    Imamship tussle: Muslim clerics appeal to Adeleke to respect court order

    Muslim clerics in Inisa town in Osun State have appealed to Governor Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke to respect a subsisting court order on the appointment of the new Chief Imam of Inisa Central Mosque.

    In the legal tussle in suit number HOS/88/2021 at State High Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, the court restrained all the contenders from paradise themselves as chief Imam of Inisa Central Mosque.

    But the State government in flagrant disregard to the court order appointed one of the contenders, Abdul Akeem as Chief Imam.

    Clerics in Inisa, Sheikh Tijani Abdulazeez-Kolawole and Sheikh Abdul-Rasaq Ahmad appealed to the governor to tread carefully and abide by court order which restrained contenders from parading themselves as chief Imam of the mosque.

    Abdul-Rasaq Ahmad said, “We were surprised that the governor or government appointed one of the contenders as the Chief Imam of Inisa Central mosque despite the court order restraining all contenders from becoming imam of the mosque. We want the whole world to know this.”

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has laid the foundation of hajj camp.

    The Nation reports that Adeleke during Nasfat Ramadan’s lecture last week lamented that Osun State is the only state in the Southwest that does not have a hajj camp, promising that he will provide a befitting camp for pilgrims.

    The governor yesterday laid the foundation of the hajj camp in company with his deputy, Kola Adewusi; President of Osun Muslim Community, Sheikh Mustapha Olawuyi; Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animashaun; Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun; Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, among other Muslim leaders in the state.

    Speaking at the event held at the back of Government Secretariat, Abere, Adeleke said: “Why will it be only Osun State that does not have a camp for pilgrims? I pronounced it a few days ago and we are here today to the glory of Allah laying the foundation.

    Adeleke lays foundation of Hajj Camp in Osun

    The Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, has laid the foundation of the Hajj Camp for Muslim pilgrims in the state.

    Subsequently, Adeleke on Monday laid the foundation of Hajj Camp in the company of his deputy, Kola Adewusi, President of Osun Muslim Community, Sheikh Mustapha Olawuyi, Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, Timi of Ede, and Oba Munirudeen Lawal among other Muslim leaders in the state.

    Speaking at the event held at the back of the Government Secretariat, Abere, Adeleke said: “Why will it be only Osun state that does not have a camp for pilgrims. I pronounced it yesterday ago and we are here today to the glory of Allah laying the foundation.

    “Since we have laid the foundation, work starts immediately, so that they will be happy anytime they are going to Hajj, they will gather here to relax before they embark and after the journey. I will assist the pilgrims amidst the high cost of things.”

    Earlier, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderibigbe noted: “The facility when completed will serve the purpose of easy movement of Pilgrims and accommodation before the movement to the airport, hajj camp is necessary and indeed imperative.”

    Agric expert blasts Adeleke as Osun food inflation ranks highest in SW

    An agric and export finance expert Femi Adesola has descended heavily on Governor Ademola Adeleke over the food inflation in the State ranked as the highest in the South West. 

    According to a report by a data company and artificial intelligence platform, Statisense Osun State has the highest food price inflation in the Southwest. 

    Adesola berated Adeleke for neglect of the agricultural sector noting that N3.1b was earmarked for Agriculture and Food Security Ministry in Osun’s 2024 budget with no specific programme and project itemised

    He said that agriculture constitutes 70% of the direct and indirect employment opportunities in Osun State. 

    According to Adesola: “Neglecting this sector which serves as a vital source of food, employment and livelihood, is not an option. Osun is both a civil servant and an agrarian state. Arable land totals 761,690 hectares in Osun with the availability of rivers and streams for irrigation with fish farming.

    “Regrettably, Adeleke has only paid lip service to the plight of the agriculture sector, lacking any actionable plans to complement his rhetoric. Despite his speeches at various fora, including the International Cocoa Conference in Lagos and recent agricultural events in London, tangible steps toward revitalizing the sector remain absent.”

    He submitted the Agric Commissioner failed to deploy his expertise to ramp up food production in Osun State. 

    He said: “The State Government must devise a comprehensive programme characterised by meticulous planning, execution, monitoring and control to ensure its implementation to enhance food production in the State.”

    Disquiet over Adeleke’s three-year tenure extension for HoS, AG

    Following extension of service year of Head of Service (HoS), Samuel Ayanleye and Accountant-General (AG), Rasheed Alabi, by three years, by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, a human rights group has fingered corruption for the executive decision.

    The Nation recalls that Adeleke in January extended the service year of HoS by three years. Also, the government secretly extended the tenure of AG after his tenure expired on March 14.

    A civil society organisation, Committee for Defence of Human Right (CDHR), through its Chairman, Emmanuel Olowu, yesterday while addressing reporters said Governor Adeleke had demonstrated discontent for the public service rule by the extension of HoS’ and AG’s tenure.

    He said: “Adeleke has been acting with impunity; and the House of Assembly is also an accomplice in disregarding Osun Public Service Rule 2011. We caution the governor against setting bad precedent on the public service and history of Osun State.

    “We have written letter to the House of Assembly on the need to caution Adeleke over the extension, but nothing was done.”

    Olowu added that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) must stand against Adeleke “because the extension contravenes Section 4 of Public Service Rule, 2011.”

    He said the governor should apologise to civil servants, withdraw the extension of service of HoS and AG and order permanent secretaries, whose retirement are less than six months, to submit their letters, among others.

    “We are going to approach the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and also challenge the extension of the year of service of Head of Service and Accountant-General in court. We will not relent until we achieve the desired result because the elongation will affect other career officers in Osun civil service.”

    Adeleke seeks Assembly’s approval to change state logo

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has written the House of Assembly, requesting for approval to change the state’s logo.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the request letter was read by Speaker of the assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, during plenary yesterday.

    In the letter, titled: “Presentation of the New Logo of Osun State Government for Approval”, the governor urged the assembly to fast track the approval, so as to make the new logo the official brand of the state.

    “Further to the determination of this administration to redirect our dear state to a glorious path as well as assume her respected position among the comity of states in Nigeria, I present to the Honourable House of Assembly the new logo of Osun Government (State of the Living Spring).

    Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said that it is the collective efforts of all, for President Bola Tinubu to succeed as leader and political father of the nation.

    A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, revealed that Adeleke stated this while playing host to members of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) who paid him a courtesy call at Government House.

    He said: “Mr President is aware of the complete support which Osun state government has for his policies and programmes for the country. My government would not leave out anything in supporting the government of Bola Tinubu, and in making the housing project a fruitful one in Osun state.”

    He added that the state is open to partnership with the Federal Housing Authority for the president’s Housing Agenda for all, adding that there is a stakeholder who is from the state on the board.

    Adeleke berates APC over claim of using N18b to renovate Govt House

    Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun has lambasted the state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) over the claim that N18 billion was used to renovate the Government House, Oke-Fia.

    The Nation recalled that Adeleke on Saturday moved into the Government House after renovation, noting that the APC-led administration left the place in decay.

    However, APC tackled the governor, saying the rehabilitation was a misplaced priority.

    In his reaction, Adeleke on Tuesday, March 19, also debunked the claim that his administration got a loan to implement N100 billion infrastructure plans for the state.

    The governor through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said that the APC lied that the present administration had taken a loan of N10billion to implement current infrastructure programmes across the state.

    He said: “We reject fake news that the state government spent 18 billion naira on the renovation of the Government House. It is a figment of the imagination of failed men of yesterday. Rather than sponsoring falsehood, we urge the APC to accept it failed while it governed Osun state and it should be brave enough to commend the present government for succeeding where it recorded mass failure.

    “We affirm once again that the current government has not taken any loan since inception to pursue any programme or project. The project in question is a multi-billion naira expenditure spread over time designed to bridge the huge infra deficit the governor inherited from APC. Adeleke restated his commitment to implementing the infra projects without loans as a way of drawing investors to Osun and boosting the local economy in line with the administration’s five-point agenda.”

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke was yesterday taken to an Osun State High Court, Osogbo for violation of court order and installing new Olufon despite restraining order.

    The Nation recalls that Morohunfolu Ruling House through Prince Sulaiman Akinyooye, Peter Akinyooye and others had dragged Prince Wahab Oyegbile of Olaojo Ruling House before the court after he was selected to emerge as the new Olufon.

    Subsequently, Morohunfolu Ruling House through Prince Peter Akinyooye and others obtained a preservative order on November 9, 2022, as Justice Ayo Oyebiyi ordered that nobody, including all the parties involved and Osun State Governor, should do anything in respect of the vacant Olufon stool pending the determination of the initial suit.

    JUST IN: Court remands Adeleke’s ally over alleged terrorism, murder

    A close associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state, Olalekan Oyeyemi has been remanded in the correctional facility, Ile-Ife over alleged terrorism and the alleged killing of four persons.

    Olalekan who is popularly known as ‘Emir’ was appointed by Adeleke as a member of the Disciplinary Committee for Osun State Public Transportation System shortly after he was sworn in 2022.

    He was arraigned at Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state on ten count charges of terrorism and murder.

    The police prosecutor, Umar Rabiu disclosed that Olalekan committed the offences on February 27th, August 22nd and November 28th 2022 in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

    He stated: “Olalekan conspired to wit Act of terrorism by being armed with guns, terrorising All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters and other residents at Orita CMS, Ayepe and Ayetoro in Osogbo thereby killing Muraina Olayiwole, Tope, Tajudeen Rabiu and Oyewale Sharif.

    “The accused person blocked one Golf car with registration number BD 468 BDJ driven by one Oyebanji Kazeem with his bus in the company of thugs, the driver narrowly escaped death. He also burnt down the vehicle based on political differences.”

    Rabiu noted that the offences contravened Sections 26(1)(a), 2(2), i, h, of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

    Meanwhile, Olalekan pleaded not guilty to the offences pressed against him as his counsel, Edmund Biriomoni filed a formal bail application for him.

    The prosecutor from Inspector General of Police, Rabiu noted that he would need more time to reply and file a counter application of bail by the defence counsel.

    The presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ile-Ife correctional facility and adjourned the matter to March 19, for a hearing of the bail application.
