Ex-national chairman Adamu still in APC – Keffi LG chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Soja, has dismissed rumours that former Governor Abdullahi Adamu has left the party.

Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, Soja said as party chairman in Adamu’s local government, he could authoritatively confirm that the former APC National Chairman remains an active member of the party, fully participating in activities from ward to state level.

He explained that Senator Adamu is currently championing the Nasarawa West Governorship project under the APC platform and has been firm in insisting that the party zone the 2027 governorship election to Nasarawa West.

Describing Adamu as the leader of the APC in Nasarawa West Senatorial District and a senior stakeholder in the state, Soja stressed that the former governor remains committed to ensuring the party’s success at all levels.

He urged the public to disregard claims that Senator Adamu had defected to the coalition ADC, calling it baseless and misleading.

Oyo 2027: Oladele hosts APC secretaries, PROs across Oyo 33 LGAs

    …promises to strengthen party unity

The 66 local government secretaries and PROs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have showered praises on APC governorship aspirant and Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland, Oloye Saheed Oladele, during a special event he hosted on Saturday in Bodija, Ibadan.

Welcoming the party stakeholders, Princess Funmilola Balogun commended them for honouring Oladele’s invitation, noting that the meeting was aimed at fostering familiarity and discussing ways to advance Oyo State through his governorship ambition.

In his remarks, Oladele expressed gratitude for the turnout of notable APC members from across the 33 local governments, stressing that party unity and cohesion remain paramount to him.

He explained that his aspiration to govern Oyo State stems from a conviction that the state deserves better across all sectors.

Outlining his agenda, Oladele pledged to prioritise local government autonomy and education. He criticised the current administration for starving LGAs of their statutory allocations, which he said has hindered grassroots development.

He vowed that under his leadership, all 33 local governments would develop evenly, with full control of their funds.

Fielding questions from the party stakeholders, the Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland asserted that it is only the emergence of a credible and marketable governorship candidate from the APC that would ensure victory for the party in Oyo State at the polls in 2027.

Responding to Oloye Oladele on behalf of all the secretaries and PROs present, the party secretary in Ibadan North East local government, Mr Maruf Lawal Adeyemi, expressed that Baàmẹ̀kọ́ was the first guber aspirant ever in the history of Oyo State to accord them recognition by inviting them to a political consultation, a statement unanimously echoed by all the secretaries and PROs present.

He said Baàmẹ̀kọ́ could be appropriately called ‘Koṣẹlẹri’ because of the novel idea of inviting them to the meeting for consultation. They advised Oloye Oladele to continue to engage the top echelon of APC at the federal level, the apex leaders in the state, and the grassroots leaders in the local government areas.

  • 2027: North-central APC forum to Tinubu: Call opposition govs to order

2027: North-central APC forum to Tinubu: Call opposition govs to order

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to caution opposition governors accused of harassing and intimidating APC members in their states.

The forum warned that the President’s continued cordial relationship with such governors could demoralize party members and weaken the APC’s strength ahead of upcoming elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the forum’s chairman, Salleh Zazzaga, urged the President and his inner circle to “stop entertaining” opposition governors, accusing them of pretending loyalty while undermining the APC in their respective states.

“The North-Central APC Forum urges President Bola Tinubu to stop entertaining opposition governors who go to him with deception and lies.

“They say nice things when they meet Mr President, but when they go back to their states, they do a different thing altogether,” the statement read.

The Forum, however, alleged that such governors were using their proximity to the President to strengthen their political positions while frustrating APC members at home.

“They pretend to be nice when they come before Mr President but when they leave his presence and go back to their States they take actions that are against the interest of Mr President and the APC.

“These governors harass and intimidate innocent APC members in their states. They go as far as using the instruments of government to frustrate the legitimate businesses of law-abiding APC members who are working hard to survive,” the Forum claimed.

According to the statement, APC members in opposition-controlled States have faced harassment, with some seeing their businesses targeted or their properties marked for demolition.

It stressed that the trend was particularly worrisome in the North Central region and warned that it could send the wrong signal to party loyalists nationwide.

“Continuing to entertain these opposition governors would give the wrong and false impression that President Bola Tinubu is in support of their victimization of APC members in their states,” the statement added.

The Forum further noted that the situation was especially concerning as some of the governors in question face re-election contests in off-cycle polls.

It accused them of invoking Tinubu’s name to bolster their credibility while simultaneously weakening APC candidates.

“This has become even more imperative as we approach elections in some states led by the opposition, where the incumbent governors, who are not members of our party, are dropping Mr President’s name, claiming to have secured his endorsement while they at the same time unleash the machinery of the state against APC candidates and members,” the Forum said.

The group urged the President to focus more on his party members and to withdraw “unmerited privileges” currently enjoyed by opposition leaders who, in its view, are exploiting his accommodating nature.

“If they wish to defect to the APC they should defect and become part of the APC family. They should not go to Mr President and tell him nice things only to do the opposite behind his back. That is unacceptable.

“Ahead of the off-cycle elections and the 2027 election, Mr President should focus all attention on the APC and its members,” the Forum insisted.

Calling on the President to act swiftly, the Forum warned that unchecked intimidation of APC supporters could erode the party’s strength in key States and weaken its overall prospects.

  • Enugu APC stakeholders threaten protest over alleged plot to stop Mbah’s defection

Enugu APC stakeholders threaten protest over alleged plot to stop Mbah’s defection

Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State have threatened to stage a protest in Abuja if alleged efforts by certain party leaders to prevent Governor Peter Mbah from defecting to the APC persist.

The stakeholders, drawn from the six local government areas of Enugu East Senatorial District, made the threat during their weekend meeting in Enugu.

They specifically urged the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, to concentrate on his national assignment instead of opposing Mbah’s anticipated defection.

Key figures at the meeting included former APC state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye; former Nigerian ambassador to Ukraine, Gen. Christian Ugwu (rtd.); Professor Hilary Edoga, immediate past Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; former governorship candidate, Chief Gab Nnamani; Chief Anike Nwoga; Hon. Hyacinth Ngwu; and Mrs. Juliet Egbo.

Dr. Nwoye argued that Governor Mbah’s entry into the APC could help reverse the party’s poor electoral performance in Enugu, noting that his developmental achievements have already won the support of the people.

“Our plan is to reverse APC’s abysmal performance in Enugu. The rumours are everywhere that Mbah should move to APC because he has performed. Those putting a wedge to stop him don’t want APC to win in Enugu, but we won’t allow that,” Nwoye stated.

He argued that Governor Mbah’s achievements in roads, schools, hospitals, and security had even earned commendation from President Bola Tinubu despite their different political affiliations.

Chief Anike Nwoga warned that if the minister and others continued to “spread hate” and block Mbah, the stakeholders would march to the Presidency to demand Nnaji’s removal from office.

“APC hasn’t won any major seat in Enugu before. If Peter comes over, the party will begin to win. Some of them want APC to lose in 2027 so they can sit tight in their Abuja appointments,” he alleged.

Professor Hilary Edoga maintained that Enugu APC would be “marginalizing itself” if it rejected Mbah, urging party leaders to emulate states like Akwa Ibom and Delta where governors are allowed to lead the party.

On his part, Gen. Christian Ugwu pledged support for the governor’s defection, insisting that competence, not personal ambition, should guide APC’s interest in Enugu.

“We have a more competent man in Mbah. That’s why I’m joining those calling him to come to APC. We’ve already prepared grounds for him,” he said.

Mrs. Juliet Egbo added that if Mbah joined the APC, Enugu would enjoy greater federal attention like Imo and Ebonyi states.

The meeting ended with a unanimous call on the APC national leadership to support Governor Mbah’s entry into the party, warning that any attempt to frustrate the move could trigger mass protests by stakeholders from Enugu East.

  • Tambuwal’s grand illusion to sack APC government in Sokoto

Tambuwal’s grand illusion to sack APC government in Sokoto

    • By Abubakar Dan Ali

POLITICS is most often driven by ambition, but ambition can sometimes venture into the realm of delusion. This appears to be the case with Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, and Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, whose recent claim that he would “sack” the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government under Governor Ahmad Aliyu has drawn widespread disbelief across the state, because he clearly lacks the political strength.

For many Sokoto residents, who haven’t forgotten Tambuwal’s disastrous 8 years, the remarks are not only unrealistic but also an affront to their intelligence and lived experiences. His comments come across less as a serious political strategy and more as an attempt to stir waters that have remained largely calm under the current administration.

Tambuwal’s early posturing, especially when the elections are still two years away, has been rightly met with silence, not out of fear, but due to the maturity and focus of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, which continues to prioritise governance over rhetoric. He has refused to be distracted by the political tantrum of Aminu Tambuwal and his ilk.

The contrast between the administrations of Governor Aliyu and Tambuwal is sharp, in fact as sharp as darkness and light. In less than two years, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has delivered more tangible progress than what many citizens recall experiencing during Tambuwal’s eight years in office.

From infrastructure to healthcare and education, the current administration has taken decisive steps to improve lives. Projects that were once stalled have been completed. Communities that felt neglected are now experiencing developmental projects.

For example, road rehabilitation and expansion have been accelerated across the state, many of which had long suffered from neglect. In healthcare, the administration has been steadily revamping primary health centres, supplying essential drugs, and prioritising maternal and child care. In education, there’s been a vigorous investment in school renovations, teacher recruitment, and the supply of learning materials, all critical areas that were widely criticised under the previous government of Aminu Tambuwal.

These developments are visible to communities across Sokoto State.

But Tambuwal’s political miscalculation (delusion) doesn’t stop at Sokoto State. According to Tambuwal, he is equally working with like-minded people  to build a coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general elections.

While political ambition is part of democracy, the strategy appears rooted more in personal vendettas and political bitterness than in a clear, viable national agenda. Tambuwal, who was once positioned as a national bridge-builder, now seems to be rallying opposition elements not around issues, but around a shared resentment of the APC’s growing influence both at the centre and across the states.

But just as in Sokoto State, Tambuwal underestimates the strength of performance-based governance. President Tinubu’s administration has embarked on difficult but necessary reforms, stabilised national institutions, and maintained strategic alliances across regions. Any attempt to reverse this trajectory will require more than rhetoric and recycled alliances, and the opposition hasn’t shown any signs of having the capacity to deliver on its ambition.

Tambuwal may be aligning himself with a national opposition push, but if his track record in Sokoto State is anything to go by, his coalition may be built on shaky foundations.

When Tambuwal speaks of “sacking” a government that has delivered measurable improvements, whether at the state or federal level, it reflects a misreading of the current political climate. In today’s politics, credibility, performance, and connection to the grassroots matter more than ever. The era of absentee politicians coming during the election to hoodwink the voters is over.

Tambuwal’s administration, despite initial promise, left behind a trail of unfinished projects, demoralised civil servants, and public frustration. Public servants’ entitlements were left unpaid. Key sectors like water supply, rural development, and youth empowerment lag behind expectations, a reality that many Sokoto citizens have not forgotten.

To now attempt a political comeback and even broader national relevance without addressing that legacy is not only premature but presumptive.

What makes Tambuwal’s ambition more difficult is the growing consolidation of the APC in Sokoto State and nationally. Under Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s leadership, the party in Sokoto has evolved into a performance-driven movement with a strong grassroots foundation. The combination of Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Governor Aliyu would crush whatever opposition exists.

Across wards and communities, government initiatives are being implemented with a people-first approach. Unlike Tambuwal’s more top-down political style, Governor Aliyu’s administration has focused on inclusion and accountability, ensuring that citizens feel governance that they didn’t under Aminu Tambuwal.

The commitment to transparency in budgeting, project execution, and public communication has further strengthened the trust between the government and the governed.

This deepened relationship with the electorate will be difficult, if not impossible, for any challenger like Aminu Tambuwal to disrupt, especially one who is still attempting to rebuild lost political capital.

Let us use the familiar analogy, light versus darkness. Once people have seen what effective governance looks like with roads being built, schools improving, and services being delivered, it becomes difficult to convince them to return to a time when those same expectations went unmet.

Tambuwal may seek to rebrand himself as a political redeemer, but Sokoto voters would not be easily swayed by empty rhetoric. They have experienced both administrations and can judge for themselves.

The achievements of the APC government are not campaign fictions; they are real and ongoing. No volume of political posturing, whether locally or nationally, can erase what people see and experience daily.

Sokoto’s future trajectory appears firmly set. The APC under Governor Ahmad Aliyu has shown capacity, delivered results, and deepened its grassroots reach. These factors make it unlikely that any opposition, especially one with a poor record that is still fresh in public memory, will succeed in reversing the momentum. If only Tambuwal had built on the solid foundation laid by Senator Wamakko, Sokoto State would have been a paradise by 2031, after the second term of Governor Aliyu, which would definitely have been achieved.

Tambuwal’s desire to return to power may be legitimate in a democratic system. But ambition alone does not translate into support, especially when voters recall a tenure that left more questions than answers.

And on the national front, his boast to cobble together a coalition against President Bola Tinubu may face the same reality check. Nigerians are watching performance, and not political noise.

The people of Sokoto and, increasingly, Nigerians have tasted the dividends of progress, and by all indications, they are unwilling to trade it for uncertainty.

Aminu Tambuwal may continue his political theatre, but the act of governance, which is being delivered by Governor Aliyu, who has prioritised performance over propaganda, is the difference.

There is no doubt that in Sokoto State today, and indeed across Nigeria, performance speaks louder than promises. Aminu Tambuwal will certainly retire in 2027.

  • APC, LP align on Anambra’s poor performance rating

APC, LP align on Anambra’s poor performance rating

    • It’s politically motivated, says Soludo

The two main opposition parties in Anambra State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP), have aligned with the recent index rating released by Phillips Consulting Limited.

According to the 2025 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index (PSPI), Anambra State was ranked 3rd in the country on a functional basic education facility to population ratio.

The report highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the state in 2025 while gauging citizens’ satisfaction on a host of issues like quality of roads, security, and the state of public hospitals.

The state also ranked 33rd in capital expenditure per capita, reflecting limited reinvestment into public infrastructure.

On public healthcare, the PSPI report ranked Anambra 30th in the nation, reflecting a drop in health service delivery.

The organisation also placed Anambra State second to the last in Nigeria, a little above Zamfara State.

Reacting to the slide in the performance rating, the Anambra State Chairman of the APC, Sir Basil Ejidike, described the current administration of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)  in Anambra as the worst in the country in terms of infrastructure, Insecurity and other crimes.

Ejidike, while speaking with The Nation on the phone Friday, said the report by the PCL should be the kind any reasonable person who had the interest of the state at heart would give.

He said the Anambra State governor, Prof Charles Soludo, had failed the people and residents in every way, adding that the infrastructural decay, killings, kidnappings, including other crimes had taken over the state, adding that the APC had heard the cries and lamentations of the people already.

“APGA is not a political party; they are only in the state by default. The only state they are holding at the juggler while the people live in bondage. We commend PCL for its sincere assessment.”

Also, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the state, Dr George Moghalu, did not hesitate in heaping praises on the PCL for what he described as its honest rating

Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) told The Nation that the opinion of PCL had been what everybody had been saying, adding that Soludo and his party had failed the people of Anambra State.

    Report politically motivated, says Soludo

While the organisation rated Anambra state as one of the worst in insecurity and infrastructure, the government described the rating as politically motivated.

Speaking with The Nation on Friday in Awka, Anambra State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mafor, described those behind such a rating as being blind, adding that the literacy level of the state alone stands at 92.7%.

“Some people are sponsoring nonsense because of the election. All these are pure politics. The literacy level of Anambra alone is 92.7% and yet, we are rated alongside Zamfara, Borno and Yobe States.

“They should go and emulate organisations such as UNICEF, who are seeing clearly and check the recent Peer Review of the organisation and how Anambra State is placed.

“This government of Governor Soludo is a busy one and not ready to engage in altercations with anyone or group because the people are seeing with their eyes that their votes in the 2021 election were not in vain because of the administration’s performance.

“Let’s talk about performance a little. What is infrastructure? They are building schools. Are hospitals not part of it? Such projects made Soludo win awards as the Best Governor in this country from reputable organisations.

“This administration has built five brand new general hospitals in this state in addition to the three the state had before, bringing the number to eight. Which state in Nigeria can boast of that?

“It is like my own meaning of infrastructure is different from what others know. Today, almost 600 kilometres of roads have been asphalted, and many more are ongoing. Is that what some groups of people call under-performance?”

“We have over 200 upgraded schools, brand new government house in Anambra, which is only second to Aso Rock in this country. This government has done Amawbia -Ekwulobia- Uga road Federal highway. Are they not part of infrastructure and social amenities?

“Is water not part of infrastructure? The state is offering free education. How many States in Nigeria are doing that? People should look for other things to talk about, and not about performance by the Prof Chukwuma Soludo government, because no state comes second to Anambra, and that is why everybody in the state is saying, Solution is here.”

Mefor said as far as he was concerned, the entire index performance ratio boiled down to politics because the election was close, adding, ” they are sponsored “

Also, in a statement by the commissioner for Budget and Planning, Chiamaka Nnake, the office rejected the report, saying the PCL 2025 report produced results that were not only misleading but risk damaging its own professional reputation.

“Phillips Consulting Limited, once renowned for its expertise in human resource services, now appears to have veered into areas far beyond its traditional competence. Everyone now rushes into the business of ‘ranking’ as the fad in town.

“While it is not wrong for a firm to broaden its scope, such ventures demand rigorous training, capacity development, and methodological soundness. Without these, credibility is compromised, and reputations are put at risk.

“The 2025 PCL State Performance Index raises fundamental questions: What capacity does PCL have to rank Nigerian states?

“How was this research designed, and on what basis were such sweeping conclusions drawn?”

Consolidated APC grassroots movement pledges 10 million votes for Tinubu

The Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CaGram) has pledged to deliver 10 million direct grassroots votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

CaGram, which boasted of being the umbrella body for over 70 percent of APC registered support groups with over 1.2 million active members nationwide, said each member has been mandated to mobilise at least ten grassroots votes, translating into formidable electoral bloc for President Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking with journalists, the Deputy National Chairman of CaGram, Hon. Abia lawmaker dumps APC for Labour Party

The lawmaker representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party (LP).

Speaking in Umuahia, the state capital, Akaliro said his decision was personal and driven by his conviction that Governor Alex Otti has, in the past two years, demonstrated leadership and commitment in delivering democratic dividends to the people of Abia State.

According to him, the governor’s leadership style has made it difficult for him to play the role of an opposition lawmaker, hence his decision to join forces with the administration to further support governance in the state.

“Today, I have seen the light,” Akaliro said. “I have watched His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, closely to understand where he is coming from and where he is headed. Based on what he has done so far for the good of our state, I have decided to join him in the Labour Party (LP).”

He pledged to work with the governor in ensuring that more democratic dividends reach the residents and citizens of Abia State.

“Abia is number one in virtually everything, cutting across the nooks and crannies of the state. I am proud to say that, truly, I am an Abian.

“Judging from his (Otti’s) antecedents and what he has done, I thought that he was a banker, but I never knew that he was a seasoned administrator; he came prepared for the job, and today, I am really happy, and my constituents are excited that I have decided to join the moving train. I know that he is taking us to the proper destination, and Abia has always rejoiced. Abia will be happy with him and will continue to be happy with him.

“The governor has done well in the education sector. He has also done well in infrastructure, roads, houses, smart schools, name it, cutting across the length and breadth of Abia State; even the blind can see that this man came prepared for the work, and he is doing it seamlessly.

“As a former opposition member, Dr. Alex Otti made my job very difficult, because I have nothing to criticize him with. Even when the thought comes up for me to criticize him, the next moment, he (Otti) is doing it, so, makes it difficult for me to criticize him. I have no other choice but to join him because I know that he is the right man for this job, and I want to say that no other person can do it better than him.”

Tinubu’s reforms paying off, says APC chair

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bold economic reforms as necessary and beneficial, insisting that the removal of fuel subsidy enjoyed nationwide support before it was implemented.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Yilwatda noted that from civil society to opposition politicians, there was broad agreement that subsidy had become unsustainable and that the reforms were inevitable.

According to him, the policy decisions taken by the Tinubu administration such as subsidy removal, exchange rate unification and tax reforms are already yielding dividends across the country.

Yilwatda highlighted that revenues accruing to the Federation Account have risen significantly. He disclosed that while monthly allocations previously averaged about ₦500 billion, the figure has now soared to about ₦2 trillion, boosting the fiscal health of the federal, state and local governments.

“No state is unable to pay salaries today. Governors who once struggled to meet wage obligations are now doing so with ease, thanks to the improved revenue inflow,” he said.

The APC chairman added that the reforms have strengthened financial stability across the three tiers of government, empowering them to focus more on development and service delivery.

He maintained that the administration’s economic choices, though tough at the onset, are laying the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity, stressing that Nigerians would ultimately enjoy the full benefits as the reforms continue to take root.
