Automatic tickets in APC will consolidate democracy, says NPF

Automatic second-term tickets for All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and federal lawmakers will consolidate democracy, a socio-political group has said.

The Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) told reporters yesterday in Abuja that giving automatic second-term tickets will be in line with democratic best practices, as it is done in established political systems.

Chairman of NPF, Alhaji Ali Abacha, said: “From Washington to Westminster, continuity is the cornerstone of vibrant democracies.

“It is time Nigeria embraced this reality by ensuring that experienced lawmakers and visionary leaders continue to shape our democratic journey.

“We call on the leadership of the APC to demonstrate statesmanship by institutionalising this bold policy of automatic tickets for the President, all sitting APC governors eligible for re-election, and all serving APC legislators in the National Assembly,” he said.

The NPF also expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for what it described as “far-reaching and courageous economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

While acknowledging the challenges, the group emphasised that economic experts and global institutions have recognised the reforms as necessary to rescue Nigeria from imminent collapse.

The NPF urged Nigerians across all party lines to rally behind President Tinubu and resist efforts by “disgruntled opposition elements fanning the embers of disunity.”

The group stressed that party supremacy and unity must be respected as a foundation for sustainable progress.

It called for automatic tickets in APC-held constituencies while supporting primaries in opposition-held areas.

“We must promote inclusivity, unity, and strategic continuity. The time for political brinkmanship is over.

“The future of our democracy demands experience, cohesion, and vision,” the group said.

It also reiterated its unwavering support for the President and the APC, urging all party members to rally around this noble cause in the interest of national stability and democratic advancement.

    APC forum endorses Tinubu

Akoko Political Leaders Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has adopted and endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

It said President Tinubu remained its sole presidential candidate to complete his economic reforms.

This was announced at the meeting of leaders and stakeholders of APC from the four local governments of Akoko Northeast, Akoko Southeast, Akoko Southwest and Akoko Northwest.

They also passed vote of confidence in Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for putting the state on the world map of socio-economic, political, commercial and infrastructure development.

Convener of the meeting, Victor Olabimtan, said it was the first time party members would come together from the four local governments to strategise and speak with one voice.

He said voting in a new administration in 2027 would destroy President Tinubu’s economic policies.

The former Speaker said their support for Tinubu’s re-election was to appreciate him for steering the nation through difficult times and putting it firmly on economic recovery and growth.

According to him, “the coming of all political leaders, elders of the party, present and past political office holders together from various local government and various parties to support a common cause signals progress and unity in Akoko land.

“Akoko people have spoken in one voice and very loud. In order for the country to remain on the faster path and lane of prosperity.

“President Tinubu should be adopted by all as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election, for a second term in office.

“You don’t change a winning team, President Tinubu is performing and living to expectation and I am proud to say this that Nigeria is fortunate to have at the helm of affairs a visionary; forthright, knowledgeable, courageous, focussed and a reformist like him.

“Looking through his economic reforms, you will notice that government has been able to earn more revenue, particularly after blocking the loopholes and leakages.

“Tinubu is working towards leaving a legacy, make a significant shift in the nation’s development, and i can tell you that Mr President is intentional about the country’s future” speaking said the Akoko political leaders and people of the area have agreed to support the President as the sole Presidential candidate for the party.

Other political leaders that sent representatives to the stakeholders meeting, include the Minister of interior Olubunmi Ojo, Senator Jide lpinsagba, National Assembly member representing Akoko South-West/Akoko South-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati.

A former lawmaker in the state, Akogun Gbenga Omole said Aiyedatiwa has no room for abandoned projects.

“That is why he is busy completing the projects initiated by his predecessor while busy inaugurating several new projects to make life more comfortable for our people.

“This is our government and the governor surely deserves our unflinching support. I urge you all to let us rally round him to ensure that he did not just succeed but that he enjoys peaceful reign through utmost cooperation of party faithful.”

Nasarawa APC blasts ex-minister over defection from ruling party

The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described former Minister of Environment, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, as a mole and an untrustworthy politician, insisting his departure poses no threat to the party.

Reacting to Abdullahi’s resignation from the APC, the party said his exit was a welcome development and would not negatively affect its structure or success.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia by the party’s state publicity secretary, High Chief Otaru Douglas, the APC said it felt a sense of relief and joy over Abdullahi’s departure, adding that his “overbearing influence” would no longer be a burden on the party.

“The APC is a winning team and has no regrets losing him. He was never an asset but rather a liability,” the statement read.

“Since the news of the resignation of the former Minister of Environment from our great party, APC, we have been inundated with calls from the media on the position of the party with regards to what they termed a worst hit on our party.

“Contrary to the views out there, it is compelling, therefore, to state that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state welcomes the resignation of Barr Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, former Minister of Environment, from the party. We are not surprised by this development, as his actions and behaviour had long indicated his disloyalty to the party.

“Barr Abdullahi’s exit is a celebration for our great party, as he had become a liability rather than an asset. His consistent hobnobbing with opposition members and opposition to Governor Abdullahi A Sule’s administration for personal reasons demonstrates his lack of fidelity to the party’s ideals.

“While we wish him well in his future endeavours, we caution any party that might consider welcoming him to beware of the potential political disaster that may follow. His ingratitude and fair-weather approach to politics, staying only when it pleases him and assuming the role of a mole otherwise, make him an untrustworthy politician.

“The Hausa maxim, which posits thus: ‘Better to stay with a thief than a hypocrite, ‘ aptly describes Barr Abdullahi’s actions. We are relieved to be rid of him and wish him farewell.

“The APC remains strong and united, and his departure will not affect our party’s momentum, the statement declared.

The Lagos State APC spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, said this in a statement yesterday in Lagos.

There have been pockets of protests over the outcome of the primaries and a number of petitions to the Appeal Committee.

He said: “The party after receiving and considering the reports of the appeal has resolved to activate its internal mechanism for conflict resolution and reconciliation to ensure that we go into the elections as a united force.

“The committee has been decentralized for ease of operation and to deliver on its mandate on time.”

He noted that the Lagos East Senatorial District Reconciliation Committee is headed by Dr Lateef Ibirogba.

He identified other members of the committee in the district as Mr Saheed Afonja, Chief Sumbo Onitiri and Mrs Sade Bakare.

He said that the committees have two weeks to turn in their reports.

The State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, acknowledged the wealth of experience of the committee members whose membership cuts across various interests in the party.

He urged them to be painstaking and ensure that all aggrieved members are pacified and assured of better days.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the APC in Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its support for the outcome of the recently concluded party primary that produced Alhaji Abiodun Ishola Jimoh as the standard bearer in the forthcoming council chairmanship election.

A communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting and signed by top party stalwarts, the chairman, Otunba Adedeji, and the acting General Secretary, Shola Akande, the APC leaders condemned what they described as “incessant protests” aimed at discrediting the primary and the party’s image.

The party leadership accused a “sore loser” of orchestrating unrest for personal gain, warning that such actions risk sowing division within the ranks of the APC ahead of the local government elections.

“After a thorough review of the events following the May 10 primary at the APC State Secretariat in Acme, we concluded that the agitation from Agbado/Oke-Odo is being driven by self-serving interests bent on tarnishing the image of our party,” the communique read.

The leaders issued a stern directive to party faithful, advising against participation in any further protests “orchestrated to malign the image of the party,” stressing the need for unity and decorum among members.

“This victory did not happen by chance,” she said. “It is the reward of consistent dedication, collective focus, and the enduring truth that service speaks louder than slogans.”

The Mayoress also acknowledged the efforts of her team, party leaders, and stakeholders who worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth and successful primary process. She emphasised her commitment to building bridges and fostering unity within the party and the community.

Igando-Ikotun residents storm Lagos APC secretariat to oppose chairman’s re-election bid

Thousands of angry residents from the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Monday stormed the Lagos State APC Secretariat in Acme, Ikeja, to protest against the renomination of Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya for a second term as council chairman.

The demonstrators, wielding banners and placards, vehemently opposed Akinsanya’s candidacy and also voiced disapproval of former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain Enilolobo, whom they accused of backing Akinsanya.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Comrade Olokodana Bukhari warned the party leadership of the potential political backlash if Akinsanya is allowed to fly the party’s flag in the upcoming local government elections.

“Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya has been imposed as the party’s candidate for the coming polls. We are here to alert the party hierarchy that he is not fit to represent our LCDA. Endorsing his candidacy is a recipe for disaster in 2025 and could affect the APC’s fortunes in the 2027 general elections,” Bukhari said.

He further alleged that Akinsanya is a political puppet of Aregbesola and Enilolobo, claiming he failed to work for the party during previous elections and cannot be trusted to do so again.

Highlighting the LCDA’s stagnation under Akinsanya’s leadership, Bukhari lamented that the area consistently ranks at the bottom—56th or 57th—in the state’s monthly performance gazette, describing his administration as a symbol of underdevelopment.

‘All the protesters you are seeing here are residents of the LCDA without any political affiliations. We therefore called on the party hierarchy to review the candidature of Hon. Akinsanya, he stated.

A woman leader in the LCDA, Mrs Dayo Aderinmola said the party hierarchy should look into the allegations levelled against Hon. Akinsanya in the letter submitted because the LCDA is backward in terms of development.

The aggrieved protesters were later addressed by Dr.Adeola Jokomba, the APC state secretary, who assured them that their grievances would be looked into.

Dr.Jokomba warned the protesters not to allow the protest to be hijacked by miscreants. While signing the letter brought by the protesters, he assured them that the leader of the team, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, would be called before the end of the week.

Atiku, Amaechi, El-Rufai desperately united for power, says APC

The trio of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Malam Nasiru El-Rufai (Kaduna) came under scathing attack by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was over what the ruling party called a baseless allegation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC administration has weaponised poverty.

At the weekend, the three opposition figures accused Tinubu of failing to eradicate the scourge of poverty in the last two years of his administration.

They spoke in Abuja at 60th birthday anniversary of Amaechi, who was Transportation Minister between 2015 and 2023.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who described the allegation as baseless, said the trio should be ashamed for failing to achieve the feat attained in just two years during their stint on the corridors of power for a quarter of a century.

In a statement, Morka noted that instead of focusing on the birthday the trio, whom he described as “leading displaced rent-seekers”, they condescended into showcasing their frenzied desperation to grab power purely for their self-aggrandizement.

The statement reads: “These three individuals have occupied Nigeria’s highest political offices between 1999 and 2023, either as vice president, governors, or ministers, among other important positions.

“In all 24 years, the trio, individually or collectively, could not and did not eradicate poverty in their states or the country. They did not even attempt to address, let alone tackle, the structural challenges and distortions that stifled the economy and worsened poverty over the years.

“Rather, they reveled in mindless rent-seeking behavior, sold national assets to their cronies for mere pittance, engaged in corrupt and wasteful expenditures in their states, and relentlessly sponsored state violence against their own people.

“Take the case of Amaechi, the celebrant, who served for an unbroken total of 24 years – eight years as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, eight years as Governor of Rivers State, and eight years as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“That’s about a quarter of a century of freeloading by Amaechi on state resources, with absolutely no record of attempting to combat poverty in his Rivers State or the country.

“When Amaechi declared, ‘I am hungry,’ he must mean, and must be understood to mean, that he is hungry and desperate to return to his felt entitled dependency on state resources and patronage.

“That he is hungry barely two years out of office simply underscores the depth of the self-serving motivations of Amaechi and his coalition partners in their quest for power for selfish exploitation, and not for the interest of the people.”

Morka noted that the allegation by Amaechi and his co-voyagers was informed by the loss of grip on the economy which they have fleeced on for years.

He said: “Accustomed to fleecing the economy, they are now compelled by Tinubu’s unprecedented reforms to adapt to a new reality where hard work, productivity, and innovation are rewarded.

“Their criticisms of President Tinubu’s reforms are decidedly self-serving, driven by a desperate quest for power to satiate their voracious rent-seeking appetite, which has long stifled and denied progress to the economy.

“On contrary, it was the failure of previous administrations, particularly  16 years of PDP administrations, to allow the Naira to find its real value that created the economic conditions of poverty that the present administration is now addressing.

“The erstwhile artificially overvalued Naira stifled local production, encouraged import dependency, and exacerbated poverty. Ironically, Atiku and Peter Obi, who are now vociferously criticizing President Tinubu’s policies, amassed their wealth from the very import-dependent system they are desperately trying to preserve.

“Atiku, a former Custom Officer and Obi, a successful importer, reaped enormous benefits from the old system. Their criticisms reek of special interest masqueraded as concern for the people. By allowing market forces to determine the Naira’s value, the administration is taking necessary bold steps to catalyze economic growth, incentivize investment, boost competitiveness, and alleviate poverty.”

The party commended President Tinubu’s resilience in demonstrating political will to tackle structural barriers to the country’s economic growth and development far more than any other President in Nigeria’s modern history.

“By his bold economic reforms, President Tinubu is systematically building the most potent bulwark against poverty and positioning the economy to deliver sustained and sustainable growth and prosperity for all Nigerians.

“The criticisms variously leveled by Amaechi, Atiku, El-Rufai and Peter Obi mask a shameless attempt to perpetuate and cling to the old rent-seeking economy that enriched them at the expense of the Nigerian people.

“As beneficiaries of the corrupt and inefficient economic system, they are discomforted that Tinubu’s reforms are dismantling the insidious and permissive system that enabled and sustained their reckless plunder and exploitation of the economy.”

The ruling party however noted that Nigerians in productive sectors are reaping the benefits of reforms that have increased opportunities and income.

“Entrepreneurs, farmers, and service providers are thriving, while rent-seekers like Amaechi and his coalition partners are left seething with rage at the disruption of their ability to milk the system for personal gain as before.

“The removal of fuel subsidy has been a game-changer. It ended massive corruption that plagued the fuel subsidy enterprise, eliminated perennial shortages and queues at petrol stations, and has sparked a surge in investments in the oil and gas and other sectors of the economy, further expanding opportunities for businesses and individuals.

“The harmonization of multiple exchange rates has further bolstered Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global market for goods and capital. With increased revenue, the federal, state, and local governments are now investing more in critical infrastructure, education, health, security, and social welfare.

“Importantly, states that previously struggled to pay N30, 000 minimum wage are now paying a significantly higher minimum wage of N70,000 per month. This is a testament to the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians.

“The President’s reforms are dawning a new day for Nigeria, now witnessing economic transformation never before seen in our country’s history, driven by proper pricing of the Naira and fuel, and steadily transitioning the country from a consumption-laden to a production-oriented economic powerhouse.

“Our trade balances are seeing a drastic improvement, with a sharp decline in imports and a steep rise in exports, reporting impressive trade surpluses and economic growth rate of 4.6 per cent in the last quarter of 2024, representing the highest growth rate in a decade, amid significant decline in global price of crude oil.

“This turnaround is a direct testament to the government’s steadfast efforts to promote local production, entrepreneurship, and economic diversification, ultimately paving the way for a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous economy.

“Indications of a steadily rebounding economy are now manifest in all sectors of the economy. Local industries are booming, and our reliance on imports is plummeting. The Dangote Refinery is revolutionising the market with its products in Nigeria, while manufacturers in the South East are producing top-notch products in unprecedented quantities, generating thousands of jobs and stimulating economic growth. This progress is a monumental step towards achieving food security, industrialization, and sustainable economic growth.

“President Tinubu has genuinely prioritized the best interest of Nigerians over any political electoral calculation. The administration’s reforms may have transient higher cost of living implications challenges, but they are indispensable to securing a more sustainable economy that rewards hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurship.”

The party assured Nigerians that the President will not be distracted by some “selfish partisan rambling of some hardened political opportunists and economic exploiters only bent on preserving the old inefficient and permissive economic system that fed them at the expense of the common good of all.

“The best strategic interest of our economy and the good people of Nigeria must continue to trump any and all political or electoral calculations.”

Sen. Wowo noted that President Tinubu has led the nation with the clarity and determination of a visionary leader, particularly in advancing development within the FCT, and therefore deserves commendation for his achievements over the past two years.

He particularly commended the people-oriented policies and programmes of the APC-led administration, highlighting the directive by the FCT Minister to compensate residents affected by ongoing development projects as a notable example.

In a statement on Sunday, the FCT Chapter Chairman emphasized that the administration’s performance over the past two years has validated the confidence reposed in President Tinubu by the electorate, especially in his capacity to guide the nation towards meaningful socio-economic progress.

He noted that without the bold and decisive steps taken by President Tinubu, the country would not have recorded the significant progress witnessed in key sectors such as the economy, education, and infrastructure.

“I commend the President for being courageous, such that two years down the line, our party, the APC in the Federal Capital Territory, can tell you that the temporal pains experienced by commuters in the Territory from Zuba to the Central Business District (CBD), Kubwa to CBD, Bwari to CBD and all its environs have been eased with the completion of the Mabushi Bridge.

“Also our people have seen the changes at the Nicon Junction axis that opens the way up to Gwarinpa.

“This infrastructural deployment by the President through the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike came out of audacious belief in growth and development and would ease movements in the FCT reducing passenger time to and from work daily.”

Acknowledging the efforts of the FCT Minister in driving development across the Territory, the APC chieftain commended his commitment to ensuring that set targets are not derailed, saying, “The Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, who came ready to Work, requested for the President to remove all bureaucratic encumbrances and thereafter justified his mandate as Minister and transformed major arteries of the city.

“I say congratulations Mr. President, congratulation All Progressives Party (APC) and congratulations to our working FCT Minister”.

While commending the ongoing developmental strides in the FCT, Wowo expressed satisfaction that no area is being left behind but appealed for the inclusion of residents in the Gishiri area to ensure they also benefit from the infrastructure projects carried out in the overriding public interest.

“Mr President, I commend you for the swift compensation of the families displaced by this good work of territorial uplift. I am also delighted to hear that you did not leave the people behind in the area of compensation.

“We are aware that the Minister, Nyesom Wike, empowered by your good office, was displeased over the poor handling of the resettlements and has given a stern warning that the people should be fully compensated.

“Only a progressive government can tow this populist line, anchored on the broken chain and symbol of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“With your drive for infrastructure, which your lieutenant, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, is faithfully discharging will be recorded among the undeniable impact of the APC development initiative in the Territory,” he said.

Wowo, who prayed to God to give the President more wisdom and strength to steer the nation, assured the President that, as chairman of the reconciliation committee, the visible impact of the government’s programmes and policies on the city and its residents has made the task of reconciling APC members significantly easier.
