2027: Kano PDP rejects ADC, coalition

The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday said it was not joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for any political scheming ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing a press conference at Gidauniya, Kano city, the state PDP chairman, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, told newsmen that the party is also not going to affiliate with any movement or coalition, apart from the umbrella party.

“We categorically distance the Kano State chapter from the breakaway members who have formed a coalition under the African Democratic Party.

“This coalition does not represent the interests of the PDP, and we urge our members to remain focused on our party’s objectives

“We are resolute; there is no compromise; and we are not backing any candidate except those sponsored by the PDP,” the chairman said.

Kibiya, who was accompanied by his entire Exco members and party supporters from the 44 local government areas of the state, disclosed that the PDP in Kano has successfully conducted elections at the ward, local, and state levels.

“This achievement (successful election) demonstrates our organisational strength and commitment to democratic processes.

He noted that the election marks a significant step in ensuring that the leadership is in place and ready to serve the party and its members effectively.

According to Kabiya, the Kano PDP has completed the mobilisation and repositioning of party members, who he said were actively engaged and aligned with the party’s goals.

“This effort is crucial for the strengthening of our grassroots support and enhancement of our operational effectiveness,” he noted.

He assured the national executives of absolute loyalty in all matters concerning the conduct of party businesses, adding, “Our commitment to the party remains unwavering, and we stand ready to support the party’s initiatives and directives.”

He also assured all PDP members that the entire membership of the Kano PDP was united as one solid base.

“We are resolute in our commitment to providing quality leadership. Our focus will be on delivering effective governance and addressing the needs of our constituents,” he added.

Tinubu meets Jibrin, Kwankwaso ally, amid defection rumours

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, a close ally of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of mounting speculation about a possible defection of Kwankwaso and supporters to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as a wave of recent criticisms of the Tinubu administration by the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency and a long-time associate of Tinubu and Kwankwaso, told journalists after the meeting that discussions focused on national issues of public interest.

While refusing to confirm whether a formal defection to the APC was imminent, Jibrin suggested the possibility could not be ruled out.

“I do not think it is time for that conversation. But everything is open, and everything is a possibility. The most important thing is stability of the country, is unity of the country, and I believe that when we get to the bridge, we’ll cross it,” Jibrin said when asked directly if he was returning to the APC.

The meeting has further fuelled speculation of a realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape, especially as Kwankwaso, in recent weeks, has openly criticised the Tinubu administration’s performance, particularly regarding northern development and inclusion.

Asked whether his presence at the Villa was connected to efforts to douse political tensions between Tinubu and Kwankwaso, Jibrin downplayed the notion, describing the two politicians as seasoned leaders who share a commitment to Nigeria’s progress.

“The President is a first-class politician. Of course, the national leader of the NNPP is also a thoroughbred politician, and I believe that both of them are committed to the peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria. So irrespective of the comments that were made, I do not think that it should be a source of concern that I’m seen in the Villa during this period,” he said.

On whether President Tinubu has delivered for the North, in contrast to Kwankwaso’s recent remarks, Jibrin offered a balanced response.

“Well, every leader does his best, and it depends on how you want to rate him. You can decide to see the cup half full, or you look at the cup half empty. But I also believe that everyone is entitled to his opinion, and it can always just contribute to deepening the discourse—sometimes it might turn out to be a blessing in disguise,” he noted.

While political observers continue to monitor movements between the NNPP and APC, Jibrin’s visit and his cryptic remarks have added new momentum to ongoing speculations about a broader reconciliation or possible merger talks involving key northern political figures and the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Phantom coup: LP faction denies anti-Tinubu protest, alleges leaders’ harassment

The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has denied allegations of planning a one-million-man protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the LP’s Interim National Chairman, the party dismissed the claims as baseless and malicious, attributing them to a petition allegedly authored by Abayomi Arabambi, who the group says falsely parades himself as the party’s spokesperson.

According to the statement, Arabambi alleged that key LP leaders — including Peter Obi, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, Senator Victor Umeh, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko — were plotting to violently overthrow the government under the guise of organising a “One Million Man March” protest.

The Usman-led faction also claimed the alleged protest, said to be scheduled for July 30, 2025, was falsely linked to an attempt to reclaim the party’s former national secretariat, currently occupied by former chairman Julius Abure.

The group further raised alarm over what it described as targeted harassment and intimidation of its leaders by security agencies based on the “malicious” petition. It called for a thorough investigation into the matter and warned against actions that could undermine democracy and civil liberties.

“Let it be stated unequivocally: the leadership of the Labour Party is not aware of any planned protest anywhere in Nigeria under the auspices of the party.

“We have neither authorised nor sanctioned any individual or group to march on the streets in the name of reclaiming a property the party has long abandoned.

“As a law-abiding political party, following the Supreme Court’s ruling of 4th April 2025, which affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership, we have formally notified relevant law enforcement agencies, urging them to enforce the judgment by vacating the illegal occupants of the former secretariat.

“Regrettably, the inertia of these agencies forced the party to relocate to a new and more secure location. Since then, the party has moved on, fully focused on its core mission.

“It is, therefore, laughable and deeply suspicious for anyone to insinuate that the Labour Party intends to forcibly reclaim a building it no longer uses.

“What is, however, more alarming is the fictitious and irresponsible allegation of a planned coup d’état against the Tinubu administration – a claim suspiciously lumped with this so-called One Million Man March.

“How an alleged protest to reclaim a party office translates to a violent toppling of a sitting government beats the imagination of any right-thinking Nigerian.

“This is not merely a reckless lie – it is a dangerous and desperate attempt to frame up respected leaders of the Labour Party in a phoney plot to destabilise the nation.

“It is a throwback to a dark era when individuals were roped into phantom coup plots simply for opposing the government of the day.

“We are already aware that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have begun harassing key party officials on the strength of this concocted tale. We warn that this path is a slippery slope that endangers our democracy.

“The Labour Party, therefore, calls on all security agencies to thoroughly investigate this malicious petition and unmask the true faces behind this sinister agenda to heat the polity through deceit, misinformation, and fear.

“We remain committed to the rule of law and democratic principles, and we urge the Nigerian people to see through this poorly scripted political drama for what it truly is – an act of cowardice and desperation.”

  • 2027: South should complete eight years as president, says Moro

2027: South should complete eight years as president, says Moro

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been hit by a series of crises, leading to the resignations of prominent chieftains. Last week, its 2023 presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, tendered his resignation letter, citing deep frustrations with internal party democracy. In this interview monitored by Assistant Editor EMMANUEL BADEJO, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, who alleged that those leaving the party were part of the problem, insisted that the North cannot produce a president until 2031.

Did you ever envisage that Atiku Abubakar was going to leave the PDP?

Well, I never thought that he would leave PDP, but if you recall very succinctly, even scholars of politics say politics is the act of the possible. Therefore, everything is possible in politics. And so, if Atiku Abubakar saw other formations and decided to deal with the PDP, and he has decided to go away from the PDP, like I said, in a crisis situation of this nature, anything is possible. And from what has happened, certainly anything is possible. And I can tell you this, for quite some time, quite frankly, for those of us in the PDP, we knew quite all right that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was on his way out of the party, because for quite some time now, he has not been attending the activities of the PDP.

So, you were not blindsided about this?

No, no, no, no, no. I can tell you that any PDP member who has been very active in attending functions of the PDP, especially NEC, BoT, caucus and the rest of them, will tell you that for some months now, he has been away from the party.

What does this say about the internal workings of your party, losing a man who was the face of the party in 2019, and in 2023, isn’t the PDP finished?

The party certainly is not finished, I can assure you that. But definitely for a man of Atiku Abubakar’s stature to leave the PDP, that is supposed to be the main opposition party in the country today, certainly speaks volumes. But I have said this before, and I keep saying that the PDP is not about one or two persons. The PDP is about its members. And as people walk out, people walk in too. And so, and if people who voluntarily joined the party, voluntarily leave, there is nothing you can do about it. The reality on ground is that they have left. And so it is left for those of us who remain with the party to pick up the pieces and move on.

Won’t be joining the opposition coalition platform, the ADC, which some people say could be used as a vehicle to fight the ruling party?

Well, that is what members of the ADC will tell you, that they have come together for more shares of work, more shares of all parts of Nigeria, to come together from all parts of backgrounds, to come together to fight the ruling party. And if you recall, I’d said, look, I don’t subscribe to the politics of gang-ups. I don’t subscribe to all these shenanigans about, we want to fight this; we want to fight that. All of us here are Nigerians, and the things that are happening in Nigeria today are happening in our faces.

And so, if something is going wrong in Nigeria, in a democracy, there are two options. Either we put our heads together, try to constructively engage the ruling party, to right the wrongs, and rebuild this country, and make it great again. Or, you move to a different platform, to say, okay, we want to see how we can wrest power from the ruling party. Those who have gone to the ADC have chosen the latter option, of picking a platform to wrest power from the ruling party. How far they can go is all for conjecture.

    So you’re not joining them?

    I’m not joining them.

As a David Mark and Atiku ally, whose associates are moving in ADC’s direction, won’t they also expect you to gravitate towards that direction?

But the reality on ground is that I’m not following. That is the truth about the matter. I’m comfortable in PDP. I have no reason to leave PDP now or in the near future. Those who have left PDP have their reasons for leaving. And no matter what people say, PDP is in crisis, there is division in PDP, therefore, they are leaving, and the rest of them, fine. If there is division and crisis in PDP, leaders of PDP should stay in PDP to fix it. Some of these leaders may be responsible for even the problems in the party.

Atiku cited a lack of ideological clarity and takeover of party structures by moneybags. Those are his reasons for his exit. Is there merit to his claim?

Let me tell you this for free. I don’t like talking about personalities, and I don’t like talking down on elders. People, who have been in PDP up to this point, complain about lack of ideological clarity. That makes a statement even about themselves. We have been here, all of us in PDP, up to this point. If you want to leave PDP for personal reasons, you can confidently walk away, but not to give insinuations that are not realistic. What is the ideological clarity in ADC? And don’t forget, people are already complaining in ADC that, look, we have our party. We knew where we were going, and some persons have come all of a sudden and taken over the structures of the party without following due process, without following the constitution of the party. That is a story for another day.

But I agree with you completely that there are crashes in PDP. But those who have left have their reasons for leaving. Those of us who are staying behind will rebuild the party. If you talk about a former Senate president, David Mark, who is now with the ADC, we still have two Senate presidents in the PDP. President Bukola Saraki, who is leading the reconciliation process, is still very much around. The party still has serving and ex-governors in its fold. They are not walking away.

Are some of them one step in, one step out?

Well, you are just assuming. It’s mere speculation. One step away, one step in. I mean, it doesn’t sound realistic to me.

For instance, a former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam was at the ADC meeting, yet in PDP.

Read Also: Sanwo-Olu’s wife launches N60m Tinubu’s RHI Agric support

Gabriel Suswam has been complaining about everything in PDP for a long time, from leadership to congresses and the rest of them. We had congresses in Bene State, and some of them lost out, and then they want to bring the roof down. Honestly, like I said, I don’t want to talk about personalities, because what are some of these people bringing to the table? If you contest an election on the platform of PDP, you lose, save from a zone. The House of Representatives lost everything. The House of Assembly lost everything.  And then, you have the audacity to complain about that platform.

Samuel Ortom, former governor of Benue, also complained about the some forces within the party. And now that they are leaving, what do you make of that? Sometimes, you think that some of these exits are good riddance to bad rubbish, because some of these people, I can tell you today, may have been responsible for the crisis that we have in PDP today.

Both the party’s vice presidential and the presidential candidates in the 2023 election have left the party. And they gave reasons for lack of ideological clarity, lack of cohesion, lack of leadership and all the rest of them. Isn’t that correct?

These are issues that ordinarily I would not want to talk about, because these are people that have come a long way in politics, these are elder statesmen, and like I said, they had better say they are leaving PDP for personal reasons, and not to give flimsy excuses.

Are you able to douse the tension and quench the fire? For example, in Osun State now, the story that Governor Ademola Adeleke is exiting from the PDP is getting stronger by the day. What’s your reaction?

Are you able to assist the party to quench the fire? So, let me tell you something. A time of crisis is a time for speculation. A time of crisis is a time to spread falsehood.

You know too well that I occupy a position in the PDP that has given me the opportunity of seeing from both sides of the coin. And I can tell you today, mark my word, everything about Adeleke leaving PDP to go to another party and the rest of them are mere speculations. I can tell you, as at this moment that I am talking to you, there is no story before me to indicate that Adeleke and members of his group in Osun State are leaving the PDP.

But, two senators and many other loyalists of the governor in Osun have decamped, yet you claimed that Adeleke is not leaving the PDP?

Many are leaving on the excuse of a crisis in the party, but we know that they are leaving the PDP for fear of their future. They are afraid of survival. They think that if they remain in PDP, this present administration has the capacity to derail their elections, to ensure that they do not win elections and the rest of them. But they forget. Who made them senators today? Who made them governors today? Who made them House of Representatives members today? The electorate! And, I have said it consistently. Majority of the electorates that are members of PDP or sympathizers of PDP, are still there. And they will determine who becomes what in the next election. I’m afraid for them. Let those people not jump from the frying pan to the fire.

Some analysts are saying that Adeleke’s bid of getting a re-election is assured if he moves into the APC. Can that be correct?

Those people speculating that Adeleke will be more assured of his re-election in APC than if he stays in PDP, have forgotten that serious members of the APC in Osun State, have said that Adeleke should not come to their party because they have enough candidates to win the governorship election in 2026. And those persons in APC were there when Adeleke fought and won his election.

Now he has become a governor. I keep telling my colleagues that the only certificate to winning re-election is good governance. And so if Adeleke continues to do those things that Osun people want, executing projects that are germane to the lives of the people, that impact on the lives of the people, I can tell you whatever platform and PDP that he is now, will give him the victory.

Since the exit of Atiku, we are hearing and seeing reports from Adamawa, Bauchi, and even in Bayelsa of prominent PDP members defecting or threatening to defect in solidarity with Atiku. Are we witnessing the beginning of a political hemorrhage for the PDP ahead of 2027?

Well, again, I am an incurable optimist. There was this day that the Board of Trustees of the PDP was re-inaugurated. And some new members were inducted. If you were a pessimist, if you had thought that PDP had died and you saw former governors, former senate president, former House of Representatives members, former House of Assembly members, and former deputy governors converged to be inducted as members of the BoT, then that exercise alone is enough to keep hope alive. And so today, you are talking about people, prominent PDP members who are in sympathy with Atiku, threatening to decamp to ADC in sympathy with Atiku? All these people that you are talking about, I suppose, were there in 2023. And you will agree with me that one of the most disastrous elections that PDP had ever got involved with was the 2023 general election. It was disastrous. It was disastrous. Especially, look at my state, for instance: out of 11 House of Representatives members, PDP won only in one constituency, Agatu, in my senatorial constituency. For the presidential election, I am the only senator on the platform of the PDP that won my election. The rest went to APC. For the presidential election, of course, APC won in Benue State. The records are there.

It is not, therefore, automatic for anybody to assume that because you have big names moving to a political party, that party will win an election. What you do with the electorate, your antecedents with the electorate and the rest of them will determine whether you win an election or not.

And I can assure you that by the time, and I said it before, by the time PDP puts all the processes that we have engaged in, caucus meeting, BoT meeting, NEC meeting, national convention, by the time we put all these processes together and PDP settles down, my party will bounce back because the people are still there. The electorates are there. The PDP is a very big brand that in every nook and cranny of Nigeria today, you will find members of the PDP. And so because people are decamping from PDP to another party or to other parties, somebody thinks that PDP is dead. No, PDP is not dead.

     PDP will spring surprises.

Will the PDP be joining forces with other parties to defeat the APC in 2027?

Well, you know, this is a new phenomenon in Nigerian politics. And you know too well too, that it is a rare occurrence in other civilized democracies. If you look at the American system, for instance, there are so many political parties. But the two dominant political parties are the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. In the last general election, you saw what happened.  The Democratic Party is still there, working hard to bounce back. The Republican Party is holding on. And so here in Nigeria, there was nothing fantastic about losing our elections in 2023.

One of the issues that have affected your party is the North-South presidency.  In the spirit of peace and balance, which region should produce the president in 2027?

I did say from the beginning of this interview that some of the people leaving the PDP now had been responsible for the crisis in the party in the first place. In 2022/23, the PDP decided to put its best foot forward in picking Atiku Abubakar against an unwritten agreement of North-South presidency. But, it backfired. Then, we went into this crisis. And at that time, the majority of Nigerians chose a southern candidate to fulfill the unwritten convention of North-South presidency. That presidency is four years by the end of 2026. The constitution permits an individual four years of two-terms. Again, it will produce some sort of somersault, if we try to tinker with the idea of taking the presidency to the North. The reasonable thing to do is that the South should still produce the next president to complete eight years. And automatically, though unwritten, Nigerians will be looking to the North for president in 2031.

SDP raises the alarm over alleged invasion of national secretariat

The National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Dr. Olu Agunloye on Tuesday raised the alarm over the alleged invasion of the National Secretariat in Abuja with the intention of carting away vital official party documents

A statement  in Abuja by Agunloye claimed that eight of the suspects were arrested by the police operatives.

According to him: “On Monday, 28 July 2025, some pretty aggressive intruders broke into the National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja at about midday. They came with dangerous weapons and armed men to burgle the building.

“They gained forceful entry into the building and broke into the offices but the timely intervention of agile men of the Nigeria Police Force saved the day.

“The Police caught the intruders with administrative papers, financial papers, official stamps and seals, bank books, and office documents and other valuables already stolen from the offices and being loaded into two vehicles.

“Four of the marauders were identified. They were arrested and taken to the FCT Police Headquarters and detained.

“A trio, which fled the premises before the Police could grab them were later caught in an uncompleted building where they were hiding near a big bed and arrested by men of the FCID arm of the Police.

“They were tracked for over three hours by the Police before they were caught. These two men and the lady were suspected to have deposited items stolen from the SDP Secretariat safely in a hidden place before they were caught.

“All the eight invaders have been detained in police custody and may be charged in court on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.

“The stolen materials recovered from them and the Toyota Corolla and Mercedes Benz cars in which the materials were loaded are also still in the police custody.

“The seven men and the experienced lady had made useful statements to the Police. The men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Police Force present at the Secretariat had also made useful statements to the Police.

“It is noteworthy that this is first time in the history of the Social Democratic Party in nearly forty years that lawless men, bullies or rough necks or outright ruffians who join the SDP will actually be moving to attack the party or steal its documents and property or seek to destroy the party, or attempt to take it over or turn it into a transactional tool.

“Some of the people in these categories have had to be disciplined, suspended or expelled and even barred for 30 years. It is certainly not a welcome development”.

However, when contacted for clarifications on the matter, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said she was yet to be briefed on the incident.

According to him: “I am not aware of the incident, and I’m yet to be briefed on it”.

Reps Deputy Speaker Kalu withdraws Indigeneship Bill

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu has withdrawn the cm indigeneship bill before the National Assembly, which has generated some controversies in recent days.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Kalu said that the withdrawal has become necessary in view of the concerns and constructive feedback received from various stakeholders regarding the bill.

He added that the bill analysis report, forwarded by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), also made it imperative for him to step down the bill at this time.

Although the intention of the bill was to promote national unity, equity and inclusiveness among all Nigerians, regardless of where they reside, part of the report stated that the State Houses of Assembly should make laws that will make settlers in different states enjoy the same rights and privileges by the indigenes.

“States should make laws that would allow settlers to benefit same rights and privileges enjoyed by indigenes without any form of discrimination as rightly provided for in the constitution.

“Though the Bill seeks to achieve some commendable objectives, however, this can be achieved through enactment of law. If this Bill is passed, it would pose challenges with time especially on the issue of double or multiple indigenship,” the report stated.

Kalu, who is the also chairman of the Constitution Review Committee of the House, said that he is committed to ensuring that every legislative proposal reflects the wishes of the people.

“As leaders and Representatives, we remain committed to ensuring that every legislative proposal reflects the aspirations of the people we serve.

“The Constitution Review process remains an open, inclusive, and participatory exercise, and no provision or proposal will be pursued without adequate dialogue and consensus-building.

“I therefore call on citizens to continue engaging constructively with the House Committee on Constitutional Review as we work together to build a more just, united, and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

2027: Diaspora group endorses Tinubu for second term

…seeks legal backing for diaspora voting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid has received a major boost from Nigerians in the diaspora, as members of Yoruba Ni Colorado (YNC), United States of America, declared their support and vowed to mobilise votes for his return to office.

The declaration was made on Tuesday by YNC President, Dr. Adetola Obiwole, during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai, in Abuja.

Dr. Obiwole said Nigerians abroad have been closely monitoring President Tinubu’s reforms since 2023 and are convinced the country is now on a path of sustainable progress. She stressed the need for continuity in 2027.

She also called on the National Assembly to amend the constitution to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in future elections through diaspora voting.

“We restate our unalloyed support for President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and we urge the National Assembly to fast-track legislation that will ensure diaspora voting,” Obiwole appealed.

Also speaking, the General Secretary of YNC, Prince George Sotade, declared that “there is no vacancy in the Villa,” assuring the President of the unflinching support of the Yoruba diaspora community for his re-election in 2027.

According to Sotade, “We don’t need to talk too much. There is no vacancy in the Villa. Anybody running around is just doing that to bring more votes for us, for Asiwaju. The TSG is doing a good job in getting votes for Asiwaju.

“This visit is to let the world know that the Yoruba nation in US and by extension all Nigerians in US are behind Asiwaju.”

Members of the group, who are currently on medical outreach to some communities in the country, later honoured the Director-General of TSG for the lofty works of the support group in ensuring the electoral success of the president.

Appreciating the group, Director General, TSG, Dr Umar Tanko Yakasai commended them for coming to give back to the country.

“Some Nigerians when they travel, they forget home and think that they are in developed countries and so don’t want to associate with the rest of us here,” he said.

Yakasai praised them for their excellent works in the US, saying it was unfortunate that people tend to focus on the few bad eggs giving Nigerians a bad name in other countries as opposed to the majority of hardworking Nigerians doing great in their various fields.

He recalled how the group also supported Tinubu in 2023, thanking them for remaining consistent in their beliefs.

He, therefore, urged them to mobilize to come home and vote, saying every vote counts.

He also called on medical personnel in the diaspora to develop advanced mentorship programme for young Nigerian medical professionals in the country, with a view to halting medical tourism.

2027: ‘Enugu APC has capable candidate to take over from Mbah’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Chief Basil Ani, has said the party has a capable candidate who can take over from Governor Peter Mbah in 2027.

He believes that any poll conducted in the state would see APC cruising to a landslide victory.

Ani, who spoke on Tuesday in Enugu, was reacting to the governor’s rumoured plan to defect to the APC.

He argued that the PDP administration in Enugu has not done much to bring dividends of democracy to the people, which he said he resulted in low ratings for the ruling party.

According to Ani, the APC in Enugu has recorded tremendous growth in statistics and inflow of thousands of defectors from the PDP and LP, thanks to the leadership sagacity of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.

The party, he insisted, therefore has the capacity to win the governorship election without Mbah needing to defect.

Ani said the influx of chieftains of PDP, LP, and APGA into the APC signals a shift in the political climate of Enugu, which he attributed to Nnaji’s leadership.

He added, “With Chief Uche Nnaji’s leadership, APC Enugu went from the worst performing party to the best performing party in the entire country, welcoming thousands of decampees every two weeks. All these were achieved in Enugu as an opposition party.

“Through the mantra of the renewed Hope Agenda of president Bola Tinubu, GCFR, the minister has been able to empower about 5,000 Enugu indigenes in form of federal jobs, appointments, empowerments.”

The APC chieftain urged Mbah to take immediate steps to secure citizens from marauding herdsmen.

He further urged the Mbah administration to prioritise security, and the wellbeing of Enugu people.

Ani insisted that APC would win in a landslide victory if a gubernatorial election was conducted in Enugu now.

“APC is confident in its ability to govern Enugu and has a capable candidate to take over from Governor Mbah in 2027,” Ani claimed.

He acknowledged the disappointment his decision might cause to his lovers and support groups, but emphasised the need to focus on other important engagements.

“At this point in my journey, I am committed to several important engagements and responsibilities that require my complete focus and personal attention. “Your confidence and trust mean more than words can express”, he said placating his supporters.

The politician reassured supporters the decision would not affect his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Velocity Humanitarian Foundation, which he promised would continue to deliver its mission of providing interventions and empowerment to the vulnerable.
