  • Group faults vote of confidence on Ajimobi

The vote of confidence recently passed on governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state by some leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) after of the ‘abysmal’ performance in the last general elections has sparked off crisis within the party.

A group, APC reformers described the vote of confidence passed on Ajimobi as self-deceit.

The group admonished President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu not to recognize the Oyo state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for any appointment for the interest of the party.

They also faulted a recent vote of confidence passed on Ajimobi by the party stakeholders in the state.

APC reformers which comprises of APC former political appointees and leaders in Oyo state in a statement signed by its acting secretary, Sulemon Ramoni, described the vote of confidence as a continuation of self-deception by a congress of charlatans that lead to the monumental failure of the party at the just concluded elections.

The statement reads: “After spending almost eight years in office, the people of Oyo state have passed a vote of no confidence in Ajimobi by ensuring that he lost his unit, ward, local government and the state in the last election.

“Of what benefit would the decision of his self-appointed leaders and handpicked executive be for the party, democracy and the good people of the state?

“Mr President and the national leadership of the party including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should not be misled by the charlatans to consider Ajimobi for a ministerial or any federal appointment which is their motive.

“Any federal appointment for him will worsen the situation of the party in the state, make reconciliation impossible and lead to more loses in future elections.

“The party lost the presidential election in Oyo state because it held on the same day with Ajimobi’s senatorial election.

“The State elections were lost because of his influence and interference.

“After the 2015 general election, Ajimobi scolded the party chairman, Chief Akin Oke for losing his unit and ward, as a matter of fact he advised him to resign.

“Some local government caretaker chairmen were also removed by him for losing their constituencies. Now that he has lost woefully, he deserves no reprieve.

“The APC Reformers advised the national leadership of the party to immediately dissolve the APC executive in the state from the wards to the state and constitute a caretaker committee to rebuild the party.

“The president was also advised to opt for young, vibrant and progressive minded people from Oyo state for ministerial and other federal appointments instead of the completely rejected Ajimobi and his ilk.”

  • Ajimobi to election losers: Embrace peace, prepare for next election

Go to court if you’re not satisfied with election outcome, Ajimobi

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has challenged all those who lost in the recently concluded general elections in the country to in the spirit of sportsmanship embrace peace and begin to prepare for the next election.

Instead of fomenting troubles, Ajimobi said all those who think they have issues or suspected any untoward action or activities in the election result as announced by the electoral umpire should go to the court of law.

He gave the charge while addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Governor’s office.

Ajimobi who had congratulated the governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) charged the incoming administration to learn and sustain the good things of his APC led government while also working on the areas he (Ajimobi) might have been perceived not to have done well.

He warned trouble-makers not compromise on his legacy of peace and security of lives and property until the last day of his administration, urging the incoming government to ensure that the state does not slip back into the days of brigandage, adding that such will be antithetical to development.

Ajimobi said “In all things, we must appreciate God and God has been very kind to our government. First, we have been able to for the first time, use eight years, and it was eight years of peace, security, safety and of development on all fronts.

“When you talk about this last election, from the results that we have seen, the declared winners, the usual thing as a sportsman and democrat is to congratulate all those who won and to encourage those who lost to accept the losses.

“Also, is the fact that we encourage sustainability of peace and development. We must not allow Oyo state to slip back to the days of brigandage. It is antithetical to development.

“So, all those who lost should accept and if they find reasons why they lost, and they believe that some maneuvering or manipulations have been done, they should take the legal course.

“But if you believe that nothing untoward has happened, you leave it and prepare for the next time. My admonition is that our people should maintain and sustain peace.

“This government will not leave until the 29th of May. Between now and the 29th of May, we are in government and will ensure peace and tranquility which is the hallmark of our administration. And we believe that all hands must be on deck to maintain this.

“With regard to the newly elected governor, he should also toe the line of peace, encourage the people to toe the line of peace. Even if we have done badly in some areas, we have done many good things that outweigh those supposedly bad things and in anything in life, there are pros and cons.

“Once our pluses are more than our minuses, it should be encouraged. The fact that we lost does not mean that we should throw away the baby with the bath water. I think there are good things he can learn from us, there are good things we will be ready to give him to take from and he should adjust and improve on the bad ones so that we can go to the next level.”

  • Olubadan: new Iyalode to be installed soon

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has revealed that the installation of Chief Mrs. Theresa Oyekanmi as the substantive Iyalode of Ibadanland will happen soon.

A statement by the Personal Assistant and Director of Public Affairs to the palace, Mr. Adeola Oloko, said the monarch gave the assurance while welcoming chiefs from the Iyalode line who paid him a surprise visit at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace on Thursday.

The chiefs visited to know when the new Iyalode would be installed.

According to Oba Adetunji, there is no doubt that following the death of the former Iyalode, High Chief Aminat Abiodun, on December 8, 2018 and observation of the 41-days mandatory mourning period, the Otun Iyalode, Chief Mrs. Theresa Oyekanmi, is sure to be automatically installed as the new Iyalode of Ibadanland.

He said: “Everybody knows that our chieftaincy system in Ibadan is based on promotion. Even, the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has repeatedly said that, the beauty of Ibadan Chieftaincy System is that it is ordered, such that the most senior on the line is automatically qualified for the top job.

“For example, on 27 April, 2016 when the wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari paid me a courtesy visit in the palace, the Governor took pride in the orderly arrangement of our chieftaincy system.”

The monarch also revealed that nobody in the Iyalode line or elsewhere has challenged the seniority of Chief (Mrs.) Oyekanmi or questioned her integrity and her state of mind, making her installation a fait accompli.

Adetunji, however, pointed out the procedure for appointing Iyalode is similar to that of the Olubadan, adding that in consonance with the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957, the kingmakers who are high chiefs, have been duly informed by the Secretary to the Olubadan-in-Council, stressing that there was some progress.

“I have signed along with another High Chiefs and we are waiting for the other High Chiefs to sign also.

“To speed it up, the vacancies that exist in the Balongun line notwithstanding the chieftaincy crisis had been added to it.
