  • Adeboye urges prayers against senseless killings

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has called on Christians to seek the face of God against individuals troubling the peace of the nation.

He spoke last Sunday at the special prayers of freedom for the nation and families in commemoration of the 58th Independence Day service at RCCG Headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Adeboye said the unabated spate of killings and kidnapping in parts of the country was worrisome, indicating Nigeria needs divine intervention.

The respected cleric pointed out it was obvious the socio-economic and insecurity challenges of the nation can never be solved by any human imagination or strategy.

He urged Christians should seek the face of the Almighty God for solutions.

“We need God to stop every siege on our towns and villages, state or the nation at large. Every nation is made up of families.

“We are part of this nation and our families are part of this nation Lord, we plead that God will send help to us and stop the siege,” he said

Adeboye asserted that Nigerians, especially Christians must go beyond complaining but seek the face of God in humility.

“God is not saying if my people will talk or complain about their problems but if my people shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face. I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land,” he said.

He stated Nigeria cannot possibly be the worst place on earth as there are worse, stating “we only need divine help to stop the siege upon our country and peace and prosperity reign across the length and breadth of Nigeria.”

He added: “I visited two different countries and I saw their problems. There are countries where people live in the graveyards.

“The graveyards have concrete and they practically sleep on it because they have no shelter to live and their government named the placed: the city of the death.”

  • Latest poverty ranking hypocrisy of West- Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christin Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has faulted the latest poverty ranking on Nigeria.

He dismissed it as hypocrisy of the western world against Africans but said it should propel Nigeria’s leaders to do more in the fight against corruption

Adeboye spoke last Sunday at the special prayer and thanksgiving for fathers, grandfathers, intending fathers, excellent men and their families by RCCG, National Headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish Ebute Metta, Lagos.

He noted the recent report that Nigeria has already overtaken India as the country with the largest number of extremely poor people in early 2018 and the Democratic Republic of Congo could soon take over the number two spot is part of the hypocrisy of the west against Africa.

He noted that western countries have the poorest of the poor living in their communities that are largely underreported.

According to him: “You move round some so called developed countries and one will be shocked by the level of poverty that the people are experiencing.”

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, declared categorisation of developed countries and some undeveloped countries is opinion of the few people whose facts can be contested.

He added that it is sad that some developed countries are benefiting from the crises facing Nigeria.

“When they talk, they talk about the things that favour them and they want us to continue in the trajectory that our system is failing so that they will continue to benefits from our failures,” he stressed.

He further challenged governments at all levels to use the recent report as an opportunity to redouble the fight against scourge of poverty and inequalities ravaging the nation.

“We know that there is poverty in Nigeria and government must not lose sleep in its efforts to address the scourge and bring the dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.

Although Adeboye commended efforts of the current administration in taking Nigeria out of recession, he said continued dependency on oil is not a sustainable model that would position Nigeria to greater heights among the comity of nations.

“Our focus on oil is enriching the richer and making the poorer poor. I think the government should legislate policies that will empower the people living in grassroots, reduce poverty and support small scale enterprises,” he stated.

He advised state governments to make more funds available to tackle poverty in the 2019 budget.

  • Killings unacceptable, says Adeboye

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has described the killings in Plateau State as condemnable.

Adeboye stated this at the Special Thanksgiving Service for all mothers, intending mothers, widows & their families organised by the church at the Redemption Way Ebute Metta Throne of Grace National Headquarters in Lagos on Sunday.

The event, tagged: Joy of Many Generation was attended by Christian faithful drawn from across the country.. It coincided with the thanksgiving celebration for the General Overseer’s wife Pastor Folu,  who will turn 70 on July 13.

Pastor Adeboye called for a pragmatic security approach toward tackling all forms of insecurity.

Represented by Assistant General Overseer on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, Adeboye charged Nigerians not to lose hope.

“There is still hope for this nation, though what is happening in the country is very sad, but hope is not lost as God has not left us alone. There are still pockets of things we can see around  that will make us happy’”, he said.

  • Adeboye to youths: prepare for leadership

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has challenged youths to

prepare themselves for the responsibilities that comes with political leadership.

He spoke last Sunday at a special prayer and thanksgiving for students, teachers, lecturers, professors and their families by the RCCG National Headquarters Throne of Grace Parish at Redemption Way, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

He said that the Buhari administration has done the needful by assenting to the #NotToYoungToRule bill, pointing out the onus lies with youths to take advantage of the law and prepare themselves adequately for political leadership.

“Are the Nigeria youths ready and prepared? It is one thing to agitate and it is another thing to be prepared to take advantage of the new law.

“You don’t wait for opportunity when they come; you prepare before opportunity comes so you can recognise it and manage it,” Adeboye stated.

He noted that political leadership in the nation has peculiar challenges, which every credible youth interested in politics must be aware of.

He charged the youths to be ready to get involved, mobilise, organise and take their future and our nation’s destiny into their hands.

Adeboye, who was represented by the Assistant General Overseer, Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said Nigerians are in a hurry for development, which puts a lot of pressure on people in positions of authority to deliver on the social contracts they have with the people.

He stated for young people to take advantage of the new law in the political landscape, they must be exhibit enough political awareness and interest with a view to addressing the myriad of socio-economic challenges facing the country.

Adeboye further commended Nigerians, who played one role or the other to achieving 19 years of unbroken democratic rule, which according to him remains the best form of government.

He stated though the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria are more daunting, the current parlous state is not exclusive to Nigeria as other developing countries are grappling with their share of challenges.

  • Adeboye to Christians: get your PVCs

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Christians to register for their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

The cleric said Christians who show any form of indifference about their PVCs might sin against God.

Adeboye spoke at a special prayer and thanksgiving for expectant mothers, medics, paramedics and all those seeking medical attention.

The event was organised by RCCG’s national headquarters Throne of Grace Parish on Redemption Way in Ebutte Metta, Lagos.

It was tagged: Hope for the Hopeless and was attended by thousands of Christians from across the country.

The event comprised prayer, bible teaching and prophetic impartation.

Adeboye said as 2019 draws nearer and Nigerians will choose those to lead them for another four years, Christians must get their PVCs to choose politicians of their choice.

The cleric said eligible Christian voters who fail to get their PVCs would commit a sin against God.

According to him, the scriptures says give therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.

Although he said the bible enjoins Christians to pray for kings and those in positions of authority, Adeboye added that voting is a civil right that must be obeyed and followed by all eligible voters.

The cleric, who spoke through his Assistant General Overseer and Special Assistant of Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said: “Nigerians should be ready to vote for credible and God-fearing people in positions of authority at all levels of governance. Those who are currently in power but are not serving us well should be voted out.”

He said Nigerians should also vote out politicians who are aiding and supporting the killing of fellow beings, irrespective of who they are.

Adeboye decried the killings in Benue and other parts of the country, saying they cast a dent on the present government for its alleged failure to protect the people.

The cleric, who supported the concern raised by American President Donald Trump, noted that every right-thinking person would decry the killing of thousands of innocent people in any part of the country.

He challenged the National Assembly to pass this year’s budget as quickly as possible in the interest of Nigerians.

According to him, National Assembly members were elected to serve the interest, yearnings and hopes of the ordinary Nigerians and not for backing the selfish interests of some people.

  • There may be no Nigeria or elections in 2019 – Adeboye

    • FG not doing enough on killings, says CAN, PFN, others

Will there be elections in the country next year as widely expected?

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, fears there may not be, especially if the wave of killings by herdsmen is not stopped immediately.

He even fears there may be Nigeria unless the authorities find a lasting solution to the problem.

Speaking at the May 2018 Holy Ghost service on Friday night, Adeboye stated that there was no way he could continue to keep quiet while the killings, which have  been counted in thousands this year alone, went on.

He spoke against the backdrop of the killing of two Catholic Church priest in Benue State, a fortnight ago and several attacks on churches.

Adeboye, speaking on the theme, ‘Stronger than your enemies – 5 (Habitation of the Almighty)’ said: “There is no father that will lose 19 children in a day and be quiet. It doesn’t matter the denominations.

“All Christians in Nigeria call me daddy, so when anyone of them dies it’s my son that is dead.

“We need to pray because unless these killings stop immediately even Nigeria may not live. We are not talking about individuals we are talking about Nigeria itself.

“A bishop asked me some time ago what God had revealed to me about 2019 election.

“I told him I am not sure there would be an election because unless these killings stop, there may be no election next year, I’m mot prophesying but this is so because no one will go out to vote if not sure they will return home safely.

“I have seen war at a close range, there is nothing good about it. A nation may survive a civil war but no nation can survive a religious war and remain the same.

“That Nigeria may live and not experience religious war these killings must stop.”

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev Supo Ayokunle, agrees with Adeboye, saying the federal government appears uninterested in stopping the killing.

Speaking through his Special Assistant Media and Communication, Rev Bayo Oladeji, Ayokunle said: “We are happy that Pastor Adeboye has spoken his mind on the killings. Nothing can be farther from the truth.

“Maybe the government will finally wake up to its responsibilities now. This administration has been giving excuses for the killings.

“The Inspector General of Police blamed it on the law against open grazing. How about the killings in states without the law in place? The Minister of Interior said it was because the grazing lines were blocked.

“The President himself blamed Gaddafi-trained soldiers for the killings. The government has been making excuses. But now that Pastor Adeboye has spoken, we hope and pray that they will listen.”

Ayokunle concurred that the killings might stop the elections, saying: “is it not when people are alive that they will vote? Will they wake up the dead to vote for them?”

National Publicity Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Archbishop Emma Isong, believes Adeboye must have spoken after a deep insight into the spiritual world.

He urged government to listen to the prominent preacher who, he said is not known for frivolous talks.

Isong accused the federal government of not doing enough to stop the killings, saying this situation was saddening.

Presiding Bishop of Dominion Chapel International Churches (DCIC) Abuja, Archbishop John Praise, said: “The indices are not good at all and at the scale we are going, we might as well forget the elections and the nation. Everything appears set to return the government whether elected or not.

“The killings should stop because we don’t want a divided nation and you cannot tell to what extent people can go to defend themselves.”

The Secretary of PFN in Lagos, Rev Toyin Kehinde, is also of the opinion that the killings must stop for Nigeria to stand the chance of surviving and holding elections.

“The government should stop the killings because you want to rule over living people. If the people are dead, who will you rule over?

“I hope the killings are not a ploy to postpone the elections or ensure they don’t even hold. We are tired of bloodshed because life is very precious.

“Any government that wants to come back should stop killings first so that people can return them to power.”

But the Director of Media and Public Relations Methodist Church of Nigeria (MCN),  Rev Dapo Daramola, said the killings, though saddening, will not stop the elections.

He expressed faith in the capacity of government to halt the killings.

His words: “We believe the killings are fallouts of criminalities and the government will live up to its responsibilities.

“While we are very saddened by the killings, we don’t believe we have gotten to a point where they will stop the elections.”

He spoke at a special prayer and thanksgiving service for the First Born at the church headquarters, RCCG Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta in Lagos last Sunday.

Speaking at the service with the theme enforcing your victory, Adeboye said though governments are vested with the responsibility of providing security and welfare services, individuals can also bring to bear their knowledge, skills and talents to bring effective change within their communities.

He said the path of peace and prosperity does not rest on the government alone but all Nigerians willing to play their part.

Adeboye, who spoke through The Assistant General Overseer Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, pointed out there are social, educational, health, emotional, physical and financial needs within communities that public-spirited people can always fix through volunteerism.

He asserted that it is fun and rewarding when people identify needs, strength and opportunities within communities and proffer solutions to them.

Adeboye stated many western nations are experiencing exponential growth and development because everyone is willing to sacrifice for the good of others.

He also appealed to government to be alive to their responsibility of revamping the economy and addressing the security and social tissues plaguing our country.

“Government across board must not lose sleep on the needs to keep the country united because government no matter how lofty their plans and programme cannot build alone. They need the support and buy in of the people,” Adeboye stressed.

He explained when government keeps electoral promises, it will be easy for people to buy into their policies and support them.

He assured the federal government all hope is not lost as the economy will be revived and unity restored.
