Adeleke, Osun APC clash over fleeing Amotekun commandant amid Akinlalu killings

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday traded words over the whereabouts of the fleeing Amotekun Commandant, Isaac Omoyele, following the alleged killing of residents of Akinlalu community by his operatives.

The Nation reports that Amotekun personnel invaded Akinlalu Market Square, killing three members of the same family and another resident, while several others sustained gunshot injuries.

Omoyele later claimed he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt — a claim the police dismissed.

In response, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector-General of Police arrested 25 Amotekun operatives on Wednesday night and sealed their operational armoury base at Oke-Fia, Osogbo, as well as the outfit’s Ife Central office.

In a statement on Sunday, the APC, through its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, urged Governor Adeleke to produce the Amotekun Commandant for police investigation.

Olabisi accused the Governor of hypocrisy, noting that while Adeleke publicly commended the police for their professional handling of the case, he had failed to ensure Omoyele’s appearance before investigators.

He said justice and accountability demanded that the state government cooperate fully with security agencies to unravel the truth behind the tragic Akinlalu killings.

“However, to prove that he was not merely paying a lip-service to the call for prosecution of the blood-sucking vampires responsible for the carnage of innocent souls at Akinlalu, Governor Adeleke should prioritise the exposition of the Commander of Osun Amotekun, Mr Isaac Adekunle Omoyele.

“If the news flying around in Osogbo, the state capital, is anything to go by that Omoyele, one of the crucial suspects in the dastardly act in Akinlalu, has been hibernating in the Government House, Osogbo, to evade the police arrest, it is condemnable, irresponsible, wicked and unpatriotic.

“It is saddening that the governor is linked to the allegation of aiding and abetting the commission of crimes as it is now the case with his former Chief Security Officer, Omoyele, who is said to have been out of circulation immediately his balloon of lies on his staged assassination attempt was deflated by the police.”

However, Adeleke through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed rejected calls by the APC to interfere in the ongoing investigation into the Akinlalu incident, describing the opposition’s allegations as another example of a losing party struggling for relevance.

The governor reiterated his trust in the ongoing police investigation to unravel the details of the unfortunate killings at Akinlalu even as he cautioned against politicization of a matter of law and order.

“The Akinlalu matter is a question of law and order and the Inspector General of Police has acted on the matter. The police is conducting an active investigation. Our government will not intervene or interfere.

“I caution our people to avoid the temptation to politicize the unfortunate incident. We should allow due process to take its course without let or hindrance.”

He noted that “The opposition’s allegations are unfounded and baseless. The Osun APC in want of direction and strategy has grown to be a constant purveyor of fake news.”

    • Seeks proper profiling of new recruits into Amotekun

The pioneer Osun State Commandant of Amotekun, Chief Amitolu Shittu, has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to hand over fleeing Commandant of the outfit, Isaac Omoyele to Inspector General of the Police over killings of Akinlalu town by his corps.

The Nation reports that Amotekun operatives invaded the Akinlalu market square, killing three members of the same family and another resident, while several others sustained gunshot injuries. Omoyele later claimed he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt — a claim the police dismissed.

Subsequently, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the IGP arrested 25 Amotekun corps on Wednesday night. It sealed their operational-amoury base at Oke-Fia, Osogbo, including the outfit’s Ife Central Office.

Speaking with newsmen on Saturday, Amitolu condemned the killings of innocent residents in Osun State by Amotekun corps, noting that “Since I left office, the outfit has been personalised by its new leadership which makes Amotekun to derail from the reason for its creation.”

Speaking about the recruitment of 1,000 corps, he said “The present leadership engaged the services of ex -convicts, thugs and cultists. I want to charge Governor Adeleke, if he cannot disband the corps, he should investigate and profile them to know who was recruited.

“Presently, what we are facing is criminal masquerading, Isaac Omoyele, personalizing Amotekun for pecuniary gains. We seized vehicles from some robbers when I was serving but today, Omoyele has disposed of the properties recovered from robbers.

“Adeleke should investigate the activities of Amotekun, as the corps is now involved in a personal security guard and they collect money which is never remitted into the coffers of the government. The outfit was never meant to man personal property.

“Since I left office in January 2023, Amotekun has been personalised by Omoyele for his own venture.

“Criminals have found their ways into Amotekun, majority of those that are  ex-convicts, cultists and those with criminal records are recruited into the outfit. Governor must look for ways to flush them out.”

Produce fleeing Amotekun commandant for prosecution — APM tells Adeleke

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has called on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to produce the fleeing Commandant of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, in connection with the alleged killings carried out by his operatives in Akinlalu community.

In a statement issued by the party’s Osun State Chairman, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, the APM warned that the governor must not obstruct the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ensure justice for the slain victims.

He described it as disturbing that Governor Adeleke has remained silent while members of a state security outfit under his administration are allegedly involved in acts of violence against the very residents he swore to protect.

“Omoyele had been invited by the police after his corps killed about 10 people in Osun community market square and tagged them bandits. Instead of honoring the police invite, the police claimed that he staged his assassination attempt to escape Justice.”

“We learnt that since his script of staged assassination has been known, he has relocated to Government House to evade arrest and prosecution.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed on Wednesday that the beneficiaries, serving sentences at the Nigerian Correctional Service facilities in Ilesa and Ile-Ife, were freed under the constitutional powers vested in the governor by Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

In a proclamation dated September 24, 2025, and issued under his hand and the Public Seal of Osun State, Governor Adeleke formally granted amnesty to the listed convicts under the state’s jurisdiction.

“I, Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State of Nigeria, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Paragraph (a) Subsection (1) of Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and acting in accordance with the Advisory Council of State designated under Subsection (2) of the said Section, am graciously pleased to extend my mercy to the said thirty-six (36) convicts.

“By this act, I remit and release unto them all pains, penalties, and punishments whatsoever that may have accrued from their convictions, and I hereby require all to whom it may concern to take due notice thereof.

He noted that beneficiaries of this Independence Day amnesty include men and women convicted mostly of minor offences such as stealing and conspiracy, many of whom had served substantial portions of their sentences.

Nigeria @ 65: Adeleke urges political leaders to uphold rule of law

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders to respect the rule of law and uphold judicial processes as Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary.

In his Independence Day message, conveyed through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke congratulated Nigerians and stressed the need for genuine national reforms that would entrench true federalism.

He described the occasion as a crucial moment to evaluate the health of the nation’s constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and the delivery of good governance.

The governor further urged leaders to safeguard the foundation of national governance by ensuring strict compliance with the constitution and unwavering respect for the rule of law.

He said, “We have made progress, but we can move faster and better. We have recorded a lot of progress, but we should continue to protect the foundation of our national existence, the constitution and its interpretation by a truly independent judiciary.

“We must, in totality, ensure compliance with the rule of law, not the rule of thumb. Judicial process must be respected as it is the only legitimate vehicle to regulate relationships among players in the democratic space and among Nigerians at large.”

He described democracy as rule-based, noting that Nigerian democracy will progress faster and good governance will be better delivered when democratic structures are allowed to function without unlawful interference.

“I felicitate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians at large. I task the political class to strive towards true federalism. Federating units must be strengthened within the context of more devolution of powers and resources.

“Nigeria must run truly as a federation where the tiers of government operate with clear regulations as provided by the constitution and moderated by the rule of law. This will fast-track development at all levels of governance.

“I urge Osun people to remain law-abiding, calm, and peaceful as the state government is deploying democratic tools to advance and protect the interests of the state within the federation and within the context of the rule of law. We must resist the temptation to take the law into our hands.

“On this occasion of the 65th Independence anniversary, I congratulate Nigerians, at home and abroad. We look forward to more national and subnational improvement as democratic governance progresses”, the governor noted.

APC lashes Adeleke over SIM cards to 20,000 civil servants

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated Governor Ademola Adeleke for distributing 20,000 Glo SIM to civil servants.

Adeleke on Wednesday launched Glo-Imole Connect to strengthen communication within the public service and enhance the ease with which Government businesses are carried out in Osun State.

But APC’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, faulted Adeleke, describing it as desperation to monitor workers who might be communicating with the APC reinstated local government officials.

He said: “There is no pranks under the sun that the Peoples Democratic Party-led state government has not played in order to illegally access the accumulated local government council allocations in the last seven months.”

APC claimed that Adeleke summoned workers, including the striking National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to Abere, for a crucial meeting only to give them a SIM card for the purpose of spying on them.

According to him: “The latest of sign of desperation on the part of Governor Adeleke over the delayed payment of the accumulated federal allocations for the local governments in the state is the inculcation of an espionage and spy exercise to monitor the activities of the workers.

“To this extent, the Adeleke-led government has opted for the option of monitoring through a centrally-coded means any likely conversations between the striking NULGE staff and the reinstated APC local government council chairmen and councillors, especially on the issue of the accumulated federal allocations.

“It is shameful that a government could go to this obnoxious length to devise a means through which it can be illegally intruding into the privacy of the innocent workers which is a gross violation of their fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It is a high time that Governor Adeleke and his ilk came to terms with the fact that they are fighting a lost battle on the issue of the federal allocations to the local government councils in the state as the council and other state workers are capable of thinking for themselves that the current PDP-run administration has nothing to offer them and the state.

“If not that the Adeleke administration lacks focus, how could a government that is truly worth its salt be inviting the NULGE staff on strike and other state workers for a mere collection of SIM cards? It is indeed disheartening and shameful.”

He added: “The people of Osun are tired of the lacklustre government of Adeleke and there is no backdoor tactics that can prevent the imminent defeat of the bumbling governor in the 2026 governorship election.”

He described the claim from a report as untrue, which is a calculated attempt by those afraid of his soaring acceptability to create confusion and uncertainty in the mind of the people.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said: “We want to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Governor Adeleke remains committed to the PDP and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any party for that matter.

Rasheed said Adeleke was well-positioned to win the 2026 governorship poll.

He said: “Those behind the latest round of misinformation are trying to latch on the huge goodwill Governor Adeleke enjoys among Osun people to sway support. The unsolicited endorsements of Governor Adeleke are rattling those afraid of the will of the people.

“We, therefore, urge the public to disregard any report linking Governor Adeleke with a defection move, as such is entirely false. • We await directives of govt — Kingmakers

    • Adeleke’s intervention will douse tension — Ruling house

The dethronement of Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, who was recently jailed in the United States of America (USA) by District Judge Christopher Boyko over $4.2 million in COVID-19 fraud, is imminent as Governor Ademola Adeleke described the development as ‘ugly’.

Oba Oloyede, who was arrested in May 2024 was later jailed alongside Pastor Edward Oluwasanmi in August 2025, causing ripples in his community, Ipetumodu, the headquarters of Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.

It will be recalled that there was a crisis in the town during the week as princes, chiefs, and kingmakers clashed at a meeting over a call to dethrone Oba Oloyede after he was sentenced to prison in the US.

The kingmakers led by Asalu, Chief Sunday Afolabi Adedeji opposed the call arguing that the state government was yet to obtain a Certified True Copy(CTC) or give any directives.

However, Governor Adeleke after State Executive Council meeting held on Friday night where he reviewed policies and happenings in the state, frowned at the development in Ipetumodu.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi read in part: “He (Adeleke) further instructed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to take action on the ugly development at Ipetumodu where the King was recently jailed in the United States of America.”

Reacting to the development, an heir to the throne, Prince Olaboye Ayoola from the Aribile Ruling House commended Governor Adeleke for his directive noting that it will douse the existing tension in the town.

He said: “Since the embattled monarch was jailed, there is tension in our community, but the directive of the Governor will ease it now. The kingmakers who were opposing his dethronement will heed to the directive now.”

He urged the governor to ensure that Aribile ruling house replaces Oloyede and not move to Fagbemokun because the embattled king did not die but was jailed.

Contacted, Chief Adedeji said: “We can’t do anything outside the directive of the Commissioner, we will be waiting for his directive.”
