He chided the Ayo Fayose-led administration for abandoning agriculture and deceiving the people with stomach infrastructure which, according to him, has further unleashed hunger on the state.

Akinyemi said Fayose’s stomach infrastructure has failed the people with civil servants being owed arrears of five months, adding that local businesses have been killed with ‘outrageous’ taxes and harsh economic policies.

He said: “It is apparent that Fayose’s stomach infrastructure has failed our people. It was a gimmick used to deceive the electorate. But, we can give our people through investment in agriculture.

“This will ensure food security, provide more employment opportunities by taking our youths off the streets and also generate revenue into the coffers of our state. “

The aspirant, a farmer and investor said the sector can employ not less than 50 per cent of the population in the state.

He promised to establish a youth commercial agriculture scheme in all the 16 local government areas to produce cocoa, plantain, cassava, timber, in large quantity for local consumption and foreign exchange.

Apart from agriculture, Akinyemi promised to make micro-credit loans available to small scale traders, young school leavers, women groups and artisans to own and grow their businesses.

He described the APC as the only party that has the interest of Ekiti at heart, expressing the confidence to win its ticket and the governorship at the 2018 polls.

  • Looters behind Buhari’s rumoured death-APC chieftain

Worluh who was speaking yesterday as a guest speaker at the two-day submmit organised by the  Ikwerre Youths Movement (IYM) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, said until Nigerians show a great  willingess  to support the  fight against corruption, treasury looters will continue to openly celebrate.

  • How to halt corruption, by APC chieftain

How to halt corruption, by APC chieftain

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Pa Remi Williams has urged Nigerians to shun corruption to move the country forward.
He said every family must join the war against corruption, noting that the scourge has destroyed the economic fabric of the country.
He added that any family member charged with such misdemeanor was rebuked by the nuclear and extended family members for dragging the family name in the mud.
Williams praised the Buhari administration for its efforts in stamping out corruption, adding that Nigerians should support the government.
He said: “The present administration is pursuing ways and means to eradicate corruption and at the same time set its minds on second term. When you focus on a second term, how could the administration pursue any meaningful business?
‘’We cannot condemn all politicians as being corrupt. We have seen one or two ex-governors in this country with only one house and a car during and after their service. So also are two heads of state.
“Nigerians don’t vote for party programmes but for their sentiment and Naira. They do not mind to vote now and pay later. Until we are able to shun corruption, the nation cannot progress. We must shun corruption for the nation to progress,’’ he said.
The former university don said the 200-mark cut off set by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) encourages corruption as parents would try to get the mark by crook or hook to enable their children gain admission.
“Corruption has taken a bold step in the history of our education. Here both students and the parents are ready to do anything to secure admission for their children.’’
He said varsity education is not compulsory anywhere, adding those ready for it must have high intelligence quotient (IQ) and the means to pay for it.
Williams urged clerics to rise up to the challenge posed by corruption, stressing that it has become a cankerworm.
The politician warned pastors against accepting money that is more than the salary of members at thanksgiving, saying that doing so meant the pastors were encouraging ill-gotten wealth.
‘’Here we see that most churches buttress corruption rather than condemn it. The missionary must start in earnest to work seriously to nip the malaise of corruption n the bud. It is very sad and disheartening to see that Christians who should be in the vanguard of crusade are heavily indulged in the cat of corruption?’’ he asked.

  • Why I am out of circulation – returnee APC chieftain, Gbazuagu

Why I am out of circulation – returnee APC chieftain, Gbazuagu

bazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, popularly known as GNG, made waves in the political circles of the old Enugu State. Apart from his popularity among the grassroots, Gbazuagu had, through his magnanimity in his hey days, developed politicians who are today bestriding the political terrain of Nigeria.

Talk of people like the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, the current Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremmadu, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, Senator Chuka Utazi, the late Chief Ojo Maduekwe; they all were beneficiaries of Gbazuagu’s political wizardry. At one time or the other these political giants passed through Gbazuagu’s generous crucibles.

He actually contested the governorship of the old Anambra State as the standard bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). But he lost to his National Republican Convention (NRC) candidate, Okwesilieze Nwodo, in very controversial circumstances.

After the failed Ibrahim Babangida still-born transition programme, GNG literally disappeared from the political scene. He was not active throughout the conception of the Fourth Republic politics. Tongues wagged, asking for the where about of Gbazuagu. He was neither seen in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or in any other party. It was as if nobody knew what became of Gbazuagu, a prince of Akpugoeze in Oji-River Local Council of Enugu State.

He remained inaccessible and unreachable throughout the tenures of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan. But in February this year, Gbazuagu was re-discovered, so to say. His voice was heard when the entire leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed his country home at Akpugoeze to receive him into the party. The occasion, which attracted the big and the low of the society, was held right inside his ancestral compound.

Gbazuagu, however, did not disclose why he was politically out of circulation during the period in question . They only played and talked politics and everybody dispersed. Not until this week, that GNG decided to reveal to reporters his travails and what he went through during the period. It was neither a problem of politics nor social activity.

In his words: “I was besieged by a strange illness which imperiled me physically, mentally, psychologically and materially and which defied all available medical solution. However, God Almighty, in His infinite mercy gave me a second chance and miraculously healed me and granted me absolute recovery in all facets of my life.”

Gbazuagu, a multi-millionaire, said that his travails were lessons from God that taught him the vanity of life. He said sometime in 2002, he was made the chairman of the building committee of the Cathedral of the newly created Oji -River Diocese of the Anglican Communion. And an estimate of N1 billion was posited. He on his own donated the sum of N100 million and work started in earnest.

Work had reached advanced stage when he decided to succumb to the demand of his children to build a befitting house for the family in Enugu. He abandoned the work on the “house of God to embark on the “useless” house on an 8,500 square metre of land with swimming pool.”

“The strange illness afflicted me thereafter and continued to emaciate me. The illness denied me of sleep and I was being given tranquilizers but all to no avail. I visited many countries, including Britain. America, Israel, India etc but nothing was diagnosed. I gave up hope after visiting these countries without cure.

“I decided to sell the “useless” house I was building since there was no sense in putting up such an edifice I will not live in. Immediately I disposed of the House, I started recovering miraculously.”

Gbazuagu said he did not waste time in going back to complete the House of God, and hence God healed me instantly in all aspects of my life. I experienced and passed through the tribulations of Job and Nebuchadnezzar. The only difference is that my family is left intact,” he divulged.

According to him, God did not only “return me to life, He also gave us someone who made First Class honours in software engineering at United Kingdom University.” His last daughter graduated recently with First Class honours.

Saying he has totally committed himself to the service of God, GNG described his travails as the result of greed. He disclosed that today, he belongs to four dioceses – Abuja, Enugu, Oji-River and Aguata “where I discharge my financial and spiritual obligations.

Last Sunday, he held a special thanksgiving and testimony at the Cathedral of Good Shepherd, Enugu. The occasion witnessed dignitaries from across party lines.

The roll call included Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Senator Ken Nnamani, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Ibrahim Mantu, Kola Abiola, Senator Bode Olajumoke, Dr. Chris Ngige, Professor Barth Nnaji, Senator Emma Agboti, Okey Ezea and a host of others.

He was reacting to an allegation by the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) that their members were harassed and detained by the Edo State government, following the remand of 13 youths in Ovia North East local government area over allegation of attempted murder.

He said the youths should prove that they are law abiding when they get to court.

He alleged that the PDP  introduced violence into the electioneering, recalling that it was its trade mark in previous polls.

Uyigue said: “The campaigns have been going on well. ThePDP is introducing violence which by now we ought to have overgrown in the igerian politics, they are organising thugs, using their members in the House of Representatives.

“Look at what they did to the electricity project in Uhen-Egbeta. They seized the vehicle, saying it should not pass through Okada.  They have been charged to court now. People are making noise about it.

“Let the law take its course. The driver was severely beaten. His boy was beaten. Police took all of these to the state. What other evidence do you want to show that you were not violent. As the campaign is going on, the PDP chances are very slim, there is no way they can win this election, no magic.”

The chieftain said the PDP would not win the election, adding: “No miracle will happen,. The PDP will never win Ovia North East, which is my local government. They are planning thuggery. But, what have they done there?  Even, the road to their village, the contract was awarded. The amount was paid in full and the work was not not done. So,  if a man can steal from himself, what else do you expect?”

Uyigue said the governor has lived up to expectation, adding that the people will vote for the APC candidate.

He added: “Since I joined politics, I am yet to see a governor who has performed like Oshiomhole.”

The four-day free medical service, which took place last weekend at the headquarters of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, defied the sentiment of political affiliation.  Residents of the 14 communities in the local government who are supporters of different political parties trooped into the venue to get free medical service.

Dr. Pepple Iyalla, one of the doctors who came from United States  of America, said due to the love the organiser had for his people he decided to mobilise them to assist in the programme. He described the free medical outreach as a laudable programme to assist the residents of the area.

Iyalla said the organiser “provided the drugs to carter for the health need of his people. He was able to get doctors from outside the country to work for him. The medical team provided a conducive environment to ensure that everyone who came to the venue were examined and treated. Some of the treatment provided include malaria, typhoid, high blood pressure, checking of sugar level, eye examination, pains and other problem presented.”

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to Niger Delta Report, revealed that the health centres at their various communities had no drug to take care of them and some with drugs charged exorbitantly. They noted that due to the issue of kidnapping and cult related activities so many doctors had fled out of the area leaving inexperience nurses to manage the area.

Mr. Michael Ndubisi, one of the beneficiaries, said he was grateful to be treated and counseled by the medical team who provided drugs that would serve him for two weeks.

“I am one of the supporters of the People Democratic Party (PDP). One thing most of us are happy today is that the initiator of this medical outreach, who is a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), did not only make the service free, he also makes it available to everybody in spite of their political affiliation.”

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Monica Obiajuru, said the doctor told her that she was very lucky that she came for the checkup.

“The doctor said if I didn’t to come today it would have been something else due to the level of my high blood pressure. Tell me how high blood pressure will not kill us when the youths in my community have been making us to live with anxiety and fear over cult-related activities in the area.”

The Director-General,   Azubyke Initiative for Good Governance, Gibson Elendu, who was supervising the programme, said: “This is an initiative of a man who loves his people.”

The initiator of the programme, Hon. Azubuike Wanjok, said Ikwerre people and Rivers State deserve more than what they are getting from the present administration.

He queried credibility of the party chieftains, asking them to put their house in order.
