2027: APC will win Kano without Kwankwaso

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Hon. Seyi Olorunsola, has declared that the party will comfortably deliver President Bola Tinubu, its governorship candidate, and all APC flagbearers in the 2027 general elections without the involvement of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has reportedly indicated interest in joining the ruling APC but on “strong promises” from the president and party leadership.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Sunday, Olorunsola, Convener of the Tinubu/Barau/Atah Movement, said President Tinubu and APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda were giving Kwankwaso undue attention.

He maintained that Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Minister of State for Housing Yusuf Abdullahi Atah, and Senator Kawu Sumaila had the political strength to secure Kano for APC in 2027.

According to him, Atah from Kano Central would counter Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while Jibrin and former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje hold sway in Kano North. Sumaila, he added, commands strong support in Kano South.

Olorunsola further revealed that the Tinubu/Barau/Atah Movement has adopted Barau Jibrin as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election, with Atah as his running mate.

He said, “Now, Kwankwaso is aware of this arrangement and is afraid of Barau’s growing popularity in the state; that is why he is desperate to join APC and scuttle that arrangement and ensure an easy re-election for his godson, Abba Yusuf. Otherwise, what are the ‘strong promises’ he is talking about?

“In 2019, we defeated Kwankwaso when he sponsored Abba Yusuf on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“In 2023, we won the governorship election at the polls; we won at the tribunal; and we won at the Court of Appeal, and the whole world knows what happened overnight. The Supreme Court decided not in our favour.

“The tribunal and Court of Appeal affirmed our victory, saying they thumb-printed illegal ballot papers.

“Everyone knows that Kwankwaso is not a member of the NNPP and cannot bargain for anything on behalf of a party he does not belong to.

“President Tinubu should not make the mistake of relying on Kwankwaso as the person who will deliver him in Kano.

“Therefore, Kwankwaso cannot just join the party because he has spoken with the president or national chairman of the party. We are aware of all the negative things he has spoken against President Tinubu and Ganduje.

“He cannot just come to APC like that and begin to pursue people. He has to start from his state, local government council, and most importantly, his ward.

“Like Dr. Ganduje has told him, he must obey the APC’s rules and regulations, the constitution, and the party’s principles and ideologies.

“Why is Kwankwaso talking about a letter, submitted or not submitted, on social media? He should come out clearly that he is not interested in joining the APC.”

“In 2023 election, we came up with 600,000 votes for Mr. President. We may also note that the President has done extremely well in Kano state in terms of critical projects such as roads, among others.

“The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road is almost completed. Kano-Maiduguri sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 almost completed. Kano-Katsina project almost completed. That project will cost more than one billion US dollars and, of course, is going to be one of the most important projects in Northern Nigeria.

“So for someone to say, Mr. President is not interested in the North or in Kano State is all politics. And Kano State in 2027 will come all out and vote the President and APC Governor Isha Allah as well as our three central districts and members of the House of Representatives of the states,” the lawmaker stated at the meeting.”

“We acknowledge and commend your unflinching passion and commitment at promoting and rallying support for Mr. President ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

APC berates Osun NLC chairman, says leadership now PDP campaigner

The leadership of All Progressives Congress(APC), Osun State, on Friday berated the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, saying he has turned himself into a campaigner of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and Governor Ademola Adeleke.

APC, through its Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi, in a statement, said Arapasopo featured on a popular radio programme and was busy campaigning for the re-election of Governor Adeleke.

He said: “To the consternation of the right-thinking members of the society, the obviously compromised state NLC chairman, who was calling the state APC unprintable names throughout the duration of the programme, further enjoined the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to continue with the ongoing seven-month-old strike.

“It is obvious that the state NLC under the leadership of Arapasopo has confirmed the public suspicion that the supposed organized labour union has turned itself into an arm of the PDP in the state.”

“Why would it be the preoccupation of a labour leader to flagrantly jettison labour-related issues that are beneficial to the welfare of his members and prioritize the defence of the government of the day?”

“We, as a party, are cautioning Arapasopo to desist from hiding under the statutory refuge of the labour leadership to turn himself into the megaphone of Governor Adeleke for whatever might have been the personal irresistible attraction.”

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Labour Movement, in a statement jointly signed by the NLC chair, Christopher Arapasopo, Trade Union Congress(TUC), Bimbo Fasasi, and Joint Negotiation Council(JNC), Lekan Adediran, berated the APC over the verbal attack on the NLC chair.

“We strongly condemn in totality the verbal assault on the State’s number one Labour Leader, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, by the Osun Chapter of APC. We view this incident as an affront to the fundamental rights and liberties of the trade union force, and an alarming manifestation of the usual tyrannical tendencies displayed by APC in the State.”

They noted that “Our struggle for workers’ rights and social justice will not be deterred by acts of tyranny. Together, we shall prevail in our pursuit of a just and equitable society, where the rights and dignity of all workers and pensioners are upheld and protected.”

NNPP not part of Kwankwaso’s plans to join APC – Secretary

The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Dr. Ogini Olaposi says plans to join the APC is by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya Movement and not the party.

The NNPP scribe gave the clarification in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP on Saturday,  declared that his supporters and him  are now ready to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso, however,  warned that his political movement will not allow itself to be used to win elections and then abandoned afterwards.

Reacting to the situation, Olaposi said that by the declaration, Kwankwaso has finally admitted that he and his movement are not part of the NNPP.

“At  last we have been vindicated. All negotiations by any party with Kwankwaso should be done on his individual capacity.

“Our party will now  rest from the Movement’s  resistance after they were expelled for anti party activities.

“The NNPP has nothing against the ruling party and if at any point ahead of the 2027 general elections we think we should enter into alliance with APC  or any other, it will be decided by all members.

“For now, we are putting our house in order ahead of elections nationwide after the crisis and litigations that Kwankwaso and his followers brought to the NNPP.”

According to Olaposi, the  Memorandum of Understanding between the Kwankwasiya  Movement and NNPP ended after the 2023 presidential election.

“The crisis began because rather than leave peacefully,  they began to plan to hijack the party. We can’t wait to see them in another party,” he said.

The national secretary  said that Kwankwaso  no longer has a political  platform and majority of his followers in Kano joined the APC long before now.

“Kwankwaso has no political party. His political value dipped after betraying the NNPP that gave him a free platform for his presidential ambition and when the strategic members of the movement   joined the ruling party.

“Nigerians who negotiate  with Kwankwaso and his group  should know that it is on his right as a citizen but not as a member  of  the NNPP.

“Any negotiation in the name of NNPP is null and void  because they remain expelled from our party.”

The NNPP chieftain lamented the delay by INEC in uploading  the party’s new executive after a court ordered convention that produced the Dr Agbo Major led executive,” he added.
