    Our Reporter

The Bishop of Methodist Church,Nigeria, Owo Diocese in Ondo state, Rt. Rev’d Solomon Adegbite has urged the Federal Government to clear its name by addressing insecurity that seemingly targeted at Christians.

In certain quarters, there had been outburst on perceived ethnic cleansing and targeting of Christians for annihilation.

The cleric gave the charge at the weekend while addressing the 32nd Annual Diocesan Synod held at the Methodist Church,Odode,Idanre.

Adegbite noted that it is like the nation was being configured to favour a particular section of the country.

According to him:” There is an evidence of sharp division along ethnic and religious lines which has been so glaring since the present administration came on board.

” The killings of innocent Nigerians have been going on unabated as if some people are licensed to kill and destroy other peoples’ property even without any provocations.”

The cleric also charged the Federal Government to provide enabling environment for all and sundry, stressing the suspicious policies on grazing, ranching, colony, rugs and giving of land to herdsmen who have been ravaging the land are not in the right direction.

However, Adegbite lauded the floating of Amotekun(Southwest Security Network), urging the Southwest Governors to work assiduously and ensure the conception of the security outfit.

  • ‘Dreams are spiritual weapons’

    ‘Dreams are spiritual weapons’

    John Ofikhenua, Abuja

Founder and Senior Pastor of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, has charged Nigerians to pay attention to their dreams.

He described dreams as a spiritual weapons for overcoming mounting challenges.

In a sermon on Sunday, Fufeyin said God uses dream to prepare people for exponential shifts.
His words : “Everyone dreams. Dreams are God’s avenue to prepare you for significant occasions, and exponential shifts.”

Fufeyin said his church has anchored a special programme tagged “Dreams, Interpretations and Solutions (DIS)”, disclosing it would better guide children of God on the interpretations of their dreams, as it is essential to solving spiritual quagmires.

Fufeyin urged people from all walks of life, regardless of their religious affiliations or denominations, to take their dreams very seriously as things only manifest physically when they have been concluded spiritually,

“Kings, Queens, and people of great societal status do not joke with their dreams because they understand it’s non-negotiable importance to humanity. It is important to dream but more importantly, clarity is of great necessity if anything good must come out of your dreams. Dream interpretations gives proper direction to your prayers because once the cause of a problem is known the solution is not far; this is why it is even more imperative to seek prophetic interpretations and solutions to your dreams.

“One cannot afford to trivialize dreams anymore because they can also be utilized by the devil, to manipulate the future if not fully understood,” he stated.

According to him, it has been realised that all dreams are significant, and that God has blessed a few men with the Josephic ability to interpret dreams and proffer effective, spirit-given solutions.

Fufeyin added the “Dreams, Interpretations and Solutions, DIS” programme, which has been in existence for years was necessary and directed towards, impacting and transforming millions of lives across the globe.

“This programme has changed the lackadaisical attitude of many believers towards their dreams.

“Pay more attention to your dreams, and connect with the power-packed program, for life changing interpretations and spiritual results!

“Also, feel free to reach out to the Joseph of this generation, a man who God has heavily graced and gifted with the ministry of dream interpretations and solutions,” he stated.

  • ‘Lagos right to suspend reopening of worship centres’

‘Lagos right to suspend reopening of worship centres’

    Adeola Ogunlade

The Senior Pastor of PRAISE ARENA, Kingdom Light Christian Centre, Lekki Lagos, Pastor Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju, has thrown his weight behind the suspension of reopening of worship centres by the Lagos State Government.

He said reopening of worship centre would pose serious threat to worshippers.

Adetoyese-Olagunju said this while reacting to the indefinite suspension of the reopening worship centres byGovernor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He admitted the initial order for reopening of worship centres was of great concern to him and some church leaders based on the increasing rate of COVID-19 infections.

He noted studies across the world have shown in some countries, the rise in the infections and death rate were traced to religious actvities.

He said: “Opening the religious centers at a time we have such increase in Lagos State is like walking into COVID-19 death trap and no church leader will be happy to see their members dead when the pandemics is eventually over.

“In Africa, we are socially connected based on our culture hence you can’t sustain too much social distance in the churches for too long because of the sense of divine security that may result in non-compliance with the much needed safety precautions.”

He argued it would be difficult to observe social distancing if worship centres reopen.

The cleric charged church leaders to go digital by exploring the possibility of using social media for their services, which he said is also an opportunity for the church talking over the air waves.

“In our church, our online services on Facebook moved from 250 view to more than 30,000 views and 8,000 ThruPlays when we explored ways to reach wider audience across the Country. Necessity is the mother of inventions.

“Although not having the traditional congregational services affected church finances but we are happy that more people are able to hear the transforming messages through wider outreach via online services on the social media, which is the essence of the great commission. God who knows our sincerity will reward our efforts in due season,” he stated.

  • Covenant gateways to supernatural breakthroughs!

    Covenant gateways to supernatural breakthroughs!

    Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to another exciting week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Covenant Gateways to Supernatural Breakthroughs!

We recognise from Scriptures that light from heaven through the Word is the foundation of Kingdom mysteries that guarantees undeniable breakthroughs. The Word of God is the master key to a world of supernatural breakthroughs (Luke 5:4-6). We must understand that breakthrough is not a state of being; it is a lifestyle. No one qualifies for supernatural breakthrough without first believing in its possibility. Therefore, we must possess a possibility mentality to qualify for supernatural breakthrough. As it is written, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee (Proverbs 23:7). Remember, our mentality defines our destiny. We cannot possess a grasshopper mentality and operate like an eagle. It is our thought that determines our lot; thus,  until our mind is renewed by the Word of God, our lives cannot be transformed. It is also important that we commit to thinking unlimited possibilities in order to command supernatural breakthroughs. So, whatever we cannot imagine; we cannot make happen.

Also, understand that every redeemed soul is a potential star, but we cannot emerge a star with the mentality of a common man. Jesus said, I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star (Revelation 22:16; see also John 17:18). So, if He came as the bright and morning star, then we are ordained as stars on the earth.

What Then is Our Breakthrough Root?

    • As A Seed of Abraham, We Are God’s Candidate for Supernatural Breakthroughs: We have been redeemed to enjoy the blessings of Abraham (Genesis 22:17-18; Galatians 3:13-14). This implies that every child of God is a seed of Abraham; which qualifies him/her to be a global citizen. For it is written, And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). So, we are ordained to impact on all nations of the earth.
    • Redemption Makes Us A Supernatural Breakthrough Entity: We are breakthrough personalities and pacesetters. The Bible says, Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:13-14).
    • We Have A Supernatural Breakthrough Heritage as An End-Time Saint: We are in the last days and according to Scriptures, authority shall be domiciled in the Church. The Church will practically be in charge of everything that works. The Church will reign by explosive revelation and will be a university of divine inspiration (Micah 4:1-2; Isaiah 2:2-3).

What Are the Demands for Supernatural Breakthroughs?

Our proper positioning in God’s master plan for our lives is vital in determining our levels of breakthrough. That is, where we are positioned determines the outcome of our lives. Therefore, we must be covenantly positioned to command supernatural breakthroughs. Among others, our breakthroughs will demand the following:

    • We Should Mind the Company We Keep: Where we stand, sit and the company we keep determines our level of breakthroughs. Remember, our association can either make or break us (Psalm 1:1-3). Abraham was called but Lot went with him and he became a partaker of the grace of God on Abraham (Genesis 13:5). The company we keep determines what accompanies us. Also, according to Scriptures, Saul came into the midst of the prophets and he began to prophesy by the Spirit of the Lord. Thus, he became a proverbial success and began to manifest above natural realms because he was in the right company (1 Samuel 10:11-12).
    • We Must Belong to A Particular God-Ordained Place of Worship: Before we were born, God knew us and had appointed us to a place of worship (Deuteronomy 12:13-14). He separated us to an appointed city of refuge where we will blossom and flourish. As it is written, Moreover, I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime (2 Samuel 7:10).
    • We Have A Pastor Appointed Over Our Lives Under Whose Ministry We Flourish: We do not choose our parents, God does. In the same vein, He appoints pastors over our lives. The Bible says, And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding… (Jeremiah 3:15-16). Thus, when we connect with our God-appointed pastors, we supernaturally flourish (Isaiah 30:20-21).
    • We Also Have A Prophet Sent to Us Both for Divine Intervention and Rescue in The Hour of Need: As it is written, But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions (Obadiah 1: 17).

In summary, it is not enough to belong to a place, it is important to abide there (1 Corinthians 7:20). Also, it is one thing to be present in a place and yet another to be connected (Isaiah 29:13). Furthermore, we must walk in obedience to the instructions given because they are the platforms for our lifting (1 Samuel 15:22). Everybody belongs somewhere and supernaturally flourishes there. However, to experience supernatural breakthroughs, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • Our online worship experiences, by families

Our online worship experiences, by families

Different countries of the world seem to have found various ways of tackling the coronavirus and are beginning to ease the lockdown. As life gradually returns to normal, Christians who have been attending church services online look forward to their first Sunday in the physical church. Dorcas Egede reports

AS the lockdown occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic eases in many countries of the world and global economy and social life begin to pick up, Christians in Nigeria and abroad are already looking forward to congregating once again. But how has their online worship experience been?

Paul Adeniyi Ajayi, who worships with The Redeemed Christian Church of God in Canada says it hasn’t been easy adapting to services online, “especially for people who most of their lives have always gone to church, not only on Sundays, but as many as three to four times a week. I think it takes discipline to transition into that mood. And when I say discipline, I mean to be able to handle the online service as you would have done the physical gathering in church.”

Ajayi admits that the many distractions people have to deal with, makes online worship a rather tough call. “I’m sure we all know that there are distractions when you’re home. Your bed is there, your dining table, fridge and other family members that you would easily reach out to, something that would ordinarily not happen if you were in church.”

Asked how he deals with these distractions, Ajayi said, “Having the mindset that you’re going to have fellowship with God, even though it’s in your home, makes a difference. Again, one way I conditioned my body for online worship is to dress up for it. I work from home, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I have to be in my pajamas all day. So, I awake and prepare like I’m going to the office. When we wake up, prepare and dress up like we’re going to church, it helps condition our mind for that event.

“I would say the advantage is in the fact that you save the time you would have used in commuting to church. For me, I have to be in church at 8am on Sundays; so I have to wake up at 5:30 to get my family ready, but worshipping from home gives me an extra hour of sleep.”

Even though Ajayi thinks online worship is good, he admits that he prefers congregating in the physical church. “I actually prefer, if I can, to be physically present than to do it online. The online has its own place, but the difference is clear.”

On why he thinks the physical gathering is better, Ajayi said, “Possibly because we have been used to this method of worship. In the physical gathering, there are fewer distractions compared to worshipping from home. No matter the duration of the service, you’ll get the best more in church than when you connect online. Besides, worshipping online lacks that physical touch congregating affords you.”

Describing the online service pattern, Ajayi said, “The service is streamed from a central location and we connect from our homes. The doors to my church are always open, because here in Canada we are allowed to have up to 10 people in church. So, we drew up a roaster. When I am not in church and worshipping from home, the service is compartmentalised the way we would normally do it in church. There’s opening prayer, praise and worship, testimony, the word and offering after the word, then the benediction.

Is Ajayi looking forward to the first Sunday service after the pandemic? “I am sincerely looking forward to when all of this will be over, but my school of thought is that the online service should remain an option. Some churches hold a lot of conferences and retreats; sometimes the atmosphere to attend might not be so convenient, but if we have an online option, we can just connect from wherever we are. I’m hoping it will remain an option, so we have a mixture of both, such that if it’s impossible for you to be in the physical church, you can connect in the spirit and online as well.”

For Omotunde Olatunji, a member of Deeper Life Bible Church, Lagos, “The experience has been nice. Since it is new, we devise a way of making it as interesting as possible. The only difference is that it’s not as regimented as the regular service, where we have to sit in a particular way. We have a kind of liberty or freedom to make the service as flexible as possible, not too hectic as the regular service.”

Asked what ways he makes the online service less hectic, Olatunji said, “I make the children active in the choir. They prepare a song before the service. Sometimes, they write their own songs, which makes them develop their gift in that area. Also, we allow the children to handle some aspects of the service. We make the service very interactive.”

    Online worship service

Does he foresee online worship becoming the new norm post-covid? “I do not see that happening because there is strength in numbers. The more we gather, the more we sharpen one another. I believe that if the church is permitted, when the circumstances are right, coming together in worship is still best for us.”

“In our family, we try as much as possible to dress like we are going to church and start the same time we would start the normal service. It’s just that the service is a bit shorter. Once or twice, the children collected offering, but I just told them that this may not be too necessary at this time. Rather, what we do is that when we see people in need around us, we share the little we have with them.”

Asked what he misses most, he said, “As a preacher, I feel for the pastors that are preaching online, because sometimes you enjoy seeing the people you’re preaching to. You get feedback from them too. That touch of seeing the people you’re preaching to directly is more real than virtual.”

Olatunji has however learnt something from his online worship experience. “Personally, I have always believed that the church is the people, but now, I guess that has become clearer to more people. The basic thing I think I have learnt is that these days, you can be in your house and attend like two or three services of different denominations.”

Apostle Wesley Umukoro is the founding Bishop of Royal Champions Faith Embassy, Sapele, Delta State. To cope with the lockdown and manage to interface with his church members, he said, “We adopted the home cell method of worship, where members worshipped in homes closest to them in small numbers, to enable them observe social distancing and other safety measures. We also ensured that we posted gospel messages on our social media handles to keep people abreast of God’s word.”

Three weeks back, the lockdown was partially lifted in Delta State and the ban on worship centres was also lifted with certain rules, but Umukoro said, “Service was scanty. Though we had proposed to hold two services that day, we couldn’t. People were scared because of the limit that was placed by the government. But things are better now, we hold two services.”

Do you see yourself conducting services online after this whole lockdown experience? “Yes. Even after the lockdown, if I have the opportunity and members are well educated, we want to be online with them too. Besides, it’s also an avenue to reach out to others. I see this whole lockdown thing as having created an opportunity to reach out to more people online. I think it’s a good thing.”

“One thing I’ve learnt is that over the years, we’ve played religion and not Christianity. A lot of people are just churchy and a lot of pastors are centered on offering. If you take a close look at why some pastors are agitating for the reopening of churches, you will discover that it’s because of what they are getting from offering; they actually do not care about the flock.”

  • There is but one step between life and death

There is but one step between life and death

    Lamide Adenuga

There is but one step between life and death.

It is sad but the truth is that as human beings we have come to the point where we choose should I live or should I die? Should I take my life or should I let it be? The pressures of life at times brings us to our knees that we no longer see the way forward.

We no longer see light at the end of the tunnel but please my dear friend, no matter what has happened to you or is happening to you, no matter what the pressure is, no matter what you are going through or what is going through you, I ADVISE YOU ALWAYS CHOOSE LIFE.

We meet people everywhere, every day but we don’t know what’s going on in the minds of these folks. We don’t know who is on the brink of taking his/her life. The right words of encouragement will make such a person have a change of mind.

My favorite book says: “a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver”. Don’t let that pretty dress fool you. Don’t let the smile on that lady’s face fool you that she has it all together. Don’t let the confidence on that young man’s face fool you, dude may have a lot of pressure all bottled up inside, all the appearances may be nothing but a façade.

Suicide has always been from time immemorial but in recent times, it has become a disturbing trend. Almost every now and then we have repeated instances, it could be outright, it could be attempted but the statistics are really scary. It is not because life itself is scary but because someone somewhere chooses to give up on life. My dear friend, don’t give up on yourself, don’t throw in the towel, please I advise that you choose life.

A young and promising doctor jumped into the lagoon. A final year student decided to hang himself in his room. A young bank executive approved some loan and things went sour. He couldn’t take the pressure and took his life. A young lady was jilted and so decided to poison herself.

There are always many of such cases. Fine, the pressures are there, pressures are always on us in life but always have in mind that “when there is life, there is hope”.

Someone reading this piece is probably telling me to shut up. What does he even know? It’s not easy for me at all; he doesn’t know what I am going through. Don’t tell me, be strong, be a man, take it.  You don’t know what I am taking.

Sir, I still advise you choose life. There are people going through worse and they are still fighting. They are hoping and believing. See it as just a dark moment in your life; it will come to pass. If I can make it through the night, there is a brighter day.

And to folk having it really good at the moment, please accept my congratulations. Things are going well in your favour. Business is moving on really smooth. Your kitchen sink doesn’t stink and flowers grow right on the tiles of your living room. But when pressure comes, no one is immune. You only have to stay strong and positive at all times.

I once heard of a rich man who took a heavy loan to expand his business but things went against the run of play. The tides rose against the business and he suffered a shipwreck. He couldn’t take it anymore and decided to put a bullet in his brain. So no one is immune.

So please no matter what you face in life, I beg you to choose life. Even if you have lost a job, business, relationship or loved ones, don’t give up. Please don’t quit living.

You have the power to say THIS IS NOT HOW MY STORY WILL END. Don’t give up because of one bad chapter in your life. Keep going… Your story doesn’t end here.

  • Unlocking the supernatural through favour!

    Unlocking the supernatural through favour!

    David Oyedepo

WELCOME to June! I have no doubt that many of us must have had an encounter with the healing ministry of the Great Physician all through the month of May, 2020. My prayer is that your encounter will be for a life time and your healing shall be permanent, in Jesus name! This week, we shall focus on: Unlocking the Supernatural Through Favour!

From Scriptures, we discovered that we are in the latter days; the era of supernatural favour in the body of Christ. As a result, there shall be an unusual release of supernatural favour in the Church of Christ before Jesus returns (Psalm 102:13-15). Also, the Church will begin to possess the land and wherever the soles of our feet shall thread upon shall be given to us. It is written, We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them (Psalm 44:1-3; see also Haggai 2:3-9). Also, we understand that redemption is a product of favour. The Bible says, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). Grace, which also means favour, is the heritage of the redeemed and everyone that is born again is listed among God’s beloved (Ephesians 1:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21). ‘Beloved’ here connotes ‘to be favoured or to be a favourite’. That means every child of God is God’s favourite on the earth. Thus, we have our roots in divine favour by redemption (Psalm 5:12). As a result, everything about our lives attracts favour.

Furthermore, the ‘Church in the wilderness’ (the Israelites) was a highly favoured and struggle-free Church. The Bible records, This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us (Acts 7:38). During the 40-year sojourn of the Israelites in the wilderness, they experienced the tangibility of favour. They enjoyed Manna twice daily and the Bible says, Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years (Deuteronomy 8:4). Even with this, there is nothing in the Old Testament that can be compared to what is available to us in the New Testament. If the Church in the wilderness was that favoured, how much more shall the Church of the Living God, bought by the Blood of Jesus, be favoured. Concerning the Israelites, God said, And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty (Exodus 3:21; see also Exodus 12:36). God is committed to giving His people favour and we are privileged to be His people by redemption. Hence, we are entitled to divine favour. Also, the Church in the upper room enjoyed favour (Acts 2:47). Favour was the identity of the first Church and that means the Church of Christ is ordained to swim in favour. Furthermore, Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, was robed with favour. The Bible says, And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52). Jesus said, As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world (John 17:18). Thus, we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus. That means whatever pertains to Christ pertains to us in redemption (Romans 8:17).

What is in Favour That Unlocks the Supernatural?

    • Favour Terminates Tears: Favour turns our tears into testimonies. It is written, For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled (Psalm 30:5-7). For instance, favour terminated the tears and grief of Ruth and placed her supernaturally in the lineage of Jesus Christ forever! Thus, the favour in a man’s life is what defines the quality of his life.
    • Favour is the Cure for Man’s Struggles: The brothers of Joseph sentenced him to a life of servitude and struggles but favour located him supernaturally from one level to another (Psalm 105:17-22). Thus, it is impossible to secure favour with God and not have favour with men.
    • Supernatural Enlargement: Grace is the covenant mother of greatness. It is grace that makes great, not skill or strength. Every giant in the Kingdom is made of favour. No one can be greater than the grace of God at work in his/her life and grace simply means divine favour. Apostle Paul said, But by the grace of God I am what I am… (1 Corinthians 15:10). It simply means that without grace, we are grounded. However, by the release of divine favour, greatness surges and enlargement is steered up (Isaiah 60:1-22).

In conclusion, apart from the favour of salvation, every other favour we desire is at a cost. It is important to understand that God’s favour is real, but it is not free. This is because even the favour of salvation still demands that we repent so we can be saved and then receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. That means, there is what we must do to trigger favour. It is important to understand that favour is not a religious theory; it is a virtue with proofs. New birth is the first covenant step into a world of favour. Thereafter, we are listed among God’s beloved after the order of Joseph (Psalm 5:12).
