  • Gbenga Ogunniya takes a break from politics

Gbenga Ogunniya takes a break from politics

Gbenga Ogunniya cannot be forgotten, even in a hurry. He was indeed a powerful politician of repute to reckon with in the politics of Ondo State. He had as much influence in the government of the then late Dr. Olusegun Agagu, as he had the influential backing of the bloc of youths in the state. His name had been thrown up as one of the likely occupants of the Alagbaka seat of power as governor in the near future. Such was the awesome prospects he had in politics until recently when he suddenly left the scene without a trace.

Having spent two successful terms in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Ogunniya’s third term hit the rocks when an electoral tribunal sacked him in 2008. His return bid also woefully failed in 2011. The Ondo-born politician, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had his ambition cut short by the candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Ayo Akinyelure. Since then, Ogunniya has withdrawn into his cocoon. Reports say that the PDP chieftain may have dumped politics and retired to a private life in his Ondo palatial home. He has been very quiet lately, both in the social and political space.

    Wole Arisekola’s latest moves

What sets Wole Arisekola apart from other men is the purposefulness of his every action. Wole Arisekola, Publisher of Street Journal magazine, an online publication, is in search of stronger ties between Northerners and the people of the South Western part of the country. According to him, this is necessary, considering the long history of the relationship between the two regions. Arisekola, who is also Chairman of Association of Online Practitioners, made this remark while speaking at the Yoruba/Fulani economic seminar in Akure, Ondo State, penultimate Friday.

He, however, regretted that the long history of relationship between the two ethnic groups has not been effectively maximised for political and economic gains. Arisekola strongly believes that the two regions can further maximise the profits on their agricultural produce, even as he encouraged them to also invest in electricity generation. He urged the people of  South West to help in the reconstruction of some parts of the North that have been ravaged by Boko Haram insurgents, saying the evil perpetrated by the insurgents is beyond what should be left for the Northerners alone to handle.

She recently confirmed the development to one of the popular society journals that her 20-year marriage is over. According to her, her marriage has not been happy for a while. • Gbenga Elegbeleye bags chieftaincy title

The difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary is said to be the little extra effort you put into life. Hon. Gbenga Otolorin  Elegbeleye is extraordinary in his dealings, not only because he possesses that little extra, but because he exhibits a perfect blend of perseverance and hard work.

In all fairness, Hon Elegbeleye’s achievements in the nation’s political space cannot be wished away with a wave of the hand.  He rose to prominence many years ago as the youngest local government chairman in Ondo State, before moving to become the Chairman of Ondo State Waste Management Authority. After his election into the House of Representatives, he was appointed the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Sports and capped it all when he was appointed the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

Now, his kinsmen have decided to honour a son who has made them proud in his service to fatherland.  His Royal Majesty, Oba Akadiri Momoh, the Olukare of Ikareland and the Olukare in Council are honouring Hon. Elegbeleye as the new Otunba of Ikareland.

It is important to note that prior to this time, Elegbeleye has never taken any traditional title from any part of the world in his life. Little wonder the title is said to be dear and sacred to his people. Moreover, the title has only been conferred on one person in the history of Ikare kingdom- the late Otunba Mohammed Jobi-Fele. The event will hold next Saturday, at the Olukare’s palace, Ikare Akoko, Ondo State. According to the programmes of events, the reception will hold at Victory College, Ikare, while Bonsue Fuji crooner, Adewale Ayuba, will entertain the A-list guests.
