In an effort to improve their health, numerous veteran actors have openly sought financial assistance while confronting severe health challenges.
These actors, who have enriched and entertained Nigerians with their acting skills over the years, are now reaching out to well-wishers for support as they contend with serious health issues, including paralysis, diabetes, and various illnesses.
Below are five of the Nollywood actors:
1. John Okafor (Mr. Ibu):
Just two weeks before Muonagor‘s appeal, popular actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, also sought prayers and financial help from Nigerians over his health. The actor has undergone seven surgeries but to keep him alive, one of his legs has been amputated.

3. Ifeanyi Ezeokeke (Ugo Shave Me):
Ifeanyi Ezeokeke, recognized for his role as ‘Ugo Shave Me’ in Nollywood, has turned to social media to request financial assistance due to an undisclosed illness that has afflicted him for over two years. He’s not only struggling with his health but also the abject poverty alongside his mother.
Veteran Nollywood actor, Duro Michael, known for his infectious energy on screen, has also been locked in a relentless battle with diabetes. In the past few weeks, the sacking of lawmakers by the Court of Appeal from their respective seats has set many tongues wagging.
In separate judgments by the Appeal Court, each of the federal lawmakers got sacked for different reasons.
Elisha Abbo (Adamawa North) was the first to be sacked followed by Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere (Kogi Central). The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division also sacked Darlington Nwokocha
Simon Mwadkwon (Plateau North) was the third senator who was removed by the appeal court. It, however, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a rerun within 90 days.
Abbo and Sadiku-Ohere are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mwadkwon is a member of the PDP and the minority leader of the Senate.
The Nation’s Alao Abiodun chronicles the timeline of legal activities below:
1. Kwankwaso vs Datti
The Court of Appeal in Abuja sacked Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso of the All Progressives Congress and reinstated Yusuf Umar Datti of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam Federal Constituency Election.
The three-panel led by Justice Tunde Oyebamiji Awotoye allowed an Appeal by Yusuf Datti and averred that the tribunal was wrong to have counted the date of the Appellant’s resignation on the date of his party’s primary election and that Section 77 of the Electoral Act was misapplied, saying no court has jurisdiction on the issue of membership of the party.
2. Nwokocha vs Akobundu
The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division also sacked Darlington Nwokocha, the Senate minority chief whip, representing Abia Central under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
The court declared Augustine Akobundu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the authentic winner of the 25 February election in the senatorial district.
Akobundu, a retired colonel, is a former minister of state for Defence and former national organising secretary of the PDP.
3. Senator Abbo vs Amos Yohanna
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division also sacked Senator Ishaku Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The court voided the election of Abbo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Amos Yohanna.
The Court of Appeal, after hearing arguments from parties, agreed with Usman that based on Section 137 of the Electoral Act, 2022, the results tendered clearly showed that there was no compliance with the Electoral Act.
The court, thereafter, deducted the invalid votes from both parties and found that Yohanna and the PDP won the election by a majority of lawful votes.
4. Hon. Jingi Rufai vs Hon. Jaafar Magaji
An Appeal court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja also sacked the member representing Mubi North, Mubi South and Maiha of Adamawa State, at the House of Representatives, Hon. Jingi Rufai.
The court had sacked the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate at the 2023 National Assembly election while declaring Hon. Jaafar Magaji of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the election for the constituency & ordered INEC to issue him with a certificate of return.
5. Ohere vs Natasha Akpoti
The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal affirmed Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan (PDP) as the winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial Election conducted earlier in February.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Sadiku Ohere (APC, Kogi Central) for lacking in merit.
Recall that in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had nullified the victory of the Senate Chairman Committee on Local Content, Ohere of the All Progressives Congress.
Ohere, however, headed to the appellate court to seek redress but the court rejected his appeal and upheld Akpoti-Uduagan as the winner of the election.
6. Mohammed Salihu vs Abubakar Baba Zango
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja also set aside the judgment of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, which had affirmed Mohammed Salihu as duly nominated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the last House of Representatives election.
Salihu contested for the Girei/Yola South/Yola North federal constituency election and won.
The lower court had dismissed the petition filed by Abubakar Baba Zango and the All Progressives Congress (APC) which contended that the PDP lawmaker was at the time of the National Assembly elections on February 25, not qualified to run because he allegedly presented a forged primary school certificate and birth certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Abubakar’s legal team had prayed the tribunal to nullify the PDP candidate’s election on that ground as well as order INEC to issue him a certificate of return having emerged as second runner-up in the said election.
But during its judgment at the time, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Aloysius Okuma, dismissed Abubakar’s petition saying he failed to provide credible evidence to prove his certificate forgery allegations, especially in the area of name variation.
Dissatisfied, Abubakar’s lawyer, F.K. Idepefo, approached the Appeal Court to set aside the judgment and declare his client the House of Representatives member for the constituency in dispute.
Idepefo contended in his processes that “the justices of the election tribunal completely misconceived the case of the appellants in resolving that Salih, Salisu or Salihu is a misnomer or a variant of the name Salihu, as that was not the case of the appellants, rather, the case of the appellants is that certificates presented to INEC were forged.”
7. Chijioke Okereke vs Anayo Onwuegbu
The Court of Appeal also sacked Chijioke Okereke of the Labour Party as the member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency.
The Court dismissed Okereke’s appeal against an earlier sack by the Enugu State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal.
In a judgement delivered on Monday, the Court ruled that the appeal against the tribunal ruling that Anayo Onwuegbu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is the rightful winner of the election, lacks merit.
The tribunal had sacked Okereke, affirming Onwuegbu as the duly elected candidate of the February 25 poll.
Onwuegbu had approached the tribunal challenging the declaration of Okereke on the grounds that he was a stranger to the election as his name was not on the result sheet as the candidate of the Labour Party.
8. Stainless Nwodo vs Martins Oke
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos nullified the election of Stainless Nwodo, a member representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani federal constituency of Enugu State in the House of Representatives.
The appellate court declared that Rt. Hon. Martins Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won the February election.
The candidate of the PDP, Oke, and his All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart, Samuel Ekwueme, had challenged Nwodo’s victory at the tribunal.
The duo asked the tribunal to sack the LP candidate over alleged certificate forgery and irregularities during the election. But the court struck out their petitions.
The PDP and APC candidate, however, dragged Nwodo to the appeal court, insisting that he was not qualified to run for the election.
9. Ndudi Elumelu vs Ngozi Okolie
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja also sacked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ndudi Elumelu and affirmed the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Ngozi Okolie, as the winner of the 2023 election for Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, Delta state.
The court of appeal in a judgment set aside the ruling of the national and state houses of assembly election tribunal in Asaba, the capital of Delta state.
The tribunal had initially declared Elumelu as the winner but the appellate court has now affirmed Okolie as the duly elected lawmaker.
The former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives had filed a petition before the tribunal praying it to disqualify Okolie.

The healthcare system in Africa is not one that we are really proud of as we can definitely do better in that sector. Based on this, most of the elites, wealthy, rich and everyone who can afford it tend to look at healthcare outside the continent when they need to. This has been described as medical tourism.
This is not to say that the fact that millions of Africans prefer to seek medical treatment abroad means that the health sector in Africa is completely bad. To the contrary, some African countries have better health care systems than others.
Listed below are seven African countries with the best health care systems based on Numbeo’s health care index.
Google says Numbeo is the world’s largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries that calculates a health score for each country based on technology, medical personnel qualifications, medical equipment, waiting times, accessibility of medical locations, and staff friendliness.
According to Numbeo, the health care index is defined as “an estimation of the overall quality of the health care system, health care professionals, equipment, staff, doctors, cost, etc.”
South Africa: Has a health care index score of 63.97.
Canada has released its Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026.
The Immigration Levels Plan is an annual release that guides how many new permanent residents Canada will welcome in each of the next three years.
Canada’s immigration levels will remain unchanged from its current targets. In 2024, the country will target the admission of 485,000 new immigrants.
In 2025 and 2026, Canada will look to welcome 500,000 new immigrants each year.
The targets are the same as those announced under the Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025.
In 2024, Canada will look to welcome about 281,135 immigrants under the economic class or 58% of the annual target. By 2026, this will rise to 301,250 immigrants or 60% of the annual target.
The family class target, in 2024, will be 114,000 immigrants, or 24% of all admissions. This will rise to 118,000 immigrants by 2026, which will also be 24% of all admissions.
Humanitarian admission targets will be 89,865 immigrants in 2024, or about 19% of all admissions.
These totals include refugees, protected persons, and those admitted for humanitarian, compassionate, or other reasons. By 2026, the target will be 80,832 immigrants, or 16% of admissions.
The Express Entry target will be 110,700 permanent resident admissions in 2024, and this will rise to 117,500 immigrants in each of 2025 and 2026.
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) target will be 110,000 immigrants in 2024, and rise to 120,000 in 2025, and another 120,000 in 2026.
Spousal, Partner, and Children sponsorship has a target of 82,000 admissions in 2024, and this will rise to 84,000 in each of 2025 and 2026.
Meanwhile, the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) target will be 32,000 immigrants in 2024, followed by 34,000 immigrants in each of 2025 and 2026.
There are different Canadian immigration programs, including the following:
· Federal Skilled Worker or FSW (Express Entry)
· Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
· Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
· Quebec-Selected Skilled Workers Program
Express Entry is the fastest and most popular way to land a permanent residency in Canada.
The government of Canada uses an online system called Express Entry which processes and organizes the applications for skilled workers to immigrate and enter Canada for permanent residence.
Here are the steps:
Step 1: Find out if you’re eligible
There are 2 ways to find out if you’re eligible for a program that is part of Express Entry: you’ll answer a few questions to see if you meet the minimum requirements.
Step 2: Check your score
If you’re eligible for one or more of the Express Entry programs and submit your profile, you’ll be ranked in the Express Entry pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Step 3: Get your documents ready
You don’t need to upload documents to submit a profile, but you may need information from some or all of these documents:
A passport or travel document
Language test results
Proof of Canadian education or an educational credential assessment report for immigration purposes if you’re applying through the Federal Skilled Workers Program, or you want to get points for the education you got outside Canada.
Proof of funds
You’ll need to upload copies of the documents you used for your profile. Most applicants will also need to upload the following:
· Police certificates
· Medical exams
· Proof of funds
· Birth certificate
Other documents
You only need to submit these if Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) includes them in your personalized document checklist. Your application may not be refused or rejected if you don’t submit these documents. They’re only used to check if you meet the requirements of the program you’re applying for.
Step 4: Fill out your profile
Your Express Entry profile is where you provide information about yourself. If you’re eligible, IRCC will accept you into our pool of candidates and give you a CRS score. Completing an online Express Entry profile or entering the pool doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get an invite to apply for permanent residence.
Step 5: Get an invitation and apply
IRCC sends out invitations to apply to the candidates with the highest scores in the pool. If you are invited to apply, you’ll have 60 days to submit your application.
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. The normal shape of a person’s spine includes a curve at the top of the shoulder and a curve at the lower back. If your spine is curved from side to side or in an “S” or “C” shape, you might have scoliosis.
The condition is often diagnosed during the first 7 years of a child’s life. Common causes, when they can be pinpointed are:
i. birth defects
ii. neurological abnormalities
iii. genetic conditions
Below are the facts:
1. The most common type starts just before puberty:
The most common form of Scoliosis, called adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, is most often detected between the ages of 10 and 15. Children typically have a spine check each time they have an annual physical with their paediatrician, Vitale says, and often also by the school nurse.
2. See a specialist:
If there’s any asymmetry detected in your child’s shoulders, shoulder blades, spine, or pelvis, see a pediatric spine specialist to have an X-ray performed. If scoliosis is present, the doctor can measure the degree of curvature.
This specialization matters, says Vitale, because places like Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Och Spine Hospital, see a lot of children with scoliosis and employ a number of scoliosis-specific physicians, physical therapists, and orthotists (experts who make braces) who have the depth of experience to diagnose and treat all forms of scoliosis.
3. Early diagnosis is key:
Vitale says treatment for children with a spinal curve of about 25 degrees can be treated without surgery by using scoliosis-specific physical therapy, vitamin D supplementation, and, sometimes, a brace.
There have never been better treatment options for children with scoliosis, Vitale adds. With more accurate body scans, X-rays that use barely any radiation, and more advanced bracing, the sooner treatment starts, the less likely it is that patients will need surgery, and the healthier they will be.
4. Not all braces are the same:
When a brace is needed, Vitale says, talk to your scoliosis doctor about custom-fitting your child with an external brace (a vest-like garment) to keep the scoliosis from getting worse and to maintain an upright spine. “We choose the most effective brace that your child is most likely to wear as prescribed,” he says.
A child should wear the brace as recommended for full benefit: 16 to 18 hours every day until he or she stops growing. This will help establish that the spine straightens adequately and will stay straight into adulthood.
5. Scoliosis-specific physical therapy can help:
A physical therapist teaches specific exercises and corrective breathing techniques to develop the inner muscles of the rib cage and change the shape of the upper trunk to help slow or stop curve progression.
6. When the curve reaches 50 degrees, surgery is usually necessary.
If surgery is needed, many treatment options are available, depending on the age of the child. For younger children, growing rods are often used—including some that can be periodically lengthened by using magnets to remotely control rods that were implanted in the spine—to avoid additional surgeries.
“Tethering” of the vertebrae with screws and cords placed in the spine is a treatment option for somewhat older children who are still growing. Fusing parts of the spine in an operation through the back is the standard of care for most adolescents and teenagers.
7. Scoliosis is not just a cosmetic problem:
Scoliosis that remains untreated can get worse. Once the curve hits the 70-degree stage, lung function may be impaired. Curves of 90 degrees or more can worsen both lung and heart function.
8. Children with scoliosis who receive treatment can live normal, active lives:
Even in the subset of patients who do need surgery, treatments have continued to evolve and improve and outcomes are typically great, Vitale says. Often kids can get back to full sports activities, including gymnastics and dance.
A passport is a special book that the government gives an individual to enable them travel to other countries. A passport carries your picture, name, birthday and some other details alongside a bunch of stamps in it from all the different places you’ve been, if you have been to other countries/places.
These passports can also allow their holders to travel to a large number of countries without having to apply for a visa in advance. This can be a significant advantage for business travelers, tourists, and people who need to move frequently for other reasons.
Some countries need to know who is coming into their country which makes them ask everyone to show a passport. It’s a way to show them that you’re allowed to be their country.
One thing you may want to consider is getting a passport from a country with a strong passport.
Some passports are stronger than others and a strong passport is one that allows you to travel to a lot of countries without having to apply for a visa in advance.
A visa, on the other hand, is a special stamp that the country gives you in your passport that says you’re allowed to come in.
There are many benefits to having a strong passport. For one, it makes it easier to travel for business or pleasure. You can also use it to study abroad, volunteer overseas, or even live and work in another country. A strong passport can give you a sense of security and freedom, knowing that you can go wherever you want, whenever you want.
These countries offer their citizens a high amount of freedom and mobility, and they are all popular destinations for business, tourism, and study abroad.
Listed below are a number of countries and the number of locations they have access to.
1. Singapore(192 locations)
Singapore has the strongest passport in the world in 2023, according to the Henley Passport Index. Singaporean passport holders can travel to 192 countries visa-free or with a visa on arrival.
2. Germany, Italy, Spain(190 locations)
3. Japan, Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea. Sweden(189 locations)
4. UK, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands (188 locations)
5. Belgium, Czech Republic, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland (187 locations)
6. Australia, Hungary and Poland (189 locations)
7. Canada and Greece (185 locations)
8. Lithuania and United States (184 locations)
9. Latvia, Slovakia and Slovenia (183 locations)
10. Estonia and Iceland (182 locations)
It is important to note that passport power can change over time, as countries sign new visa agreements or change their visa requirements. It is always a good idea to check the latest visa requirements before traveling to a new country.
Siminalayi Fubara, born in Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State on 28 January 1975, is an accountant and a technocrat who rose to serve as the Accountant General of Rivers State.
At birth, he was christened “Siminalayi” which, in Opobo-Ibani dialect, translates as “the poor may beget the rich.”
He is the second of five children and the first son of the late Joseph Fubara, a former soldier who had an overseas training tour of duty, and the late Love Fubara, a civil servant. Both the late Joseph and his wife were descendants of the Fubara and Jaja families of Opobo Town.
Fubara enjoyed a long, meritorious career in the state civil service, gradually rising through the ranks until he was appointed the Accountant General of the state in 2020.
His service career, which spanned a total of 18 years, began in 2003 when he was appointed as a classroom teacher by the Rivers State Post-Primary Schools Board, and posted to the Comprehensive High School, Alesa-Eleme. He taught there for five years and transferred his service in 2007 from the Board to the Ministry of Finance with the rank of Senior Accountant.
He was a Senior Accountant before being promoted to Principal Accountant. He was later promoted to Chief Accountant, Assistant Director, Deputy Director, and Director. He became Permanent Secretary, then rose to the pinnacle of his career as Accountant General.

He is a strong member of the PDP in Rivers State.
Fubara has undergone mentorship with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and other great Rivers leaders. At one time when some party leaders in his Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area deserted the PDP, he picked up the mantle and rebuilt it, eventually becoming the party leader in the area.
His leadership brought cohesion and unity and strengthened the party in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
He has taken his deep party loyalty and zeal across the state, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2023 general elections. This has served in bringing back and uniting several party heavyweights both in his local government area and across the state.
