  • Women group prays for Lagos at 50

The United Aladura Churches Women Wing has organised a prayer session to appreciate God’s kindness, goodness and mercy for Lagos State.

The session was also to pray for the continuous progress of the State, which clocks 50.

Coordinator of the programme, Mother Captain Yetunde Osho, said God has been faithful to the state of excellence since its creation.

“It’s time to thank Him and even pray for Him to do more,” she began.

“There is nothing like prayers. Our people need to know that its only prayers that can move this State forward and this is what we have come to do. We have come to seek His face”.

Another member of the coordinating team, Venerable Josephine Phillips, said the group had been organising prayer sessions for the State long ago

“Long before now, we have been praying for the State as prescribed by the Scriptures.

“Before the election two years ago, we asked God to give us a good leader and He gave us one in Governor Ambode.

“It’s true we have been experiencing peace in Lagos but we need to continually pray for peace for more of God’s grace,” She stated.

The United Aladura Churches comprises of four churches: Church of The Lord, Cherubim and Seraphim, The Independence and Celestial Church of Christ.

Former Governor, Lateef Jakande, who attended the prayer hailed the women for their commitment to the State.

He assured Lagos will continue to move forward with women like them as intercessors.

  • Cleric blames parents for same -sex orientation

He near absence of love, togetherness, patience and fellowship in homes are responsible for the rising cases of same sex marriage among youths, the senior pastor of Praise Arena, Pastor Jummy Olagunju, has stated.

He spoke with our correspondent after the maiden edition of the Praise Arena Couples’ Dinner at Le-Real Hotel, Victoria Garden City (VGC) Lagos.

Tagged greater joy, the dinner attracted church leaders, traditional rulers, academics and government functionaries.

The guests, who came in with impressive attires, were greeted with music, food, comedy, bible teachings and prophetic prayers.

Olagunju said research has shown unresolved crises among couples allow same- sex marriage ideas gain popular acceptance among youths.

He said that Nigeria is not immune from the development youths joining the bandwagon.

He blamed parents for the rising cases of same sex marriage because their negative actions lead children to some form of social deviance or the other.

He argued children in homes filled love, patience, mutual understanding and patience will look forward to building similar castles on godly values.

He faulted the notion that globalisation is responsible for same sex orientation in contemporary world.

The anomaly, he said, has been existed for long, stating “a dysfunctional home will always breed dysfunctional children”.

Legislations, according to him, cannot stop same sex because “we have laws against robbery but the practice of stealing has not stopped.

“It is not about strict penalty. The root cause of the problem is the near existence of the right family values’’.

  • Group targets 20 million converts on May 27

Arrangements have been concluded for Global Outreach Day in Nigeria on May 27.

The National Coordinator of the group, Evangelist Oguazi Onyemobi, stated this at an interaction with reporters in Lagos.

He said that Nigerians will experience dramatic changes if Christians spread the gospel of Jesus within their immediate communities.

Onyemobi noted that the Global Outreach Day is a worldwide initiative that has taken root in over 150 nations.

“The vision of GOD is to raise the entire believers in Jesus Christ as a massive army to preach the gospel in one day and adopt soul wining as a lifestyle,” he stated.

Continuing, he said: “Global outreach is an end time response to that Commission and a catalyst to mobilise the whole church for evangelism for many Christians.”

He added that the focus of this year’s GOD is Africa with the vision to reach 50 million souls from Cape Town to Cairo in one day.

“In Nigeria, our target is to reach 20 million souls with the love of Jesus Christ.

“In our world when many are spreading messages of hate, killings, destruction and deception in the name of God, God is raising the greatest army of believers to stand as one to preach the good news of God’s love,” Onyemobi shared.

He encouraged Christians to share the gospel and adopt diverse soul winning strategies such as one- on- one, meetings in the church, visiting the needy, hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, children’s homes, use of concerts, open air crusades, banners, sharing of tracts, posts on social media and others on May 27.

  • Why T.B Joshua must not relocate, by Fasheun

Why T.B Joshua must not relocate, by Fasheun

Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) Dr. Frederick Fasehun has called on Nigerians to prevail on the government to make sure founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Ikotun, Prophet Temitope Joshua, does not relocate from the country.

Reacting to the announcement by Joshua that he was relocating to Israel where he has been provided with land, building and facilities, Fasehun told reporters on Thursday in Lagos that all well-meaning Nigerians must intervene to change the relocation plan.

He said the relocation of the preacher would be one brain-drain too many, arguing it will be a national embarrassment for him to embark on self-exile.

He said Nigerians must do everything possible to ensure the popular televangelist rescinds the decision and remain at home to for his ministerial assignments.

Fashehun pointed out the church has turned Ikotun, a suburban part of Lagos to a Mecca of sort for local and foreign dignitaries since its establishment some 30 years ago.

He said: ‘’Thanks to Pastor Joshua, Ikotun has become a verifiable tourism hotspot for local and foreign worshipers, who flock the synagogue for verifiable healing, deliverance, miracles and prosperity.

“Nigeria stands to lose positive dividends currently bestowed by SCOAN on not just Ikotun Lagos but also on the entire country,’’ he said.

Spiritually speaking Fashehun stressed Nigeria will be losing a giant intercessor whose prayer and those of other men and women of God across all religions are helping to sustain the peace and sanity of the nation.

He lamented the planned SCOAN’s relocation amounts to losing the country’s reputedly biggest tourist attraction, the most visited destination point by religious tourists in West Africa.

He cited the report by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), which acknowledges the church hosts six of every 10 foreigners.

‘’We shall be losing the economic benefits and potentials or religious tourism, a sector in which SCOAN commands about 2 million local and international tourists annually,’’ he said.

He added: ‘’The airlines shall be losing customers coming to Lagos and several African, European, and Asian countries as well as the American and Australia.

“Local business and hotelier directly established to service patrons of this ministry will close shop.”

Nigeria, according to Fasheun, will also lose Joshua and SCOAN’s donations, charities and philanthropies worthy not less than N8billion in scholarships, disasters reliefs, house rent support, sports and sportsmen sponsorship and others.

Stating he is never a member of SCOAN, Fasheun said: ‘’I am an Anglican. I’m only speaking for him because I am an human right activist and I make case for anyone whose right and privileges are violated.”

He appreciated the pleas of Minister of Information Lai Mohammed on the prophet not to leave, the politician said government must immediately stop his ongoing judicial persecution.

He added that the government must not act like the envious ancient Jews did to Jesus.

“Government must ensure that this prophet received honour home not just abroad,” he appealed.

  • Adeboye to FG: tell us plans on recovered loots

Adeboye to FG: tell us plans on recovered loots

Nigerians deserve to know how government plans to spend the recovered loots to enhance probity and transparency in governance.

This was the submission of general overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

He spoke last Sunday at the special prayer and thanksgiving for officials of public and private sector with their families at the National Headquarters of RCCG, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos

He said that the amount of looted funds recovered by the current government is huge and a sign of moral degeneration across the country.

Adeboye insisted Nigerians deserve know how the recovered loots will be utilised as well as how much has been recovered.

He suggested the $43million recovered from Osborne Towers flat can be used to renovate all airports while the $9milion recovered from residence of the former Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) Andrew Yakubu can repair all roads across the country.

Citing a recent request by some companies in Malaysia for repair of roads in the country, Adeboye argued “the budget presented by the company for the construction is less than the money recovered by the former NNPC boss.”

He pointed out poverty mentality and acts of wickedness are responsible for the wide spate of corruption, saying it can be tackled through nationwide campaign on good moral values.

The respected cleric said: “My father told me when I was a child that I should not destroy the family’s name with my action and I also tell my children the same things. So we can be careful and live in consonance with the scriptures.”

Adeboye, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, emphasised the needs for urgent resuscitation of moral standards, lamenting Nigerians play higher premium on money than productivity and value.

“We need all stakeholders to team up together to keep drumming the support for the return of our moral standard for us to have a more humane society.

“Let us bring back the songs, rhythms and poems that talk about good moral lifestyle and celebrate people with high moral integrity for others to learn,” he stressed.

He described the media trial of anti-corruption agencies as unnecessary, warning it could smear the names of innocent people.

“The anti- corruption agencies should be properly funded and empowered so that they can do thorough investigation on alleged corrupt cases rather than swim up unhealthy public sentiments in name of fighting corruption,” he advised.

  • ‘How I became a contractor from being a gardener’

‘How I became a contractor from being a gardener’

Primate of The Saviours Ministries C&S Worldwide, Dr Solomon Aluko, speaks with Sunday Oguntola on the spectacular turnarounds of his life and ministry. Excerpts:

Early life as a taxi driver

I give thanks to God because I never imagined I would serve Him. I am surprised He could find me useful in His vineyard. Where I am today is just by His grace alone. I came to Lagos in 1960 with a cocoa trailer from Ilesha.

I knew people in Ibadan but I said I would prefer to stay in Lagos. I remember the Independence celebration at Lagos Island. I returned to Lagos and joined the taxi drivers’ union when I came back. Our park was in one Mobil station in Yaba.

Gradually, I became the treasurer of the union and then vice president of the union. I was active and the president was very close to me. One day, they wanted to send delegates to Cairo for a conference.

I remember Kunle Oyero, a lawyer, Muabi Goodluck, a politician and Uche from the east were union leaders. So, they wanted to send people to Cairo. Only eight of us had international passports in the union. Unfortunately, mine had expired.

But Muabi Goodluck said he would renew it for me. They did and I believe it was the grace of God. They added my name to the list from across the nation. People were picked from Ibadan, Kaduna, east, Ilorin, Kano and everywhere.

They said there would be elections but without going to those places to campaign, I won. Finally, they picked me and got a ticket for me. I never believed in God. I was a drunkard and didn’t believe in prophecy or anything.

    Connection to destiny helper

Well, we got to Cairo and realised it was a big conference. Inoculation was done from here back then but there was someone from the Ministry of Works, who didn’t do it here. So, they detained him at the Cairo airport and didn’t allow him in.

I collected the keys to his hotel room. I cooked for him and gave him the meal. He was happy. He was from Kwara state. After seven days, they allowed him in after doing the inoculation at the airport.

He was so elated by my caring attitude and just kept looking at me. The day we were leaving, he told me he was working in Dodan Barracks with former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon. He gave me his card to see him on arrival.

Becoming a gardener at Dodan Barracks

I risked it and went as he requested. There were many people at the gate that day but finally I scaled the hurdles. When he saw me, he literally hugged me from the grounds. He told everyone how I took care of him at Cairo.

He said he would help me and asked me to come on the next Thursday. When we met, he said I wouldn’t be able to do the work available but I said I would.

He said only two gardeners were in the entire Barracks and the Head of State was always complaining the flowers were not well watered. He asked if I could work as a gardener and I said yes. There and then, I got a job.

I was living in Mushin but will resume by 6am to water the flowers. Very soon, Gowon and his wife, Victoria started noticing me. They will just nod and move on after my greetings. The wife jocularly called me contractor for no reason at all. I would simply smile, take a bow and work on.

    From gardener to government contractor

One day, they were sitting at the garden when the Head of State said, “Madam, calls you a contractor, are you a good contractor?” I just said ‘yes sir’. He asked if I could build dormitories for soldiers and I asked in the affirmative. I didn’t know where the confidence came from.

Long and short, he awarded me the contract to build the new dormitory for soldiers in Dodan Barracks. This was despite the fact that I had never handled any contract in my life. When I saw him, he spoke highly of me based on how I took care of the flowers and gardens.

He linked me to the Federal Director of Works, S.A Ajayi. Ajayi was a powerful government official then. He wondered how I got to know Gowon and won his heart. The dormitory I built is still there in Dodan Barracks. He supervised the contract himself every evening. He would always come with his son, Bala.

I made sure I executed the contract on time and very well. When that finished, he was happy and asked if I can build White House for him. The White House I awarded is also still there. From being an ordinary gardener, I became a big-time government contractor without lobbying or kick-backs. We worked round the clock because the mobilization was 50 percent upfront.

I didn’t stop working as a gardener while the contracts were ongoing. I worked so hard Gowon was impressed and literally made me the leading government contractor. I must say he never got any kobo from me. It was simply God at work in my life.

    Life as a church man

When I gave birth to Bayo, my son, Christ The Saviour Church in Yaba came for the christening. The leader, Olufunsho Andrew, invited me to attend their services. That was how I became a member.

By then, I had a new 504 car and was a big man. The church was having an annual seven-day fast, which almost scared me off. The first time I fasted for seven days, I almost died. I became a committed church member. The first thing I did was to buy an organ for the church at a whopping N23, 000 then.

In 1977, I was told I could attend the pilgrimage. I was stunned but quickly paid tickets for myself, wife and two younger siblings. I saw the palace of Solomon in Jerusalem and the church he built for God.

That was how I told myself I must build church for God. I was almost 40 years then. I started building a church in Ilesha to mark my 40th birthday. I completed a beautiful edifice and invited King Sunny Ade to commission the church and mark my birthday. Despite my status, I was still working as a gardener and getting more contracts. I registered Solomon Niran and Sons Limited. The Army gave me a contract at Kanji. I built 27 Ranks and File barracks in Kanji.

    Passion to build for God

When I couldn’t cope again, I handed over the gardening job to those there before. I also got eight blocks for the College of Education at Okene too. I didn’t know anything about bricklaying, let alone construction.

When I came back, I heard there were selling lands in Ikeja, Alausa. I bought 10 plots where I built Wuraola House before Alade Market. I built another church in Agege.

I didn’t think I would ever leave Christ The Saviour Church. We were about to celebrate the 52nd anniversary and we didn’t have N52,000. I suggested we should change the church to United Christ The Saviour Church. That was how opposition started. They said I wanted to snatch the church from them. They argued they fasted and prayed to get the name.

    Becoming a church founder

When the issue became too strong, something just told me to build another church in Ikeja. I bought the parcel of land thrice. When they were demolishing Coker village, the leader of the gang, Almaroof, said he would not demolish Aluko’s church because I was a good man.

The church came to apologise that they just understood what I was saying. But it was too late. I had founded a new church. I gave them the one in Agege. We have about 14 branches across the world now. We started in 2000. We have our churches in America, UK and others.

Solomon Niran & Sons is still there but we hardly do much these days. I am fully committed to serving God. That is what matters to me now. God has been good to me and I owe Him a lot. The least I can do is to serve Him and humanity.

He bought me from nowhere to where I am today. I feel so grateful and indebted to Him. I will die serving Him because nothing I do is ever enough to reciprocate Him.

  • PLIN canvasses unity among leaders, Christians

A group, Pastors, Leaders Interceding Network (PLIN), has called on Church leaders and well-meaning Christians to close ranks.

Rather than be at one another’s throats, it urged the leaders to work for unity in the body of Christ.

This was the consensus at the end of a day ministers’ conference in Lagos last week.

The conference attracted hundreds of denominational leaders and workers from church groups.

Convener of PLIN, Apostle Dele Johnson, said Christians must  learn to watch the backs of themselves to survive the onslaught of the enemies.

He lamented that Christians fight themselves over doctrinal issues while allowing the enemies to have a free rein within and outside the church.

Johnson said Christians must complement themselves instead of being involved in unnecessary rivalry and competition.

According to him: “We do not need to envy each other at all. What you are designed to do I am not wired to do.

“We must celebrate the uniqueness in each other and not envy. This is God’s sovereign wisdom to keep us dependent on each other and thereby foster unity.”

He called on church leaders to put aside envy, pettiness, ego and unhealthy competition to collaborate for Kingdom’s expansion.

Rather than serve as moles, he said Christians should unite to fight the common enemies.

He also warned against celebrating the fall of generals, saying they should instead watch the backs of others.

Johnson, who is also the general overseer of Jesus Liberation Squad New Oko Oba Lagos, said Christians must stick together to work against the devil and attacks against the church.

General Overseer of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Mission (CLAM) Lagos, Apostle Wole Oladiyun, charged the ministers to be full of the Holy Spirit.

He said they cannot succeed in transforming lives and routing the devil without the backing and support of the Spirit.

  • Engaging the power of revelation for miracle jobs! (2)

Last week we concluded that revelation, which is referred to as, divine insight, is our bailout in these hard times. We examined the story of Hagar, the mother of Ishmael in Genesis 21:19 where God opened her spiritual eyes to see the well of water that saved her child from untimely death. Likewise, we have no business dying of thirst when there are wells of water around us. It is our responsibility to locate the wells and as God visits us with divine insight to see these amazing opportunities, we must make the most of them legitimately.

One of my sons, who graduated from Landmark University, lost his father while in school and thought the world had crashed on him. Notwithstanding, he engaged in a 3-day fast and read the book, Maximize Destiny, authored by me. Within three days, he caught a vision of fish farming and started the business. His income from that business was enough to pay his tuition fees and even award scholarships to his mates. The business was so prosperous that he began exporting his fish to Benin Republic; he also had four staff working for him. All that happened while he was a student! That young man saw a well of water in the midst of the desert. God has indeed provided work for each of his children; all we need is grace to see how to be profitably engaged at every point in time.

    • God is under obligation to provide for His household

The Bible says: But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel (1 Timothy 5:8). Whatever is taught in scriptures is the way God operates. That means God is committed to provide for people of his own household. However, God said in His Word that if any would not work, neither should he eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10). As we all know, our needs are met from what we profitably engage in. Thus, God is obligated to provide work that will meet His people’s needs. Engagement in Kingdom Stewardship: We can secure our exemption from joblessness as we commit to Kingdom advancement endeavours. It is written: Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:31-33).

The Bible also says: Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof. So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory (Psalms 102:13, 15).

Miracle jobs, amongst others, are added to us in grand style as we favour and promote God’s Kingdom tirelessly. Therefore, everyone who takes pleasure in the things of God is not permitted to be jobless or live under pressure because favour is their heritage. Therefore, let Jesus engage you and no employer/organisation will be able to reject you!

It is also written: The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing (Psalms 34:10). Therefore, we can never be stranded as we advance the Kingdom of God. Furthermore, we cannot be in partnership with God and not have value before men. The Psalmist said: I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread (Psalms 37:25; see also Isaiah 3:10).

From scriptures, we understand that every child of God is the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The word ‘righteous’ also means ‘redeemed’. Thus, Psalms 37 verse 25 can be read as, “I have never seen the redeemed forsaken nor his children begging bread.”

In conclusion, until we catch a revelation of our exemption, our struggles will continue. We must recognise that revelation shows us the way to go about the issues of our lives and the steps to take in order to get to where God has ordained for us. This is why we must continue to crave for brighter light in order to remain exempted from the horrors of these last days. Remember, Jesus said: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32; see also Isaiah 48:17, 21; John 8:36). As you crave for revelation and commit to your findings, I see joblessness terminated in your life in Jesus’ name! Revelation simple means spiritual understanding of the truth.

And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables (Mark 4:11): Thus, one must be born again because new birth is a non negotiable requirement for anyone to access the revelation of the truth.

Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”
