President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last night hosted Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at his Ikoyi private home in Lagos.

He was accompanied by his businessman elder brother Dr. Adedeji Adeleke and renowned Afrobeat artiste David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido).

    Davido is Dr. Adeleke’s son.

The visit was made public by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, via a post on his verified X handle, @DOlusegun.

The presidential aide wrote: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu receives in audience, H.E. Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, and Chief Adedeji Adeleke at his residence in Lagos.”

Details of the visit were not immediately made public, but sources familiar with the visit described it as cordial and reflective of the President’s inclusive engagement style, particularly with leaders and influential figures across political divides.

Adeleke, an opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor is being challenged by the President’s All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate senior figures ahead of next year’s election.

Last month, the three senators from Osun State — all elected on PDP platform —pledged to back Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Most politically serving House of Representatives members in Osun State, Hon. Oluwole Oke last month defected to the APC.

The presence of the popular music star at the meeting sparked widespread interest on social media, with supporters and fans applauding what many see as a symbolic moment of unity and generational bridging.

Osun LG crisis/autonomy: Coalition condemns Adeleke’s outburst against NBA, Supreme Court

A coalition of civil society groups have condemned Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke over outburst against the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for keeping mum during council control crisis and the Supreme Court for granting financial autonomy to local government.

This is just as the coalition called for the cancellation of English language examination of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) after logistics forced students to take the paper at night.

The Nation reports that on Wednesday the commencement of Part II and III (objectives and theory) of English Language examinations was delayed, forcing students in Osun and other states to start the exam by 7pm to 9pm.

Reacting to the development, the coalition under the auspices of The Osun Masterminds(TOM) its Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli noted that “the failure of the examination body further exposed the lip service being paid to education by governors as most of the public schools have no light.

“On this basis, we call for the cancellation and rescheduling of the English language, since most of the candidates wrote under tension and psychological trauma; any test conducted on anyone in this state cannot be relied upon as a test of such parson’s ability, and therefore should be discarded and reconducted.”

Speaking about the outburst, Comrade Ayo Ologun berated the Information commissioner for allowing emotion to take control of him which is not a good representation of a good lawyer.

“As a lawyer, if you have an opinion about an issue, the moment a judge makes a pronouncement on it, you are bound by it, you should not condemn it. As a lawyer, you should not derogate the judgment of any court talkless of Supreme court verdict on the ground that the apex court does not have the right to amend the Constitution.”

Adeleke rebukes NBA, Supreme Court over Osun council crisis, autonomy verdict

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday berated the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) for keeping mum over the ongoing control crisis on local government areas in the state.

He also faulted the Supreme Court over the verdict granting local government financial autonomy.

Adeleke, speaking in Osogbo, capital of Osun State at the commencement of 2025 NBA Law Week, berated NBA for keeping mum during the imbroglio of councils and failing to make a statement to the review and remark of Attorney-General of the Federation on Appeal Court and Federal High Court verdict on the council seat.

The governor, represented by his Commissioner for Information,  Kolapo Alimi, said: “The NBA Osogbo chairman and other branches’ chairmen that are here, we have charge for you, we want you to be more proactive sir, anybody that is observing what is going on in Osun State today will know that we have imbroglio in our local governments and the issue we are discussing.”

He said there are two Court of Appeal verdicts and two Federal High Court judgments, but NBA failed to make any statement as regard them.

“Part of our charge to the NBA, all the chairmen… as at that time, there is nothing wrong for the NBA to issue a statement.”

He also lambasted NBA for its failure to defend the judges who wanted to hear the matter but were intimidated by politicians who accused them of bribery, tagging the action as Contempt Ex Facie Curiae.

“The NBA needs to wake up. When you feel somebody wants to rubbish the judiciary, it is the duty of NBA to come out and speak against that kind of atrocity.”

Earlier, the NBA Chairman, Osogbo branch, Olayemi Abiona Esq, in his address tasked his members to reflect on their roles in shaping a Nigeria where governance is equitable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of all citizens.

Adeleke’s aide sold Osun bank shares, NIWA boss replies PDP

The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has denied the claim that he sold Osun shares at Living Trust Bank to Ponzi scheme.

He said an aide of Governor Ademola Adeleke made the transaction.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had alleged that Osun State shares were fraudulently sold to a ponzi scheme while Oyebamiji was the commissioner for Finance, demanding that he should explain his role in the transaction.

However, Oyebamiji through Adebayo Adedeji, his campaign team coordinator, in a statement yesterday described the allegation as false and misleading with intent to cast aspersion on his 2026 governorship aspiration, because he is a leading aspirant on a mission to rescue the state from PDP bad governance.

He said: “Oyebamiji played no role in how Osun State’s shares in LivingTrust were sold to private investors as the transaction which ceded the shares to private investors to place long before he became the commissioner for Finance in the state.

“The divestment of Osun’s shares occurred in 2013 when Dr Wale Bolorunduro, who reportedly is now a financial advisor to Governor Adeleke, was the commissioner for Finance.

“Living trust Mortgage Bank, which used to be named Omoluabi Mortgage Bank, was wholly state-owned until 2013 when it was converted from a Private Limited Liability Company to a Public Limited Liability Company and subsequently listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange where its shares were publicly traded.”

Warns three monarchs against breach of peace in their domains

Sequel to the gradual return of peace and harmony in the warring Osun communities, and the forthcoming Eid El Kabir Festival known in local parlance as ‘Ileya,’ Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has given an immediate approval for the relaxation of curfew imposed on the three warring communities of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun.

According to a statement signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, on behalf of the governor, the curfew imposed on the three warring communities has therefore been relaxed.

According to the statement, while the curfew is still in force, it has, however, been relaxed by the governor. The curfew now begins from 9:00 pm till 5:00 am daily, with effect from today, Sunday, 25th May, 2025.

Adeleke, however, issued a stern warning to all stakeholders, especially the three traditional rulers to tell their subjects to continue to toe the path of peace and harmony as any of the traditional rulers whose subject is caught or found being a clog in the wheel of achieving total peace, in any of the three communities, would be made to face the wrath of the law.

The statement by Alimi reads: “Following near total return to peace in the warring communities of Ifon-Ilobu- Erin Osun, it gladdens my heart, as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State to direct that the hitherto 6 pm-6 am curfew will now be between 9 pm to 5 am of the following day. This is with effect from tomorrow, Sunday, 25th May, 2025.

“I commend the three towns and other stakeholders for the peace and harmony currently taking shape, I urge that you please keep it up.

“However, I hereby direct that a contingent of all security personnel, comprising the Army, Police, DSS and Civil Defence, should accordingly continue to keep a 24-hour surveillance in the three communities.

“Finally, I am using this medium to wish our dear Muslim and non- Muslim brothers and sisters in the three towns of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun, as well as Osun State in general, a happy Eid El Kabir festival in advance,” the statement said.

Atiku shuns Adeleke, visits Aregbesola amid setbacks for coalition

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atuku Abubakar shunned Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke to visit erstwhile Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola amid push for coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

The Nation recalled Atiku, ex-presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi; ex-Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and other opposition stakeholders have proposed a coalition to unseat Tinubu in 2027.

But the PDP Governors forum rejected coalition and any merger in 2027 noting they will only welcome any willing person or groups pleased to join the party.

On Friday, Atiku shunned Adeleke by refusing to visit him first at either the Government House or Governor’s office.

Rather he visited Aregbesola in his residence before attending the coronation of Owa Obokun of Ijesa land, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup.

Atiku’s wife, Titi had arrived the venue of the coronation as other dignitaries including Adeleke, Ex-Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and other PDP leaders and chieftains were already seated at the coronation.

In a video that surfaced online, Aregbesola who also shunned the coronation arena, welcomed Atiku at his residence with drummers chanting anti-Tinubu’s songs.

However, Atiku in company of ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo arrived the coronation venue after 50 minutes into the programme to greet dignitaries, including Governor Ademola Adeleke.

After the programme, Atiku reunited with Aregbesola at the reception of the Coronation programme at Ilesa Grammar School.

The shunning of Adeleke has set tongue-wagging in Osun political circles as some PDP leaders who pleaded anonymity said Atiku is not pleased because the Governor has technically endorsed Tinubu for a second term in office.

2026 guber: I’ll unseat Adeleke as Osun governor — Ex-senator Husain vows

Former Senator representing Osun West, Mudashiru Husain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared his intention to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election, vowing to unseat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Husain, a long-time political rival of Adeleke, made the declaration while addressing party supporters.

The Nation recalls that both politicians clashed in the 2017 Osun West Senatorial by-election, which Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won.

Speaking through a statement by his campaign media head, Victor Ojelabi, Husain said he is prepared to reclaim the state for the APC if chosen as the party’s flagbearer.

He recounted his earlier sacrifice for the party, noting that he stepped down for the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke in 2015, a move he said indirectly boosted the political rise of Ademola Adeleke, who later defected to the PDP.

“I defeated Isiaka Adeleke in 2011 and conceded the ticket to him in 2014. I can do it again. With the backing of my party and the people of Osun, I am confident in my ability and experience to lead the state and restore purposeful governance under the APC,” Husain declared.

Be receptive to correction, Basiru tells Adeleke

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has again taken a swipe at the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke for its penchant for attacking those who offer it useful advice.

Spokesman for the governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, recently while reacting to Basiru’s advice on how the Adeleke administration is making life unbearable for the people of the state, resorted to attack.

But a statement by Basiru, who is also the APC National Secretary in Abuja yesterday said he would not stop at anything in giving useful advice to Adeleke, ‘’as anything that happens to the state will affect him and others.’’

According to the former Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, who currently chairs the National Sugar Development Commission (NSDC), he expected that the incumbent government would not take his advice ‘’because from day one, it likes to be praised, even for the littlest of things.’’

The statement said: “The reaction is yet another sad example of the administration’s inability to engage in constructive discourse. Instead of addressing clear failures, the government continues its descent into baseless abuse, theatrical name-calling, and hollow propaganda.

“It is important to remind the Adeleke administration that governance is not about trading insults, but about responding to accountability with facts. A government that has failed across critical sectors cannot hide behind slogans and solar lights that barely last a week.

“While the administration boasts of a 40 per cent debt reduction, it conveniently hides the fact that Osun’s federal allocation has increased by over 300 per cent. What the Adeleke government claims as financial discipline is simply the benefit of increased federal oil receipts, not strategic fiscal management and discipline.

“Governor Adeleke has denied the widespread reports of teachers’ disengagement since assuming office. Why did Adeleke sack about 5,000 teachers employed by his predecessor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola?

“Two and a half years after, why has he not engaged them again? Senator Basiru once said in an interview that APC doesn’t mind if Adeleke replaces all the 5,000 with members of his party. What matters is securing the future of our children. Besides, Thursday, last week, made it exactly a year that Adeleke announced employment of temporary workers at the state-owned media. No employment letter has been issued to them to date.

“The road inaugurated with media fanfare was washed away within two days, a clear indictment of the substandard quality that defines this administration’s projects.’’

Governorship poll: APC will sack Adeleke in 2026, says Omoworare

A former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to former President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 election.

Omoworare, who is one of the leading gubernatorial aspirants within the APC, encouraged all stakeholders within the party to work assiduously to mobilise youths and new voters for the support of the party.

The Ile-Ife-born politician speaking at the 6th Edition of the Yoruba Summit held in Osogbo, Osun State, for the advancement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term, said, “In 2026, the electorate will rate the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and they will do that by ballot.”

He lamented that despite a huge increase in allocation to state governors, which was made possible by President Tinubu’s reforms, many governors are still underperforming, which is telling on people getting dividends of democracy.

According to him, “We knew how much we are taking in Osun State now, there is almost 300% increment to what we are collecting before and it is not reflecting on the streets and on the faces of the people, so we should vote out any government that is not using the money well. The states have never had it this good, this is the best allocation from the federal government to the states.

“APC will win the 2026 guber election, and what we need is cooperation, collaboration, and coordination. We are on the ground here in Osun State. We just need to come together for victory.

“Osun state people don’t want charlatans in power, they want hard hard-working leader who knows the values of everything. I will emerge as a candidate of the party, and I will lead our party to victory with the help of God and all the stakeholders.”
