  • Bagudu wins in 10 Kebbi councils

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of All Progressives Congress (APC) has won in 10 local government areas of Kebbi State in the governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

    Prof. Haruna Bichi, the Collation Officer for the election announced in Kebbi on Sunday that APC scored 30,720, while Isa Galaudu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 4,526 votes in Gwandu LGA.

    He said in Birinin Kebbi LGA, APC also scored 79,092 while PDP polled 6,019 votes.

    In Argungu LGA, APC scored 30,101 while PDP pulled 23,397 votes, while in Shangal LGA, APC scored 27,012 and PDP polled 3,506 votes.

    Also in Aliero LGA, APC scored 21,923 against PDP’s 3,479, while in Suru LGA, APC scored 39,359 and PDP scored 5,198 votes.

    In Kargo LGA, APC got 21,899 while PDP scored 805 votes and in Augie LGA, APC scored 28,479 and PDP polled 11,875 votes.

    In Bunza LGA, APC scored 23,980, while PDP scored 2,114 votes. And in Dandy LGA, APC scored 33,315 while PDP pulled 5,921votes.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there are 21 LGAs in Kebbi, as collation is still in progress as at the time of filling this report.

  • Ekere loses local govt as INEC cancels elections in his ward

    The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obong Nsima Ekere has lost his local government, Ikot Abasi to his opponent, Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    Emmanuel scored a total of 9,335 votes to beat Ekere who polled 7,549 out of 17,469 total votes cast in the election.

    The collation officer for Ikot Abasi, Dr. Edwin Nssien disclosed that elections in Unit 004,Ward 1 in Edemaya clan which is Ekere’s polling unit was cancelled.

    Elections were also cancelled in three other wards 2, 3 and 4 all in Edemaya clan.

    Dr. Nssien attributed the cancellation to electoral malpractices including hijack of election materials.

    However, the APC agent for the governorship election, Archbishop Samuel Akpan rejected the result announced saying it does not a true reflection of the exercise which took place in Ikot Abasi on Saturday.

    Akpan also accused the collation officer for Ikot Abasi, Dr. Edwin Nssien of being a card carrying member of the PDP on a mission to work for the success of the PDP in Ekere’s local government.

  • APC retains two Lagos assembly seats in Kosofe LG

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of the two house of assembly constituencies in Kosofe area of Lagos State.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the results were declared at the INEC Collation Centre in Anglican Primary School, Ogudu.

    The Returning Officer for Kosofe Constituency 1, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, from the University of Lagos, said that Ganiyu Okanlawon emerged winner with 12, 834 votes, defeating his closest rival, Moyosore Ogunlewe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 7,684 votes.

    “I, Ayodeji Olukoju, a Distinguished Professor of the University of Lagos, hereby certify that I was the Returning Officer for the Kosofe 1 Constituency House of Assembly election held on March 9, 2019.

    “I declare that the election was contested. I, therefore, declare that Ganiyu Okanlawon of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he said.

    Also, Mr Olatunde Braimon was declared the winner of Constituency 11, with 29,385 votes to beat his closest rival, Mr Oluote Karma of the PDP who scored 7,156 votes.

    The Returning Officer, Dr Oluwakemi Adekile of the University of Lagos, announced the Kosofe Constituency 2 result.

    Adekile said, “That Olatunde Braimon of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

  • APC wins 2 House of Assembly seats in Badagry

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the two Lagos State House of Assembly seats of Saturday’s elections in Badagry.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that David Setonji, the incumbent APC legislator, was declared winner of the Badagry Constituency 2, while Ibrahim Layode also of APC was re-elected for the Badagry Constituency 1.

    Declaring the election results at the INEC Collation Centre in Ibereko, the Returning Officer for Badagry Constituency 1, Mrs Bosede Abiodun, announced that Setonji polled 14,533 votes to beat PDP’s Alani Ajose who scored 5,209 votes.

    The returning officer also announced that ABP scored 101; AD 400; ADC 107; ADP 131, while DPP netted 16 votes.

    He said that the total votes cast were 21,801 and that rejected votes were 1,179, while 20,622 valid votes were recorded.

    “David Setonji of the APC having satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 14,533votes,” she said.

    Also, Mr Kareem Bestoyin, Dept. of Social Science, University of Lagos and the Returning Officer of Badagry Constituency 1, declared Ibrahim Layode of APC as winner.

    Bestoyin said that a total of 20,854 votes were cast with 1,534 votes rejected, while valid votes were 19,320.

    He said that Layode polled 12,098 votes, followed by Gbenga Fayemi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 3,030 votes.

    The returning officer also said A scored 8 votes; AD 228; ADC 527; ADP 151, while DA scored 9 votes,

    Bestoyin declared Layode of the APC winner having satisfied the requirements of law and scored the highest number of votes.

    “Ibrahim Layode of theAPC having satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 12,098 votes,” he said. (NAN)

  • Desmond Elliot wins Surulere l Lagos State Assembly poll

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Nollywood star, Desmond Elliot, candidate of the All Progressives  Congress (APC), as winner of the Surulere1 state Constituency election in Lagos State.

    The State Constituency Returning Officer, Dr Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi from the University of Lagos, made the declaration on Sunday, at the Surulere Local Government Collation Centre in Lagos.

    She said tnat Elliot emerged winner with 15,357 votes, while  Mr Benjamin Olasunkanmi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 3,628 votes.

    She declared : ”That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected. ”

    According to her, Mr Shitta-Bey Oluwarotimi of Alliance for Democracy (AD) came third with 116 votes, Mr Dawodu Oluwaseyi of  Accord Party came fourth with 65 votes while Mr Makanjuola Olaseni of YP came fifth with 59 votes.

    Dixon-Ogbechi stated that the total number of registered voters in the constituency was 134939, accredited voters was 20340, valid votes – 19357 while the total number of rejected votes was 973.

    “The total number of votes cast is 20330 while the results of six units at Igbaja/ Stadium with RA number 06 were cancelled. They were cancelled due to the issues of over voting.

    ” So, the total number of votes cancelled in the affected areas were
    4091, “she said.(NAN)

  • INEC declares APC candidate winner of Ijebu-Ode constituency

    Mr Kemi Oduwole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Ijebu-Ode State Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly elections of March 9.

    Declaring the results of the election on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Dr Oluseye Onabanjo, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Returning Officer said Oduwole satisfied all requirements of the law.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oduwole, with 10,180 votes, defeated his closest rival from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Azeez Ogedengbe who polled 8,152 votes.

    Former House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Tola Banjo of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) came third with 4,283 votes.
    Oduwole would be replacing incumbent, Hon. Wale Alausa of the PDP.

    “Oduwole Kemi Olaitan of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scoring the highest votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Onabanjo said.

    The total number of votes cast by the electorate from 11 wards in Ijebu-Ode was 27,166, number of total valid votes was 26,006 while 1,160 votes were recorded as void.

    The total number of registered voters in Ijebu-Ode is 79,841. However, only 27,243  voters were accredited for the polls.

  • APC candidates win Somolu I, II State Assembly seats

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared Mr Rotimi Olowo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of Somolu 1, Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

    Prof. Adebayo Otitoloju, the Returning Officer for the constituency, made the declaration at INEC Collation Centre in Somolu, Lagos on Sunday.

    Otitoloju said that Olowo secured 16, 007 votes to beat his closest opponent, Mr Olawale Akanni of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 2,651 votes.

    According to him, 18 political parties contested for the Somolu 1 Constituency seat.

    Otitoloju said, “I Prof. Adebayo Otitoloju, hereby certify: that I am the returning officer for the State House of Assembly Somolu 1 Constituency election held on the 9th day of March 2019, that the election was contested.

    “That Olowo Rotimi of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

    Also, at the Somolu II Constituency, Mr Abiru Rotimi of APC emerged the winner with 23,444 votes.

    The Returning Officer, Dr Idowu Taiwo said Abiru beat Mr Babatunde Aleshinloye-Williams of the PDP who had 7,221 votes.

    Taiwo said 17 others also participated in the election.

    He said: “I Dr Idowu Taiwo Adebayo, hereby certify: that I am the returning officer for the State House of Assembly, Somolu 2 Constituency election held on the 9th day of March 2019, that the election was contested.

    “That Abiru Rotimi Lateef of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, has scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.” (NAN)

  • Gombe Assembly elections: APC wins Deba constituency

    The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Mohammed Sa’idu has been declared winner of Deba constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

    Dr Mukhtar Baba, the INEC Returning Officer who announced the result in Deba on Sunday, said Sa’idu scored 19,957 to defeat his closest rival Lano Salihu of the People Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 9,526 votes.

    He said that the election recorded 31,999 total vote cast, 1,495 rejected votes and 30,504 total valid votes.

  • One killed at APC candidate’s home

    One person has been reportedly shot dead at Umuida, Igboeze North Local Council, home of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ayogu Eze.

    Eye witness said the victim was hit by a stray bullet fired by the policemen who were trying to scare away an angry mob who were about lynching suspected thugs who stormed the polling station.

    Trouble started when the thugs who posed as reporters came around and demanded to see the APC candidate for an interview.

    But they failed to produce the identity cards when asked to identify themselves.

    The crowd that gathered grew suspicious and descended on them.

    In the ensuing chaos, the policemen around the area started shooting into the air following which a stray bullet hit one of them.

    The police in Enugu said they were yet to receive the report as at the time of filing this report.

    However, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Suleiman Balarabe, in a terse text message, said there was no casualty at Umuida. He wrote: “Nobody is killed please.”

    Meanwhile, the governorship and House of Assembly elections took off as scheduled by INEC in all parts of Enugu State with an early turnout of voters.

    In most areas visited INEC officials and materials were already at voting centres just as voters trooped into polling units.

    Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, contesting for reelection, was at his polling booth, Amaube ward 1and 2, Orba, where he cast his vote at exactly 9.35am.

    Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, had called the bluff of APC leadership in the state which protested on Thursday, calling for postponement of the exercise.

    APC was, however, a lone voice as 70 other political parties in the state passed a vote of confidence on the REC and urged INEC to go ahead with the exercise.

    The REC who assured parties of a free and fair exercise in the state said he will not be intimidated, saying the exercise would go on as planned.

  • Lagos: Sanwo-Olu sweeps polling unit

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State yesterday won the elections at his Lateef Jakande/Femi Okunnu Ward 019 polling unit in Ikoyi, Lagos, by a landslide.

    Sanwo-Olu scored 124 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Jimi Agbaje, who scored 26 votes.

    Also, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has delivered his polling unit to his party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in the governorship election held yesterday.

    The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) got two votes and the Young Progressive Party (YPP) got one vote.

    The APC also won the House of Assembly polls for the Eti-Osa Constituency II.

    Incumbent Gbolahan Yishawu, who has represented the constituency since 2011, defeated the PDP by 140 votes to 30.

    Only 157 voters were accredited for the exercise out of 1100 registered voters, while four votes were voided.

    Earlier, Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence about winning the 2019 gubernatorial elections.

    Speaking after casting his vote at about 10:35am alongside his wife, Ibijoke, he suggested that there was a “divine” influence over his candidacy.

    He noted that he and his team had toured the nooks and crannies of the state, connecting with Lagosians.

    Sanwo-Olu said: “Today makes it exactly six months – it was on the ninth of September – since I collected the APC gubernatorial form, so I think it is divine.

    “We are very, very confident, extremely confident with the level of work we’ve done, the level of engagement we’ve seen, with the level of interaction we’ve had, that we will be successful and we’ll come out tops, but that is for INEC to determine and to announce.”

    The APC candidate also thanked INEC for resolving the issue of a malfunctioning card reader.

    The All Progressives Congress, APC, also scored the highest vote in the House of Assembly election jointly held with the governorship election yesterday.

    According to result announced at the polling unit 033, Ward A5, Ogunmodede College, Papa Epe polling centre after the counting of vote, APC polled 262, while PDP polled 62. For the House of Assembly election, APC polled 253, while PDP polled 61.

    Ambode who had earlier cast his vote at about 10.00am commended all Lagosians for deciding to promote the real tenet of democracy by performing their civic obligation of coming out to vote in yesterday’s governorship and house of assembly election.

    Commencement of voting was delayed when one of the two card readers provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) malfunctioned.

    “The malfunctioning card reader is booting, but refuses to start,” an INEC official told The Nation.

    But a technician soon arrived to fix the machine and voting commenced at 09:49am.
