Aregbesola is a distraction, not longer our member – Osun APC insists

…those who calling for Oyetola sack will soon regret it, says Osun ex-deputy gov

The Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the erstwhile minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola is a distraction in the party and ceased to be a member of the party.

Aregbesola, who is an ex-governor of Osun state under the platform of APC had created a group, Omoluabi Progressives and also launched its membership registration over the weekend at his ward.

Meanwhile, APC in a communique after its stakeholders meeting held at the party secretariat, Osogbo, signed by its state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal officially notified the party leadership about the upcoming electronic party membership registration as directed by the national secretariat, warning against registering with Aregbesola’s group.

The secretary of the party, Kamoru Alao explained that the registration will start tomorrow after the national chairman of the party inaugurate the committee that will train the trainers at the local levels.

“We are discouraging our members who are loyal party APC member to not go there to register with group of Aregbesola because Omoluabi as a group is not a member of our party in Osun state.

“Rauf Aregbesola in as far as we are concerned in Osun APC, he is no more member of APC. We have taken steps three times to notify the national secretariat that Aregbesola is giving us distractions in APC affairs in the state and then the party at the national should do the needful in dealing with him.

“He is a national figure. But if we cannot handle his case in this state, we have refer his matter to national secretariat and I know, soonest that they are going to act on it.”

The former deputy governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi, speaking at the meeting passed vote of confidence on Minister of Marine And Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, saying, “Anyone who is calling for the sack of the Oyetola is only political, everyone knows that he is a silent worker and achiever. When you are having a new ministry, you need to put a lot of structures in place. I am sure that those who call for the sack of Oyetola under political gimmicks will have a regret of what they have said when they see the outcome of what they have put in place.”

Tinubu has laid solid foundation for a greater Nigeria – APC support groups

…pass vote Of confidence on Ministers

Heads of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups on Friday, May 31, said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu in the last one year has laid a solid foundation for a better and greater Nigeria.

The groups also adjudged that some ministers and political appointees of the President have performed excellently in less than one year.

The verdict of the groups was contained in a statement of felicitation to President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on the occasion of their one year in office in Abuja signed on behalf of the groups by the secretary of the National Movement for Tinubu/Shettima, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed.

The statement reads: “We salute the courage and determination of the President for creating a new path of prosperity for our dear nation. As Heads of APC Support Groups that championed the course of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the electoral victory of Mr President through campaigns, awareness, enlightenment and mobilization during the electioneering process, we are assuring the president that our belief in his ability to deliver remains stronger.

“We are resolute in our support and thus giving our utmost assurance that the President can count on us anytime, any day, towards the fulfillment of his electoral mandates to the people. It is worthy of note that the one-year anniversary of the Renewed Hope Administration has laid a solid foundation for a better and greater Nigeria, even though it has come with sacrifices from Nigerians.

“We believe in the end, Nigerians will appreciate the president more for his boldness in confronting our challenges head-on, especially the removal of the very monster called fuel subsidy, which has been a drainpipe in our economy, benefiting only a few rich and connected individuals in our society. For us as support groups, we use this medium to appreciate Nigerians for their belief in the Renewed Hope Agenda and their patience with the president and his administration despite challenges.”

The support groups further observed that the president’s overall success in his first year in office was not unconnected with the efforts of the ministers managing different ministries, as their collaboration and ownership of the Renewed Hope Agenda gave birth to many of the successes being celebrated.

They singled out the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for bringing many innovations into the ministry, especially on the issue of passport issuance and renewal; the Finance Minister, Wale Edun, for the policies on revamping of the economy; and the Sports Development Minister, Senator John Enoh, for being proactive and sensitive to the plight of sportsmen and women.

Others are the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari for his efforts in ensuring food security and boosting agricultural production, the Central Bank Governor, Olayemi Cardoso for his reforms in the area of monetary policy and stabilization of the currency, NDDC boss Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for his innovations and activeness in the Niger Delta region among other

The group however appealed to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to stop discrimination in the power sector, which is central and sensitive to the economic fortune of many Nigerians, especially the informal sector.

“We condemned outrightly the sharing of electricity into bands, which has a serious negative impact on many families. Consumers, especially those under the so-called Band A, are having it so hard that many find it difficult to use power for their small and medium-scale businesses,” they said.

  • North Central APC seeks devt commission amid security concerns, infrastructural deficits

North Central APC seeks devt commission amid security concerns, infrastructural deficits

Governors and leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central on Saturday held a high-powered zonal meeting during which issues affecting the growth of the party and developmental priorities of the region were discussed.

The meeting specifically commended President Bola Tinubu for his impressive handling of national issues, including the reforms which the meeting observed would enhance sustainable development.

Held in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State, the leaders drummed support for the establishment of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to tackle issues affecting the region, particularly huge infrastructural deficits, banditry and other violent crimes which they said are a big drawback on subsistence and large scale farming, and the perennial flooding which continues to haunt the region.

The leaders also called for the dredging of the River Niger, resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Mill in Lokoja, respect for the rights of the APC lawmakers in Plateau under the law, and more A-list appointments for party loyalists from the region.

The meeting was well-attended by creme de la creme from the region, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume; Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara); Engr. Sule Abdullahi Nasarawa); Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi); Hyacinth Alia (Benue).

Niger Governor Mohammed Umar Bago was also represented at the event, which drew several Senators, House of Representatives members, Ministers, House of Assembly members, and senior party executives from across the region.

APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, his predecessor Adamu Abdullahi, and National Secretary of the party Dr. Bashiru Ajibola were also at the event to give solidarity messages.

SGF commended the initiative to bring APC leaders together for a common agenda of growth, saying President Tinubu values the contributions of the party in the region and will do more to reward their loyalty.

He also said many infrastructural projects are in the pipeline for the region, saying the President is already addressing some lopsidedness observed in some recent appointments.

He said massive works will begin soon on some road projects, including Makurdi Enugu, Akwanga to Jos, Lokoja to South West, some road projects within Kwara axis, among others.

Abdulrazaq, who is the Nigeria Governors Forum Chairman and APC Coordinating Governor for North Central, said the meeting had been called to thank members and stakeholders for the support for the party, foster unity among stakeholders, and discuss issues of human and infrastructural development affecting the region, including backing a development commission for the region.

He called for continuous support for the President and the party, saying efforts are ongoing to get more appointments and big projects to the region.

“As leaders, we acknowledge the calls for improvement in the reward system within our party. We have raised this concern with the President, who is a democrat, and he is quite receptive to our suggestions for a measurable change in what comes to this region going forward,” he said.

Abdulrazaq said two main committees will arise from the meeting, including one on reconciliation and project and policy formulation  — both geared towards uniting the party and further aligning government’s projects and policies with the aspirations of the people of the region.

He said leaders of the region are concerned about the treatment of APC lawmakers in Plateau — a concern shared by all the leaders at the event.

Governor Sule, the host, called for more unity and collaboration among leaders for the purpose of achieving collective goals of development, peace, and security in the region.

He commended the party leaders and other stakeholders for the impressive attendance of the meeting, which he said marks a new positive beginning for the party and the region.

Governor of Benue State said the elephant in the room for the North Central is insecurity, which requires unity and pooling of resources to address.

He lamented that the region is punching below its weight as the hub of food production and mineral resources owing to insecurity, adding his voice to earlier calls for the NCDC and other interventions that can help the region.

Governor Hyacinth said the region has not recovered from the flooding of 2022 that damaged crops and livestock, and displaced hundreds of thousands of people across the region.

Governor Ododo aligned himself with his colleagues, saying the region needs synergy to tackle the myriad issues affecting it.

“We need a safer North Central to have a better and safer Nigeria because this region is central to the country. While we are blessed with huge mineral resources and rich land, we have to make it work for the people. We need to work together as a region, and that is why this gathering is of great importance,” he said.

Ganduje said the meeting is one of the fruits of the ongoing reforms within the party, geared towards making APC “active all year round”.

He said the party has also established the Progressive Institute to train leaders and members on key democratic principles and drive progressive policies.

“Meetings like this also allow you to discuss issues that are peculiar to your region, after which recommendations are sent to different layers of the party,” he added.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Wase said the region needs to work together as the North Central lags behind on infrastructural projects, citing the abandonment of the road leading to Baro Port.

“We have been hit by many crisis and we definitely need the North Central Development Commission. Also, all the roads in the tax credits should be completed,” he said.

“We have a situation whereby our APC lawmakers in Plateau are being asked to sign their own resignation letters before they are sworn in. This is unacceptable. I thank the Governor of Kwara State, Governor of Nasarawa State and our party national chairman for their efforts. We also need and deserve more appointments in the region.”

Edo 2024: APC, PDP clash over alleged plot to manipulate CVR

    • It’s wrong to antagonise electoral commission – INEC

The main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are engaging in war of words over alleged  plot to manipulate the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and compromise INEC’s officials ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

Edo State APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Prince Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, a lawyer, yesterday at a news conference in Benin, alleged that the CVR by INEC, between May 28 and June 5, had been arranged to be compromised by some top officials of the electoral commission for PDP to rig the election in favour of its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

APC also called for immediate deployment of INEC’s Head of ICT in Edo state, who was accused of working closely with a female staff member of the electoral commission in Bayelsa State.

The party said: “It has become expedient that the APC raises this alarm, and bring to the notice of well-meaning Nigerians, the ignoble plans by PDP’s leaders in Edo State to circumvent and rig the 2024 governorship election, using the CVR as a formidable platform.

“We have on good authority and from multiple sources that some gullible officials of INEC in most of the 18 local government areas of Edo State, approached the outgoing Edo State government to provide them with ‘logistics’ for the CVR. In anticipation, these unpatriotic INEC officials have promised to allow the PDP unfettered access to INEC’s data capturing machines.

“APC also found that Governor Obaseki and his Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, INEC’s former Director, Voter Education and Publicity, are working closely with the Head of INEC’s ICT unit, so that PDP can manipulate the voter registers and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“We demand strict compliance with wards’ headquarters as INEC’s designated venues for the CVR, complete restriction of transfer of voters from neighbouring states during the CVR, and rejection of the use of Obaseki’s uniformed thugs as security during the CVR.”

Edo APC also expressed optimism that his standard bearer, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, would emerge victorious at the poll.

Reacting, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, described the  leaders of APC as confused and disgruntled people without anything to offer.

He said: “We are embarrassed that this is the quality of opposition the APC is offering in Edo State. We are interested in Edo people coming out to register during the CVR exercise. That is what governments do. Also, political parties encourage the people to come out to register, because it is the votes of the people that decide who will govern them.

“When INEC graciously decided to resume registration of voters, we were excited, and as a government, we encouraged our people to come out because we believe that it is when more people register that the government can be held accountable.

“Edo residents are satisfied with what we are doing as a government, and they will all come out to vote for us. We are not saying that INEC is totally unbiased, but it has a duty to register voters, and we will give it whatever support it needs. Edo State government has nothing to do with the manipulation of CVR.”

Nehikhare also alleged that APC’s “ignorant” members and leaders in Edo were not prepared for the governorship poll, but rabble-rousing and trying to impress their paymasters.

INEC’s Spokesman in Edo, Timidi Wariowei, in his reaction, reiterated that the electoral umpire held stakeholders’ meeting in Benin on May 16, which was attended by leaders of PDP, APC and the 14 other participating political parties.

Wariowei said: “Our doors are open. It is not good to antagonise the electoral commission, when its officials have not done anything wrong. It is not fair to INEC and its officials. This is not the way to go.

“If anyone has anything to say, the person should come to the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Edo State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha. It is wrong to dish out those allegations.”

The spokesman of INEC in Edo also assured that the commission would conduct free, fair and credible governorship election in the state, while urging politicians and their supporters not to heat up the polity but to give peace a chance, as they campaign in the 192 wards of Edo.

Ogun APC attacks Daniel over Agro-Cargo Airport claim

The local chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State yesterday took on former governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel over his remarks on some ongoing projects in Gateway State.

Daniel, now the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District allegedly claimed in a media chat that he initiated some projects, including the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport, which were under reported due to ‘bad press’.

The airport project, which was kicked-off three years ago by the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, has the longest runway and largest apron in Nigeria and on the West Africa corridor.

APC reacted through a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, who dismissed the former governor’s claim as nothing but a “product of hallucination by a serial failure”.

He insisted that the lawmaker did nothing to suggest seriousness of his administration to build any airport in the state, adding that the former governor in his usual character merely announced the proposed airport and the intending location as mere political statement for immediate gains.

According to Oladunjoye, the area proposed for the airport by the Daniel administration remained a thick forest, alleging that the former governor played politics with the project.

He said: “Gbenga Daniel,  after announcing construction of an Airport in the year 2006, the area earmarked for the project remained a tick forest till 2019 when Prince Dapo Abiodun came into the saddle. Daniel’s successor, Ibikunle Amosun did not even open the file of the proposed Airport throughout his eight years in office.

“The recent interview of having the grand or master plan for what Governor Dapo Abiodun has been accomplishing is not only self-ridiculing, it is simply a sheer hallucination of an acceptance of failure on the part of Daniel.

“His interview and comment on Governor Dapo Abiodun reek of deep envy and insensitive lack of modesty,” Oladunjoye said.

    • Party faults suspension of national, Zamfara chairmen

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration will soon train and equip Forests Rapid Response Squad with modern technology to tackle banditry and kidnapping.

Ganduje said members of the forest squad, who would be trained and kitted with modern equipment, would be stationed in forests to deter bandits, kidnappers and other criminals from using such places for nefarious activities.

The APC national chairman spoke during the party’s Northwest stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna.

He said: “We must train Forest Rapid Respond Squads that are stationed within the forests with their houses and infrastructural facilities within the forests. We must train them, equip them and provide technology in our forests so that we can take over completely.

“If we succeed in doing that, then the issue of banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery will be eventually resolved.

“Enough is enough for the large scale insecurity in some part of the country, including our own geopolitical zone. We must all work together to ensure the security of lives and property of our people. This is the cardinal objective of any government in power.”

Also, the APC has described as unconstitutional the suspension of its national chairman and the Zamfara State chairman of the party, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani.

Former Edo Assembly Speaker Okiye rejoins APC

Former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Francis Okiye, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said ‘in a democracy, votes matter’.

Okiye resigned his membership of the PDP on May 10.

He said: “Many politicians from PDP and Labour Party (LP) joined the APC on Sunday in Esanland. Prior to today (yesterday), we met, discussed and asked the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government to address the issues of alienation, disillusionment, high-handedness and despotic tendencies. Nothing was done about our requests. So, we the ‘aborigines’ in PDP decided to give the Obaseki-led PDP a red card.

“My movement to APC will help the party. In a democracy, votes matter. So, my exit from PDP is a minus to the party, whether anybody likes to interpret it otherwise or not. If they are democrats, they will know that at least they have lost my vote, not to talk of many others that moved with me to APC.

“We will begin the house-to-house campaign soon, and let people know why they must leave PDP and join the APC. They must vote APC’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, that is humane, and not business people who are in the state to make profit.”

Okiye added that PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is no match for Okpebholo, ‘a grassroots politician who will be victorious on September 21, and succeed Obaseki on November 12’.

Babayemi, Oyedokun and their supporters were at the weekend received into the APC by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. Adegboyega, in a statement yesterday, said the defection shows that APC is getting prepared for 2026.

They bring with them a wealth of experience, integrity, and a shared vision for the future of Osun State.

“The decision of Oyedokun and Babayemi to join the APC is a testament to our party’s growing appeal, and our commitment to inclusivity, development, and good governance. APC chieftain urges Tinubu to redress past injustice

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State Chief Joseph Folorunso Alake has urged President Bola Tinubu to redress past injustices under the previous administration.

He complained that he was unfairly treated by the former Aviation minister, who refused to Inaugurate the Board of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, following his nomination as a member by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

Alake, Erungbua of Obalu Quarters in Efon-Alaaye and former ex-officio of the ruling party that metamorphosed in Ekiti APC, lamented that the non-inauguration of the board of meteorological agency constituted a mockery of party loyalty, hardwork and commitment to the platform.

He urged President Tinubu to investigate why the board was not allowed to take off and compensate the chairman and members.

Alake said in a statement that the refusal of the minister to inaugurate the board was an affront on the government, the party and deprived nominees.

  • North APC stakeholders meet in Kaduna, say Ganduje’s suspension unconstitutional

North APC stakeholders meet in Kaduna, say Ganduje’s suspension unconstitutional

All Progressives Congress (APC) in the northwest on Sunday, May 19, held its inaugural stakeholders meeting in Kaduna, condemning the recent suspensions of its members and declaring it unconstitutional, null and void.

The stakeholders noted that any suspension must follow due process and be ratified by the National Working Committee before such can be legal.

The Nation recall that the APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the chairman of APC Zamfara state, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani were recently suspended by ward executives of the party.

Speaking at the inaugural stakeholders meeting, the APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Hon Garba Datti Muhammad, declared that the suspensions were carried out by impostors and moles in the party and did not follow due process, saying they are unconstitutional, null and void.

Addressing the meeting which was attended by APC officials, ministers, governors, National Assembly members, state assembly members and former political office holders, who are APC members, Muhammad said the meeting was convened to deliberate on issues of common interest to the party in the Northwest zone.

“A fundamental issue that must be addressed is the spate of suspensions that has become a trend whereby the party, particularly at ward level, purportedly suspends prominent party members. The latest example is Zamfara state. We are aware that the problems in Kano and Zamfara states, are being instigated by individuals impersonating as members of our party but who are actually moles working for the opposition parties.

“Let me make it clear that, under our amended Constitution, no organ of the party at any level has the power to suspend members of the party from the party until due process has been complied with at all levels after which the National Working Committee (NWC) has the final say. In other words, no member of our party can be suspended without recourse to the NWC. To state it in clear terms, such suspensions are unconstitutional, null and void and the status quo ante remains!”

The governor of Kaduna and coordinating governor of APC in the Northwest, Uba Sani, in his address tasked the party to imbibe internal part democracy in order to sustain it’s progression.

“I urge us to always adopt the consensus approach to the resolution of pressing issues. It’s a win -win approach that helps in building and sustaining peace and unity. We must however pay serious attention to internal party democracy. When we operate according to the Constitution and guidelines of our party, friction will be lessened and litigation would be reduced.

“Since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, he has been moving decisively to tackle Nigeria’s multitude of security and developmental challenges. He has initiated far-reaching reforms to reflate the Nigerian economy and combat soaring inflation. President Tinubu has demonstrated courage and commitment to win the war against terrorism, banditry, insurgency, kidnapping. He has been working closely with governors of the Northwest and other key stakeholders to address our security and developmental challenges.”

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting signed by the coordinating Governor of the Northwest, Governor Sani said: “The meeting activated its internal dispute resolution mechanism to resolve pending issues, and chart the pathway to a more formidable zonal structure that will ensure victory for our dear party in future elections. The meeting commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the fulfilment of his campaign promises to the Nigerian people.

“The meeting noted the decisive steps so far taken by the President in tackling Nigeria’s multitude of security and developmental challenges, and the far-reaching reforms he has initiated to reflate the economy and combat soaring inflation. The meeting equally commended the various security agencies working tirelessly to maintain and enhance security in the zone.

“The meeting commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, Senators and members of the House of Representatives for crafting and vigorously pursuing the passage of the North West Development Commission Bill. The meeting urged members of the National Assembly to give the bills expeditious consideration in the interest of national cohesion and even development.

“The meeting wishes to commend Mr. President for his commitment towards the speedy completion of key projects in the northwest zone, including the Abuja – Kaduna – Kano Highway, the Sokoto – Badagry Road Project, the Sokoto – Zamfara – Katsina – Kaduna Road Project, the Kano – Katsina dual carriageway,  the Ajaokuta – Kaduna – Kano Gas Pipeline, the Lagos – Kaduna – Kano – Katsina – Maradi Rail Project. These projects have the potentials of boosting economic activities, mitigating poverty, enhancing security, and helping in forging understanding and friendship among the citizens of Nigeria.”

The meeting was attended by the national chairman of the APC, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abass, the governors of Kaduna state Uba Sani, Katsina state, Dikko Radda, Jigawa state, Umar Namadi, Kebbi state, Nasir Idris and Deputy Governor of Sokoto state.

Also in attendance are the ministers of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, Defence, Abubakar Badaru, State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Environment Balarabe Lawal and special adviser to the President on policy and coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman.

Also in attendance are former governors of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari and Kaduna state, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, former speaker Kaduna state House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Zailani among other serving national and state assembly members.
