  • Ighodalo more qualified to lead Edo– Hon Asekhame, AIM Coordinator

Ighodalo more qualified to lead Edo– Hon Asekhame, AIM Coordinator

·Hon Dan Asekhame is the Founder and Coordinator of the Asue Ighodalo Movement (AIM), one of the many support groups working for the election of Dr Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the next Edo Governor. In this interview with a select group of journalists, the two-time  Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council, addressed vital questions relating to the coming election. Excerpts:

In setting up this support group, what exactly was your focus or goal?

To do a house to house campaign and to also focus seriously on new voters, that is those who have not been registered before. We want to try and focus on them and ensure they come out to register enmasse and also to try and see what we can do to increase the votes of Asue Ighodalo by organizing our people and talking to them in a door-to-door campaign and street-to-street campaign. Our major focus is to ensure we sensitize people, make sure they come out to register now that the Continuous Voters Registration will start on the 27 and vote for Dr Asue Ighodalo come September 21.

Why are you supporting Asue Ighodalo. Why do you think Ighodalo is the man for the job?

Without being told, if you look at the political set up as it is now in the state in terms of those who are contesting, Asue Ighodalo stands out. I mean without mincing words or any iota of doubt, he is way taller than the others in all aspects. Just by listening to them, you cannot compare any of the other candidates with Asue Ighodalo. He has the experience, he is well exposed. He is somebody who has the capacity to manage the economy of Edo State. We must not hand over our economy to people who are novice to handle. He is someone who has handled very big organisations, who has been able to direct big institutions successfully. Just look at his antecedents and pedigree, everywhere he has been, it has been success stories. So, there is no doubt that he is better by far for the job at stake. I have been with him, he is a very cordial person, very friendly, very calculating and a visionary. If we give him the mantle, I know he will turn the state around. He will be able to continue the good work of Governor Godwin Obaseki. He is somebody with the requisite capacity to lead our state, and that is without doubt. I repeat, without doubt. So, if I have the interest of the state at heart, I believe that I should throw my weight behind the person that will be able to handle the economy and make it work for all.

You said just now that Ighodalo will continue the good works of Governor Obaseki. The opposition is latching on that expression to say Edo people should not vote for Ighodalo. How would you react to that?

Those people who read and interpret our statements like that are deaf and dumb people. These are people who don’t know anything that is going on in the state. If they are not blind and they can see and use their eyes, they would be able to see what Governor Obaseki has done. Look at the state now, look at the ministries, everywhere shining, people happy, everybody working, you don’t work for government now and stay at home, you must be at your work place to clock in and clock out, look at roads, look at the whole place, Upper Adesua, everywhere in the state is opened, all done by Governor Obaseki, look at loan schemes everywhere for traders assisting people to build their businesses and managing our economy and preventing people from dipping their hands into government coffers to grab our money. Big projects and a planned 30 year development vision for the state. These are the pictures I see, Obaseki has done very well. Today, there is decorum and orderliness in the state and all that. If you want to know how Edo State is, drive out of your house in the morning between 8 and 9, you will see the calmness of the state. So, anybody who comes around to say that whoever is coming to build on what Obaseki has done is making a mistake, then that person is blind.  Yes, I will use that word, it means that person is blind and doesn’t know what he is talking about. That person is actually the enemy of the state. We want somebody who will build on what Governor Obaseki has done. I repeat it, we want somebody who will build on what Obaseki has done. That is continuity.

Aren’t you worried about the opposition, especially by the All Progressives Congress (APC)?

No, they are making a joke of themselves. The last one they brought out where their candidate went to one waterlogged area and was saying that “no vehicle can pass here now”, meanwhile as he was talking, a vehicle, an Audi 80 was passing, right there in the video, and he is opening his mouth to say no vehicle can pass. And he said he is an intelligent man? A low car is passing, and you are saying “we have to park our cars so we can use leg cross,” and you are driving a jeep and claiming no vehicle can pass here. You are not yet a governor and you are already lying to the people.  A car is passing, and you are opening your mouth to say no car can pass. That alone tells you the quality of the person APC has presented and wants to be the governor of Edo State. See, there is nothing to say about them. As far as we are concerned, he is not a contestant in this election. Like I said before, let me repeat, they will be the first people to vote for Asue Ighodalo. How do you expect that candidate to become the governor of Edo State? Are we jesters? Are we blind people? Are we going back to where we are coming from? So, any negative campaign against Asue Ighodalo by APC is just a campaign of calumny orchestrated by comedians and jesters. They are comedians, beginning from the party chairman to the candidate of the party to the deputy candidate, they are all comedians. So, when we want to relax and laugh, we go to their platform and laugh.

It has been alleged that the APC would deploy Federal might to win the election. Are you not worried?*

See, that is what they are saying, and that is why they are not working. We are working day and night, up and down trying to convince the people to vote because we believe in voting and counting of votes. They are not doing anything, and relying on Federal might. I am not afraid of Federal might. ‘Federal might’ cannot come and change election results in Edo State. Tinubu will not do that. When he contested his own election in Lagos State, he didn’t not win. They had a sitting governor, and they had the money and the influence in his own election but he didn’t win, yet President Tinubu didn’t use ‘Federal might’. So, is it Edo State that they want to come and change the result? I know they will not raise a finger to help APC to change the results in Edo State or rig election. If you heard him saying “I want Edo State, I want to claim Edo State”, he is only trying to persuade the people to come and work but they are not working. They are waiting for him to bring the Electoral Officer that they will give money to and tell him to change the result. Not in this town! Not in 2024, we’re ready for anything, nobody can change any result. The hand you want to use to write the fake result, we will cut the hand off. We will give you a short sleeve in place of a long sleeve just the way it was done in Liberia. Do you want to rig the election in Edo State? No, now! Asue Ighodalo is on the street 24/7, our people are visiting markets, organizing rallies and going round the state, you are planning to rig the election, not here. Nothing like that will happen. We will go to any level to resist it.

What do you have to say about the clamour for Justice, Equity and Fairness (JEF)? Do you see Olumide Akpata going far?*

We are one family in Edo State and we have said it is the turn of Esan people, even if there are only two candidates, we have said it is the turn of Esan people. Edo South has done it, Edo North has done it, only Esan that is left.  Olumide does not even have the capacity to go far and so he can’t win. His coming out from Edo South is a big setback for him. He may be able to convince a few people but Edo South people are saying let it go to Esan people this time around. All he will benefit from this election is that because it is his first time, it will help to create awareness for him so that next time he comes out he will not be a new face. And LP, I must tell you is a party that is open to other parties. We go there to harvest people. PDP will go there and take some, APC will go there and take some.  That is how we have been doing it.

If you were to advise Edo people ahead of the governorship election, what would you be telling them?*

I will tell them that this is not the time to vote for a governor who will be waiting for leaders before taking a decision. The people are more than the leaders, and we need a governor who will prioritize the people above the leaders. They have heard what the APC candidate said. They have heard what Asue Ighodalo said. APC candidate said he will be waiting for leaders and it is what the leaders say that he would do. Asue has come to tell you that look, I want to work, I want to develop Edo State, I want to bring development and prosperity, I want to create employment and look into the welfare of the people. So, they are two different categories and on two different wavelengths.  This is 2024 for crying out loud. We want a governor who will not wait for leaders to tell him what to do before he knows what to do. So, I will appeal to Edo people to please vote for Asue Ighodalo. He has the capacity, you have heard him talk, and he is the person who has Edo State and the development of this place at heart. I am not saying that he is not going to respect leaders or disrespect leaders but prioritizing leaders above the people is not in his agenda. I will appeal to them to vote for Asue, he will surprise Edo people. The man works very hard and he has the experience, clout and knowledge of economics to turn the state around.

Are you not worried that members of the Legacy PDP are reluctant to work with your candidate?

Looking at the issue of the Legacy PDP, in any family when one person is aggrieved, we look for a means to bring everybody to the round table to thrash it out. Injury to one is injury to all. So we are still appealing to the Legacy people to let us work together. Now, Obaseki is not on the ballot, what brought the anger is past now, so let us come together and work hard to deliver Asue. There are so many opportunities open to the party once Asue wins. I don’t want what happened before to happen again. Let us all come together to build Edo State. We don’t want a divided house. Up till now we are still appealing to them and we will continue to appeal to them. We want Chief Dan Orbih and others. So I appeal to Legacy, please come on board and join us.

As the CVR begins next week, what is your advice to the people?

Like I told you before our cardinal programme is to sensitise new people to register and vote. If you look at the state, most people who know the importance of elections don’t come out to vote. They are afraid of violence and thugs. But the last time they came out to vote they changed the narrative and I will be appealing to them to come out again this time. They know the difference between the two candidates. They should just sacrifice the two hours of that Election Day to vote. AS for the CVR, I appeal to everybody, go out early to register if you don’t have a voter’s card or lost it or it is damaged. Look for it now, know where it is, and keep it well. The exercise is just for 10 days, so we must not miss it.

Don’t destabilise Rivers for selfish gains, group tells council chairs

The Coalition for Democracy and Change in Nigeria (CDCN) has warned some Local Government chairmen in Rivers State to bury their reported plans to cause unrest in the State.

The group, in a statement by its leader, Barrister Rotimi Adewole, warned that any attempt to cause chaos, confusion and anarchy would be met with stiff resistance by Nigerians.

This comes on the heels of alarm raised by the State Councillors’ Forum about alleged plots by some chairmen to disrupt the peace in the state through protests.

As a non-partisan organisation dedicated to promoting democracy and good governance, Adewole said the group is concerned about the potential to undermine the democratic process, threaten the safety and security of citizens, and destabilize the entire state.

Adewole warned the chairmen that they would be held accountable for their actions should they eventually sabotage the government and cause a breakdown of law and order in the state

The pro-democracy group also alerted the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services and other security agencies over the potential threat to peace in Rivers.

“The Coalition for Democracy and Change in Nigeria, a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting democracy and good governance, is alarmed by credible information revealing plots by some Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State to instigate chaos and a breakdown of law and order in the state,” the statement said.

“According to our sources, these Chairmen, allegedly working in cahoots with certain political interests, aim to disrupt the peace and stability of Rivers State through violent means, including attacks on political opponents, destruction of property, and other forms of violence.

“We are deeply concerned about this development and its potential to undermine the democratic process, threaten the safety and security of citizens, and destabilize the entire region. This dangerous plot is a desperate attempt to destabilize the state and pave the way for their selfish gains.

“The Chairmen’s actions are a clear violation of their oath of office and a betrayal of the trust placed in them by the people. Let this serve as a warning to those who seek to destabilize the state: we will hold you accountable for your actions, and we will not rest until peace and stability are restored in Rivers State.

” Any attempt to instigate violence, vandalism, or chaos will not be tolerated and will face the full wrath of the law. We, therefore, urge the relevant authorities, including security agencies and the Rivers State Government, to take immediate action to prevent this plot from materializing.

“We also call on all political actors to prioritize peace, tolerance, and the rule of law, and to refrain from any actions that could compromise the stability and well-being of the state and its people. The people of Rivers State should not be at the receiving end of certain political interests, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that their rights are protected.”

Upgrade Tantita security to cover offshore assets, Garry urges Tinubu, NNPCL

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Hon Stanley Garry, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to enhance the capabilities of Tantita Security Services to safeguard oil and gas assets offshore.

In an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and copied to Mele Kyari, the CEO of NNPCL, Garry said the proposed upgrade was based on the outstanding track record of the security company in protecting onshore and marine oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta region.

Garry emphasised that while Tantita has effectively tackled oil bunkering and vandalism in its operational area, there has been a shift by crude oil thieves towards targeting deep-sea assets for illicit activities.

Expressing disapproval towards calls for a review of the surveillance contract, Garry advocated for an expansion of responsibilities and opportunities for those who have made positive contributions, stating that they should be rewarded and entrusted with greater responsibilities.

Garry also cited the example of Tompolo, known for his developmental efforts and significant contributions to the revenue base of NIMASA when his company, Global West, was involved in maritime security and revenue generation for the agency.

He noted that offshore oil theft has led the country to compromise its oil resources due to the reduced supply of crude oil.

Garry suggested that in light of Tantita’s commendable track record, which has earned it multiple security awards from various national media outlets, the company should be recognized and entrusted with the surveillance contract for safeguarding deep-sea oil and gas assets.

  • ‘Constitutional error’ may threaten APC reconciliation move in Delta, says legal expert

‘Constitutional error’ may threaten APC reconciliation move in Delta, says legal expert

The reconciliation efforts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State led by the founding leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, may be in jeopardy due to an alleged constitutional breach by the party Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, in constituting the Committee.

A top Delta APC legal expert, Barr. Michael Ukusare, in a letter to Sobotie claimed the formation of an “Expanded State Caucus” which appointed Emerhor was unconstitutional as the APC constitution does not provide for such a caucus.

Ukusare warned that any action from the committee could face credibility issues.

The letter copied to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former APC Governorship candidate; Olorogun O’tega Emerhor (Founding Leader, APC Delta State); Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central) and Senator Joel Onowakpo-Thomas (Delta South) with several party leaders and head of security agencies dated May 4, highlighted the party gains in the 2023 elections winning two senatorial seats and eight federal and state legislative seats.

Ukusare pointed out that the breach could undermine reconciliation efforts aimed at consolidating these gains if left unaddressed.

The letter reads: “Dear Sir, NEED FOR URGENT CORRECTION OF A MAJOR CONSTITUTIONAL ERROR UPON WHICH OLOROGUN O’TEGA EMERHOR’S RECONCILIATION AND PEACE EFFORTS ARE BUILT:

    1. I write as a bonafide member, stakeholder and leader of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uvwie Local Government Area. I have the regular honour of playing significant roles in protecting the interests of our party, including pro bono court appearances as its legal counsel. I do these because I have faith in the fundamentals of our party’s progressive ideology.

    2. Sir, as you are aware my last successful court outing for the party at the instance of our Leader and Deputy President of the 9th Senate of the Republic, His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR is the only reason why the present State, Local Government and Ward Executives of the party in Delta State are still in office today. This was in the case of Iyekekpolor Goodluck & 9 Ors v. APC, Elder Omeni Sobotie & 13 Ors (Suit No. A/78/2023) where the judgment was delivered in favour of APC on the 8th day of February 2024 by the Delta State High Court. I am therefore in a vantage position to speak to protect our common interest, especially from a legal standpoint.

    3. Media reports have it that you presided over the meeting of a so-called ‘Expanded State Caucus’ of the APC in Delta State that appointed our highly respected founding leader of the Delta State APC, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, CON as the Chairman of a Reconciliation Committee to lead efforts for peace in the party. By a published press release supposed made by Olorogun Emerhor few days ago partly announcing his said appointment by the said ‘Expanded State Caucus’, I am further aware that he is ready to lead the party’s desire to increase its strengths by building much-needed post-election harmony and peace following our major successes and regrettable denials in the 2023 general elections.

    4. Mr. Chairman, I speak objectively of “major successes” in the sense that this is the first time since 1999 that an opposition party was able to easily clinch two (2) senatorial seats in Delta State. Our party also won eight (8) seats in both the House of Representatives and the Delta State House of Representatives combined.

    5. Although we were regrettably denied a clear victory in the 2023 Delta State Governorship Election, a match of the lawful votes cast at the election with the spirit and letters of the new national electoral reforms has led to a reasoned consensus by a great many that the election was clearly won by our leader, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. This denial notwithstanding, the final electoral outcomes, as adjudged by the judiciary as our final electoral arbiter, attest to the incontestable fact that the APC made its strongest electoral impact in Delta State in 2023.

    6. Going by this, it is undoubtedly well-advised to take proper steps to build on our 2023 successes rather than allow anyone within the party to rubbish our gains and make it difficult to make even better gains in the future. Like all responsible leaders of the APC, I am therefore wholly aligned with any lawful effort to give the party greater traction to succeed, starting with genuine reconciliation and cementing of all possible cracks within its ranks, where there are any.

Read Also: Police confirm kidnap of Abia Archbishop, family in Anambra

    7. Sir, as founding leader of the party in Delta State, the respected Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, CON is unquestionably eminently qualified to help the party to make more progress, peacefully. However, that onerous duty is circumscribed and guided wholly by the Constitution of the party. Any effort supposedly taken by the party outside its constitution is ab initio a nullity because, as we say in law, nobody builds anything on nothing and expects it to stand.

    8. Sir, I wish that Olorogun O’tega succeeds as a peace builder, but he can only do so if a fundamental error committed solely by you as the State Chairman in calling for and chairing the meeting of the body not recognised by the constitution of the party is immediately rectified by the State Executive Committee that is imbued with the power to do so, otherwise, we are heading to a dead constitutional end.

    9. Sir, you clearly, absolutely and corruptly abused the powers of your office under the party’s constitution and acted in gross violation of the same when you unilaterally called and chaired an illegitimate so-called ‘Expanded State Caucus’ meeting of the party in Asaba on the 22nd day of April 2024. This is a serious breach of the party’s constitution but one is not inclined to focus on this breach.

    10. There is nothing like an ‘Expanded State Caucus’ in the entirety of the APC’s Constitution and nobody can contest this naked factual reality. The appellation ‘Expanded State Caucus’ is alien to the APC Constitution and its operation. Article 11, paragraph B(ii) of the APC Constitution clearly provides for a State Caucus, as an organ of the party, not a ‘Expanded State Caucus’. Yes, I have tremendous respect for all leaders who attended or participated in that meeting, but the Constitution defines the limit of our respect for people and processes.

    11. Nobody, including you Sir, has the arbitrary power and authority to unilaterally expand the party’s constitution. Doing so is a breach of the constitution itself for which appropriate sanctions ought to easily apply or a legal challenge ought to be initiated by stakeholders following due process, but these are not of interest to peace lovers like me, at least for now. The focus is strictly on abiding obedience to the constitution.

    12. Sir, maybe to avoid dictatorship, our party’s constitution unequivocally delineates the composition of the State Caucus in Article 12, paragraph 10, leaving no room for ambiguity or whimsical, subjective interpretations. The only appointments to the State Caucus allowed under Article 12.10 of the party is the inclusion of two (2) women per Senatorial District (a total of 6 women) and this must be done collectively by the State Executive Committee (SEC), not one individual like you did. No SEC meeting was held before the so-called Expanded State Caucus meeting to co-opt the 6 women into the State Caucus, and this says much on this point.

    13. Sir, clearly, to the extent that your so-called ‘Expanded State Caucus’ meeting of April 22, 2024, at Asaba was actually attended by persons who are not recognized by the constitution as ‘State Caucus’ members, you blatantly violated the party’s constitution and same ought to be urgently corrected by the State Executive Committee (SEC).

    14. In this circumstance, it is strongly advised and warned that the SEC ought to and should urgently meet to constitute the Emerhor much-needed Reconciliation and Peace Committee lawfully and properly to do its job without any fear of collectively being trashed in either an administrative or judicial bin.

Sir, my sole interest is the success of Olorogun Emerhor’s peace-building efforts as a respected leader of the Party, subject to the party’s constitution and the law.”

Niger Delta stakeholders advocate peaceful coexistence in region, Nigeria

Stakeholders in the Niger-Delta have emphasised the need for promoting peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups in the region and the country as a whole.

They made the call during the official launch of the maiden edition of the “Warri Boys Social and Welfare Society Lagos aka Warri Boys Association Lagos and the One Billion Naira Appeal Fund Raising” for the construction of a multipurpose complex in Warri.

The chairman of the Warri Boys Social and Welfare Society, Lagos, Mathew Ogagavworia in his welcome address, explained that the project was conceived in an effort to give back to the city of Warri that shaped them, as well as nurture its future by addressing some of its most pressing needs.

He highlighted that the one billion naira project, which he characterised as a beacon of hope would be a multifaceted hub that would serve three major purposes: a Drug Rehabilitation Center to offer a recovery path for those battling addiction; a Skill Acquisition Centre that would empower individuals with valuable skills for better employment opportunities and; a Back to School Unit meant to reintegrate out-of-school children back into education.

In his lecture, a Professor of English Literature and Literary Analysis, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos, Hope Ehgagha, advocated for the return to the era of brotherliness and harmonious living among Niger Deltans, particularly the Warri and Sapele natives while citing the Okuama killings as one of the main effects of deep-rooted ethnic rivalry that is left to fester unchecked.

Though a native of Sapele, the Prof. admitted that Warri was as much his home as it was to its indigenes even as he stressed the need for all to put away the ‘strange’ rivalry and hostility that now existed between the two groups as well as among other ethnicities, which he didn’t witness and were practically nonexistent during his growing up days.

He affirmed that Warri and Sapele youths back in the days used to engage in friendly banters which he termed “warding” that went on to birth what is now known today as “stand-up comedy”. According to him, the exercise sometimes resulted in physical combats, verbal attacks and some forms of vulgarity but that was as far as it got.

“But we are all from the Niger Delta. The Sapele boy giving a lecture to an assembly of Warri boys is a clear indication of accommodation in the spirit of managing diversity, which is central to the theme of my talk today.

“The clue to my choice of “Managing Diversity in a Plural Society” as my focus of attention is in the invitation to give a lecture later conveyed in such terms as ‘we are inviting you, our guest speaker, to speak, to pick a topic relating to peaceful co-existence among our people’.

“And then, I asked some questions. How come, as a nation, we seem to have retrogressed in terms of peaceful co-existence? Why has there been a surge in ethnic intolerance in Nigeria? Is it not true that, as youths growing up in Warri and Sapele, we were practically blind to ethnic origins of the persons we chose as friends? What went wrong suddenly, that we have become less tolerant of each other? Why are our differences so pronounced that we are now seeking comfort in ethnic enclaves? Where did we as a nation get it from, despite our earliest hopes and aspirations?” the Prof. queried.

The twin-event which held in Lagos over the weekend, witnessed the attendance of dignitaries like the Group Executive Director of IBRU Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, with some other Royal Fathers including Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 111, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Flex Mujakperuo, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun 11, the Oroseun of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Ogheneochuko Eyekpimi among others.

Representing the Royal Fathers, the Otota of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Gold Eburu, illustrated the enduring hostility that exists among fellow countrymen and even individuals of same ethnicity while recalling how he sat next to a fellow Warri monarch at a gathering yet they refused to speak to each other.

He said: “I was a regent of Okere Urhobo Kingdom where the former Oroseun went on his ancestral journey. I was invited to an ocassion. I got there before the Olu. I sat down as a regent representing a kingdom. The Olu Warri came, along. Though I am a regent but I was standing in for a king. He sat by me, we were there for over an hour; we didn’t talk to ourselves.

“Where is his kingdom? Where is my own kingdom? Both of them in Warri, yet, we were not talking to each other. Is that how it should be? I believe that such occasions are occasions where people can even motivate their followers to begin to mend fences.

“I am not laying any blame on anybody but I am only saying that Warri that we grew up to know never knew who was an Urhobo, Itshekiri, Igbo, Hausa; that was the Warri we grew up to know.”

However, the Retired General took time out to appreciate the event’s Chairman, Rotimi Oluwagbemiga for embodying the true Nigerian spirit by discountenancing tribalism through his acceptance to chair the ocassion albeit not being a “Warri boy”.

“I want to thank you very much Otunba, for coming here to join us in this ocassion. I don’t know whether you are a Warri boy, or you are just a friend of a Warri boy. But just like you have come to show friendship with us, I want to tell you that even though I’m a Warri boy, I am also a Lagos boy; I’m one of your chiefs in Akeso Kingdom,” he added.

The event’s chairman, similarly, expressed great delight at the privilege to serve as the chairperson of such an “amazing gathering to lunch the 1 billion fund raising appeal for the construction of a multipurpose complex in Warri with a mission to empower individuals with the tools required to thrive.”

He emphasised that they’ve all gathered under the banner of Warri Boys Association (WBA), united by a common vision and a resolute determination to make a difference in their city back home in Delta State.

“Together these initiatives embody the spirit of WBA, a spirit of resilience, compassion and unwavering determination. However these goals cannot be achieved alone, it is through the collective efforts of each and everyone of us that this vision can make a real and lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

“So, humbly, I urge you to to join WBA’s noble cause to stand shoulder-to- shoulder as they embark on this journey of hope and transformation. Together a better tomorrow can be built for ourselves, our children and generations to come,” said Oluwagbemiga.

Meanwhile, Victor Enebeli, who represented the Chairman and CEO of the Ibru organisation, echoed his boss’ yearning to see the lost glory of Warri return such that it is transformed into a tranquil abode not just for its kinsmen, but also to all Nigerians and people from around the globe.

He said: “His heart is there in this project, because Olorogun Oskar Ibru is a homeboy, he’s always at home. And he asked me to say this: he is bitter with the way Warri is right now. Warri was one time the melting point for business and social life.

“Once upon a time, we are talking about Ijaw, Itshekiri, Urhobo and the rest. It was the unity that made it possible for people from abroad to come and establish, put up companies and they lived with us.

“Warri is not an Itshekiri or Urhobo land, it’s a small nation of Nigeria. Everybody come there, get married, settle their own business and they are comfortable. But now you cannot say that. It’s a real shame; it’s a big shame.”

“And Olorogun Oskar Ibru has asked me to say that whatever it is that you think for us to bring back that glory that it used to have, we should embrace it. That we should not just come here, give big talks, heavy words, eat, dine, drink and go. But at the end of the day, let the needle move and, let us see action,” he added.

Donkemezuo said the book set out to appraise some of the impending issues that are contributing to the underdevelopment of the Ijaw nation.

The book highlights how the struggle for Ijaw ethnic emancipation started, the direction of where it was supposed to be headed, and the inability of the frontline activists to coordinate the agenda toward enabling both economic and political emancipation for the people hence the seemingly stunted progress

The official launch of this book will afford historians, academicians, and the general public a rare chance to have an encounter with and a complete overview of the Ijaw nationalist vision and the author’s overarching idea for a stronger, united, and prosperous Ijaw nation.
