  • Life after death

In LUKE 16:19 says: “There was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.” In verses 22-23, Jesus says the rich man died and was buried. And in hell, the rich man lifted up his eyes, being in torments. While in torments of hell, he remembered his five brothers and prayed that Abraham, who was in Paradise with Lazarus, should send Lazarus to his father’s house that he might witness to them so that they also would not come into hell. Abraham made the rich man to know that, it was an impossible thing to do.

In Luke 16:26: Abraham told the rich man, who found himself  in hell that between Paradise and hell, there is a great gulf fixed, hence the souls of those in hell cannot cross over into Paradise and vice versa.

This word of truth, spoken by Abraham, is also a contradiction of Purgatory, which is the doctrine of Satan. Hebrews 9:27 states it was appointed unto the rich man once to die and after this the judgment of hell.

And it was also appointed unto poor Lazarus, once to die and after death he was carried by the angels of God into Abraham’s bosom.  The soul of Lazarus is already in perfect peace in heaven, while the soul of the rich man is troubled because of the torment of hell.

The prayer of any clergyman will never change the destination of the soul of man after death. Neither can it make any soul, cross over from hell to heaven, or vice-versa. Hell was originally prepared for the devil and his fallen angels as written in Matthew 25:41.

But it has enlarged itself to accommodate the wicked and those nations who forget God as Psalms 9:17 states. Amongst the people of God are found many wicked men, amongst whom are also found workers of iniquity. They will say to the Lord, in that day, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name, have we not cast out devils, and in thy name, have we not done many wonderful works? (Jeremiah 5:26; Matthew 7:22)

The souls of these workers of iniquity, even if they are men of God, will not rest in perfect peace after death because they have been resisting the Holy Ghost by not obeying the doctrines of Christ, especially the doctrine of separation.

Jesus said in Luke 6:46 “AND WHY CALL ME, LORD, LORD, AND DO NOT THE THINGS WHICH I SAY?” And the most important thing amongst all other things that Jesus is saying to the people of God is that they should NOT love the world and the things that are in the world because He has chosen them out of the world as 1 JOHN 2:15-16 and JOHN 17:16 state.

Death comes like a thief in the night. Therefore repent NOW, before it is too late.

  • Unveiling the degrees of faith!

Welcome to another exciting week. I hope you were blessed by the teaching of last week. This week, we shall focus on: Unveiling the Degrees of Faith!

From scriptures, we discover that faith is in degrees. We may wonder why some people’s faith produces and others don’t. The reason is because Bible faith is in degrees! In Matthew 14, Jesus was walking on the sea towards His disciples, who had earlier left in a boat. Peter saw Him and said, ‘Lord if it be Thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.’ Jesus said, ‘Come’ and Peter began walking towards Jesus on water. But when he saw the boisterous wind, he was afraid and began to sink. Then, he cried, ‘Lord, save me.’ Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said, ‘O thou of little faith, wherefore, didst thou doubt?’ (Matthew 14:27-31). The dimension of faith required to keep walking on water was not in Peter; so he began to sink. We must understand that our level of insight determines the degree of faith we operate in.

What Then, are the Degrees of Faith?

    • Little Faith: This degree of faith cannot confront challenges. That’s why we have to accept the responsibility of building our faith. Little faith is susceptible to doubt, when confronted by great challenges. The Bible says in the last days perilous times shall come. That is, the world will be confronted by the worst of challenges. That also goes to explain why Jesus said: I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth (Luke 18:8). The challenges will be so enormous that only those who have paid attention to developing this vital aspect of life will be found standing. As it is written: If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small (Proverbs 24:10). Thus, little insight is the reason for little faith because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
    • Great Faith: Great faith will always have it the way it wants it. Jesus gave us an introduction to great faith in Matthew 15. Responding to the Canaanite woman’s insistence on getting even the crumbs in her request for deliverance for her demon-possessed daughter, Jesus said: Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour (Matthew 15:28). Also, we read of great faith in Matthew 8, where a centurion came to Jesus, seeking healing for his servant. The Bible records: And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel (Matthew 8:7-10). It will always deliver great victories, command signs and put us in command. Great faith is a degree of faith we operate in when we become addicted to discoveries in the Word. We become unshakeable in any challenge of life. Great faith is taking deep root in the Word of God.
    • The Spirit of Faith: The God-kind of faith is when we begin to operate by the Spirit of faith. As it is written: We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13). When we operate by the Spirit of faith, we begin to command the faithfulness of God at will. At this level, we begin to speak things naturally; we are not confessing them but simply proclaiming them. For instance, Joshua and Caleb operated by this spirit. When the other ten spies began to give the people evil report, they shut them up. The Bible records: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it (Numbers 14:24). The Spirit of faith is a reactionary force that can’t stand anything contrary to it. In the Spirit of faith realm, we operate in the violent dimension of faith where we look at challenges and deal with them as if they do not exist. Thus, the Spirit of faith is a speaking faith.

In conclusion, faith is a growing force. The Bible says: We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth(2 Thessalonians 1:3). Thus, faith has its source and strength for growth in the Word of God. In other words, our labour in the Word of God is our access to growing in faith. However, new birth is a fundamental requirement to operate in the realm of the Spirit of faith. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! For further reading, please get my books: Unlimited Power of Faith, Understanding the Power of Faith, Exploits of Faith and Born to Win! • C&S not a bread and butter church, says Prophet Alao

The Supreme Head of Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria Prophet Solomon Alao has dismissed insinuations that the church is not growing like their new generation counterparts.

He stated there is a difference between church of the world and church of God, saying people should not compare the incomparable.

Alao also dispelled the notion that the church does not support members like their new generation counterparts.

While noting the primary duty of a true clergyman is to heal and save souls, Alao stated: “C&S should not be seen as a bread and butter church even though we try our best. There is difference between us and other church.

“For instance, if you donate N40 million to my church, I will investigate before I accept it but some other churches do not really care. So, we believe we are to influence behavioral standard.

“If a member is in need, we always try our best. Recently, during our youth programme, the church gave out N1million for ten young entrepreneurs to start their business.”

They clergyman, who recently turned 80, also cited that there are three types of priest. According to him, they include those called by God, those called by flesh and many called because of their stomach.

On how he became a cleric, he said: “I never knew I will become a priest. In fact, I was an anti-priest especially the white garment churches.

“Then, my dream was just to be a businessman but God called me and I answered. And believe me; if God calls you, you have nothing to fear.”

He urged Nigerians to do away with tribalism for the nation to become great again.

He urged the President Muhammodu Buhari to prioritise the combat against corruption following his re-election.

The cleric said: “Corruption is item number one the President has to fight, because that is why Nigerians voted for him for a second term. They have confidence in Buhari that he would do more in fighting corruption.

“He also has the chance to fix the power sector. If the power sector is fixed, the economy will be good.

“Having done that, I believe if he signs the constitution amendment bills, Nigeria will be great again.”

  • ‘Christians should stop criticising Osinbajo’

Sword of the Spirit Ministries, operators of Christ Life Church recently marked its 30th anniversary. Founder of the church, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, spoke on the journey since inception especially, the good and the ugly moments as well as on some national issues as it relates to the church, Christianity among others. Yinka Adeniran was there. Excerpts:

THIRTY years after the church took off, how has the journey been?

The journey has been wonderful. Really, the Lord has been gracious. I started out as an itinerant evangelist, going across all the nations to hold interdenominational crusades. We had held stadium revival in virtually all the state capitals, except Adamawa.

But after 14 years of gospel crusade, the Lord instructed us to start a church. He had spoken to me earlier in 1984 that we were going to start a church in Ibadan and that the church would go global but that He would tell me when the time arrives.

Then, friends and Christian leaders began to speak to me. Bishop David Oyedepo spoke to me about setting up a church and I said no. Pastor E.A. Adeboye spoke to me about it and I told him that I would start when God asks me to.

Archbishop Benson Idahosa came to our convention in 1988 and announced that we were going to start a church but I said no. This was because in doing the work of the Kingdom, as an Apostle, you don’t base your work on the words of men, you listen to what the Lord says.

Because if you meet with challenges, men cannot help you solve the challenges. But if it is God, you have nothing to fear. So on the 8th of February, 1989 while in Lagos, the Lord told me it was time for the church. So when I got back to Ibadan, I told the fellowship we were starting a church.

On the 12th of February, 1989, Christ Life Church took off. Within the first year of the church, we were over a thousand. We bought the portion of this garden in 1990. So it was rapid. The journey has been amazing, not without its challenges though.

There were stories about angelic visit in the journey so far

Yes, I have experienced angelic visitations. My first experience was in 1980 in Port-Harcourt and it has to do with the person I was going to marry. I was about making a wrong choice and the angel of the Lord appeared to me to stop me. The second time I had an angelic visitation was when I was in the midst of a spiritual crisis. So I decided to fast without stopping.

When the fast reached 178 days, I was praying in my house in the night and just about 3:30 am, I heard a male voice singing at the gate of my house. When I kept quiet, he called me by my name (the name by which only my mother calls me) and spoke words of comfort and assurance to me. Right there and then, I began to praise God.

The third angelic visitation was about this land. Because of the numerical growth of the church, we went searching for land everywhere. So one day, my secretary came in to tell me about an elderly man who wanted to meet me. The man came in white Babariga looking fresh.

I welcomed him and offered him a seat, which he refused. He said: “I learnt you are looking for land, have you considered Olaogun’s hatchery? They’ve broken it into plots and they want to sell. It is along Old Ife Road. Go check it. It may be good for you.”

I appreciated him and asked for his name, but he smiled and said, “I’ll see you.” I didn’t guess anything. I thought he was one of the estate agents. I asked for his card so we could talk subsequently, he smiled again and said, “I’ll still see you.”

I wanted to offer him a gift, he rejected it and said, “I’ll see you again.” And then he disappeared. The information he gave us that day led us to this place. I’ve had another one too after that. I’m not going to tell you that one.

Could you reflect on your challenges when you were about starting and on how you have been able to maintain success?

We didn’t have any problem about starting because it is not Francis Wale Oke’s church, it is the church of Christ. He leads us as we follow Him. And every step has been interesting. We have been working with God as He reveals His plans to us day by day. We are not in competition with our friends.

They are where they are because that’s how God has led them. We are where we are because that is how God has led us. Our eyes are set on God because He never misses the way, in fact, He is the way.

Behind every glory, there are stories. We’ve had challenges, but by and large, the real challenge is the challenge of men, people. Jesus himself warned us to beware of men. Jesus did not commit Himself to people because he knew what was in them. You would raise people and expend your emotion on them, yet they would turn to stab you on the back.

The challenge of men you fed, who turned out to be Judas Iscariot. If you take that away, there is no challenge. The whole book of Jonah captures this well. The storm, fish, grass and things obeyed God but when God spoke to man, the man went the other way.

How have you managed to move on despite the challenges of men?

We take our time to pray. The hearts of men are in the hands of God. Again, we use the word of God. The word of God has the capacity to change, shape and convict the heart of men. We teach the word. Then, we work in patience. When you work with people, you have to be patient to deal with people.

Would you like to reflect on some of the good moments you have had?

So many, but I will tell you one. On the 8th of March this year, I sat in the Sanctuary to watch the matriculation ceremony of the pioneer students of Precious Cornerstone University and I was moved to tears. As I sat there, I made a play back in my mind to 12 years on the memory lane.

We made the declaration for our vision for the university on November 11, 2006 and for the next 12 years, it was battle. The operational licence was not forthcoming and we remained resolute not to start the university until the licence was released.

We were not ready to do anything illegal. Our licence was issued by the federal government on December 19, 2017. And in March 8, 2019, I saw the students matriculating. They were from 21 states of the federation and the federal capital territory. Someone said our school is truly a federal university and I give glory to God for that. It’s a moment of joy.

How have you been able to combine the home front with the ministry?

To succeed in ministry, one must understand God’s priority. In God’s priority, God comes first. Your health comes next and your family before your ministry. Failure looms when the order is violated. God taught me the priority of a minister’s life and I’ve maintained my focus.

Some said you are a workaholic?

Well, nobody can succeed in ministry without being a workaholic. But then, we work like God and not like a fool. In Genesis 1, God works very hard. He prepares His work in the evening and completes it in the day. That is why you would read, “And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

So God’s day starts the previous night and that is a serious strategy for success. Plan your day the previous night; get up in the day and implement it. But then, on the seventh day, He withdrew from all the works and rested. For me, I do prayer-work to relax. I come back sweating, relaxed and refreshed.

What has God told you about Nigeria?

There is a great future for Nigeria. Nigeria will not break. By the way, I’ve carried Nigeria as a burden in my heart since I became prophetically conscious in 1976. As a prophet, I intercede. I do not go to the pages of newspaper to predict what would happen.

Nigeria is going through the stage of becoming a prosperous and great nation. The problem of Boko Haram, insurgency and uprisings will pass away. God will raise leaders who will be able to unite Nigeria for us. Meanwhile, our leaders are trying but they are not there yet.

We need their irrevocable integrity and commitment now more than before. We need them to throw up a new crop of leaders who are 21st century compliant and current with the on-goings in the world technologically and economically. The set of leaders who can take Nigeria from being a consumer nation to a producer nation and from being an importing nation to an exporting nation. The only two things I think Nigeria is exporting today are people and faith.

Being a dirty game, should Christians engage in politics?

Politics is a very dirty game and that is why Christians must go there to clean it up. It is a systemic rot which cannot be cleaned up in just four years. Let genuine Christians who have been discipled go into politics to clean it up.

The National Assembly is planning to constitute its leadership and CAN have been agitating that Christians be taken into cognizance.

Yes, CAN is doing that because Christians have been marginalised in many ways and CAN must be sure that there is fairness and equity. CAN is not asking that all the slots in the leadership be given to Christians, they are just demanding that there should be a balance.

Whether you believe it or not, religion has become a major factor in our national politics. It will be wrong for CAN to keep quiet now. Their stand is correct. They have my backing for staging that course. Otherwise, you just wake up and discover that there is no Christian in the leadership of the national assembly. The church should have a voice there.

Some people alleged VP Osinbajo is not representing the interest of Christians well. As a leader, how do you view that?

The point is it is easy to criticise. A lot of people don’t know the role that man is playing there. He is the ‘sole light’ in the midst of darkness in Aso Villa and he is doing his best. On a personal level, he’s been there for four years without any scandal. He has carried himself with poise and dignity. His grasp of national issues, the analysis, the confidence with which he speaks, oh come on!

Church, wake up and celebrate your hero and champion. On the two occasions on which he has acted as President, everybody knew everything was different. What else do you want him to do? He is not the President. There is a limit to the role of the vice president.

He and the president are close because the President has found him trustworthy. We’ve had issues in this nation before where governor and deputy governor would be at each other’s throat. It was the same with the President and Vice President such that rather than getting busy with the administration of the country, they would be creating distraction. We don’t have that now. The man just wants to serve the nation. I give him kudos.

  • Cleric task Christian women on work-life balance

The founder of Women Relief Talk Pastor Funmi Adetoyese-Olagunju has charged Christian women to make frantic efforts to balance their work and family life.

This, she said, remains the panacea towards building a God centred home.

She spoke at the balanced and fulfilled life conference at PRAISE ARENA, VGC Lekki Lagos, which attracted singles and married women from across Lagos featured discussions, counseling and prayer.

According to her, the increasing cost of living has made its imperative for women to work but the task of building a strong, loving, caring and God centred family is a one that must not be traded for any monetary or other personal gain.

She said: “Women are wired to build and make people around them happy.

“Women are strong with ability to attend to details. Women may not be strong physicality but they are stronger inside with great wisdom”.

She wondered what a woman will gain if she has a great husband, wonderful children but live a miserable life.

“One of the biggest secrets in life that many do not know is that much of your inner wellness and satisfaction comes from your lifestyles. Most of women desire to live a well-balanced life.

“We strongly believe that more than 80 percent of challenges and problems in homes or marriages would have been prevented with the right counsel.

“We can share best practices and lessons learnt from real life experiences to counsel married women and young ladies on how to have successful marriage and raise godly children,” she stated.

She noted that it is important to realise a woman’s life exists on two planes: horizontal and vertical..

She cited issues of trust, financial problems, insecurity, low self-esteem, bad communication, sexual intimacy and infidelity as impediments to balanced and fulfilled life of a woman.

“Building trust, accountability, and honesty especially in the area of finance is key as well as loving oneself because you can’t love anyone around you if you don’t love yourself.

“Exploring ways to always satisfy your husband, positioning yourself in a position where people can trust you, including your husband is key to make your home livable and provide an opportunity to fulfill God’s purpose for your lives,

“Sisters, let the giant in you arise and take charge of what belongs to you. When I say arise, I don’t mean start proving points by making noise but through humility and submission, you will not only win the battle, you will also win the war.

“If you realize the power of a woman, you will not sit down in self-pity and be expecting someone to sit down with you and be consoling you, instead get directions, seek counsel, above all pray for grace,” Adetoyes counselled.

Urging women to be strong in the Lord, she said: “When you release yourself into God’s hands, your power and your strength will be drawn from above and you will be able to do what you think you cannot do, you will be able to endure what you think you can never tolerate.”

  • Olumakaiye to Sanwo-Olu: remember the downtrodden

Diocesan Bishop of Lagos Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Rt. Revd Humphrey Olumakaiye has advised Lagos Governor-elect Babajide Sanwo-Olu to tackle unfavourable economic situation impacting heavily on the downtrodden.

He asked Sanwo-Olu to alleviate their sufferings to earn the favour of men and God.

Olumakaiye the charge at the thanksgiving service for the governor-elect and his wife, Ibijoke at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Okepopo, Lagos.

Also at the service were immediate Bishop of Lagos and Dean, Church of Nigeria Emeritus Most Revd. Adebola Ademowo, Deputy-governor, elect, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and his wife, Oluremi.

He also advised the governor- elect to tackle traffic congestion situation, which he described as annoying and disturbing with its negative impact on the economy.

While assuring Sanwo-Olu of the church’s continued prayer and support for the incoming administration, he urged him to serve the people of Lagos State diligently, selflessly and with total dedication.

This, he said, would also make the people to follow and honour him.

“During his campaign, he came for prayers and today, he has come to give thanks to God that saw him through the period of elections and my counsel to him is that he should not forget the good Lord Who made it possible.

“I have known him to be a committed child of God in God’s vineyard and this virtue must have led to his being given this opportunity by God to lead his people in the State and my counsel is that he should serve the people with integrity of heart, carry the party members along in all his programmes as a tree cannot make a forest and to know the fact that good leadership commands absolute followership.”

Olumakaiye told Sannwo-Olu to respect everyone under his leadership and not to forget those that helped him to get to power.

To be successful, the cleric said the governor-elect must do the right things, moment by moment, day by day and distance himself politicians after self- interests.

Olumakaiye charged Sanwo-Olu to be strong and courageous, obey all the laws of God, respect the Word of God by reading it and make it his guide as well as cultivating a life of praying.

The governor-elect coveted prayers of Christians in the state for the incoming administration, saying he knows that to whom much is given, much is expected.
