APC North central chairmen declare party ready for 2027, dismiss ADC as ‘worn-out vehicle’

The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central states chairmen has expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections, dismissing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “worn-out political vehicle” incapable of matching the governing party.

Leader of the forum and Kwara State APC Chairman, Hon. Sunday Fagbemi, made this declaration on Thursday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after he and five other state chairmen from the zone paid a condolence visit to the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, over the death of his mother last month.

Fagbemi said the APC remains focused on delivering on the people-centered Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and cannot be distracted by the noise of the opposition.

“The bold steps taken by our leader, President Tinubu, are yielding results. We are good to go. Let us not be distracted. Before the next election commences, everything will be fine,” he said.

He stressed that Nigeria’s development is a continuous project that cannot be completed in one term, noting that the people have already placed their trust in the APC.

“We trust the people who have already given us their confidence. We are not betraying that. We know we will do better than we are doing now. Nigeria is good to go for the APC,” Fagbemi added.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising support across the North Central region to ensure the APC consolidates its position as the dominant political force ahead of the 2027 polls.

Commending the president for the progress made so far, Fagbemi said, “he has done a lot and enough in terms of economic recovery. All of us can attest to the fact that food stuff prices are going down daily. And it is because of the diversification. I am not talking about oil.

“You can not go to the CBN and become an emergency billionaire. The naira has been floated. The economy is going in the right direction. So we are happy with what our leader is doing. And if you go to various states, including the PDP states. They are so happy that the allocation they are getting now is about three to four times what they were getting.”

On whether the ruling party is not threatened by the opposition, the APC Nasarawa state chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello dismissed them, saying: ” The Chairman of the PDP, which is the main opposition, is also from north-central. We defeated them.

“Why are you talking about the people that just went to a party yesterday and became an emergency exco without doing congresses. What are their antecedents? They were in position before.

“The issue of the new party, ADC, is like a vehicle with old driver, old engine, the spare tires are not even working. Why are we even bothering ourselves? It is the same old people. Is there anybody there that you don’t know? Is there anybody you can not tell the story about him? “

On issue of insecurity in the North-Central, the Plateau State Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale said the issue is being addressed head-on by the Tinubu-led administration, adding that insecurity was not peculiar to North-Central States or Nigeria generally.

“The question of insecurity is not peculiar to north-central alone. It is all over the world. The world is a very small village. You know what is happening in the world. Nigeria will not be a case in isolation. At the same time, when we are talking about insecurity, it is all over the country. It is not peculiar to north-central states

“We can see what the government is doing by combing every nook and corner to ensure that these people are pushed out. So with God on our side, it will soon become an issue of history,” Omale expressed.

The visiting chairmen were, Dr. Benjamin Omale – Benue, Sunday Fagbemi – Kwara, Dr. Aliyu Bello – Nasarawa, Bobi Aminu – Niger, Rufus Bature – Plateau, AbdulMalik Usman – FCT

Poll rates Tajudeen Abbas as most loved speaker

A new survey of lawmakers in the House of Representatives has rated Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the 10th Assembly, as the most loved presiding officer in recent democratic history.

The survey, conducted among a sample of 50 members — comprising 25 returning lawmakers and 25 first-term members — revealed widespread approval of Abbas’ leadership style, which respondents described as “inclusive, accessible, and reform-driven.”

Many lawmakers praised Abbas for transcending party lines, ensuring that all members feel valued, and strengthening the legislative process.

A first-term lawmaker said, “As a new member, you would ordinarily expect to be sidelined, but Speaker Abbas has shown us that the House belongs to all of us. He reaches out, he listens, and he makes us feel like equal stakeholders. That’s something rare in parliamentary politics.”

A returning lawmaker added, “I have served under three different Speakers, but Tajudeen Abbas is different. He does not carry himself with arrogance. He treats everyone with respect and consults widely before major decisions are taken. That has endeared him to members across divides.”

Abbas has also been credited for enhancing oversight and legislative output. Several respondents noted that the current House has moved more motions and passed more bills in its two years than previous assemblies.

However, a few lawmakers voiced reservations, mainly from the perspective of wanting a more confrontational Speaker.

A member from Rivers State in the opposition commented, “We respect Speaker Abbas, but we would like a Speaker who is more aggressive in challenging the executive on certain issues. That is the only point where we feel he could be bolder.

“Yet, many cited Abbas’ neutrality and fairness as a reason for their admiration.

A PDP member from Kebbi State said, “His leadership does not favour PDP or APC. In fact, that impartiality is why we love him. Everyone feels represented, and politics does not interfere with the work of the House.”

Members also applauded the Speaker for reforms in welfare, particularly through the House Committee on House Services, which manages the work environment for lawmakers.

One lawmaker said, “Gone are the days we worked in offices without WiFi or functioning air conditioning. Today, under Abbas, our offices are fully equipped, and members are happy. It’s a tangible improvement in our day-to-day working life.”

Another new member highlighted the decentralisation of power, “The Speaker has empowered committees to function effectively. Chairs are trusted to deliver on their mandates, which has improved efficiency and visibility in legislative work.”

Several respondents also praised Abbas’ intellectual depth, noting that his academic background informs his methodical approach to debates and policy-making.

“He is not just a politician; he is a thinker,” said one returning lawmaker.

Overall, the survey suggests that Speaker Abbas has succeeded in uniting a diverse chamber, combining reformist zeal with fairness and attention to member welfare.

As one participant summed it up, “Love is not a word often used in politics, but in this House, it is the best way to describe how members feel about Speaker Abbas.”

Tinubu seeks NASS backing to fast-track State Police

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday said his administration would work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly to remove political and bureaucratic bottlenecks stalling the operationalisation of state police in Nigeria.

Speaking at the State House, Abuja, during a meeting with members of the Northeast Governors Forum led by Babagana  Zulum, the President said the time had come for a clear, collective path towards community-based policing that reflects the peculiar needs of different regions.

“I have been looking at the security situation more carefully. I have seen the Civilian JTF react to the security challenges, finding so many creative ways to protect neighbourhoods and communities around you, and that provoked my thinking about state police again.

“Politics apart, we can discuss with the National Assembly leadership to really look at a critical path to that again, see how we can eliminate or douse political alliances from state police that will be indigenous to the community and provide the additional safety buffer and effectiveness in the area. We have to look at it collectively together,”Tinubu said.

The President stressed that while political concerns will always surface around the issue, they must not be allowed to derail urgent security reforms.

He said his government was committed to ensuring that the proposed structure would be insulated from partisanship and designed purely to strengthen safety across communities.

Tinubu also vowed not to allow partisan politics or early campaign distractions to shift his focus from national priorities.

“In the political environment we are being drawn into early political activities from our rival political parties but whichever way it is, I am not detracted. I am solidly focused, laser focused on what is ahead,” he told the Governors.

He said the gains already being recorded in the Northeast — including improved security, resettlement of displaced persons, rising school enrolment, and new housing projects — were proof that collaborative governance works.

He urged the Governors to sustain commitment to development and security while assuring them of continued federal support.

“In the short run of two years, we can beat our chest, the economy has turned round. Many of you are already sending back displaced citizens, the housing programme you embarked upon in Borno and collectively seen how displaced people are returning to their normal residences and having a roof over their head,” the President noted.

Tinubu further highlighted agricultural mechanisation as a priority, disclosing plans to establish training and maintenance centres in all zones of the country to drive food sovereignty.

He also commended Yobe State for producing outstanding students despite the region’s challenges, describing it as a sign of resilience and progress.

He concluded by thanking the governors for their dedication, saying the combined efforts of federal and state governments were laying the foundation for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

Zulum urged President Tinubu to prioritise the completion of 17 strategic roads across the region and resume oil exploration activities in the Kolmani and Lake Chad basins.

Speaking on behalf of the forum Governor Zulum said the requests formed part of critical interventions needed to reverse years of neglect and environmental setbacks suffered by the sub-region.

He noted that improved infrastructure and energy development would help tackle insecurity and boost economic opportunities.

The Governors listed the roads requiring urgent completion and construction to include the Kano–Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri railway line, Bama–Mubi–Yola Road, Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road, Damaturu–Geidam Road, and Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road, among others.

They also requested the Federal Government to support the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) with additional funding to sustain operations against insurgents in the Lake Chad region and other identified flashpoints such as Sambisa Forest, Mandara Hills, Karin Lamido, and Dajin Madama.

Zulum commended the Tinubu administration for sustaining military pressure on insurgents and for interventions in environmental challenges such as flooding and desertification, but stressed the need for more targeted investments in security and development.

“As a sub-region, we have the peculiarity of managing large states with unmanned forests, gorges, deserts, mountains, and rivers which make them inaccessible and often hard to reach, almost becoming ungoverned spaces. This has exacerbated the security challenges of the region,” he explained.

The Governors pledged support for President Tinubu’s reforms and promised to partner with the federal government to deliver lasting legacies for Nigeria.

“We are compelled to address you today on a matter of grave concern, which threatens the peace, unity, and cohesion of our great party, particularly in Jigawa State,” Uba said.

He called on the APC national leadership to urgently investigate the alleged misconduct, which he said has caused public unrest and embarrassment to the party.

The coalition further urged the party to invoke disciplinary measures, in line with its constitution, to serve as a deterrent to members attempting to undermine the APC’s unity and authority in Jigawa or beyond.

According to him, “We urge the party to reinforce internal discipline and loyalty, and reaffirm the supremacy of party structures and leadership, especially at the state level”.

He noted that “The All Progressives Congress (APC) stands for discipline, integrity, and unity. It is unacceptable that individuals occupying positions of national responsibility will engage in acts that not only divide us but endanger peace and progress”.

“We remain loyal to the leadership of the party at all levels and stand firmly behind His Excellency, Governor Umar Namadi, whose developmental strides and inclusive governance continue to uplift Jigawa State”.

Uba added that, “We trust that the party will act swiftly and decisively in the interest of justice, peace, and party supremacy”.

The coalition condemned the allege Inciting, inflammatory, and derogatory statements said to have been made against the governor of state, Malam Umar Namadi and the leadership of the party.

  • Tinubu must complete South’s 8-year slot as Buhari did for North – Ex-deputy speaker

Tinubu must complete South’s 8-year slot as Buhari did for North – Ex-deputy speaker

A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, has called on coalition leaders to abandon what he described as a power-grabbing agenda, stressing that President Bola Tinubu must complete the South’s two-term, eight-year tenure just as the North did under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders from Ahoada East and Ahoada West local government areas, which he convened at his residence in support of President Tinubu and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, Nwuche rallied support for the President.

The former lawmaker, who brought together stakeholders from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the Team Rivers for Tinubu (TRT), also expressed gratitude to Tinubu and Wike for his appointment as Chairman of the Southsouth Development Commission (SSDC).

Nwuche urged stakeholders to stand behind Tinubu for a second term in 2027, insisting no coalition could derail the President’s re-election bid.

He described the coalition leaders as individuals driven by selfish ambition rather than genuine commitment to development.

He said, “President Tinubu came and in his first tenure removed subsidy, which they could not do when they were in power. With the bold reforms and economic transformation of President Tinubu, the states are awashed with money and the governors have a lot of money at their disposal to pay salaries and execute projects. The President inherited tough economic challenges, but he is tackling them”.

Nwuche wondered why the coalition leaders were showing desperate hunger for power, a few years after leaving their various political positions and asked them to try again after Tinubu’s eight years in office.

He said: “These people just left power, but they are already hungry for it again. Some of us left our positions about 20 years ago, but are still supporting genuine courses. We are not doing any coalition of power grabbing with them. We are going to support Tinubu’s second term. It is the turn of the South to do eight years and President Tinubu is doing a wonderful job of it”.

Speaking to the elders, women, youths and party leaders from the two local government areas, Nwuche said President Tinubu deserved the support of all stakehokders for the love he had shown to Wike, the Rivers people and the Niger Delta region.

He said the President had continued to stand by Wike and to empower him with all necessary resources and encouragement he required to drive his vision for the FCT.

Nwuche, who described Wike as an excellent performer, said the former Rivers Governor had transformed Abuja the same way he turned around the fortunes of Rivers during his administration as a governor.

He said, “The FCT is now wearing a new look with many projects completed and ongoing. Even those, who do not like the government can’t deny the fact that the government of President Tinubu with Chief Nyesom Wike is delivering the dividends of democracy and is performing spectacularly well”.
