    When Oluwatoyin Makinde dazzled dad in Lagos

    Oluwatoyin Makinde recently made his father, His Eminence Dr. Ola Sunday Makinde, a happy and proud man when he led his sisters, Bidemi, Oyeyemi and brother, Temilolu Makinde to throw a classy party to celebrate his 80th birthday.

    A trained Pure Chemistry from the University of Abuja, who caught the IT bug after his first degree, Toyin couldn’t hide his love for his dad describing the former prelate of the Methodist Church as a Soldier of Christ that preaches salvation and holiness. He further described his father as a scholar, a super prayer warrior, a religious leader par excellence, a fearless man, a disciplinarian, a voice for the voiceless, a philanthropist and a loving and caring husband and father.

    Toyin, his sisters and brother all ensured guests and dignitaries that attended their father’s birthday had a swell time. The dignitaries include  incumbent governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, former governors and ministers, Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, and Segun Oni.

    Currently based in the United Kingdom, where he works with TVS Supply Chain, Toyin holds the position of a product consultant to the multinational company and the biggest Supply Chain company in Europe.

    As a side hustle, the dandy Toyin also runs a franchise business known as the Website Development Partnership where he designs websites for big companies such as the supermarkets, the movie industries, pharmaceuticals by helping businesses tell their stories to build robust relationships with their clients.

    Fondly remembering some of the memories with his dad, Toyin picks the most striking one as seeing him cry when he was going to the UK for further his studies in 2002.

    The journey to the UK has seen Toyin getting himself armed with an MSC program in Business Information Systems at the University of Bolton, an MBA degree from the University of Bradford, UK, as well as becoming a Certified Management Consultant, a Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants and a Fellow, British Computer Society.

    Since arriving in the UK in 2002 and studying at different institutions, he has worked in numerous financial institutions like Barclays, Retailing Services, Identity Management, Automotive Services, Supply Chain Management. He is currently writing up my dissertation for Doctorate Degree at the William Howard Taft University in Denver, Colorado.

    On Saturday, October 14, 2023, when the Emirate witnessed a mammoth crowd to celebrate the 30th anniversary of HRH Auwal Ibrahim’s rule as Emir, Aisha joined the emir in turbaning the new Queen of Zazzau Suleja.

    Aisha’s love for culture and history is legendary and with a firm belief that traditional title holders are very important to the development, her passion to support, uplift and just support or create a friendly productive ecosystem continues growing with every achievement.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Onions Caterers Bukky Fagbuaro recently played host to members of the Apostle of Peace Society in her home.

    The entire Idewon Quarters of the ancient town of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, was electrified when the Fidipote Descendants stretching as far and wide as Odo Nla in Ikorodu, Lagos State, celebrated the life of Pa Otunba Wahab O. Osinusi.

    The late Osinusi, who was the Chairman Fidipote Royal Descendants and member Egbe Mafowoku Okunrin of Ijebuland was given a befitting passing rite on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

    The owner of the prestigious Waccus Hotel, Ijebu Ode, passed away on September 30, 2023, at the age of 91 and the event was the eighth Day Fidau for the departed Otunba Fidipote.

    The large entourage of Oba elect of Odo Nla, Prince Olusoga Olowolekomoh led by Prince Sijuade Hammed Oyebo, also attended the ceremony.

    Amid the merrymaking, Jolu Odubena, Akowe Egbe of the Bobajolu Okunrin Akile Ijebuland in his speech, described the late Otunba Osinusi as a “legal luminary and entrepreneur whose wisdom and wise counsel would be missed by both the young and old in the family.”

    Otunba Osinusi, according to Odubena, was an articulate, soft-spoken, easy-going enigma with charismatic steps, admired in any attire he wore with catching smiles.

    Even as a well-respected practising lawyer of more than six decades, he extends pleasantries to people as equals.

    Eminent Nigerian personalities led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu showered encomiums on His Eminence Dr. Sunday Olatunji Makinde when he turned 80 on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

    Tinubu described Makinde as a man of unwavering faith, whose ministry has been characterised by a profound commitment to advancing the values of love, selflessness, and social justice as embedded in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

    In the same vein, two former governors and ministers, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Segun Oni took turns to shower accolades on Makinde when his family held a thanksgiving service to celebrate the illustrious life of the prelate emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.

    The ceremony, which was held at the Hoares Memorial Methodist Cathedral in the Sabo area of Yaba, Lagos, had several dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance.

    After the thanksgiving service, a colourful reception was organised for Dr. Makinde, his wife, family, friends, and associates by his children in a hall within the church’s premises.

    Most Rev. Dr. Ayo Olawuyi and Temilolu Makinde, ensured dignitaries and associates of the prelate emeritus were well taken care of at the colourful reception.

    Makinde was born on October 10, 1943, in the twin villages of Ogunranti and Balogun Kure in Lagelu Local Government, Ibadan, Oyo State.

    He made his mark in the ministry when he was transferred to Abuja to establish the Diocese of Abuja in 1993.

    He was elevated to an Archbishop when Abuja became an Archdiocese in 1998 and was able to complete the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s House, established two Nursery and Primary Schools, established many churches, acquired lands for Methodist Church Nigeria, and put Methodist Church Nigeria on the map of Federal Capital Territory within the nine years he stayed in Abuja. He was transferred to Lagos as the Archbishop of Lagos in 2003.

    His achievements as the Archbishop of Lagos were enormous.

    In 2006, he was elected as the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria and was invested on November 12, 2006, at Trinity Methodist Church, Tinubu, Lagos with people from all walks of life.

    Otunba Tajudeen Abass is known for his humanitarian gestures, little wonder many were not surprised when he made the list of those to be honoured by the Rotary Club of Gbagada, Lagos.

    Known for his contributions to the advancement of humanity, Abass expressed fulfilment at the honour.

    Those who know him will tell you that milk of kindness runs in Abass’ blood. A graduate of the University of Houston, United States of America, and a former president of Eko Club International, the apex club of Lagosians in the diaspora, actively contributed to the cash grant initiative for Lagosians from all five Divisions that make up Lagos State.

    The media executive was hosted at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Lagos, where he received the award from the Rotary Club of Gbagada.

    “Anytime you are given such recognition, you feel so special. It is an opportunity for me to do more for society because we cannot all change the entire world in a night but we can change one life at a time by being altruistic, by having the compassion and the desire to make the society a better place. I feel fulfilled to receive the award,” he said.
