    Tinubu will make impact on youths’

    Prominent Gombe youth leader and member of North East mobilisation for Tinubu/Shettima 2023, Alhaji Bayero Lawal, has assured the President elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make great impact on youths. 

    Lawal, in a congratulatory message to the President-elect,  said the election of Tinubu is a new dawn in the history of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the nation at large.

    According to him, the antecedents of Tinubu as a pro-democracy activist and a progressive Governor will bring recognition and respect for the country in the committee of nations.

    “Most especially, I know that the youths will be better of in his administration. Look at the list of youths he raised in Lagos as a Governor in 1999 to 2007. They are the ones at the helm of affairs in the country today, this is all because he believes in the youths.

    “I am particularly impressed by the acceptance speech of Asiwaju where he gave recognition to the youths and the women for their roles in the country. I can give it to him anytime, Asiwaju is a lover of youths,” he said.

    He added that the president-elect is also a man of his words and would not renege on all the promises he made to the youths and the nation. 

    Bayero congratulated the Deputy National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Hamman Adama Ali Kumo, all members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, President Muhammadu Buhari, The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, the security agencies and the nation at large for a successful election.

    He said even though the election generated much tension in the country but Nigerians have demonstrated maturity in their way and conduct during the election period.

    “Democracy has come to stay in this country and I am proud to say that it is the youths that have made it possible because we are the strength, the hope and future of the nation. I am proud of all my fellow youths and I believe Asiwaju will surely not let us down when he start forming his government,” he said.

    Bayero called on all Nigerians to give their support to Tinubu, saying that we have only one nation that we all can call our own and that is Nigeria.

    The  President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has joined global well wishers to congratulate the President elect Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu on his victory in last Saturday’s election. 

    The 45-year-old tweeted: “Congratulations to @officialABAT on winning the Nigerian presidential elections. I look forward to close cooperation.

    Overlook narrative of Igbos taking over Lagos – LP Deputy Gov candidate

    Lagos Labour Party Deputy governorship candidate Princess Abiodun Oyefusi has called on well meaning Lagosians to overlook the narrative of Igbos taking over the State.

    The former Lagos East senatorial candidate in Lagos, who spoke to journalist, described such statement as mischief and unnecessary at a time where unity of the country is highly sought after. 

    Oyefusi noted that unity, peace and progress amongst the different ethnic groups of the country are the major determinants of the growth and development of the State.

    She urged the purveyors of such statements to desist as it is capable of setting the State specifically and the country generally on fire.

    Oyefusi, who is the daughter of late Ayangbure of Ikorodu, appealed to voters to come out on March 11 to take Lagos to an enviable status.

    She said Lagos is not where it should be considering its location and its status of being cosmopolitan, noting that the administration of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour will deliver its promises and also do well in unifying all the cultural inhabitants in the state.

    “I would like to use this opportunity to call on well meaning lagosians to overlook the narrative of Igbos taking over Lagos.

    “This narrative or statement is mischief and unnecessary as it divides us rather than unify us as a nation because no doubt lagos is a reflection of the existentiality of Nigeria.

    “Dont relax yet! Obidients still have this to do for the freedom of all.

    She said those opposing a Yoruba man as President should have a rethink.

    She said: “IGBO PEOPLE: Stop being bitter, power shifted to a Yoruba man. Work with him. Nothing wrong with being a tribalism. We have tribes. The ere are more Igbo kids born in Lagos and South West than in Igboland due to Biafra war and migration. One of them will be a Governor/ Prez one day.”

    Woman seeks justice for husband killed at INEC collation centre

    The woman whose husband was shot dead at a Collation Centre in Ondo State, Mrs Oluwaseyi Akinfolarin, has called for the arrest and prosecution of the soldier who pulled the trigger. 

    Her husband, Akinlabi Akinfolarin, was allegedly shot by a soldier attached to the INEC collation center at  Owena Ayetoro, Idanre local government area. 

    The deceased was among supporters that accompanied winner of the House of Representatives seat for Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency, Hon Festus Akingbaso, to receive his Certificate of Result when he was killed. 

    He was reportedly shot after a scuffle with security operatives 

    But his wife, in a chat with journalists,  said her late husband was not a thug or political miscreant as being portrayed in the media. 

    Her words: “My husband was a peace loving man that harbor no grudges against anybody. Before his demise, we talked and he said everything is okay but surprisingly, the next call I received was that he has been killed by a soldier.” 

    His friend, Oluwalana Oluwaseun, said the deceased did not drag or struggle with military personnel before he was shot. 

    The lawmaker elect for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Festus Akingbaso, vowed that the case would not be one of the casualties of the 2023 elections. 

    Akingbaso said the deceased was shot  at the centre to witness the presentation of Certificate of Return to him. 

    He urged security agencies to unravel those behind the killing.

    Akingbaso who described the victim as his strong supporter appealed to the people of the community to be calm and allow the law to take its course.

    Winner of BBNaija Season 6, Hazel Oyeze Onou ala Whitemoney has flaunted a briefcase filled with wads of $100 notes.

    The reality TV star and singer in a video shared on his insta story was heard speaking Pidgin English while inquiring about a credible Burean De Change as he walked to his car.

    He got to the vehicle whose truck was wide open with the black briefcase sitting on it as he moved to unlock it.

    The unfastened briefcase displayed wads of $100 dollars bills as Whitemoney ran his fingers through them, asking for link to any currency exchange dealer who’ll give him a black market rate.

    “Bureau De Change wey sabi work o! Good rate, not bank rate; black market.”

    He inscribed on the video: “Any buru the change how far??”

    Teenager dies as fire guts Police barrack’s apartment

    A teenager, Emmanuel David, was on Tuesday night killed after fire broke out in one of the apartments inside Police Barracks at Falomo, Ikoyi.

    The deceased said to be the son of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godspower David attached to Bar Beach Division of the Lagos Police Command, was discovered by rescuers after the fire had been put out at their Room 24, Block One residence.

    Although the cause of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained, it was learnt that the 15-year-old was already asleep when it broke out.

    Confirming the incident, spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin said from the report received, the fire broke out around 9pm on Tuesday, adding that emergency responders were immediately mobilised to the scene.
    “The teams successfully put out the fire, however, during evacuation of the debris, corpse of one Emmanuel Godspower David, 15, the son of the officer consumed by the inferno was found.
    “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy, while investigation is in progress,” he said.
    He said the Commissioner of Police (CP) Owohunwa Idowu alongside his deputy, DCP Isa Grema, visited the family on Thursday to condole with them over the sad incidence.
