Kwara APC chieftain lauds monarch’s 30 years’ reign

Oba Yakubu Babalola, the Elesie of Esie in Kwara State, has been described as a reliable custodian, promoter and Ambassador of Esie culture and heritage within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

A senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, said this while congratulating the Elesie on the occasion of his 30th year anniversary on the throne of his fathers.

Adeyemi noted that with the natural endowment of Esie, it will take a visionary and forward looking leader to keep the momentum and re-invent the system to meet modern expectations. Oba Babalola, according to Adeyemi, has worked tirelessly to keep Esie on the global map after government discovered her rich cultural heritage which informed the establishment of the oldest Museum in Nigeria in Esie in 1945.

Adeyemi, an indigene of the town, commended the foremost Igbomina Oba for holding together the fabrics of Esieland which has resulted in the peace and tranquility the town enjoys today.

He lauded the Oba for carrying the torch of leadership for three decades and pray God to grant him long life with good health on the throne of his fathers. The America-trained aeronautical engineer equally felicitated with all sons and daughters of Esie at home and abroad on this epochal event.

    Enugu APC chieftain kidnapped, battered

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the police to arrest and prosecute the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vitus Okechi, and the Vice Chairman-elect of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Ajogwu, for allegedly kidnapping its 2015 governorship candidate, Okey Ezea.

The party accused the duo of allegedly working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and masterminding the kidnapping, torture and attempted murder of Ezea during the recent local government election in the state.

The state APC Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told reporters that Ezea was beaten to a pulp and kidnapped.

The chairman said the police rescued him and took him to a hospital during the November 4 local government election in the state.

He said Ezea only asked for the result sheet of the election and calling for a free and fair poll.

Nwoye said despite Ezea’s statement at the divisional police headquarters in Igboeze South Local Government Area, the police had not arrested and prosecuted the hoodlums that attacked the former governorship candidate.

But Okechi denied culpability in tha attack.

The commissioner said Ezea was attacked by suspected thugs he brought to the election venue over possible disagreement on financial settlement.

Police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said Ezea should rest assured that the culprits would be brought to justice, if he had lodged a complaint with the police.

He said: “Chief Ezea ought to have gone to the divisional police headquarters where he reported the matter to find out the status of the matter before going to press.

“He can also see the Commissioner of Police to know the status of the matter.”

Nwoye said the attackers must face justice, adding that Ezea was a three-time governorship candidate in the state and a leading voice of the opposition.

He said: “We called on you (reporters) to talk about what happened to our leader, our governorship candidate in 2015 election, in the last local government fraudulent election.

“Before everything else, before we became APC members, before we even became Nigerians, we are first human beings. So, when certain things happen, we treat them from human perspective.

“Recall that I informed you in a hurry on that particular day, November 4, those of you who had the opportunity to come around here, that Chief Ezea was attacked, kidnapped, forcefully incarcerated and tortured. I also said he remained in the den of kidnappers for some time before he was rescued by the police.

“Unfortunately, Chief Ezea knew his attackers; at least, those who masterminded his attack. He fingered Okechi and Ajogwu.”

Engage youths in governance – APC chieftain urges

A prominent leader of the youth wing of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Comrade Blessing Adebowale Akinlosotu on Monday called on Nigerian political leaders to give ampules of opportunity to Young Professionals to take over governance, stating that the country may not get it right until the Youths are allowed to take the fore front role.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja after the meeting of some Young Professionals under the aiges of Forum of Emerging Leaders (FELs) at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Akinlosotu said those who understands the language of 21st century should be in charge of governance in 21st century.

He posited that all the nations that had progressed from developing to developed countries in the last one decade were able to do so because their youths were productively and effectively engaged by their leaders.

“Our leaders should give us a space. Nigeria is blessed with young people with first class brains that could compete anywhere in the world.

” It is the young people that understand the language of Information Technology, Modern Agriculture, Telecom, Automobiles and other tools needed to reshape governance today.

“It is the youths that could creatively and innovatively think. The older generation should allow us to lead while they guide us. The formula for solving globalization quagmires lie in the hands of the younger generation. Nigeria cannot afford to be recycling power among same people that have been in saddle since 1960.” He said.

Akinlosotu said the politics of gerontocracy currently being played in Nigeria will spell doom and agony for the country if the country’s political bourgeoisies fail to engage the youths progressively.

“Nigerian Youths demand for justice. We demand that we should be engaged. We can’t continue in this manner and expect progress. Tanzania has overtaken Nigeria in the development index.

‘Gabon is now the number one destination of investors in Africa. Young people makes it happen in those countries. Nigerian leaders should save Nigeria from this impending agony by engaging young professionals embedded with integrity and managerial acumen to be in charge. Enough is enough” he concluded.

Osinbajo doing very well, says APC chieftain

    •Ex-governorship candidate flays Wike

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Tonye Princewill, has hailed Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for doing a good job while President Muhammadu Buhari is recuperating in London.

The APC chieftain, who is an indigene of Buguma-Kalabari, headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, added that Osinbajo is doing well  in ensuring stability, with the economy getting back in shape.

He spoke yesterday at a news conference in Port Harcourt.

Princewill said the main opposition APC in Rivers was in a better position to develop the Niger Delta state.

A former governorship candidate of defunct Action Congress (AC) in 2007 and Labour Party (LP) in 2015, who defected to the APC, he noted that the administration of President Buhari is making progress.

He flayed Governor Nyesom Wike’s style of leadership.

Princewill said: “Patriotic citizens of Rivers State should be concerned about the killing and beheading of innocent people and senseless/needless violence in the state. Wike’s government lacks transparency. It is a one-man show.

“The budgets in Wike’s two years in office are not made public. Contracts are awarded without budget and no constituency project for the state’s lawmakers. Wike only hangs Keke NAPEP at his Pleasure Park on Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway. My worry is not about removing Wike in 2019, but about who will replace him.

“Rivers State needs stronger opposition. I believe that joining the APC will strengthen the party and increase its chances at the polls. What is happening in APC in Rivers State is not a crisis, but the party has a lot of work to do, ahead of the 2019 general elections. APC is genuine about winning elections. When I joined APC, the first thing I did was to kill my governorship ambition. Rotimi Amaechi, Magnus Abe and Dakuku Peterside will soon resolve their issues and give PDP leaders a run for their money.

“I am for Rivers State to move forward and for APC to be better and stronger. My love is for Rivers State. Only somebody without principle will stay in a political party without principle. If you are somebody with integrity and with people’s interest at heart, if you are in a party without integrity and interest of the people and you still remain in the party, that means you are in the party to feather your nest.

“I do not rely on government. I am an entrepreneur. I do not come into politics to make money, but to spend money. I do not come out because things are sweet. I come out because things are rough. While in the PDP, I donated the PDP Media Centre in Abuja. I moved not because it was pleasant. I moved because it was not pleasant.

“Nothing stops Wike from collaborating with Amaechi (the Transportation Minister) to attract investors to Rivers State. Welfare and security of people of the state should be the governor’s responsibilities. Wike ought to overcome all political barriers to make Rivers a great state. Wike cannot develop Rivers State alone. I will work with APC to put Wike on his toes.”

The ex-governorship candidate also stated that the Rivers governor succeeded in fooling most people of the state by making them to believe that the former Rivers governor (Amaechi) prevented their “son,” former President Goodluck Jonathan, an indigene of Otuoke in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State from being re-elected in 2015.

He said: “Things are on track and steady progress is currently being made in Nigeria. The Acting President is doing a great job. The fight against corruption is impressive.

“Nigeria needs restructuring. Saying no to restructuring is not wise. If APC’s government does not address restructuring now, it will affect the party’s chances during the 2019 elections.”

Princewill urged Nigerians to support the Buhari government.

  • APC chieftain to speak at GMP’s Iftar

The National Legal Adviser of All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr Muiz Banire will on Saturday discuss Political Intelligence at the Third Annual Iftar organised by the Guild of Muslim Professionals (GMP).

The event will hold at the Learning Centre Hall of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Former Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Mutalubi Ojo Adebayo and other notable personalities will grace the occasion.

A statement by GMP Head of Admin Alhaji AbdulKabir Sulayman said over 100 Muslim professionals are expected at the event.

Sulayman said: “The guild believes that aside the spiritual talks that usually fills the the air during Ramadan period, issues affecting the masses should also be given consideration. We want responsible people in the society to be politically conscious so as to give the polity a good direction.”

Politics, he said, has been left in the hands of charlatans for so long.

He said: “We can’t continue to allow those who have nothing to offer to continue to hold us ransom. Sane minds won’t loot the treasury the way we have seen it been reported on a daily basis. It is high time we sensitise ourselves about issues affecting our growth as a nation.

“The responsibility of making the world a better place in a continuous challenging and innovative environment lies in the hands of the Muslims and we must continually learn how to salvage mankind as the contemporary issues emerge. It is obvious that Allah bless the Muslims with wealth and human resources but the challenge is harnessing those resources to benefit  mankind. That is why GMP has put forth the Annual Iftar Get Together with the theme ‘Political Intelligence’ to lay bare the challenges and proffer solutions.”

  • APC chieftain urges Anioma on consensus candidate

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Emmanuel Ndoka Ogwuda, has urged the people of Anioma to pick a consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2019 general election.
He said this became imperative following the emergence of new political platforms and agitations, “seeking to alter political understanding hitherto established by leaders of thought to foster peaceful co-existence, mutual development and ethical harmony.
Ogwuda said: “We have taken notice of ominous plots by some desperate politicians to scuttle the political zoning arrangement for the governorship position, which was established since 1999. When the current democratic dispensation took -off, Delta Central District was endorsed and massively supported to produce the governor. Then Delta South took its turn before it came to Delta North”.
He said zoning of the governorship position must remain sacrosanct, adding that it should been respected by all parties, pressure groups and lobby platforms.
“As far as committee members of the APC are concerned, the governorship position is non-negotiable and our party, the APC, should work in this direction to deliver a candidate of APC from Anioma extraction”.
“I am therefore vehemently opposed to the rumoured plot to zone the leadership of Delta State chapter of APC to Delta North in the forthcoming party congress, with the plan to alter the governorship zoning arrangement in favour of another senatorial district .This ill-conceived agenda will strangle the rapidly booming popularity of the APC in the state and eventually kill the party as a widely accepted alternative platform in Delta State”.

Ambode making life stress-free for Lagosians – Mamora

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Senator representing Lagos East at the Senate, Olorunnimbe Mamora has commended Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for his sterling performance in office within two years, saying that the infrastructures put in place by the Governor have greatly contributed to reduction of stress for the people and increase productivity.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of eight roads newly upgraded in Kosofe Local Government by the State Government, Mamora said the springing up of critical infrastructures in all sectors and sections of the State, apart from its positive implication for trade and commerce, would equally save the people from stress and hypertension, as well as lead to increase in productivity.

The newly inaugurated roads are Omotayo Banwo, Kola Iyaomolere, Omotayo Close, Adetunji Adegbite Street, Ogun Street, Goodluck Street and Prince Oyewunmi Street.

Mamora said: “People may not really appreciate what it entails but apart from opening up this area for communication, trade, commerce and so on, it goes beyond that. How about the stress factor that has been reduced because if you are coming from the Express now from Third Mainland Bridge, once you just turn at Ogudu, it leads you straight to Alapere and from there to Ikorodu.

“Now, when you reduce stress on the people, off course, you also reduce their tendency to develop hypertension. Again, when you reduce what you call man-hour loss, you increase productivity. So, this thing has multiplier effect and the total transformation of this area is commendable.”

Mamora, who is also a former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, recalled how former Lagos State Governor and now National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu opened up the area in 2002 with the upgrade of Kola Iya Omolere Road, while his successor, Babatunde Fashola build on the developmental template laid by the former by upgrading Agboyi Road.

“Now, Governor Ambode, who has been described as the God Given Governor (GGG), coming on board, has transformed the entire place in totality.

“I am saying this with all due sense of humility, modesty and passion at my disposal, two Sundays ago when we were coming from Church as I was driving with my wife, I told her let us just stop by at my hospital because she never came around to see when the roads were under construction, but I was always coming around to monitor the progress of work, we drove up to almost Alapere end and we turned back, when we came back, my wife was asking me where is our hospital. She was asking me because she just could not believe the transformation that had taken place,” Mamora narrated.

While endorsing the Governor for a second term in office, Mamora said: “By God’s grace and by the grace of the people who the Governor has been serving very well, I pray that Governor Ambode will complete his eight years in office.”

Also, speaking during the inauguration of network of roads newly completed in Epe by the Ambode administration, the Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animasahun said he was proud of the achievements of the Governor in office in all sections of the State.

The monarch, who recalled the flyovers built in Abule Egba and Ajah, as well as the regeneration of Ojodu Berger axis and the bridge/network of roads in Aboru and Abesan communities, said he was particularly happy that the gift from Epe to Lagos State in person of Governor Ambode had not disappointed the people, as there are visible projects in all parts of the State.

He said in the history of Epe and Lagos State, the achievements of Governor Ambode would never be forgotten, as the trajectory of the State was being changed for good.

  • Sylva’s ex-Chief of Staff tackles fellow APC chieftain over attack on Jonathan, kinsmen

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State and ex-Chief of Staff to former Governor Timipre Sylva, Chief Samuel Ogboku has tackled his fellow party man, Perekeme Richard Kpodo over his recent attack on some Ogbia sons, describing it as an affront on the peace-loving people of Ogbia land, by a mischief-maker.Chief Ogboku who is also the deputy Paramount Ruler of Ayakoro Community accused Kpodo of plotting to pitch one part of Ijaw against the other.

It would be recalled that Kpodo had in a recent newspaper article accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of favouring mainly his kinsmen from the Ogbia community through economic empowerment.Describing the claim as a blackmail and full of lies, Ogboku further dismissed it as a divisive intention meant to pitch Ogbia people against their brothers in the entire Ijaw nation.

On why he opted to take on a fellow APC Chieftain, Ogboku said: “I wish to state that I have nothing personal against the author even if some people would want me to align with his submissions just because the people being attacked are members of the Peoples Democratic Party. On this matter, politics should not be an excuse to peddle lies and baseless allegations against hardworking Ogbia entrepreneurs.

As an Ogbia Chief, I cannot hide under partisanship to allow unscrupulous characters to needlessly insult our people and heritage. In a democracy, the author has the right to talk about any subjector criticise and express his views. What is not acceptable is deliberately portraying Ogbia in bad light.”

He said further: “Perekeme Richard Kpodo, in the said publication mischievously sought to portray the Ogbia people as the only beneficiaries of the Jonathan’s administration in the Niger Delta and supporting his warped argument with the few names of Ogbia sons currently going through an ordeal in the hands of anti-corruption agents.

“Firstly, I may not be a friend to those he mentioned, but I can’t remember any Court of law finding any of these Ogbia sons guilty since the law says an accused is innocent untill he is found guilty. So, for now, nobody has the right to pass judgement on them. Moreso, some of the persons the author mentioned are not under any kind of investigation, so why blackmail successful and purpose-oriented
    businessmen.

Dr. Eruani Azibapu, who is not under any kind of investigation is a successful businessman from Ogbia, and we are thankful to God to have such a person in our community.“The author emphasized on the Refinery under construction, by Dr. Eruani. It should be made clear to the author in case he doesn’t know, that Dr. Eruani’s firm obtained the licence for a Private Modular Refinery under the current Government of President Mohammed Buhari.

This present administration further granted a 500MW power generation plant to Dr. Eruani’s firm, based on its proven capacity and credibility. So, as Ijaw people and Nigerians we are opportune to benefit from the President Buhari Administration just as other determined businessmen across the country benefitted from past administrations, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote who also got a licence for a refinery under the friendly policies of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. It is our belief that the mischief and blackmail of Kpodo are ill-conceived and should not be taken seriously.

“Secondly, it should be stressed that the anti-corruption fight of the present administration is not restricted to a particular zone and quite a number of personalities across the Nation are under investigation, and not just Ogbia people contrary to the impression being created by Kpodo. Even within the Ijaw ethnic nationality, a number of individuals are facing trials while some have been declared
wanted. Amazingly, some of these persons who are Kpodo’s kinsmen are facing weightier allegations than the salacious lies being circulated about the Ogbia people. So, the question is: what could be Kpodo’s intent in singling out Ogbia people for ridicule if his write up is not an affront on the community?

“Ordinarily, the publication would have been ignored especially coming from a character like Kpodo. However, doing that would be a cheap way of accepting the spurious claims and attack on the collective psyche of the Ogbia people. It is unacceptable for anyone to portray the Ogbia people as criminals and failures. In Kpodo’s jaundiced assessment, a man celebrated worldwide for his stewardship in government could be a failure. But we all know the truth which cannot be diminished by the rant of Kpodo. President Jonathan’s achievements are footprints that remain indelible. Need we remind Kpodo and those beating the shameless drum for him to dance to that President Jonathan was a President to all Nigerians and not a president of Ogbia or Bayelsa State. He is a symbol of pride to the Ijaw people and the entire Nation. Could Kpodo have forgotten this early that President Jonathan
