    • Businessman dies at 85

The Chief Executive Officer of MicCom Cables & Wires, Prince Tunde Ponle, has died.

The renowned philanthropist owns a popular golf course in his hometown, Ada, in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.

He reportedly died on Sunday at the age of 85.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday mourned the passing of a business mogul.

In a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the governor commiserated with the family, associates, and admirers of the late businessman, describing his demise as “the exit of a giant”.

The governor said Ponle’s death was painful beyond words could actually convey, noting that the late industrialist made exceptional contributions to the economy of the state and beyond.

He said the CEO of MicCom Cables and Wires lived an accomplished life and that his legacy of impacting society for the better will not be forgotten easily.

“I’m visibly shaken to learn about the passing of Chief (Prince) Tunde Laoye. While alive, Prince Ponle was a model of a good citizen, contributing not just his intellect but his God-given ability to solve some of society’s challenges,” Governor Adeleke stated in a condolences message.

“Aside from the economic benefits that his multi-million dollar MicCom-golf recreation centre drives for Ada, Prince Ponle’s generosity was felt at the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), where his multi-million dollar building and the MicCom Cancer Centre donations continue to serve the institution. His passing, though at 85 years, is devastating, and this is because Osun has lost one of its best.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Osun State, I express my heartfelt condolences to Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Titi Laoye-Ponle, children, family and everyone touched by the passing of Prince Ponle.”

Governor Adeleke prays to Almighty God to grant the deceased an eternal rest and bestow him the grace of an abode in paradise. He also prays to God to grant the family left behind by Prince Ponle the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

•Acrobat dance without success must end—Okpebholo tells APC members ahead primary

The leadership of the Accord Party has affirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke was validly nominated and elected as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election, warning expelled and disgruntled members against stoking leadership confusion or attempting to undermine the party’s unified position ahead of the poll.

The Nation recalled that Adeleke, being the sole aspirant of the party emerged as the candidate of the party after polling 145 delegates’ vote out of 150 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a faction of the party at the national level led by its ex-presidential candidate, Prof. Chris Inumolen kicked against Adeleke.

Reacting to the development, the Osun State Chairman of Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, in a statement yesterday, refuted the claim by Inumolen, stating that “he has been formally expelled from the party due to several instances of anti-party conduct.”

Akande asserted that the Accord Party remains Nigeria’s best-organised and crises-free political party, saying “the party values transparency and discipline and holds democracy as a core value with no room for either godfatherism or political manipulation.”

He continued “The spokesperson, Forum of State Chairmen of Accord South West, Hon. Oke Rotimi, stated that the rumour making rounds that our National Chairman, Mr. Maxwell Mgbudem, Esq. has been suspended is absolutely and totally false.

“The National Executive Committee meeting on 3rd December 2025 passed a vote of confidence in Mgbudem by the whole National Working Committee. At no stage was there any form of disciplinary action against him as widely disseminated.”

Subsequently, Akande refuted the claims made against the party and its governorship candidate, Adeleke, clarifying that “Adeleke formally became a member of ACCORD on 6th November 2025 and he received public recognition from the party on 9th December 2025.

“He emerged as the valid winner at the ACCORD Party Primary conducted on 10th December 2025. The said primary election took place under strict guidelines approved by NEC and monitored by officials from INEC.”

Meanwhile, the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has tasked members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite and end the ‘acrobatic’ dance of the incumbent governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 gubernatorial race.

Okpebholo who is the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, during a stakeholders meeting held with members of the party ahead of the Saturday primary at the secretariat in Osogbo on Friday night, noted that the gathering is to further pronounce the APC’s resolve to democratic principles.

He announced that the mode of primary that will be adopted is affirmation.

He noted that all the 1,660 will be duly accredited at the venue of the primary before they are allowed into the venue.

“I want to appeal for unity in the APC after the primary. You must not allow internal bitterness to weaken our contest after the affirmation tomorrow.”

“We must return Osun State to the Progressive fold next year. You must all unite to end the acrobatic dance without success in this state. Are you not tired of what you are seeing?”

He assured that the primary will be free and fair in accordance with the assignment given to the committee by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.”

Analyst tackles Adeleke over defection to Accord Party

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent decision to join the Accord Party has sparked debate, with analysts raising concerns over the faction he aligned with.

The Accord Party has been deeply divided for months, with Bar. Maxwell Ndubem and Prof. Chris Imumolen both claiming the national chairmanship. In October 2024, the FCT High Court ruled that Prof. Chris Imumolen is the authentic National Chairman.

Despite this ruling, INEC has yet to fully implement the court’s order, allowing both factions to operate simultaneously.

Governor Adeleke reportedly joined the faction led by Bar. Maxwell Ndubem, a group considered by some as recognised by INEC, but legally inferior to the court-backed leadership of Prof. Imumolen.

Analysts warned that Adeleke’s alignment could carry serious political consequences.

“If the discrepancy between the court-recognised leadership and the INEC-acknowledged faction is not resolved, it may affect Governor Adeleke’s legitimacy within the Accord Party and threaten his re-election prospects in 2027,” one political analyst said.

Experts noted that for a governor seeking a stable platform for re-election, joining a faction in defiance of a court ruling could be a costly strategic error unless the matter is addressed promptly.

    Osun Governor Adeleke quits PDP

The governor, who forwarded his letter of resignation to the chairman of the party in Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, Ede, Osun State, thanked PDP for the opportunity given to him to serve the state on the platform.

Bis had told reporters in Osogbo, the state capital, that the governor, who had been adopted as the candidate, would not make use of the platform, unless the protracted leadership crisis is resolved.

Bisi also said Adeleke would only agree to seek re-election as PDP candiidate if the resolution of the crisis is accepted and recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

There have been speculations that the governor had opened talks with the Accord Party for the purpose of adopting it as platform for the 2026 poll.

Due to the uncertainties in the party, the governorship primary earlier scheduled for today had been cancelled by the faction.

The leadership crisis had shifted to the court where legal fireworks would continue between the Damagun/Turaki/Makinde and Wike/Anyanwu factions.

The conflict neary robbed the party the opportunity of participating at the recent Anambra State governorship poll until former Senate President Bukola Saraki temporarily brokered peace between the two camps before Senator Samuel Anyanwu could agree to forward the name of Jude Ezenwafor to the electoral commission as candidate.

Both factions, amid suspension and counter-suspension of national officers, are fighting over the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
