    Aisha Buhari inaugurate youths in Kano

    The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has inaugurated Aisha Buhari Skills Acquisition Centre for women and youths aimed at eradicating drug and youth restiveness among the younger generation.

    Mrs Buhari who performed the inaugural ceremony in Kano, also presented certificates to 500 graduates who were trained on modern fish farming, paint making, shoe and bags making as well as leather works.

    The wife of the president, however, used the occasion to call on wealthy individuals in Nigeria to support the beneficiaries with start-up capital to enable them to earn a decent living.

    The centre, inaugurated under her pet project, the “Future Assured” initiative, will be charged with the responsibility of training women and youths in different skills acquisitions.

    She also said that the beneficiaries, who were part of the second batch of her skills acquisition, were trained in barbing and manicure.

    Mrs Buhari advised the graduands to utilise the skills acquired to set-up their businesses to enable them to be employers of labour, instead of being job seekers.

    In her speech, the wife of Kano State Governor, Dr. Hafsat Ganduje, expressed gratitude to Mrs Buhari for providing necessary support to women and youths in the state.

    Hafsat said that the wife of the president was in Kano to add value to the people of the state, a week after the official working visit of her husband President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.

    Mrs Ganduje, who recalled the similar gesture done to women of Kano state by Mrs Buhari in the last quarter of the year where 2,200 women were trained in different skills acquisition programme, prayed God to reward her.

    The wife of president inspected the exhibition of the materials and handiwork of the graduands.

    Earlier, Buhari visited the residence of late Danmasanin Kano, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Sule, to condole the family over the death of the first Republic politician

    Bauchi to distribute kits worth N1.5bn to women

    The Bauchi State Commission for Youths and Women Rehabilitation ( BACYWARD ) says it will distribute empowerment kits worth N1.5 billion to women in Small and Medium Scale businesses across the state.

    The commission Chairman, Mr Ahmed Faruq, made this known on Thursday during the graduation ceremony of 800 women and youths in skill acquisition programme in Bauchi.

    The programme was organised by the Future Assured Initiative for Youths and Women.

    Future Assured is the humanitarian pet project of Mrs Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari.

    The initiative has trained women and youths in various trades including Tie and Dye, Pastry making, Spaghetti and Couscous making among others for a duration of one week.

    Faruq said that the initiate was aimed at boosting the economic activities of women in such businesses.

    “The commission has received approval of the governor for partnership with Jaiz Bank under which more than N1.5 billion worth of empowerment kits will be distributed to women across 20 local government areas.

    “This is in realisation that 80 per cent of small businesses are carried out by women, and no economy will wax stronger without the active participation of small businesses,’’ he said.

    Faruq said that the commission has also registered 2,000 youths and women for the O/level examinations, while another 2,000 were sponsored into various diploma and computer programmes.

    In his remarks, Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi, lauded the efforts of wife of the President on empowerment of women.

    Abubakar said that the state government has designed numerous programmes for women and youths to be self-reliance.

    Aisha Buhari arrives Katsina to inaugurate maternity clinic

    The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday arrived Katsina State to inaugurate children and maternity clinic at the General Hospital, Daura.

    The children and maternity clinic was built and equipped by Buhari through her NGO, “Aisha Buhari Foundation’’, which also catered for the health needs of under-privileged families in the country.

    The aircraft conveying the wife of the president and her entourage landed at the Katsina International Airport at about 10 a.m.

    She was accompanied by the wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki, Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehenire, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Administration), Dr Hajo Sani.

    Others are the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Matters, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the former Deputy Governor of Plateau, Mrs Pauline Tallen, and wife of Benue Governor, Mrs Eunice Ortom, among others.

    The wife of the President was received at the airport by the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari and some members of the National Assembly led by Senate leader, Sen. Ahmed Lawal.

    During the visit, the wife of the President is expected to inaugurate and hand over the facility to the Katsina State Government as part of her contributions to the health and physical well being of women and children in the state.

    3,027 pregnant women live with HIV in Nigeria – NPHDA

    The National Primary Health care Development Agency (NPHDA) has disclosed that 3,027 out of 121,396 pregnant women were tested HIV positive during the first round of the Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH) Week.

    A representative of the Agency, Victoria Azodoh made this disclosure at the three day seminar on Reproductive, Maternal, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) for Wives of North Central Governors in Minna.

    She also said that 1,870 out of 129,838 women of child bearing age also tested positive to HIV.

    Victoria said that this statistics was gathered during the MNCH week nationwide.

    She also stated that 336,430 children were immunized, 29,265,569 children were given Vitamin A while 15,240676 children were dewormed across Nigeria.

    The Wife of the President of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari expressed dismay and alarm over the high rise of malnutrition and maternal and child mortality in the nation describing it as disheartening.

    Aisha Buhari who was represented by former deputy Governor of Plateau state, Chief Pauline Tallen said that the situation whereby the nation records 120 deaths per 1000 live birth is unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

    She urged wives of governors across the nation to find ground to address maternal and child mortality in their states and champion the commitment of Maternal, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in the states.

    “Your Excellencies, except every one of us takes responsibility and strategic action to address these issues in our immediate regions, they may remain unchanged and even grow worse. We believe that this workshop will equip you with the necessary tools to achieve your objectives of securing the future for women and children. ”

    The Wife of the Niger state Governor,  Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello said that wives of Governors across the nation have taken it as a moral cause to support the government in reducing the high rate if death caused by preventable and curable diseases.

    Applauding the Future Assured Initiative of the Aisha Buhari Foundation, she said that the vision of wives of the governors is to ensure that no woman does from pregnancy related causes and to create awareness and opportunity for women and girls to realize their full potential in an environment that is safe for pregnancy and childbirth.

    Another 257 Nigerians arrive from Libya

    A few hours after 144 Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya, another aircraft carrying 257 of their compatriots on Wednesday landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

    The spokesperson for the Lagos Airport Police Command, Mr Joseph Alabi, confirmed this in an interview in Lagos.

    Alabi said the returnees arrived aboard a Libyan Airlines aircraft at the Cargo Wing of the airport at about 1.30 a.m.

    He said they were assisted back to Nigeria by the International Organisation for Migration ( IOM ) and the European Union ( EU ) after being stranded in the volatile North African country enroute Europe.

    Alabi said “We received another batch of Nigerians early this morning from Libya.

    “They comprised of 65 adult females, 179 adult males, seven children and six infants.”

    He also confirmed that four of the returnees had medical cases and were promptly taken away on an ambulance for treatment.

    According to him, the returnees were received by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

    Report says another set of 144 Nigerians had arrived on Tuesday at about 6.45 p.m. aboard a chartered Buraq Airlines aircraft with registration number 5A-DMG.

    They were received at the Hajj Camp area of the airport by the Wife of the President, Haija Aisha Buhari, represented by the Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode.

    Also on ground to receive them was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa and officials of other government agencies.

    Report also says the Federal Government said it has a record of 2,778 Nigerian migrants registered in “accessible” detention camps in Libya, ready for repatriation.

    The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement signed by the Spokesperson, Mr. Tiwatope Elias-Fatile on Tuesday, said the country’s embassy in Libya had been visiting detention camps to identify Nigerians for registration.

    The ministry stated that those registered were issued Emergency Travel Certificates.

    The ministry also explained that the embassy, in collaboration with the IOM, repatriates 250 migrants weekly and had returned 3,000 of them so far.

    “From the 2,778 registered Nigerians who are still in detention camps, another set of 250 Nigerian migrants will be arriving on Tuesday December 5 via the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, at 7.00pm, to be received by NEMA officials.

    “The Embassy, in collaboration with the IOM, repatriates 250 Nigerian migrants by flight to Lagos weekly – each flight can accommodate only 250 passengers.

    “The repatriation is a continuous exercise and the Embassy routinely issues the requisite travel documents to the migrants.

    “The Embassy will continue to engage the legitimate government in Libya and other stakeholders in addressing the plight of Nigerian migrants in that country.”

    The ministry further said the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, had invited the Nigerian Embassy’s Head of Mission, Mr. Iliya Fachano, to Abuja for consultations.

    “He is in Abuja already and during the period of the consultations, arrangements have been made for him to address press conferences on the issue.

    Aisha Buhari urges regular de-worming of children

    The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has urged parents in the country to de-worm their children regularly to ensure healthy life for the next generation.

    She made the call at Babasidi Primary School, Bauchi, at a de-worming programme,
    her Director of Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna, said in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

    Haruna stated that the president’s wife, represented at the event by Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the Zonal Coordinator of her Future Assured Programme in the North East, said worms could lead to malabsorption of nutrients and could affect pupils’ performance and cognitive development.

    She added that medical experts had identified deworming of children as major determinant of growth and development.

    She noted that intestinal worms were neglected by most parents in Nigeria, as such, it became a health challenge which must be tackled by relevant stakeholders.

    Apart from deworming of more than 2000 pupils at Babasidi and Shadawanka primary schools in Bauchi metropolis courtesy of Aisha’s Future Assured Programme,
    more than 3000 men and women were screened on different ailments ranging from blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as well as eye test.

    The programme was conducted at Bauchi State Specialist Hospital, where some patients were tested for vital signs and were prescribed drugs, while others were referred to Specialist Hospital for further examination.

    The exercise drew doctors, nurses, matrons, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and health information managers.

    It was jointly organised by the Future Assured Programme of Mrs Buhari and
    Cry for Help, an International NGO and Wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar.

    A statement issued on Sunday by Suleiman Haruna, Director of Information to Wife of the President, said that Mrs. Buhari was represented at the event by Mrs. Gimbiya Dogara, wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

    In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Buhari said her passion for improving the lives of women and children is the reason she organizes medical outreach programmes, skill acquisition sessions, women empowerment programmes as well as advocacy for the rights of women and the girl child.

    Speaking on the reason for the summit, Mr. Lahlou said it is meant to establish Nigeria-Morocco Business Women Forum in order to strengthen business relationship between women of the two countries.

    The summit provided an opportunity to connect, share, collaborate and make plans on how to invest, grow, and develop women’s businesses both in small and large scale.

    An exhibition was held to display products from Nigeria and Morocco.

    At the event were wives of governors, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Hajo Sani and Director-General, National Center for Women Development, Barrister Mary Etta.

    Gombe citizens tackle Goje for embarrassing Buhari’s family

    The Concerned Citizen of Gombe have apologised to the wife of the President and her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari over the embarrassment she encountered during her condolence visit to Gombe state.

    The President’s wife, Aisha Buhari had on Wednesday visited Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje over the demise of his wife Yelwa who passed on in the United States on November 9, 2017.

    Senator Goje at the occasion claimed on the contrary that since he was sworn in as Governor in 2011, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has never visited him despite deaths and other calamities that had befallen his family, even though his late wife was instrumental to the governor’s candidature.

    The Concerned Citizens said it was not the first time Goje is embarrassing the president’s family, recalling that while a CPC Presidential candidate in 2006, Goje who was then governing Gombe state on PDP platform prevented Buhari from landing at Gombe Airport by blocking the runway of under the guise of maintenance work.

    “Secondly, he (Goje) ordered the complete sealing of Pantami Stadium and spread the vicinity with latrite to prevent vehicular movements around the stadium on the scheduled day of Buhari’s campaign team arrival.

    “Thirdly, on the day Buhari was to arrive Gombe for his campaign tour, some hired thugs were positioned directly opposite the PDP Presidential campaign office along Bauchi road to stone the office immediately Buhari’s convoy arrived to portray that the office was vandalised by Buhari supporters.

    “This made Buhari believe that the destruction of PDP campaign office was caused by his supporters and he tendered an apology,” the Concerned Citizens recalled through their spokesman, AIG Abdulmumini Abubakar (rtd).

    While speaking of how Goje ended up marrying the wife of his benefactor, late Ibrahim Hassan, the group also recalled how the Senator denied Abubakar Atku the use of Gombe airport during his 2007 presidential campaign tour, despite the former Vice President’s contribution to his becoming the governor of Gombe sate in 2003.

    The Group described the acclaimed late Yelwa Goje’s approval Dankwambo’s candidate during the preparations for 2011 election as distasteful, questioning how and positing that Gombe has some explaining to do.

    The AIG Abdulmumini (rtd) led group commended Governor Dankwambo’s handling of the matter and explained that they found it expedient to react in order not to allow silence give credence to the false claims.

    Buhari’s wife arrives in Gombe, condoles Sen. Goje’s family

    Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, on Friday arrived in Gombe on a condolence visit to the family of Sen. Danjuma Goje whose wife died last week in the U.S.

    She arrived through the Lawanti Airport, Gombe, where she was received by Gov. Ibrahim Dnkwambo, his wife Adama Dankwambo, and other dignitaries.

    The wife of the president, who was accompanied by wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar and former Plateau Deputy Governor, Mrs Pouline Talen, proceeded to the senator’s residence and offered condolences to the family over the demise of his wife, Hajiya Yelwa.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yelwa died in United States after a protracted illness and had been buried in Gombe on Thursday.
