Lagos deepens disability inclusion with policy engagement and assistive support

In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Lagos State Government has strengthened its commitment to disability inclusion with support for persons with disabilities.

The event, held at Whitestone Event Centre, Ikeja, with the theme, “Achieving the SDGs With and For Persons with Disabilities: A Lagos of Inclusion, Access, and Innovation,” aimed to promote dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunity, while advancing the rights and social integration of persons with disabilities in Lagos State.

General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the observance underscores the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in promoting full inclusion.

She explained that the theme for this year aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, and emphasises the state’s drive toward accessibility, equity, and innovation.

According to her, the day’s engagement centred on four critical pillars: Transportation, Education, Health, and Technology, aimed at identifying barriers and developing sustainable inclusion strategies.

“The expected outcomes of the event include actionable policy recommendations for LASODA’s 2026 advocacy agenda, improved stakeholder visibility, distribution of assistive devices to over 200 beneficiaries, expanded media narratives on ability and empowerment, and stronger partnerships with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), government MDAs, and private-sector collaborators,” she said.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, said the state’s alignment with the United Nations 2030 Agenda to “leave no one behind,” noting that Lagos continues to value the innovation, talent, and leadership of persons with disabilities.

He stated that the government recognises the discrimination and socioeconomic challenges faced by persons with disabilities and remains committed to dismantling systemic barriers through policy and institutional support.

Agoro affirmed that building a fully inclusive society is a process requiring persistence and cooperation, adding that “every programme initiated, every barrier broken, and every voice heard brings us one step closer to our collective vision.”

“LASODA will continue to advance inclusion through collaborative initiatives, entrepreneurship support, awareness campaigns, and targeted advocacy to ensure that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into all aspects of civic and economic life in Lagos State,” he said.

Tinubu’s economic reforms yield positive indicators — Presidency

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday said key economic indicators have turned decisively positive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the administration’s performance as evidence that its reforms are “a blessing to Nigeria.”

Onanuga made the remarks in a post on his X handle, @aonanuga1956, while reacting to a data snapshot published by analytics firm, Statisense, which highlighted year-on-year improvements in inflation, GDP growth, exchange-rate stability, and external reserves.

Citing figures sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the report showed that headline inflation fell sharply from 34.80 percent to 16.05 percent, while food inflation declined from 39.84 percent to 13.12 percent within the same period.

The data also indicated a marginal rise in real GDP growth, moving from 3.86 percent to 3.98 percent, signalling steady improvement in economic activities despite global and domestic pressures.

On the foreign exchange market, the naira posted gains, appreciating from ₦1,661.12 to ₦1,445.39 per US dollar.

Nigeria’s foreign reserves similarly increased from $40.22 billion to $44.67 billion as at November 28.

Reacting to the encouraging figures, Onanuga wrote: “The pointers are all flashing green, indicating that the Tinubu administration has been a blessing to Nigeria.”

NDIC seeks deeper collaboration with NIESV on failed bank assets valuation, others

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has underscored the necessity of a deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) to ensure accurate valuation of assets from failed banks, a process it described as central to protecting depositors and safeguarding financial stability.

According to NDIC Managing Director and Chief Executive, Oludare Sunday, precise and credible valuation reports are indispensable during the liquidation of failed banks because they determine whether assets are sold at their true worth.

“Proceeds from the sale of these assets are applied toward the payment of depositors’ balances above the insured amount, making accuracy and professionalism in valuation essential to protecting depositor funds,” he said.

Sunday said NIESV’s technical input and professional integrity directly support financial stability by ensuring transparency, fairness, and value-for-money in asset disposal and recovery processes.

He urged the Institution to continue upholding the highest ethical standards and guard against insider abuse, noting that NDIC is also strengthening its internal frameworks.

The clarification was contained in a statement by the Corporation’s Head of Communication and Public Affairs Department, Hawwau Gambo, following a courtesy visit by the President and Chairman of the Council of NIESV, Dr. Victor Adekunle Alonge, and his executive team to the NDIC Head Office in Abuja.

He disclosed that the Corporation is implementing a comprehensive Asset Management Policy that covers asset identification, valuation procedures, disposal strategies, and strict accountability in recoveries, all aimed at improving the bank liquidation process.

The NDIC Chief Executive also underscored the need for continuous knowledge sharing, calling for joint training programmes between NDIC staff and NIESV members, especially in emerging valuation methodologies and sustainable asset management practices.

Responding, Dr Alonge reaffirmed NIESV’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and integrity, stressing that the Institution, established by an Act of Parliament, maintains strong disciplinary mechanisms to address unethical behaviour among practitioners.

He assured that NIESV would continue to provide technical support to NDIC to enhance service delivery and strengthen public confidence in the banking system.

The visit, both institutions noted, reflects a shared resolve to deepen collaboration, elevate professional standards, and improve the management of assets from failed banks, a key factor in reinforcing stability across Nigeria’s financial sector.

How 2008 Headies win launched my stardom – MI Abaga

Rapper MI Abaga has credited his win at the 2008 Headies Awards as a pivotal moment in his career, catapulting him to stardom.

Abaga, who took home the ‘Best Rap Single’ award, recalled being overlooked on the red carpet, with people asking him to move aside for Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s photo shoot.

However, he said his fortunes changed dramatically after the win.

He said, “I have been grinding, and no one cares about who I am, and in February 2008, I was announced as the winner for ‘Best Rap Single,’ and literally my life changed that day. I remember I was walking into the crowd with my manager, and as we were walking in, Omotola came in with her security.

“The people on the red carpet did not even know I was nominated, so they were just like ‘common get out of here’. So we went to stand at one other corner, and because Omotola was moving from side to side to take her picture, they kept chasing us from place to place.

The award led to a string of hits, including ‘Safe’, ‘Talk About It’, and ‘Incredible Music’, solidifying Abaga’s position in the Nigerian music scene.

“I was just looking at stardom, and two hours later, I had an award in my hand, a gold plaque from Ayo Animashaun, and after that plaque, everybody was like ‘MI is in the game’. After that, it was ‘Safe’, ‘Talk About It’ and ‘Incredible Music’”, he added.

Insecurity: Group hails Tinubu’s order on police VIP security withdrawal

The Afenifere Renewal Group-USA (ARG-USA) has lamented the growing state of insecurity in Nigeria, including mass kidnappings, attacks on schools, and violence against worshippers.

These increasing daily attacks, according to a statement signed by Lanre Balogun, Coordinator, Afenifere Renewal Group, USA Chapter, are distressing.

The group noted that it was shattered following the mass abduction of hundreds of school children, their teachers, along with the violence unleashed on Christian worshippers in Kwara State.

Balogun said, “These atrocious acts are a clear indictment of our current security architecture and the perpetual fragility of lives and the safety of communities across the country.

“While we are happy to hear that many victims of the attack in Kogi and some of the abducted pupils have been released, the relief is brief and bittersweet.

“This is because so many others have lost their lives to senseless attacks, and millions of Nigerians still live every moment in pain, fear, and uncertainty. This situation is simply troubling and unacceptable.

“The ARG-USA chapter wants to be very clear: the top priority of any responsible government is to protect its citizens’ lives and properties.

“We call upon the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately redirect its focus to tackling insecurity in Nigeria

“The recent directive by the President to withdraw police officers from VIP security and approve the recruitment of 30,000 new officers is a commendable and necessary step towards augmenting national security manpower and prioritizing public safety over privileged protection.

“The president must also take it a step further by leveraging on its overwhelming political majority across all legislative and executive branches to urgently pass and implement state police legislation.

“We urge the government not to adopt a defensive stance or hostility toward the United States regarding the growing scrutiny of Nigeria’s security situation. Instead, the administration should use the increased international attention as an opportunity to collaborate more deeply and strategically with the United States and the greater international community to defeat terrorism and banditry.

“We warn, however, that any form of collaboration must be based on complete honesty and transparency. Our government must be truthful and direct about the current state of insecurity, the capacity of our military forces, and systemic issues.

“Only by being honest about our challenges and capabilities can the United States and other willing international partners provide appropriate and accurate assistance—whether through intelligence, specialized counter-terrorism training and support, technology, or focused anti-corruption efforts in the security sector.”

  • Ibeabuchi set for December bout, targets Foreman’s record in Lagos

Ibeabuchi set for December bout, targets Foreman’s record in Lagos

Nigerian heavyweight veteran Ike Ibeabuchi will return to the ring in December in Lagos, where he will fight for the World Boxing Bureau (WBB) Heavyweight Championship.

A victory in the highly anticipated 24 December showdown at the Teslim Balogun Stadium would place him on course to break George Foreman’s age record as the oldest man to win a recognised heavyweight title.

The WBB, a global boxing body that has been in existence for 26 years, has officially sanctioned the Lagos contest.

Ibeabuchi will face Kabiru Towolawi in a 12-round main event on a packed fight card promoted by Prizefighting dot tv.

Promoter Miyen Akiri said the Lagos show, which will stream on Prizefighting dot tv, is set up to give the former world-rated boxer a clear pathway in his comeback. He noted that victory in December would put Ibeabuchi “in a position to fight Oleksandr Usyk, the Ring Heavyweight Champion,” adding that the team simply wants “a fair, well-organised fight night that marks the next stage of his comeback.”

Ibeabuchi also spoke openly about his ambitions. According to him, “the fire for me to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world is burning hot within me. I will knock Usyk out just like George Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer.”

Ibeabuchi was one of the most feared heavyweights of the late 1990s and carries a professional record of 21 wins (16 KOs) without defeat.

His rise included standout victories over David Tua and Chris Byrd before a long break from boxing. He made a successful return in August 2025 in Lagos, stopping Idris Afinni in three rounds.

His team believes the December fight offers him not only a championship belt but also a major step toward challenging the current world champions.

Foreman set the heavyweight age record at 45 in 1994. If Ibeabuchi wins the WBB title at 52, he would surpass that milestone and strengthen his claim for a future world title shot.

  • How Deposit Bonuses Work in Crypto and Fiat Casinos

How Deposit Bonuses Work in Crypto and Fiat Casinos

In the fast-paced world of online casinos, deposit bonuses play a significant role in attracting and retaining players. Both crypto and fiat casinos use deposit bonuses as a tool to entice new players and reward loyal ones. Whether you’re playing with traditional currencies or digital assets like Bitcoin, understanding how these bonuses work is essential for maximizing your online gaming experience. In this article, we’ll break down how deposit bonuses function in both crypto and fiat casinos and how you can take full advantage of them.

    What is a Deposit Bonus?

A deposit bonus is a promotional offer from an online casino where they match or give a percentage of your deposit as bonus funds. This bonus can be used to place bets on various games within the casino, and sometimes it can be withdrawn as real money if you meet specific wagering requirements. Deposit bonuses are often used as a welcome offer for new players but are also available to returning players as part of loyalty programs or special promotions.

How Deposit Bonuses Work in Fiat Casinos

In fiat casinos, where players use traditional currencies like USD, EUR, or GBP, deposit bonuses are quite straightforward. Typically, players deposit their funds, and the casino offers a bonus on top. For example, a casino might offer a 100% deposit bonus up to $200, meaning if you deposit $200, you will receive an additional $200 in bonus funds, giving you a total of $400 to play with.

However, it’s important to note that bonuses come with terms and conditions, such as wagering requirements, which dictate how much you need to wager before you can withdraw any winnings from the bonus.

Common Types of Deposit Bonuses in Fiat Casinos

    1. Welcome Bonuses: Aimed at attracting new players, welcome bonuses are usually the most generous deposit bonuses.

    2. Reload Bonuses: These bonuses are for existing players who make additional deposits. It’s a way to keep players engaged after their initial sign-up.

    3. High Roller Bonuses: These are targeted at players who make large deposits and generally offer a higher bonus percentage.

    4. Loyalty or VIP Bonuses: Casinos reward loyal players with exclusive bonuses or cashback offers based on their playing habits.

How Deposit Bonuses Work in Crypto Casinos

Crypto casinos operate similarly to fiat casinos, but instead of traditional currencies, players use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin. The most notable difference in crypto casinos is the speed and security of transactions. Deposit bonuses in crypto casinos work in much the same way as those in fiat casinos, with the bonus often based on the amount deposited and the specific cryptocurrency used.

Special Benefits of Deposit Bonuses in Crypto Casinos

    1. Faster Transactions: Crypto transactions are processed much faster than traditional bank transfers, allowing players to access their bonus funds immediately.

    2. Anonymity and Security: Crypto transactions are more secure and anonymous, which attracts players who value privacy in their gaming activities.

    3. Lower Fees: Since crypto casinos bypass traditional financial institutions, they can often offer lower fees on deposits and withdrawals.

How to Win with Bitcoin Casino Deposit Bonuses

To win with Bitcoin casino deposit bonuses, you need to understand the rules and strategies involved. Here’s how you can make the most of your Bitcoin deposit bonuses:

    1. Choose the Right Casino: Look for Bitcoin casinos that offer generous welcome bonuses and low wagering requirements. Check reviews and ensure the casino is licensed and trustworthy.

    2. Check the Terms and Conditions: Before accepting a deposit bonus, make sure you understand the wagering requirements, the games that count towards the bonus, and any time limits.

    3. Play Games That Contribute to Wagering Requirements: Some games, like slots, may contribute 100% towards wagering requirements, while others, such as table games, might contribute less.

    4. Consider the Withdrawal Limits: Some casinos have maximum withdrawal limits for bonus winnings. Be sure to check this to avoid disappointment when you try to cash out.

    5. Capitalize on Reload Bonuses: Don’t forget about reload bonuses that offer additional bonuses on subsequent deposits. This is a great way to extend your gaming session and keep winning with Bitcoin casinos.

What to Watch Out For with Deposit Bonuses

While deposit bonuses are attractive, there are a few potential pitfalls to keep in mind:

    • Wagering Requirements: This is the most important aspect of any bonus. Be sure you can meet the requirements before claiming the bonus.

    • Game Restrictions: Some casinos only allow certain games to contribute towards the wagering requirements. If you prefer table games, ensure they count towards the bonus.

    • Time Limits: Bonuses often come with a time limit, meaning you need to complete the wagering requirements within a specific timeframe.

    Conclusion

Deposit bonuses are a fantastic way to enhance your gaming experience in both crypto and fiat casinos. Whether you’re using Bitcoin or traditional currency, these bonuses provide additional funds to increase your chances of winning big. To win with Bitcoin casino, make sure to take full advantage of deposit bonuses by choosing the right casino, reading the terms carefully, and playing smartly. With a strategic approach, you can turn your bonus into real profits and enjoy an exciting online casino experience.
