According to him, the need for the creation of more public institutions of learning is germane because the present institutions in Nigeria are grossly inadequate to meet the demand of eligible students to acquire higher education.

He said that it has become a recurring decimal as hundreds of thousands of students write and pass external examinations but cannot progress because of the limited number of institutions available to absolve them.

Adeboye, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Personnel a nd Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said that we need more public schools, more universities, colleges of education and technical schools that can absolve the growing number of young students in need of education to fulfill their dreams and aspiration.

Asked whether the proliferation of private schools is welcome

development for the educational sector, he said private schools are needed to help provide alternative for prospective students to access education but government continuous supervision should be thoroughly done for the maintenance of quality standard.

“There is no institution that we have is sufficient. All the number of institutions that we have are not sufficient for the teeming number of eligible students who have grappled with the limited slots in schools,” he said.

He noted that government should open its hands for people who want to set up private schools to do so, so that students who want to go to higher institutions and have the financial capacity to access the opportunities and potential in private schools can do without much problem.

“I believe that government agencies can peg the amount of school fees to be paid by students in private universities which would help to provide lessen the burden of parents to pay”, he said. He also advised students to continue to exhibit the virtues of hardwork, focus, diligence, and God factor should not be ignored for them to excel in life.

He said “Today, when I think back, it is the invisible hand of God that has been guiding me. That is why I am talking to someone today that if you want to excel and you haven’t surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, come and do so now. You cannot excel without him.”

In his words, the Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Prof Debo Adeyewa, called for a state of emergency in the educational sector so that our youth can have a sense of direction in life.

According to him: “We must continue to make efforts to recover stolen funds for development and individuals who have looted our common wealth should be punished so that others would learn.”

The cleric pointed out that the devil is always after the destiny of first children except they how to beat to his devices.

Adeboye, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, lauded the efforts of the new administration, especially in improved power supply and the fight against corruption.

Buhari’s administration, he pointed out, has started on the right path and deserves the support of all and sundry.

He took a swipe at those criticising the administration’s slow pace, saying “it will be better to go slow to move Nigeria forward than rush into doing things shabbily because of pressure and criticism.”

Appealing for patience, he said: “100 days in office is not enough to judge the performance of the new administration.

“Nigerians gave him four years mandate to deliver on his lofty promise of change. Let us wait and be patience as better days will come.”

Asked to respond to criticisms that Buhari’s cabinet was taking too long to come on board, Adeboye argued if the President will have to take more time to get the right people, he should be given that latitude.

Adeboye opens prayer camp in hometown

Nearly 30 years after he conceived the idea, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has finally opened a prayer mountain.

The camp, which was opened at a relatively quiet ceremony, is located in Ifewara the hometown of the respected preacher, some 10 minutes away from the ancient city of Ife in Osun State.

Elders and pastors from the RCCG family and dignitaries from Ifewara as well as workers and volunteers of the project attended the opening of the facility named Mount Carmel Prayer Mountain.

Conceived as a prayer village, the facility boasts of a magnificent mix of sanctuaries, dormitories, chalets and numerous prayer huts flowing down the slope of a hill, overlooked by bigger residential blocks.

There are also halls of various sizes, a restaurant, bookshop and supermarket.

Welcoming guests at the opening ceremony, Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adeboye, who was in charge of the construction, revealed that although the plot of land had been bought years ago but was lying fallow until about seven years ago when her husband moved for its development.

Tracing the origin of the project, she said: “We had been inspired to build a prayer mountain by what we saw in South Korea in 1985.

“We went for a David Yonggi Cho prayer conference there, and one afternoon, they took the delegates to their prayer mountain, which we admired so much.

“So since 1985, we had it in our minds that one day, there would be a prayer mountain of a similar status in Nigeria.”

Also explaining the name of the prayer mountain, she said: “We named this Mount Carmel after the Mount Carmel where Prophet Elijah defeated the work of the devil. We also remembered the Mount of Transfiguration.”

Corroborating his wife’s account, Adeboye said, “When we returned from South Korea in 1985, we decided by this grace of God that there would be a prayer mountain in Nigeria that people from all over the world would come to pray.

“The way I had planned it, the place should have been built many years ago. But in the face of the enormous challenges, we resorted to building a place called “Halleluyah House” at Redemption camp.”

He went on: “Yet the passion for the prayer mountain was still burning in my heart. I believed that by the time I was 60 years old, we would have built it but it was not possible.

“When I was getting to 70 years old, I remembered that every year after 70 years of a man on earth is extra time.

“To ensure that the dream would not die, and efforts that had been made would not be fruitless, I called my wife and gave her the responsibility to build this prayer mountain.”

Adeboye condemnes same-sex marriage in US

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has condemned the recent United States Supreme Court ruling supporting same-sex marriages across the country as satanic and demonic.

Adeboye made this known at a Special Prayer and Thanksgiving Service for security operatives held last week at the national headquarters of RCCG, Throne of Grace, Ebutte- Metta, Lagos.

The theme, Divine security for the Nigeria Police Force and their family, brought together hundreds of police men and officers from across the country.

According to him, the recent national approval given by the apex court on same-sex marriage in the US is from the pit of hell. He said it is unfortunate that America who started in the spirit is now living in the flesh.

Pastor Johnson Odesola, speaking on behalf of Adeboye, said that the United States of America had long deviated from the fundamental foundation of God which their forefathers laid.

He noted that America is on its way to the valley as backsliding, moral degeneration and ungodliness continue unabated in the country.

He said: “It shows the end of time and level of degeneration. The same-sex marriage is from the pit of hell and a backsliding victory for America.”

He challenged Africa to rise against any ungodly pressure from the West to legalise same-sex marriage, as it is against nature and unAfrican.

He also called for prayers for the protection and fear of God for the police as they discharge their statutory duty of securing lives and properties.

“You that are protectors also need divine protection, and even the best police in the world require divine protection,” the preacher said. He urged them to put their confidence in God who is able to build the wall of defence around them.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arise, remarked that the security situation was gradually improving in the country, owing to the improvement of training of members of the force.

Arase, who was represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration (Lagos), Ngozi Iloh, expressed appreciation for the programme, saying it would boost the morale of the officers.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police-in-Charge of Counter Terrorism, Yahaya Garba Audu, described the programme as very rewarding.

He advised the organisers to give the programme more publicity in the future so that the turn out will be more than what they saw.

“If enough publicity is made for subsequent programmes, I quite believe that a lot of officers from all over the country would attend.” Audu added that the security agencies in the country were doing their best to nip terrorism in the bud.

“Our challenge is that these terrorists are faceless, striking here and there. Today, they are in Maiduguri, tomorrow they are in Jos.

“All we can do is to make arrest because if we embark on shoot-at-sight, innocent persons would be involved and we would be indicted for human right abuse,” Audu stated.
