Contestant sues Adeleke over Aree stool

Another fresh crisis is rocking Iree community in Boripe Local Government of Osun State, as one of the contestants for Aree stool, Prince Afolabi Ali, has sued Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Nation recalls that Iree community is in confusion, following the appointment of two monarchs. Oba Ademola Ponle was appointed by the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola in 2022. Governor Adeleke appointed Oba Muritala Oyelakin as the king last week after issuing a White Paper.

However, the process that produced the second king was challenged by Prince Ali from Olubonku Ruling House, who said Governor Adeleke flouted the constitution in the process of selection of the second king.

He added that Olubonku Ruling House is the only chieftaincy ruling house competent to present a candidate for the Aree stool, being the only ruling house that has yet to rule since 1866 when Atanda Olubonku Ruling House ruled between 1795 and 1866.

It was noted that Governor Adeleke contravened Section 20, sub section (2) of the Chief’s Law (cap.25) Laws of Osun State, 2002 by approving the selection of Oyelakin before the statutory 21 days.

A protest letter delivered to Governor Adeleke and signed by the Head of Nyanbilolu Ruling House, Prince Bowofola Abraham and Secretary, Prince Lateef Sulaimon, said they kicked against the appointment.

Osun government and other concerned authorities followed the prescribed native law and custom procedure to produce Oba Olagunju. We are looking forward to the governor to present staff of office to our king.”
