  • APC chieftain advises Muslim youths on nation-building

The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muiz Banire has urged youths to have the fear of God in all they do. He also advised them to shun all anti-social and criminal activities.

Banire spoke at the 2nd Shaykh Abdul Hakeem Ibn Abayomi Memorial Lecture organised by the Advanced Centre for Advocacy, Development and Empowerment of Muslim Community (ACADEMY) at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).

His words: “When you fear Allah, you would not engage in corruption, kidnapping and other vices that can incur His wrath.”

Banire, whose paper was entitled “The Role of Youths in Nation-building”, enjoined youths to seek knowledge and get educated for the development of the nation, adding that “knowledge is indispensable in the development of a nation”.

According to him, if a nation must change, the youth must stand up to their responsibilities.

“You must be politically active; do not leave it to the charlatans. It is important that you work before involving yourself in politics,” he added.

He said if people do not abuse their positions of authority, the country would have been better developed.

“There is no reason for a Muslim to have high blood pressure because you should be contented with whatever Allah has bestowed on you. Be thankful for everything either positive or negative,” he said.

  • Tinubu leader of all times, says APC chieftain

Tinubu leader of all times, says APC chieftain

A chieftain of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC), Basorun Tajudeen Jaiyesimi, has described the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as “a leader of all times”.

Jaiyesimi, who spoke following the conferment of “Baba Oba of Ikorodu” title on Tinubu, reasoned that the APC national leader’s “leadership qualities cannot be overemphasized”.

He noted that Tinubu persistently demonstrated  sterling qualities since his days as treasurer of Mobil Plc.

He added that it was Tinubu’s ingenuity that led to the construction of the ultra-modern office of the oil company at Victoria Island, Lagos.

“That Lagos is what it is today cannot be divorced from Asiwaju’s vision of a well-developed and prosperous Lagos.

“He was able to do this, using his vast experience in the corporate world to turn the state into a dream come true.

“Lagosians will recall the ingenuity he brought into the system, which led to a quantum leap in the resources of Lagos.

“This is aside the setting up of political structure that has made the state to continue to work.

“To cap it all, he used his vision and resources to spread development, starting from the Southwest to other zones under the control of the APC.

“That APC won the presidential election surely is the icing on the cake for the Jagaban,” he said.

Jaiyesimi, who is the Basorun of Ipakodo, Ikorodu,, hailed the Ayangbure, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, for conferring the title on Tinubu.

This, he added, showed that the traditional ruler was on the same page with his people.

“I’m not surprised that Kabiyesi honoured Asiwaju with the great title of Baba Oba because Kabiyesi stands for the growth and development of Ikorodu.

“It only confirms that our Kabiyesi, just like the people, recognise the contributions of Asiwaju to the development of Ikorodu,” he added.

An unexpected largesse has come the way of commercial motorcyclists in Ekiti State as ex-Speaker of the House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Femi Bamisile, began distribution of free petrol to them as a form of economic empowerment.

Over 200 motorcycle operators popularly called okada riders received free fuel at designated filling stations in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The benefiting commercial bike operators hailed the APC and Bamisile for the gesture which many of them described as “unexpected from a party that is currently out of power.”

The benefactor, who promised that the scheme would be a continuous one said it was one of the programmes designed to shore up the popularity of the APC as “the real of the masses” and to assist the downtrodden to tackle economic hardship.

Bamisile also assured that the APC would soon unfold special package for the vulnerable segment of the population such as widows, orphans, unemployed youths and physically-challenged people, among others.

One of the motorcyclists, Debo Asubiojo, described the gesture as “unprecedented in the history of the state.”

Another okada rider, Bayo Agbede, said the largesse is a “challenge to the government in power to do something for the masses.”

Speaking while flagging off the scheme, Bamisile explained that the free fuel distribution scheme was part of his efforts and that of his party to bail the riders out of the present economic hardship.

He said the gesture was also in line with the cardinal objectives of the Muhammadu Buhari administration “to give lifeline to Nigerians battered by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governance and poor handling of the economy.”

    APC chieftain greets Buhari, Ambode

A Lagos-based chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Sola Oyedele has congratulated the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, his deputy, Mrs Risikat Adebule and other APC elected candidates on their victories in the just concluded general elections.

Their victory, she said, is a plus for democracy and the beginning of new things to come for Nigerians.

According to Mrs Oyedele, the newly elected APC members across the country will definitely bring back the lost glory of the country.

She urged the leaders to lead well to ensure that dividend of democracy for all.

According to Oyedele, the opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was defeated because of its corruption, non-transparent mode of administration, lack of focus, selfishness, greed, arrogance and lack of control.

She advised the party to embrace unity and avoid ethnicity and tribalism in the ongoing zoning of crucial national positions, for it not to disrupt the peace, harmony and love in the party.

Mrs Oyedele appealed to the party leaders to avoid wrong selection and imposition in the forthcoming local government election. She urged Lagos State Governor-elect, Ambode to continue to build on the legacy of the National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, which was sustained by His Excellency Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Oyedele also urged him and his deputy to work harder and increase the APC followership in the state.

She appealed to the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari to tackle corruption which has become endemic in the country and has drawn Nigeria back among the comity of nations.

According to her, Buhari looks like the needed messiah that will redeem the country from the current hopelessness and drift.

Three killed, as APC chieftain escapes death in Rivers

Three persons were confirmed dead yesterday in a clash between supporters of People Democratic Party (PDP) and the loyalists of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

In a related incident, a chieftain of the APC and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Nwobueze Amadi, narrowly escaped death after suspected assassins invaded his private residence in Aluu community.

According to reports, the dead are Anyanwu Ndubisi and  Collinus Dike, both from Ikwere Local Government Area and Prince Okparanwo Siyiba, popularly known as Defor, from Ahoada in Ahoada East Local government Area of the state.

The brother to late Collinus Dike, Mr. John Dike, said his brother is not a member of any political party in the state.

According to him, his late brother was hit by bullets fired during the clash between members of the two parties. He added that the corpse would not be buried until those responsible his death are arrested and prosecuted.

“We know those who killed my brother in the name of politics. My brother is not a member of any of the political parties, but he was shot to death by his enemies. They intentional killed him.”

Efforts to get the relatives of late Anyanwu proved abortive.

Another victim, Defor was murdered in the morning at his residence in Ahoada by gunmen who invaded his house.

An eyewitness, Justice Mbatauwa said  Defor was killed few days after he alerted the people in the area that some PDP chieftain were arming some youths in the area ahead of today’s election.

Meanwhile, Hon. Nwobueze Amadi, who said he was speaking from his hideout,  said the council’s revenue chairman was arrested by the police few days ago, adding that the armed  men who came to arrest him were armed and ready to kill.

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using the police to intimidate the leaders of APC in Rivers State, with the aim of putting them out of circulation until after the election.

“I am talking to you now from my hideout. Some heavily armed men invaded my house, and It is only God that saved me. I don’t know what the condition would have been if they had arrested me. Maybe they would have accused me of being in possession of arms as usual.

“Two days ago, the same police arrested my revenue chairman and accused him of being in possession of AK47, which as far as I am concerned, is a fabricated lie. The Etche council boss was also arrested and the APC leaders in the state went to the police to protest his arrest. Today it is my turn, I don’t know what they want to achieve.”

When contacted on phone, the Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, did not pick his call. A text message detailing the matter was also forwarded to his phone. But he had not responded as at press time.

  • APC chieftain protests attack by PDP members

Lagos State All progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Hon. Muslim Folami has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against causing trouble, ahead of next year’s elections.

He alleged that PDP members have been attacking APC members in Orimedu, Ibeju-Lekki without provocation, adding that the rampaging PDP youths have the support of a notable PDP leader from the area.

Folami, who has sent a petition to the Area Police Command, Ajah, Eti-Osa, urged the police to investigate the unwarranted attacks on the indigenes of the area, who have sympathy for the APC.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Political and Legislative Matters alleged that no fewer than 34 APC youths have been marked for liquidation by suspected thugs.

He said: ‘The APC members that they planned to attack have been listed and pasted around the walls in the Orimedu Community. Some of the shortlisted APC members’ property have been vandalised. This is to show that, if the members of the APC have not been tolerant, the community would have been turned to a battle field

“This matter is in court and the court verdict should be respected. We believe their actions to restrain the APC members from entering the town contravenes their fundamental human rights as entrenched in the 1999 Constitution as they are not law enforcement agents empowered to do so.”

Folami urged the police to intervene in the matter, with a view to resolving the matter so that the shortlisted indigenes can return to the community without further molestation.

The Special Adviser, who spoke with reporters in Lagos, berated PDP leaders for do-or-die politics, saying that it is counter-productive. He lamented that three APC chieftains, including himself, former Health Commissioner Dr. Tola Kasali and Baruwa Yusuf, were detained by the police when they were framed up after the murder of a PDP member, Shakiru Ogboye.

Folami alleged that suspected PDP thugs killed the deceased, dumped his body at the front of his residence and vandalised his property.  He added: “Many APC chieftains were picked up forcefully in the night on the order of the PDP leader in the area. Twenty six people were arrested before some of them were released. I was detained at Panti Statation and taken to court on the fourth day where I appeared before a Chief Magistrate Court at Ebute-Metta. I was granted bail on self-recognition.”

The Special Adviser said that PDP leaders have planned to threaten APC members so that they will not participate in the elections. He added: “We have informed the governor. We have reported the matter to the police. They are boasting that they have the police. But, we believe in the law and justice.”

In another petition to the State Security Service (SSS), Folami alleged threat to his life, following his objection to the hijack of community land by the PDP leader. He said: “Some elders of Orimedu, including myself, who were not happy with the fraudulent manner the land was given to him challenged it. As part of our strategy, we decided to have a sensitisation forum that brought the stakeholders together to let them know the implications of allowing such a massive land, which could have been used for the development of the town, to be given to only one individual.

“My activities and that of the elders in respect of this matter must have pro, pted him to ask his thugs to make ‘threat to life’ calls threatening through hidden numbers. I think it will be stupid of me to fold my hands and allow the unexpected to happen to me and my family. Hence, this petition to alert you for prompt investigation, protection and action.”

  • APC chieftain hails Tinubu

Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa has hailed the contribution of the National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to the growth of democracy.

He described him as a principled, dedicated and harworking progressive arrowhead, whose mission in politics is the liberation of the masses.

Bolarinwa said in a statement in Lagos that Tinubu’s commitment to democracy has reflected in the emergence of a viable and formidabole opposition party, adding that it has also motivated Nigerians to agitate for power shift and positive change.

The former House of Representatives member said: “Those of us who know you and  your antecedents will attest  that the big opposition party, the APC, is a product of foresight. The political wizardry in you has made you to remain focused, steadfast and strategic in bringing together opposition elements for positive action.

“It is not out of place, if you seek to lead the APC to government, considering your efforts, sacrifice, financial commitment and other unseen troubles you  have been subjected to as a leader. Owing to a curious propaganda, political calculation is now based on religious factor.

“But, as the National Leader, we salute your courage, sacrifice and selfless service to the progressive cause. As it is for now, Asiwaju is left with the position of the National Leader. Fine it is,but experience has taught us a lot of lessons about the complexity and unpredicability of human beings. My wish is that the position of the National Leader should, not only be morally recognised and verbally acknowledged by the party, it should also be entrenched in the party constitution. This, to me, will  enable you to continue to play the role of a bridge-builder and place you at a vantage to find a lasting solution to the myriad of problems facing the country.”

  • Don’t disrupt Kwara peace, APC chieftain warns PDP

Don’t disrupt Kwara peace, APC chieftain warns PDP

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an amalgam of strange bedfellows blinded by unbridled ambition, the former chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Kayode Olawepo, has said.

Olawepo, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, noted that the botched PDP primaries and other crises rocking the party were borne out of the vaunting ambition of the governorship aspirants.

He urged the leadership of the PDP not to breach the harmonious relationship among the people in the state.

Olawepo said: “I hope they will not use their own unbridled to destroy the peace of the state. We plead with them to allow Kwara state to be at peace.”

The APC chieftain told reporters yesterday in Ilorin, the state capital, that it is wishful and illusory for the PDP to wrest power from APC through Abuja in the 2015 general elections.

He said: “You cannot rig where you are not popular. All the insinuations of the federal might by the PDP is now an illusion because that might would have been destroyed before the elections. There is no federal might that can be relied upon by the time we get to the time of election proper.

“So, I will just advise them to face the reality that the federal might they are banking on does not exist again. That is because everything about bad governance is at the federal level, which Nigerians have decided to reject. This means when the head is rotten, definitely the whole body is dead. And to our people in APC, we must work as if that federal might still exists or will exist.

“We should cast our votes, stay with our votes, protect our votes and follow the results everywhere peacefully. Even if they (federal agencies) are deployed, they cannot fight any peaceful environment. I don’t see anything in a federal might that can take anybody to anywhere in Kwara State.”

On the botched PDP primaries, Olawepo said: “Given the outlook of the APC and PDP, there couldn’t have been any way by which the PDP can make any headway in Kwara State. This is because you have to look at how the parties came together. What are the antecedents of those that make up the party and where can they get to?

“Given all those things, there is every likelihood that they will not get its bearing even before and the period of the elections. As a chieftain of the APC, I do not see them as a threat to the success of the APC in all the elections in the state in 2015. All things being equal, what binds them together cannot make PDP a successful party.
