The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji on Saturday solicited support for All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2026 Osun guber election at Ede, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Oyebamij, who is a leading governorship aspirant, joined the kinsman of Adeleke, who is a leader of the APC in Ede, Hon. Ghaffar Ajani and ex-Osun Speaker Adejare Bello in a loyalty walk in Ede.

Speaking at APC Party secretariat, Oke-Gada, Ajani said the loyalty walk was aimed at mobilising support APC and Oyebamiji to emerge as the candidate for the 2026 election.

He expressed delight over the massive turnout of members of APC and residents of Ede community despite that the incumbent governor is from the town.

According to him: “I am glad with the large turn out of party faithfuls here today, it reinforces the love the people of Osun has for our great party and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

“The turn out also reiterate the confidence our people have in the capacity and competence of Oyebamiji to lead our party to electoral success in the guber elections of August 8th, 2026.”

Oyebamiji expressed confidence that APC will emerge victorious come 2026 noting that the residents of Osun State cannot wait to return the state to progressive party.

“I am confident that APC will win the state in 2026. The residents of Osun State have seen the difference that the incumbent party has nothing to offer the state other than political lies.”

Osun APM chair slams Adeleke over state’s poor VAT ranking

The former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration for generating the lowest Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue among Southwest states.

Adebayo, who also serves as the Osun State Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of becoming a liability to the federal government by stalling the progress of ongoing economic reforms.

Reacting to the Q1 2025 VAT report released by StatiSense, which ranked Osun State at the bottom among its regional counterparts, Adebayo said in a statement on Sunday: “Governor Adeleke has nothing to offer this state apart from entertainment.”

“Osun under Adeleke has become a burden to the Federal government by contributing next to nothing to the economic development of the government at the centre, dragging the country back.

“We are raising serious concern over the fiscal underperformance of Adeleke. The report revealed that Osun State generated ₦5.95 billion in VAT revenue which is the lowest in South West states despite receiving a higher allocation of ₦21.23 billion compared with 19.63 billion of Ekiti State.

“The disparity between what Osun contributes and what it receives is not only alarming but underscores a chronic lack of productivity and innovation in economic governance by Adeleke’s government.”

He added that “This revelation exposes the overreliance on federal allocation by Adeleke’s government while contributing the least to the central revenue pool. It is disheartening that states like Ekiti, Ogun, and Ondo, which are smaller in commercial stature, generated more VAT than Osun. This fiscal laziness reflects poorly on the leadership of the current administration.”

He urged the Osun government to stimulate local productivity by supporting SMEs, modernising agriculture, and improving the ease of doing business among others.

“Beyond the current political propaganda in the state and mediocrity, the state leadership should know that the future of Osun cannot be sustained on federal generosity alone. A state that once led in education, agriculture, and enterprise must not settle for crumbs in the 21st-century economy.”

Meanwhile, reacting to APM, the ruling party, PDP through its Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, berated the stance of the opposition, describing it as michevious.

He explained that “VAT generation is not a magic tap that a government can turn on overnight. It is the outcome of years of structural economic planning, industrial base development, market size, corporate presence, and consumer power.

“Osun State, historically driven by a public service economy and burdened by the fiscal mismanagement of the 12-year APC rule that APM conveniently ignores, is in a steady recovery mode. Governor Adeleke inherited a near-collapsed economy in 2022, overburdened with debt, unpaid entitlements, abandoned public infrastructure and a demotivated local enterprise ecosystem.”

He added that Adeleke’s government is on a recovery path to stimulate SMEs, empowering artisans and farmers, promoting digital entrepreneurship, and revitalising agriculture has begun yielding measurable outcomes, gradually reflecting in VAT returns and more evidently in the state’s rising Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

LG crisis: Osun Rep member slams Adeleke over alleged blackmail of Tinubu, Oyetola, AGF

A member of the House of Representatives representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for allegedly blackmailing President Bola Tinubu and key federal officials over the ongoing local government leadership crisis in the state.

Oke, who chairs the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, condemned Adeleke’s actions, accusing him of deliberately causing hardship in the state by politicising the council leadership dispute.

The crisis stems from conflicting mandates issued to local government executives. The Court of Appeal recently reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) officials elected in October 2022, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted its council elections in February 2025, deepening the impasse.

In response, the Osun State House of Assembly labelled the reinstated APC chairmen as impostors and called on President Tinubu to stop the Minister of Finance, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Attorney-General of the Federation, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, from disbursing allocations to them.

Reacting to the Assembly’s position, Oke said Adeleke’s administration is engaging in “blame games” rather than finding lasting solutions. He warned that the continued politicisation of the issue could undermine governance and public trust in Osun.

He said, “Please stop blackmailing Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Osun State APC Leader, Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN and CBN Governor on this matter.

“It is your Government that is inflicting pains on us, the beneficiaries of Local Government Administration in Osun State, by not doing the right thing.”

He disclosed that “One of the reasons I left PDP under your (Adeleke) leadership is because you don’t listen to advice. Those people working with you do not mean well for you.

“I spoke to you and advised you on what to do on the Court of Appeal Judgment reinstating elected APC Council Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors, but you ignored me. Only an illiterate lawyer will advise you contrary to what the Court of Appeal ruled. That PDP/OSSIEC approached the wrong Court. What else do you need to hear, sir?”

He noted that the window for the Osun Government to ask for a stay of execution and appeal the verdict reinstating APC excos at the Supreme Court is closing, and the beneficiaries will not go to court on the APP case on the matter.

He advised that Adeleke should direct the Local Government workers to resume their duties and embrace the APC elected officials by working together.

Equally, he advised the state electoral body to issue 180 days to conduct a fresh LG election if APC elected officials are not asking for completion of their 3-year Mandate.

“All the PDP chairmanship aspirants, vice and councillors spent a fortune to participate in the ill-fated election, and most of them are now suffering hopelessly. The governor can add them to the list of his SAs or SSAs.”

Ex-Osun IPAC chair slams Adeleke over probe of radio stations

The former Osun State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon Adewale Adebayo, has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s directive summoning and probing radio stations in the state for airing opposition views.

Adeleke had ordered an investigation into certain radio stations over alleged inciteful remarks made by opposition leaders in the wake of a fresh Appeal Court ruling on the ongoing Osun local council crisis.

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Adebayo, who also chairs the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Osun, described the governor’s action as a deliberate clampdown on independent media and their executives for giving airtime to dissenting voices.

He warned that such moves threaten press freedom and undermine democratic principles.

He said, “We are strongly condemning the ongoing intimidation, undue probing and veiled threats issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke against media managers because they are providing platforms for opposition voices.

“We are not in a military dispensation but a democratic society, hence the media cannot be government propaganda machinery but should be a watchdog of democracy and a platform for all voices.”

He stressed that the intimidation is an attempt to suppress and undermine press freedom and poses a direct threat to democratic engagement and transparency in Osun State.

“We call on civil society organisations, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and all defenders of free speech to rise up and resist this encroachment on press freedom in Osun State.”

LG crisis: Adeleke orders probe of Osun radio stations over alleged inciteful comments

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a probe of the heads of some radio stations in the state for allegedly allowing opposition leaders to make inciteful and violent comments on air following the recent Appeal Court verdict on local government administration.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor expressed concern that the comments made by opposition figures breached national broadcasting codes and posed a threat to public peace.

Governor Adeleke condemned the conduct of some broadcasters who, according to him, failed to uphold journalistic ethics by permitting inflammatory statements without granting fair hearing to the affected parties.

He further criticized the stations for allowing libelous and seditious allegations against public officials to go unchecked.

“The Governor expressed displeasure at the activities of some radio stations who allowed guests to incite the public to violence and also manifest disdain for fair hearing to stakeholders,” the statement read.

“He condemned the refusal to caution guests who made libelous and seditious allegations against public officials, while at the same time blocking the right to fair hearing for affected people.”

As part of immediate steps, the governor has directed the Commissioner for Information to summon the General Managers of the implicated stations for a briefing ahead of possible further actions.

While reiterating his administration’s commitment to press freedom, Adeleke emphasized the importance of adhering to broadcasting codes as a hallmark of responsible journalism. He warned that any station found guilty of violating the rules would face sanctions.

“We task our people to be law abiding. The local government question is being resolved without any further bloodletting. Those promoting violence will face the law at the right time”, the Governor was quoted as saying.

The group within APC named Osun Progressives Youth(O-SPY) with membership across the State noted that Adeleke’s presence in APC “will erode public trust and lead to faction within APC because our leader, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola whose PDP had demonised.”

A statement by the coordinator of the group, Tunmise Ajiboye on Monday explained that, “Adeleke’s presence will only bring bad luck to APC because he knows that he will be bitterly defeated by the candidate of our party in 2026 guber poll.

“The public are warming up to vote him out from Bola Ige House in 2026 because his administration is characterised with anti progressive tendencies. Those who are propagating his plan of defection are only cleaver by half. They are comparing Osun State with Delta state.

“Do not compare Delta and Akwa Ibom states who are predominantly PDP with Osun State who is predominantly progressive state. Statically the APC doesn’t have up to 30% in the presidential results of both Akwa Ibom and Delta states results.

“But in the Osun State APC scored 47.34% and PDP had 48.85%. Does that mean if Adeleke is allowed to come to the APC, APC votes will increase in 2027 ? In fact it may decrease, because many people will feel betrayed and dejected.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State yesterday said its 2026 governorship ticket is not for sale.

He said: “I’m saying this categorically that APC tickets are not for sale. As a matter of fact, as of today, we don’t see Adeleke as a member or part of APC as a party. Let me be sincere with you, the APC in Osun is the party to beat.

“I want to tell you that if not because of the fear of the unknown that is disturbing the Adeleke family and the PDP, they wouldn’t have been showing the intention of coming to the APC.”

He added: “We have been saying this times without number that APC in Osun, if not because of the brigandage that followed the 2022 election and that of 2023, we shouldn’t have had elected PDP officials across the state.

“Now that the Adeleke family has seen that their tenure is already terminated, come August 8, 2026. We are driving away the PDP from the Osun government, and we want to appeal to our people to remain calm. There is no space for PDP or Adeleke in the APC.”

However, Adeleke media aide, Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke remains a bonafide PDP member in Osun state.

He added: “The media speculation about likely or imminent defection is fake news. Governor Adeleke remains a member and leader of the PDP in Osun State.’’

“The visit by the Adeleke dynasty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a routine courtesy visit. Any reading of the defection agenda into the visit is mere fake news.”
