measures against officers who follow procedure.

He also referenced President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks at a judicial conference, stressing that reforms cannot thrive where due process and integrity are undermined.

But ELRA’s representative, Mr. Oluwasogo Adeuja, countered the allegations, maintaining that Njidda’s tenure effectively ended with the dissolution of the board under which he served.

He said the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had, on June 19, 2023, dissolved the board, rendering all its subsequent actions invalid.

Adeuja added that a legal opinion from the Attorney-General of the Federation affirmed the invalidity of the board’s later activities.

He disclosed that an audit query alleged that Njidda made financial payments to himself, prompting a demand for a refund.

According to him, the power to appoint or remove the ELRA Registrar resides exclusively with the President, who, in October 2024, inaugurated a new board and appointed a substantive Registrar.

Representatives of the Northern Alliance insisted they approached the National Assembly only after failed attempts to resolve the matter with the executive.

Their objective, they said, was not to challenge presidential authority but to seek transparency and fairness.

Senator Imasuen commended the orderly conduct of parties, especially Engr. Njidda, despite the tense exchanges during the session.

He directed the committee to write to the Minister of Finance to convene a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at achieving an internal resolution.

The matter was adjourned for one month to allow room for reconciliation, with the committee warning that failure to reach a compromise would trigger a full-scale review in line with its oversight mandate.

Mbah pays tribute to Senator Ezea, says senator’s death a heart-rending loss

The governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah, has described the death of Senator Okey Ezea as a huge loss to Enugu State and Nigeria.

In a personally signed statement, Governor Mbah, on Wednesday, said Sen Ezea’s death had left a vacuum that would be hard to fill.

“I received with a deep sense of loss the news of the passing of our brother and the lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Okey Ezea.

“This is one death that cuts really deep. You actually did not have to share his political convictions to appreciate his resilience and unwavering commitment to his constituents and the nation.

“There was also never any doubt regarding where he stood on any issue,” the governor said.

He extolled Ezea’s commitment to Enugu State.

“In all his political struggles, one fact was evident: he loved Enugu State deeply and remained an advocate of good governance.

“His death is indeed a sad depletion in the ranks of Enugu’s political leaders,” the governor added.

Dr. Mbah, however, said the grief of Senator Ezea’s death transcended his immediate family, community, and constituency.

“This is as much a personal loss to his family as much as a collective loss.

“In the Senate, his brilliance shone brightly, earning him immense respect from his colleagues across the aisle.

“He remained an advocate of good governance. His many progressive contributions and interventions positively impacted the nation in general and his constituency in particular.

“Therefore, on behalf of Ndi Enugu, I convey our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Enugu North Senatorial District, and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“May God grant his soul eternal repose,” he concluded.

Fed Govt inaugurates committee to scale up women’s empowerment

The federal government has inaugurated the Federal Technical Committee (FTC) for the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP–SU).

It is aimed at expanding economic opportunities and social protection for women across the country.

Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, described the inauguration as “the activation of a national machinery for change.”

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Dr. Keshinro highlighted the success of the first phase (2018–2024) in six pilot states, which reached over 460,000 women, formed 22,000 Women Affinity Groups, and mobilised more than N4.4 billion in collective savings.

The scale-up, approved in June 2024, will extend the programme to all states, integrating financial inclusion, livelihood support, and social protection into a unified national framework, turning Women Affinity Groups into sustainable economic institutions linked to formal markets and finance.

Dr. Keshinro noted persistent gender gaps, emphasizing that 70 percent of Nigerian women remain extremely poor, only 10 percent have access to land, and women earn 45–50 percent less than men.

She said the programme aligns with the National Women Economic Empowerment Policy and the World Bank’s Global Crises Response Framework, addressing food security, climate adaptation, and women’s economic resilience.

The FTC comprises representatives from the Ministries of Budget and Economic Planning, Education, Water Resources, Health and Social Welfare, Communications and Digital Economy, Trade and Investments, Agriculture, Environment, and Finance, ensuring technical guidance, inter-ministerial coordination, and effective programme delivery.

National Project Coordinator, Dr. Hadiza Maina, said the scale-up introduces enhanced digital monitoring tools, stronger livelihood support, and greater community involvement.

“Our goal is not just to see women benefit economically. We want them to become part of a resilient network capable of withstanding shocks, supporting households, and contributing meaningfully to the local and national economy,” she said, noting a focus on climate-smart agriculture, digital financial literacy, and small-enterprise development.

Dr. Yetunde Fatogun of the World Bank praised the initiative, saying: “Global economic uncertainties and climate shocks disproportionately affect women.

The NFWP–SU is a timely and strategic response.” She stressed the importance of collaboration among federal and state institutions, development partners, and civil society to reach the most vulnerable women.

Dr. Keshinro officially inaugurated the committee, urging members to bring expertise, dedication, and urgency to the national assignment, marking the start of the next phase of Nigeria’s most ambitious women’s empowerment programme.

Closeup launches ‘talking stage party’ to boost young Nigerians’ relationships

Closeup has launched a new initiative aimed at helping young Nigerians move beyond the casual “talking stage” and build more meaningful romantic connections.

The Closeup Talking Stage Party, a first-of-its-kind social experience, debuted in Owerri, Imo State, bringing together 25 couples for an evening designed to inspire confidence, spark genuine conversations, and create real bonds.

The event comes at a time when modern relationships often begin and end behind screens, with digital interactions replacing face-to-face connections.

Recognising this shift, Closeup, Nigeria’s leading toothpaste brand, created the initiative to encourage young adults between 18 and 30 to step out of online limbo and into authentic moments.

The Owerri edition featured interactive games, music, laughter, and guided activities that encouraged participants to loosen up, communicate freely, and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed atmosphere.

    ‘Tinubu’s policies have strengthened macroeconomic’

President Bola Tinubu’s policies have strengthened macroeconomic indicators, boosted investors’ confidence, and attracted foreign direct investment, a support group has said.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Director-General of Forward With Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027, Comrade Peter Ilefa, noted that the administration’s tax reforms, expected to take full effect by 2026, will eliminate multiple taxation, exempt low-income earners from paying taxes, and remove tax burdens from businesses earning between N50 million and N100 million annually.

He said these reforms will encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) growth, boost local enterprises, expand job opportunities, and increase internally generated revenue.

He argued that the Nigerian economy was recovering strongly, with key sectors such as agriculture, banking, finance, and housing “breathing healthily,” while education and health are undergoing aggressive reforms.

“Nigeria is smiling into greatness. Nigerians are embracing reality and are hopeful for full economic rejuvenation. There is more hope among Nigerians today as we collectively evolve into a great nation under God,” he added.

Ilefa noted that Tinubu’s achievements, particularly infrastructural development across the country and the Federal Capital Territory, have put the president in a good position for re-election.

“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway are just a tip of the iceberg among numerous legacy projects across the country,” he said.

Ilefa said Nigeria had faced multifaceted institutional challenges—from insecurity to economic and sociopolitical crises—but President Tinubu recognised that the nation’s problems were foundational and therefore adopted a bottom-up approach to solving them.

He highlighted the removal of the fuel subsidy on Tinubu’s first day in office as a decisive action that stopped revenue leakages and increased funds available to the government.

“That masterstroke decision blocked a major conduit pipe used by oil cartels to siphon government resources. State allocations have tripled, giving states more resources to fund development projects,” he said.

He added that the President restored financial autonomy to local governments, increased workers’ minimum wage, and introduced student loans through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)—a move he said has relieved parents and given hope to Nigerian youth.

  • Top Online Casino Strategies Every Nigerian Player Should Know

Top Online Casino Strategies Every Nigerian Player Should Know

In 2025, online gaming has become a thrilling way to test skill, intuition, and luck. For many in Nigeria, mastering smart casino strategies can make all the difference between a quick loss and a rewarding win. Whether you’re spinning slots or exploring live dealer tables, the right mindset is essential. At the heart of this experience is Pin Up casino, one of the trusted names where Nigerians can safely enjoy gaming and entertainment. But beyond choosing the right platform, knowing how to play and manage your bets will define your success in the long run.

Why It’s Important to Follow Strategies While Playing

Online gaming can be incredibly tempting—fast rounds, instant rewards, and flashy visuals. But success at any online casino in Nigeria isn’t just about luck. It’s about balance, patience, and structure. Strategies help you make calculated decisions, protect your bankroll, and recognize when to walk away. For anyone curious about how to make money online in Nigeria, understanding these principles is the first step. The most seasoned players know that gambling is entertainment, but with discipline, it can also become a form of smart, responsible profit-making.

    1.    Master Your Bankroll

Your bankroll is your foundation. Before you play online casino Nigeria, decide exactly how much you’re willing to spend—and stick to it. This might sound obvious, but most losses come from chasing what’s already gone. Divide your total amount into smaller betting units and never risk it all on one spin or hand. Even at the best online casino in Nigeria, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement. Smart players set daily or weekly limits and view each game as part of a long-term plan, not a sprint to riches.

    2.    Choose Licensed and Trusted Platforms

Not all Nigerian online casino sites are created equal. Always look for platforms, for example, PinUp with a valid Pin Up license, or similar international certification. This ensures fair play, transparent payouts, and data protection. A regulated site gives you confidence that results are random and trustworthy. Scam platforms may promise high rewards, but often manipulate results.

    3.    Focus on Games You Understand

Focus on a few PinUp games you truly understand. Study their payout patterns, and bonus structures. Almost all betting sites offer tutorials and free demo rounds—use them. The more familiar you are with the mechanics, the better your instincts become. Over time, this understanding helps you play with strategy rather than emotion, increasing your chances to play casino profitably and responsibly.

    4.    Take Advantage of Bonuses and Promotions

Every major online casino in Nigeria offers bonuses—welcome packages, free spins, deposit matches, or loyalty points. They can give you valuable extra playtime. Always read the terms carefully. Some offers come with strict wagering requirements or time limits. Bonuses can be a great way to explore new games while protecting your main balance. Think of these promotions as your training ground: a low-risk way to test strategies and understand how different games perform.

    5.    Know When to Walk Away

Every professional gambler, no matter how skilled, accepts that losing is part of the game. The key difference is knowing when to stop. If you’ve reached your limit or achieved a good win, resist the urge to push further. Emotional betting—especially after a loss—leads to poor decisions. To truly play online casino wisely, treat every session as a learning experience. When you control your timing, you control your money and your mindset.

The world of online gaming continues to grow rapidly, offering endless ways to explore how to make money online in Nigeria. But true success lies not in chasing luck, but in mastering discipline, strategy, and emotional control. Choose platforms with a license, set limits, and play responsibly.
