Phyna to girls: stop expecting soft life from men you are yet to marry

Reality TV star Ijeoma Josephina Otabor aka Phyna has said girls in general have no business expecting soft life from men they’re merely dating and haven’t married.

The term “soft life” originated in the Nigerian influencer community as slang for living a life of comfort and relaxation with minimal challenges or stress.

She argued as an unmarried lady in a relationship, other than yourself, the next people to look to for soft life are your father and brother.

However, the BBNaija Season 7 winner stated if a girl is fortunate to find a man willing to sponsor her soft life without her demanding or imposing it on him, then she should by all means enjoy herself.

She said: “I will say my mind. As a girl, as a girlfriend, I don’t think you should expect soft life from boy wey never marry you. If soft life dey hungry you, go meet your papa. If soft life dey hungry you, go meet your brother. Do you get? It’s that easy.

“But if God con butter your bread say the man you dey with is able and capable, eh, who am I? Enjoy! But don’t expect, don’t impose it? Do you get?

“If soft life hungry you, na three things. One, it’s either you go out there and make your damn money. Two, it’s either you go back to your father. Three, it’s either you go to your brother. One of them.

Someone asked, ‘What if the person doesn’t have a father or brother?

Phyna replied, ‘Erm, if you no get papa. Like me, I’m a living testimony. I get papa, my papa dey alive but e no too get money as at my growing up. I have a brother but na last born. E never even comot for junior secondary school sef.

“So I no get papa, I no get brother (let me put it that way in the soft life part). But I have to go out there and make it.

“I have been hustling since secondary. Auchi Poly, dem know me.”

Delta tribunal dismisses LP petition against Gov. Oborevwori

Chairman of Delta Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Justice C.H Ahuchaogu, has dismissed the petition of Mr Ken Pela, governorship candidate of Labour Party, for abandoning his petition.

Justice Ahuchaogu ruled the petition as incompetent and a flagrant violation of paragraph 18 subsection 1 of the 4th Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022.

Pela, in petition EPT/DL/GOV/01/23, is challenging the outcome of the March 18, 2023 and seeking leave of  the tribunal to upturn the declaration of Sheriff Oborevwori as Delta governor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was joined in the petition as 1st respondent while Gov Sheriff Oborevwori and his Deputy Gov. Monday Onyeme are 2nd and 3rd respondents respectively with PDP 4th respondent.

Lead Counsel to the 2nd and 3rd respondents, Damian Dodo ( SAN) had argued in an earlier application that Labour Party’s petition had been abandoned.

He argued the petitioner failed to avail itself of the seven day window to apply for pre hearing notice.

According to Dodo, the petitioner also failed to apply for another pre hearing notice effectively rendering his petition abandoned.

Dodo said the petitioner applied for pre hearing notice on 19 May before the close of pleadings and as such the petition was premature and incompetent.

Justice C.H Ahuchaogu ruled that ” the petition is incompetent and was issued in flagrant violation of paragraph 18 subsection 1 of the 4th Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022.We resolve this application in favour of the 2nd and 3rd applicants. There is merit in the application seeking to dismiss this petition and accordingly petition EPT/DL/GOV/01/2023 is hereby dismissed.”

So for every task that came, we have like acting things we had to do. And prior to that, I hadn’t even tried to join any drama group, even in church.

“So I think, that was where I started picking interest in it. And because a lot of people were like, ‘Oh you could actually do something like this. It’s really nice’.

“And then I just felt like, in my head, a lot of things go through my head. I actually blank out in conversations and that’s because I’m always thinking of story ideas in my head.

“So, I’d say it was actually something I started thinking of in the house. Before the house, I’d done something on depression. But that was just me trying to create content and show a lady going through depression on social topics.

“So, I decided that, let me do movies but also treat on social topics and different….just social topics especially.

“So, I’ll say that’s how the interest for me started. So Big Brother was like that push for me.

On how she further honed her acting skills and experience so far, the media personality added: “I came out from the house, I made friends with people that were already in film production. They put me through and then I started from my short films.

“And I took the leap of faith to do something bigger which was to record a series on YouTube and progressed.

“And now, I’m just like cruising and learning through it.”
