Two new housemates Venita Akpofure and Elozonam Ogbolu were introduced on Tuesday, stirring up excitement among fans of the show.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at exactly 7pm, the Big Brother Naija doors were open to the newest members of the ‘pepper dem’ gang following a prior announcement by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

The new female housemate, Venita is an actress, model and video vixen who rose to fame by paying ‘Mimi’ in the widely acclaimed ‘AYs crib’ produced by comedian, Ayo Makun.

She played AY’s quirky but uptight love interest in the sit-com and has also appeared in several other movies and music videos.

The male housemate, Elozonam is graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. He is an actor, voice artist, director and also a producer.

The resident 14 housemates, who thought they were expecting visitors, were visibly shocked at the addition of two more housemates.

While Omashola and Frood tried to show Venita around, the others were more cautious observing the housemates from a distance.

Fans, however, were excited for the new additions seeing as they had followed their careers before the show.

The new housemates raised expectations on what some fans already describe as ‘a boring fourth season’, hoping that Venita and Elozonam will add more live to the show.

@Hawtpursuit tweeted, “These new hms are actually doing the dares. elozonam is actually bringing pepper..the old ones are just dry. Everything they wont do #bbnaija”

Housemate Mercy Eke smashed Big Brother’s phone following a heated argument with Gedoni Ekpata after the Saturday night party.

Trouble started when Gedoni made a video of drunk Diane and Mercy repeatedly asked him to stop filming as she as tipsy.

Gedoni, however went on to film and dared Mercy to break the phone if she did not want the video which she did.

Following the altercation, Mercy was seen talking to her romantic pair, Ike and expressing her fear of getting evicted because of the fight.

While Ike tried to make her relax, insisting that she would only get a strike, Gedoni told the other housemates that he did not see Mercy as a competition.

@Kleanboy15 said, “If the object in question was a knife & it was handed over to her during argument, will she stab herself? Let’s be reasonable please.

“Mercy is one of the housemates I like but she totally lost it. That phone isn’t hers for crying out loud. She doesn’t have any right to smash it.”

@Bobmanuellizzy tweeted, “He shouldn’t have handled her the phone and his reasons for that are wack…. ‘coz she dared me and the phone is not mine ‘.

“And raining insults on her and calling her names is a very shallow thing for a guy who claims and tends to be quite. Gedoni come and be going.”

@Segun_olodun wrote, “Mercy should have controlled her emotions. If she gets disqualified, Gedoni laughs last.”

They were later taken to a secret room where they spent three days together.

In the secret room, they played by rules clearly spelt out on a piece of paper and handed to them by Big Brother.

  • BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’: All housemates up for eviction

The BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’ housemates once again took part in another round of nominations on Monday night.

As with each nomination process, the housemates get to put up two of their fellow housemates up for possible eviction. With last Sunday’s eviction hammer still fresh in their memories, the housemates have come to understand the rules of the game. They each took turns in the diary room to make their nominations as usual, but it turned out that ‘Biggie’ had other plans.

In what could have been Jeff and Thelma topping the list with six and five nomination nods respectively, Biggie in yet another twist announces that all 16 housemates have been nominated and hence up for possible eviction next week Sunday. The reason for this decision as Biggie later revealed was their punishment for disobeying house rules which he said included: refusal to attend morning workout sessions, whispering and speaking inaudibly amongst other infringements.

Khafi unluckily does not have the option to replace or save herself as her Veto Power, which she won during the Veto Power Holder Game of Chance on Sunday night, was made redundant. She will now join the rest of the nominees who are up for possible eviction on Sunday, July 28.

Adding flavor to the show, Basketmouth, Bovi have been selected as the hosts of exclusive Big Brother Naija recap show, as video streaming service, Showmax, launches in Nigeria.

The launch brings two important firsts – the first time a wide range of popular Nigerian series can be binged from the beginning, and a partnership with Big Brother Naija featuring live streaming of the Sunday night evictions as well as two new BBNaija shows that are exclusive to Showmax. One of the new shows will be hosted by comedians, Basketmouth and Bovi, who will provide hilarious commentary on happenings in the Big Brother Naija house.

The video streaming service features a dedicated slate of Nigerian TV shows and movies, international hit series, Hollywood blockbusters, and a Big Brother Naija partnership with live streaming and exclusive new BBNaija shows.

Speaking about the new service, Niclas Ekdahl, CEO of MultiChoice Group’s Connected Video division, said:

“We’re aiming for the sweet spot that other services may have missed. Taking a generic service and tacking on a few Nollywood movies won’t cut it, so we’re coming in with a strong mix of bang up-to-date Nigerian shows, international hits and favourites from across Africa, and now, as something completely new: on-demand and live Big Brother Naija content.”

  • To be or not: BBNaija tears Nigerians apart

Pastor Felix Ajide of King Jesus Praiseland Assembly says that the ongoing Big Brother Naija season (4) show promotes immorality and is not good for the society.

Ajide told News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja that the show was pornographic in nature, adding that it has no moral value and advocated for its ban.

He said that the resources used in promoting the show should be used for the development of the society.

“The show should be banned because there is nothing to learn from the show, we are only watching immorality.

“If the western world is doing it, we do not need it here in Nigeria; we need deliverance in this country,” he added.

On the contrary, a Muslim woman, who pleaded anonymity, said it was not necessary for the show to be banned.

“Why should it be banned, it is optional for you to watch or better still unsubscribe that particular channel, if it is offensive to you.

“Most of the things people are complaining about such as the bathroom section are no more aired.

“It has also created opportunities to showcase our culture as well as give room for people to sell their products and give added value to their products,” she said.

The Muslim Rights Concern has labeled the reality show as ‘immoral, dangerous and bohemian’ and also wondered why the Ministry of Information and Culture is doing nothing over the show.

She however maintained that the show had given room for employment, like the cleaners that keep the place clean and the hair makers among others.

She said that the show was an avenue to improve Nigerian economy such as in data buying.

She also described the show as a means where the house mates showcase what they are made of as well as a means of identifying their potentials.

She therefore advised the organisers of the show to ensure that housemates do not expose their nudity so as not to be seen as a pornographic show.

Also speaking, Chinonye Anokam, a civil servant, described the show as an avenue where Nigerian youth discover their hidden talents and realise their dreams.

Anokam said that the show was entertaining and described it as a place where potentials are harnessed as well as an avenue for promoting unity among Nigerians.

“Outside the social aspect of the show, there are other things to learn from the show such as how to live with people with different upbringing among others.

“You might not know the talent you have but the show presents the avenue where people discover their talents,” she said.

Anokam, therefore, suggested that the organisers of the show should have restrictions in the house in terms of relationship between the opposite sexes.

She, however, suggested that participants should focus on the core objectives of the big brother show.

Mr Mustapha Suleiman, a businessman, said that the show was unethical and supported the called for it ban.

He emphasised that there was nothing moral to learn from the show, adding that some participants on the show are living fake life.
