He hailed the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, describing him as a true son of the soil, who had brought his invaluable experience to bear on the information management of the state.

Aiyedatiwa said Ifon traditional stool was receiving attention, adding that government would follow laid down order to ensure fairness and justice for the ruling houses.

…selection of new Olufon of Ifon will follow due process.’

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed that the security of lives and property of the people remains a top priority of his administration under the OUR EASE agenda.

Aiyedatiwa, who gave the assurance on Wednesday during the third day of his statewide ‘Thank-You’ tour of Ose, Owo, and Akure North Local Government Areas of the state.

The governor said his administration was ready to weed out and tackle head-long activities of banditry and other criminal elements terrorising the boundary communities of the state.

According to him, the establishment of an Amotekun Rangers camp and the deployment of operatives have significantly reduced criminal activities in the affected areas, enabling farmers and traders to go about their businesses without fear.

He added that security agencies remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property.

“We will not leave you alone and allow something bad to happen to you,” the governor said.

He noted that improved security has restored public confidence and strengthened the relationship between the government and the people.

Beyond security, Aiyedatiwa explained that the seven-day tour covering all 18 local government areas was designed to take governance to the grassroots, appreciate citizens for their support, and highlight projects already executed or ongoing across the state.

He also noted that while quarterly stakeholders’ meetings held in Akure usually involve about 60 leaders from each local government, many grassroots residents are unable to participate.

The ‘Thank-You’ tour, he said, provides a platform for direct interaction, bonding, and information-sharing on government activities at the local level.

With Christmas less than nine days away, the governor said the tour also served as an opportunity to extend goodwill to residents through the distribution of palliatives.

He further assured the people of Ose Local Government that the issue of bad roads in the area would be addressed.

Speaking on the prolonged dispute over the Olufon of Ifon stool, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the traditional stool as highly significant and expressed concern over the delay in resolving the matter.

He recalled that the issue was first presented to his office during his tenure as deputy governor and that several stakeholders’ meetings had since been held.

The governor stressed that his administration would not impose a monarch on the people, insisting that due process must be followed in line with the 1969 chieftaincy declaration.

He assured that once a candidate is duly selected, the government would present the staff of office.

He also highlighted improvements in electricity supply, the provision of school shuttle buses and other social interventions, attributing them to the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said have strengthened the state’s capacity to deliver projects.

At Owo, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his personal connection to the town, recalling that the late former Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had chosen him as deputy governor.

He noted that Owo recorded the highest number of votes in the last election, describing the support as a responsibility his administration would continue to honour through responsive and people-oriented governance.

Meanwhile, at Iju/Ita-Ogbolu, the headquarters of Akure North Local Government Area, the Governor, represented by his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, lauded the party members for their strong turnout and continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.

He urged them to sustain the support to ensure the party’s continued success, including the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu beyond 2027.

Aiyedatiwa congratulated party members on the yuletide season, announcing that Christmas gifts had been provided for all APC members, with clear instructions that every member must benefit from the gesture.

Aiyedatiwa lauds AAUA’s role in human capital development as 5,799 graduate

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), for its significant contributions to intellectual growth and human capital development within the state and beyond.

The governor, who is the visitor to the university, made the commendation at the institution’s 14th Convocation Ceremony held at the weekend, where a total of 5,799 students graduated.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the management for successfully steering the university through challenging times and pledged that his administration would look into its funding challenges.

He charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the university and Ondo State, urging them to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and service.

In his address, the pro-chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Tunji Abayomi, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining and elevating the institution’s status within the global academic community.

Dr Abayomi said AAUA possesses the capacity to become Nigeria’s leading citadel of knowledge and research, and among the best globally, if adequately funded.

He therefore made a case for an annual subvention of ₦12 billion to enable the university realise its lofty aspirations.

He noted that the council had provided quality oversight and worked closely with the Senate to introduce innovative strategies aimed at ensuring continuous growth and holistic development.

“Our aspiration to place the university on the global map demands the cooperation and support of all stakeholders. We have recommitted ourselves to the vision of our founding fathers in pursuit of academic excellence,” Abayomi said.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige said the university had recorded tremendous progress under his five-year stewardship, maintaining its status as a leading centre of research and learning.

He announced automatic employment for the First Class graduates after the completion of their National Youth Service, while urging all graduands to exemplify the values and discipline instilled in them by the institution.

“Learning is a lifelong journey that requires discipline, perseverance and vision. Carry the spirit and values of Adekunle Ajasin University wherever life leads you. Be ambassadors of integrity, diligence and service,” he said.

Prof. Ige also revealed that nine AAUA scholars were listed in the prestigious Elsevier–Stanford Global Ranking for 2024, describing the feat as a testament to the institution’s growing research influence.

On infrastructure, he said the university completed new Faculty of Science and Faculty of Social Sciences buildings, renovated several academic facilities and upgraded its Business School in Akure, despite financial constraints.

As his tenure winds down in the second half of next year, Prof. Ige expressed gratitude to the Visitor, staff, students and unions for their support and cooperation.

“I bow out with profound gratitude, having together weathered storms, celebrated victories and upheld the vision of our founding fathers,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the graduands, the Overall Best Graduating Student, Folake Racheal Omonitan of the Department of Biochemistry, who graduated with a CGPA of 4.79, attributed her success to focus and determination.

  • Aiyedatiwa’s aide, APC group leader clash over control of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Ondo

Aiyedatiwa’s aide, APC group leader clash over control of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Ondo

A fresh disagreement has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, as a senior aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, clashed with a prominent party chieftain Otunba Agboola Kelly over control of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign in the state.

The dispute highlighted growing internal tensions within the party, as key blocs and support groups vie for influence ahead of the next general election.

The clash followed a stakeholders’ meeting in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, where Prof. Odimayo and other APC leaders insisted that Governor Aiyedatiwa, as the constitutionally recognised state leader, should automatically head Tinubu’s reelection campaign in Ondo once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifts the ban on campaign activities.

“We want President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make it a matter of compulsion that Governor Aiyedatiwa leads his campaign in Ondo State in the 2027 general elections. We cannot afford to have two leaders in our state, as the governor is the leader of the party. This is what we want in our state during the 2027 general elections,” Odimayo stated, citing resolutions from the meeting.

However, on Saturday, Otunba Kelly, state coordinator of the APC Elders Movement for Tinubu, responded by warning party members against making “provocative statements” that could cause internal friction.

Kelly described Prof. Odimayo as “overzealous,” accusing him of political overreach and attempting to create a crisis to serve personal interests.

“What Simidele Odimayo and his co-travellers are doing is clear – they want to curry favour in Abuja by manufacturing a crisis that does not exist. Their personal ambitions must not be allowed to overheat the polity or sow seeds of disaffection.”

Kelly stressed that Tinubu’s reelection effort is a national project, and independent support groups do not require approval from any individual before mobilising for the President.

He likened the situation to the 2024 Ondo governorship race, where dozens of groups campaigned for Aiyedatiwa without undermining him:

“Just as we had LACO, Friends of Lucky, Aiyedatiwa Vanguard, Youths for Lucky, Women for Aiyedatiwa, and many others during the 2024 election, the same will happen in 2027. These groups will only complement the official campaign structure coordinated by the governor.”

He warned Odimayo and his allies to desist from comments that might threaten the fragile peace within the party.

“The peace and unity currently enjoyed in Ondo APC were hard-won. We will not watch selfish individuals import crisis where none exists,” Kelly added.

He further alleged that the attempt to insist on a “sole leadership structure” for Governor Aiyedatiwa is a reaction to the growing influence of independent support groups allegedly backed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO).

“The truth is that the groups sponsored by the Honourable Minister are doing very well across the state. They are projecting Mr. President more aggressively, more visibly, and more effectively than anyone else. The move by Odimayo is simply a response to Tunji-Ojo’s rising influence.”

In a swift reaction, Prof. Odimayo faulted Kelly’s interpretation of the stakeholders meeting, insisting his comments were taken out of context.

According to him, it would be illogical to ask President Tinubu to appoint Aiyedatiwa as campaign leader when the governor is already the automatic leader of the party in the state:

“There is a misrepresentation. I cannot be saying Tinubu should make Aiyedatiwa the campaign leader. He is already the leader of the party in the state by virtue of being governor – just as the President (Tinubu), the party leader at the federal level,” he said.

Odimayo, however, argued that the governor’s popularity and performance naturally make him the rallying point for Tinubu’s 2027 bid.

He maintained that independent support groups exist because of the governor’s performance and do not pose a threat.

“Aiyedatiwa won in all 18 local governments – an unprecedented feat in Ondo State. People love him. Carrying him along will give better votes for President Tinubu in 2027.”

“Every other person campaigning is doing so because Aiyedatiwa is performing. They feel their efforts can help the governor, too,” the governor’s aide added.

Aiyedatiwa hails volunteerism as key to Tinubu’s economic agenda, national development

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has described volunteerism as a vital pillar for advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic growth agenda and achieving sustainable national development.

He made the remarks during the 2025 International Volunteer Day celebration held over the weekend at the International Event Centre, The Dome, Akure.

The event, themed “Every Contribution Matters,” brought together government officials, civil society organisations, youth groups, and development partners.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Volunteer Service and State Coordinator of the Nigerian National Volunteer Service, Comrade Adeolu Charles Iwakun, the governor emphasised that Nigeria’s development challenges require greater citizen engagement through community service, civic responsibility, and skill-based voluntary initiatives.

He noted that countries with strong development models rely on structured volunteerism to strengthen social systems, bridge manpower gaps, and support key sectors such as environmental management, community health, and emergency response.

“Volunteerism is a passion that has shaped my journey, and being entrusted with this mandate is an honour I hold dearly. Volunteerism – in all its forms, whether community participation, humanitarian support, donations, corporate social responsibility, problem-solving initiatives, or simply offering one’s skills – remains a powerful pillar for sustainable and accelerated development.

“Every act of service counts, and I encourage us all to continue showing up for our communities in whichever way we can. Today marks the formal launch of the Ondo State Volunteer Service, a platform designed to coordinate, nurture, and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism across our state,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He commended youths, community groups, and civil society organisations for their continued contributions to nation-building, noting that his administration has been partnering with community health volunteers, climate-action groups, agricultural extension volunteers, and disaster-response teams.

The governor further called on governments at all levels, as well as the private sector, to support volunteer-driven initiatives through partnerships, grants, and capacity-building programmes capable of deepening the impact of voluntary service and aligning it with national development plans.

Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Dr Tunji Rhema, highlighted recent successes recorded in community-led sanitation exercises across Akure, Ondo, and Owo.

Rhema said volunteers, local businesses, and civil society groups collaborated with government agencies to clear drains, plant trees, and educate residents on proper waste disposal.

He urged citizens, corporate bodies, and traditional institutions to intensify collaboration on sanitation campaigns, recycling, tree planting, and other environmental initiatives that promote cleaner and healthier communities.

“These seemingly small efforts prevented flooding, improved air quality, reduced disease outbreaks, and restored dignity to public spaces. Volunteerism is not just an activity; it is a vital engine for community transformation,” Rhema stated.

In his keynote address, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Lanre Issa-Onilu represented by the agency’s South-West Zonal Director, Mrs Olufunke Salako harped on the need for volunteerism to move beyond sentiment and become a structured component of national policy.

Issa-Onilu also stressed the urgency of citizen-driven problem solving in a period of economic pressure and social strain, noting that earlier in the year youth groups and local organisations led civic actions such as clearing blocked drains, cleaning streets, and educating residents on hygiene.

“The nation is not defined solely by its government but by the active participation of its people. Volunteerism is one of the purest forms of civic engagement. It reflects the readiness to contribute, to sacrifice, to belong, and to live without title.

“When citizens become active participants in their communities, trust is restored, development is accelerated, and peace is sustained. But citizens’ engagement does not happen in a vacuum – it must be nurtured,” he said.

He commended youth groups and community organisations for sustaining civic actions despite economic and social challenges.

The Nation report that the highlight of the event was the donation of a volunteer hub to the Ondo State Government by Elder Isaac Tapire, Chairman of Tisco Industries Limited. The facility is expected to serve as a central point for volunteer coordination, training, civic education, and community engagement programmes.

Awards were also presented to Governor Aiyedatiwa; the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniran; the Founder, Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), late Prophet T. B. Joshua and Mrs Evelyn Joshua.

Others include the Chairman, Tisco Industries Limited, Elder Isaac Tapire; Proprietress, Mummy’s Place International Schools, Dr Damilola Oshin; Chief Medical Director, Sckye Hospital, Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese; Registrar, Elizade University, Mr Omololu Adegbenro; and NYSC member, Mary James.

He listed others to include power interventions around industrial zones, digitised government operations, and a streamlined one-stop investment window through the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).

The governor described the rapid rise of the Johnvents Group – now operating across three continents – as clear evidence that Ondo State has become a viable hub for world-class enterprises.

He cited the conglomerate’s more than ten factories, 1,500-member workforce, thousands of benefiting households, upwards of 5,000 engaged farmers and support for over 10,000 young people as “real-world outcomes” of the state’s economic transformation agenda.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reiterated that security governance is a collective responsibility, describing it as “a continuous journey” requiring active citizen participation and consistent government backing.

Aiyedatiwa stated this on Monday while commissioning the newly completed headquarters office of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) at Alagbaka in Akure.

The governor said that the new facilities, which house the command and control Centre with a modern training auditorium, would significantly enhance the corps’ operational efficiency, intelligence coordination, and tactical readiness.

He lauded the leadership of the Amotekun Corps under its commander, Adetunji Adeleye, for the dedication and sacrifice that ensured the timely completion of the command and control centre, assuring that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support.

He noted that the prompt release of funds for the facility reflects his administration’s commitment to the professional development and welfare of Amotekun personnel.

The governor also paid tribute to the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader whose courage led to the establishment of the Amotekun Corps in partnership with his South-West counterparts.

Earlier, the commander of the Amotekun Corps said that the local security outfit remains determined to strengthen security across the state.

Adeleye noted that Amotekun’s evolution since 2020 proves that locally driven security frameworks, reinforced by political will, can effectively counter emerging threats, hailing Akeredolu as the architect of the South-West security renaissance.

Adeleye attributed the Corps’ success to a founding policy rooted in operational strength, rapid response and community-based intelligence.

He also applauded Aiyedatiwa for sustaining and expanding support through improved logistics, welfare initiatives, enhanced training and institutional backing, which he said have boosted operations in all 18 local government areas and elevated personnel morale.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has called on Nigerians to appreciate and celebrate the bravery and resilience of military personnel confronting bandits, insurgents, and other violent criminal groups across the country.

Aiyedatiwa said recent interventions by troops, whom he described as “true patriots”, have prevented greater tragedies, including the recent attacks on schools in Kebbi and Kwara states. He noted that soldiers continue to risk their lives daily to protect the nation and maintain internal stability.

The governor made the appeal at the weekend while receiving the 46th Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdulahi Mustapha, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Akure, the state capital.

He commended the military for its courage despite operating in difficult terrains and with limited resources, adding that Nigerian troops have remained unwavering in the fight against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other violent groups that threaten communities across the federation.

Aiyedatiwa further stated that the relative peace currently enjoyed in Ondo State is the result of sustained collaboration among the government, the military, the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, forest guards and various volunteer security groups.

“Security is now a shared responsibility that requires continued cooperation and vigilance,” he said.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the recruitment of 500 new personnel into the State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture amid rising national security challenges.

The governor announced the approval on Friday during the inauguration of a new cohort of Justices of the Peace (JPs) held in Akure, the state capital.

Aiyedatiwa explained that after nearly 17 years of inactivity, his administration decided to revive the office of the JPs to give citizens a more active role in local justice delivery.

The Nation reports that a total of 130 appointees, drawn from various sectors, were sworn in to reflect the diversity and inclusiveness central to his grassroots justice reform agenda.

Describing the ceremony as a turning point in reinforcing justice at the grassroots, the governor said the initiative aligns with the “Order, Security and the Rule of Law” pillar of his administration’s OUR EASE agenda.

Aiyedatiwa urged the new JPs to help enhance security, peace, and justice in their communities, reminding them that the office is a “sacred responsibility” requiring integrity, wisdom, and fairness.

He also highlighted ongoing judicial reforms in the state, including the recruitment of additional state counsels, expansion of the judiciary, and the near completion of a new Judiciary Complex featuring a ceremonial court, modular courts, and a library intended to fast-track justice delivery.

In his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, traced the origin of the JP institution to 14th-century England and its evolution in Nigeria during the colonial era.

He noted that Ondo state last appointed JPs in 2008, describing the office as a crucial link between government and the people.

Ajulo added that the new appointees were selected based on merit, moral standing, humility, and commitment to peace.

The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, represented by Justice Akintan Osadebe, administered the oath of office and outlined the statutory duties of JPs.

He described the office as both legal and quasi-judicial, detailing responsibilities that include mediating disputes, maintaining public order, administering oaths, visiting detention facilities, inspecting conditions, handling detainees’ complaints, certifying documents, and supporting official processes such as visa and passport applications.

Justice Odusola further charged the appointees to contribute to local policing, mentor youth groups, advise community leaders, and help prevent disputes before they escalate.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Bashorun ’Seinde Arogbofa expressed gratitude to the state government, acknowledging the significance of their roles in promoting justice and peace.

He pledged the commitment of the new JPs to advancing grassroots engagement and supporting the judiciary while also calling for inclusivity, especially recognising contributions from rural communities.

Prominent individuals inaugurated as JPs include the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji; top traditional rulers such as the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; and the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo.
