  • My civil war experiences, by Adeboye

General overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has recalled the sordid ordeals he and other Nigerians went through during the 1967-1970 civil war.

He said Nigerians should stop talking about war because whoever has experienced it will never pray to see it again.

He spoke at a special thanksgiving and prayer programme of the RCCG headquarters (Throne of Grace) Ebute-Metta, Lagos in commemoration of the Nigeria Independence Day celebration.

Rather than talking about war, he said Nigerians must do everything to work against it and unite to fix the nation.

Adeboye, who spoke on freedom for all, recalled his experiences during the civil war.

According to him: “l was in the University of Nsukka when the war broke out and from the experience l gathered from the sordid condition of war victims, l would never pray for another outbreak of war in Nigeria.

“I do not want war in Nigeria.  Please stop talking about war.  We should now concentrate on praying that God would restore the glory of Lagos and Nigeria in general.”

He added: “I have exchanged N500.00 with $800.00 in this country and that is the reason rather than encouraging anything that would lead to war, I would rather pray that God would restore the glory of Nigeria.

“I believe that if there is no war, Nigeria shall be great again” he said.

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said at 57 Nigeria is supposed to have attained the level of maturity to the extent that the nation can manage any situation without allowing it to degenerate to chaos.

He reminded the government that Nigeria is a democracy and every problem should be addressed with the reality in mind.

He appealed to the government to deal gently with agitators of the Independence Peoples of Biafra, calling for dialogue instead of force to rein them in.

  • Adeboye, Pitan, Bamiloye, others for youth convention

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), his wife, Folu; Director General Bank of Industry, Kayode Pitan; co-founder of Mount Zion Film Production, Mrs. Gloria Bamiloye, and ace gospel ace Nathaniel Bassey have been confirmed for the 2017 National Youth Convention of the church.

The convention, which ends on October 7, holds at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The Assistant General Overseer of Youth Adult and Young Affairs Worldwide, Pastor Peter Amenkhienan, stated this at a briefing with newsmen.

He said the programme tagged Agents of Transformation will attract thousands of youth from Africa, the United Kingdom, Kenya, South Africa and the United States of America.

It will feature National Youths Sports festival, transformation challenge, the Redeemed Initiative Skill and Empowerment (RISE) and award ceremony for youth and young adult churches with the best corporate social services to their immediate communities.

Amenkhienan said the convention is aimed at building young people with godly character and integrity needed to excel in today’s world.

He said that RCCG is targeting raising leaders with character and integrity who will do their country proud anywhere in the world.

The convention, according to him, will target teenagers, undergraduates and the young-at-heart, adding that previous editions have helped reduce unemployment and social vices among the youth based on feedback from participants.

He noted that although there are young people in the society who have messed up the opportunities given to them in public and private sectors, there are also unsung heroes walking their talks and making great impact in the world.

He stressed:  “In RCCG, we emphasise that success without integrity is no achievement. We don’t have bastards in RCCG. There are pockets of people in politics who have not soiled their hands with corruption.”

Amenkhienmen, who was represented by the National Young and Adult Youth Pastor, Precious Akingbade, noted youths in the country are energetic, adventurous and daring.

He said it is incumbent on the church to harness these opportunities and build the required character for the betterment of the society.

  • Adeboye urges govt, ASUU to sheathe sword

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has pleaded with the federal government and the   Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve their differences in students’ interest.

He lamented that the more the strike is prolonged, the more the economy and the development of the country are threatened.

Adeboye spoke last Sunday during his 50th wedding anniversary.

At the service which held at the national headquarters of the RCCG in Lagos, Adeboye prayed for families, bachelors and spinsters.

Speaking through the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, he said there are urgent needs for the federal government and ASUU to reach a consensus immediately.

Education, he said, is the life wire of every successful nation, warning that not only the students but also the future of the nation are at the receiving end of the industrial action.

Adeboye said: “Higher institutions of learning are where learning takes place to bring development to any country.

“Therefore, continual strike will only continue to aggravate the chaos that would eventually lead to retrogression.”

Calling for a truce, he said: “I plead with the federal government to realise that education is the live wire of this great country and to the best of its ability accede to the demands of ASUU while ASUU too should be very considerate with its demands, knowing the present state of the country and that of the economy.”

Adeboye also said it was high time the problem of Fulani herdsmen was tackled once and for all.

He lamented the pains Fulani herdsmen have inflicted on families and wondered whether those that had brought sorrow to many homes in the country were really Fulani herdsmen.

“Fulani herdsmen that we used to know in those days were simply armed with staff, bottled water and were very friendly anywhere they went.

“The present-day Fulani herdsmen go about with AK 47 rifle, maiming and killing and Nigerians are wondering who the collaborators are that had been supplying them with such sophisticated weapons and for what reasons.”

Adeboye emphasised the importance of love in families, saying similar gesture should be applied by the leadership in the nation to every segment of the country for peace to reign everywhere.

Pastor Adeboye said the task of the church in the new age is soul winning through discipleship, stressing that it must be carried out with all sense of responsibility.

He decried the spate of moral degeneration, which according to him, placed a great burden on the church to preach the gospel of Jesus and his saving grace to redeem mankind from sins.

He noted that every activity done in the church that would not lead to soul-winning was useless

Adeboye said: “Soul winning is not fun or mere academic exercise but a business, the king’s business that require investment, careful planning and preparation of where to put the harvests.”

He challenged ministers of the gospel to emulate his effort in getting soul saved and ready for heaven.

“l hardly sleep for four hours. This is because there is no time to waste to seek the lost and rescue the perishing world.”

He restated the commitment of the church in developing disciples for God.

“God is looking for committed, selfless and faithful soldiers that will carry out his purpose. We will not fail but rise to work and do the kingdom business,” he said.

Adeboye added that what helped the church to reach 196 countries and still counting was because of the effort of the church in raising committed disciples, who were faithful and selfless in their work for God.

“The church can rise and take up territories for Jesus, if there are willing and dependable soldiers that can work through thin and thick,” he said.

The National Overseer of RCCG, Nigeria Pastor Joseph Obayemi warned against the use of the church logo for commercial purpose.

  • Adeboye’s wife seeks excellence in mortgage banking

Life of Church Christian Church of God (RCCG) General Overseer Worldwide Pastor (Mrs) Folu Adeboye has urged mortgage bankers to promote the virtues of excellence and honesty in banking.

She spoke at the opening of the head office of Jubilee-Life Mortgage Bank (JLMB), owned by the church in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Mrs. Adeboye, who represented her husband Pastor Enoch Adeboye, recalled that in the 1990s, some mortgage banks after collecting customers’ money collapsed, thereby causing them tears, woes and untimely deaths. She warned the management of the bank to be above board in their customer relations.

She said: ‘’You don’t need to break the hearts of people after collecting their money and send them to their early graves because you did not pay back.’’ She charged the staff to be unique in service delivery and carry out their responsibilities diligently.

Chairman of the bank Elder Felix Ohiwerei described the event as glorious, adding that it was the first time that the 14-year-old bank would have its own offices, having been on rented apartments. ‘’In the past, people found it difficult to reach us. Now, we are in a spacious place where you can do so,’’ Ohiwerei said. He thanked customers for their support, and urged them to continue to bank with the lender.

Its Managing Director, Aderemi Olatunbode said the lender was licensed in 2003 and commenced business the following year. From a shareholders’ capital fund of N200 million and a branch, it has grown to N5 billion with six branches. In response to those who accuse the bank of being unknown.

  • Nigerian economic problems will soon be over, says Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that the economic challenges facing the country will soon be over as the days of waiting are over.

He said this at the special thanksgiving and prayer programme for mothers, pregnant women, single parents and their families organized by RCCG, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Meta, Lagos.

The event, tagged ‘No More Waiting’,   featured prayers, soul-lifting songs, Bible teachings and prophetic ministration.

He said that God remains the surest way out of any economic quagmire and is about to turn things around for good in Nigeria.

He stressed that the effort of man is good but limited and until we put our lives, families and the Nigerian economy into God’s hands, we will not experience a turnaround for good.

Adeboye stressed that any leader who relies on his sweat to find a solution to a challenge would labour in vain.

He said “the days of waiting can be very long and sickening but when God steps in, miracles ensue.”

Adeboye said if God could make pregnant women to be delivered safely and put smiles on the faces of their families, He is able to put an end to the economic challenges in the country.

He said: “When anyone focuses on God and believes that He has absolute power to control all things, only then would he be able to surmount every mountain and testify.”
