JUST IN: Former minister resigns from APC

A former Minister of Environment under President Muhammadu Buhari, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abdullahi, who was initially appointed as Minister of State for Science and Technology before being redeployed as the substantive Minister of Environment, announced his resignation in a letter dated June 1.

The letter, addressed to the APC chairman in his Uke ward, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and copied to other party officials, cited personal reasons for his decision to leave the ruling party.

He expressed appreciation to the party chairman for the support and cooperation extended to him during his time in the APC, noting that they made modest contributions to the growth of the party in the state.

“I wish you and the party good luck,” the letter added.

Abdullahi had served a Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Nasarawa State during the administration of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and SSG during Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura’s administration.

It is gathered that the former minister is nursing ambition to be the next Governor of Nasarawa State and is not sure of getting the APC guber ticket.

He is rumoured to be heading to the PDP where he lock horns with the 2023 PDP Governorship candidate in the state, David Umbugadu who is still interested in running and has the structures of the party at his palm, others suggest that he will join the coalition to get a platform to run the for the 2027 Governorship of the State.

2027: APC forum urges Yilwatda to step up humanitarian efforts in Plateau

The North Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has urged the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to enhance his response to the humanitarian needs of distressed communities in Plateau State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the Forum emphasized the importance of visible and sustained engagement with displaced residents and victims of violence across the state.

The Forum also reiterated its commitment to encouraging Governor Caleb Mutfwang to consider joining the APC, commending his efforts in advancing development in Plateau State, which it described as aligning with progressive governance values.

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the Forum noted the need for greater unity and proactive leadership within the party to strengthen its position in the state.

It clarified that its observations were aimed at constructive engagement and not intended as criticism, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to address the humanitarian concerns affecting Plateau communities.

“We felt it necessary to speak up for our people, who have been displaced and left without adequate assistance.

“The advice was given in good faith, based on our collective experience in the political space. It was not an attack, as the Minister suggested.”

The group claimed that a lack of responsiveness to such advice played a role in the APC’s electoral losses in the state.

“The 2023 elections were a missed opportunity
In our view, some of the missteps, including failure to rally the party base and perceived mixed messaging during the presidential vote, contributed to APC’s defeat.”

Responding to the Minister’s remarks questioning the Forum’s legitimacy during a magazine programme on Arise Television during the weekend, the group reaffirmed its credentials as a registered APC support body since 2018, noting its wide-reaching membership across the North-Central region, including ex-lawmakers, commissioners, academics, and civil society leaders.

The Forum also clarified its past statements on other APC leaders, stating, “We never attacked Dr. Ganduje,” Zazzaga said. “Our position then was rooted in the zoning principle, which at the time placed the National Chairmanship in the North-Central. Once Dr. Ganduje’s leadership became evident and effective, we aligned with him. That decision preceded his ratification by the party’s NEC.

“Regarding SGF George Akume, our input has been constructive and welcomed. Senator Akume listened to our concerns and worked with us in the interest of the party in the region.”

The Forum also dismissed Yilwatda’s remarks questioning Zazzaga’s APC membership, citing multiple party roles at both state and national levels, including participation in presidential and governorship campaign committees and national summits.

“I was appointed into several campaign committees by Prof. Yilwatda himself. So it is surprising and disappointing for him to cast doubt on my standing within the APC.”

Meanwhile, the Forum announced a withdrawal of a seven-day ultimatum it had earlier issued to the Plateau APC executive led by Hon. Rufus Bature, which had called for reconciliation processes and party expansion initiatives.

“We regret the miscommunication that accompanied the ultimatum and offer our apologies,” the Forum said.

Nonetheless, the Forum maintained its interest in engaging Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who currently governs under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in political dialogue.

“We will continue advocating for Governor Mutfwang to consider a return to the APC.

“He has proven political experience and acceptability in the State, and we believe his return could strengthen the party’s prospects in Plateau,” the group noted.

The defectors from Ward 9 in Esit Eket were led to the APC by a former local government chairmanship aspirants, Eseme Udi, who vowed to ensure that APC takes over the state.

Udi, a philanthropist and community leader, hailed Governor Eno for  charting the right political path for Akwa Ibom state, adding the state will fare better under APC.

He said,:”The people of Ward 9 have been marginalized, deprived, and oppressed. We are tired of being neglected. The people were just waiting for someone to lead the way, and that time has come

“I have seen what the APC has done at the national level, I have the catalog of the activities of APC, and I believe there’s hope in the party. We are convinced that the APC will treat our people better than how PDP treated them.”

The APC in Esit Eket Ward 9, led by Ward Chairman Mr. Samuel Akpama, warmly welcomed  Udi and his co-defectors to the party.

He expressed delight over the defection to his Party, he however advised them to be humble in order to benefit from whatever dividends that would accrue to the Party.

The Esit Eket chapter Chairman, Mr. Daniel Assam, described the defection as a “movement” rather than decamping.

“It’s not decamping, it’s a movement. We welcome you with open arms. We thank the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for organising the party’s growth,” he added.

He assured the new members of equal rights and urged them to respect the party’s constitution. “Anybody who comes with interest should drop it,” he advised. “Let’s work together to achieve our goals. Every thing anybody wants is through consultation with the leadership of the Party”

The Chapter Chairman also reminded the defectors and members that the Party is guided by constitution and that calls for total respect for its provisions and strict adherence

Dr. Usoro Akpanuso, the immediate past legislator who represented Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, said that Ward 9, is a very important part of politics Esit Eket. So for the entire Ward to empty into APC is a significant political development.

He attributed the defection to the Lord’s doing. “It’s a sign of the party’s growing strength,” he said. “The rate of defection to APC across the country is alarming. It can only be God who is behind this exodus. Imagine PDP that people said that it’s a religion, about to move enmas to APC. It is unbelievable.”

APC’s irresistible appeal: Opposition leaders flock to Tinubu’s development agenda

    By Gbenga Abiola

The recent influx of opposition party members into the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a testament to the effectiveness of President Bola Tinubu’s development strategy. The implementation of economic stimulus packages has enabled governors to drive development initiatives across state and local government tiers, fostering a new era of economic growth and development.

The Tinubu administration’s achievement in ensuring consistent salary payments to state government employees has eliminated the historical revenue volatility that once plagued many states.

This feat is a direct result of the administration’s policy-driven economic restructuring, which has ensured stable revenue streams and provided a foundation for sustainable development.

The stability of economic reforms across state and local government levels has been a significant factor in the success of the Tinubu administration. Governors are now able to prioritize development initiatives, leveraging established economic fundamentals to drive growth and development in their respective states.

This has led to a renewed sense of purpose and direction, as governors focus on delivering tangible benefits to their constituents.

The benefits of effective governance are becoming increasingly apparent to Nigerians, prompting opposition attention and sparking a growing interest in the APC’s development agenda. Driven by President Tinubu’s vision, the APC’s agenda is attracting supporters and solidifying the party’s position as a leading force in Nigerian politics.

The party’s commitment to economic reform, infrastructure development, and social welfare programs is resonating with Nigerians, who are eager to be part of a government that prioritizes development and good governance.

The current economic challenges, including the high cost of living and foodstuff prices, are acknowledged. However, the Tinubu administration’s historic contribution of ideas has created a system that will gradually and systematically reduce commodity prices over time.

This is evident in the long-term trend of decreasing costs since 1999, which demonstrates the potential for sustained economic growth and development. As policy-driven initiatives mature, Nigerians can expect to see a significant reduction in commodity prices, leading to improved living standards and increased economic opportunities.

As Nigeria’s future outlook continues to brighten, driven by the Tinubu administration’s development initiatives, opposition leaders are increasingly drawn to the APC’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

The party’s development agenda is poised to attract more supporters, including key opposition leaders, who are eager to be part of a movement that is shaping Nigeria’s future and positioning the country as a major player on the global stage.

With its commitment to sustainable development and economic growth, the APC is well-positioned to consolidate its position and endure as a leading force in Nigerian politics. #AGBELEBU.

APC chieftain defends Senator Sani over ‘harmonise’ controversy

Amid growing social media commentary and public backlash, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and security expert Abayomi Nurain Mumuni has stepped forward in defense of Senator Sani Musa, whose recent attempt to define the term “harmonise” during a Senate session sparked controversy.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni dismissed the uproar as unnecessary, attributing it to misinterpretation and a deliberate attempt to ridicule rather than understand.

“The recent discussions surrounding Senator Sani Musa’s attempt to define the term ‘harmonize’ during a Senate session have prompted various speculations and misunderstandings among the public,” the statement noted. “It is imperative to clarify these misconceptions to ensure a well-informed discourse.”

Mumuni also highlighted Musa’s academic credentials, describing him as a graduate of a reputable Nigerian university with a commendable academic record that reflects his commitment to education and public service.

“His qualifications and expertise affirm his capability as a Senator, and it’s essential not to undermine his contributions based on unfounded opinions,” Mumuni stated.

He further argued that the uproar over the senator’s definition was misdirected, stressing that the term “harmonize” has multiple meanings depending on the context in which it is used.

“This is a common linguistic occurrence, and even elementary students are aware that definitions may vary across different fields and branches of study,” he noted.

Mumuni dismissed the ridicule as “childish” and urged critics to rise above petty debates. “Speculating that a sitting senator ‘failed’ to define a term as fundamental as ‘harmonize’ reflects more on the eagerness to criticize than on an accurate understanding of the matter,” he said.

“This notion is, quite frankly, childish and diverts attention from the substantive issues at hand that require robust legislative discussions.”

He concluded by calling for a more constructive approach to national dialogue.

“We urge the public, media, and fellow senators to focus on more pertinent issues within our governance and legislative processes rather than engaging in trivial debates,” Mumuni urged.

“Let us all strive for a mature and constructive dialogue that benefits our democracy and the citizens we serve.”

Abia will go to APC in 2027, says ex-Rep Onuigbo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the House of Representatives from Abia State, Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has expressed confidence that the State will go to the APC come 2027.

Onuigbo, in an interview, attributed this to the strategic political messaging deployed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency.

He said the Deputy Speaker has upped the ante in communicating the achievements of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to Abians, giving special attention to multitude of disillusioned People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and members in the state articulated under his project, Renewed Hope Partners.

He said the agenda of the Deputy Speaker has had far-reaching effects on how Abians view and perceive what the administration has been doing so far,  succeeding in giving shelter and anchor to a sizable number of PDP leaders in the state, whom he said are now defecting to APC in droves.

Onuigbo, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North-South Federal Constituency in the ninth Assembly, disclosed that as a major fallout from the engagement spearheaded by Benjamin Kalu, some founding members of the PDP in Abia Central and Abia North have defected to the APC, while others are seriously gravitating towards the party.

APC group seeks review of ex-PDP man’s eligibility ahead of FCT poll

A group within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the APC Consolidation Group, has raised concerns over the eligibility of Mr. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo to contest in the forthcoming Area Council elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday in Abuja, the group’s spokesperson, Mallam Idris Jibril, questioned Shekwolo’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, stressing the need for internal party cohesion and transparency.

According to the group, Shekwolo allegedly served as a delegate at the PDP’s zonal convention as recently as May 24, before purchasing the APC nomination and expression of interest forms — a move they believe undermines long-standing APC loyalists in the FCT.

They warned that his sudden rise within the party has unsettled members, particularly in Kuje and Bwari Area Councils, and could threaten party unity ahead of the 2026 elections.

The group also referenced unverified claims of external influences attempting to manipulate the APC’s internal processes and called on party leaders to uphold democratic standards in the screening of aspirants.

Mid-term: Tinubu has lifted gloom over Nigeria, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has given high marks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as it marks its second anniversary, declaring that his leadership has dispelled the cloud of despair that once hung over the nation.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described President Tinubu as “the President of Progress,” stating that he has set Nigeria on a “road less travelled” toward renewed hope and limitless possibilities.

Morka highlighted several sectoral achievements, praising the President for his commitment to reviving and repositioning the Nigerian economy through what he called “sacrificial and visionary leadership.”

“Under Tinubu, Nigeria continues to experience steady and meaningful growth,” Morka said, adding that the administration’s reforms are laying a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.

He further stated, “We make bold to say that our vehicle of state, under the able, capable, safe, and steady hands of our Executive Driver—our President and Commander-in-Chief—is on the move.”

The APC used the occasion to reaffirm its confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to remain patient and hopeful as the government works to deliver on its Renewed Hope agenda.

“Unstoppably and irreversibly – milestone after milestone – on a steady course on the road to our long desired destination – a place of peace, security, and enduring prosperity.

Commending the resilience of the President, APC maintained that despite the daunting generational challenges, the President demonstrated political will never before recorded in our contemporary political history.

“Like a confident surgeon, he has enacted and continues to enact policy reforms skillfully designed to give our country not just a chance of urgent resuscitation but a real shot at rejuvenating wellness.”

The only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Ondo State in the House of Representatives, Olarewaju Akingbaso, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akingbaso said he dumped the PDP to align with APC’s ideology and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

But House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda drew the attention of the House to the body of the letter the lawmaker sent to the Green Chamber, saying: “The letter is filled with the singular noun of I and not the people who elected him and whom he represents.”

Also, an ally of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and his Head of Logistics in the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 presidential election, Fabian Ozoigbo, has dumped the party for APC.

Ozoigbo said he is ready to work for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 for stabilising the country since he assumed office two years ago.

Also, ahead of the planned defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, scores of PDP members in Esit Eket Local Government Area have joined APC.

The defectors from Ward 9 in the local government were led into APC by a former local government chairmanship aspirant, Eseme Udi, who promised to work for APC to take over the state.

2027: Obi’s ally dumps LP, joins APC to work for Tinubu’s reelection

Fabian Ozoigbo, an ally of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state.

Ozoigbo, who was the head of Logistics of the Labour Party, declared that he is ready to work for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 for his efforts in stabilising the country since he assumed office.

He said there is a lack of trust in the Labour Party, while blasting the party for faulting the result as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the last presidential election.

Ozoigbo, who briefed reporters on Wednesday in Awka, said that as a member of the opposition, he had expected Nigeria’s economy to collapse following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He, however, said that to his admiration, President Tinubu has managed to keep the economy stable.

He said, “As a member of the opposition, I had expected the economy to collapse irretrievably after the removal of fuel subsidy, but that the economy is still on, though with hardships is a puzzle to me.

“I have decided to come close to the government that is holding this economy to observe and take part in this surprising phenomenon.

“My goal is to be part of a new Nigeria that is possible with positive policies that will turn the economy around. Since the economy has not collapsed by now and there are signs of recovery, I want to be part of this economic miracle.”

Ozoigbo said his entry into the APC at a time Anambra is moving towards the November 8 governorship election was timely, especially with the election of a grassroots politician, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, as the candidate.

He said Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife’s entry into the governorship race would make it easy for APC to win Anambra.

“APC in recent times threw up a Trojan horse in the person of Prince Nicolas Ukachukwu as their candidate.

“His emergence as a grassroots-oriented person, coupled with his philanthropic gestures over the years, has begun to attract people, especially the middle-class citizens of the state, to his quest. My people and I want to be part of it.

“His emergence is a clarion call for all men of goodwill and good conscience to gather together to make the point that Anambra is not for only rich people but for both the rich and the poor.”

Speaking about the 2023 presidential election, Ozoigbo remarked that it is regrettable there is significant distrust among members within the Labour Party.

He stated that it is even worse that, despite all the claims to victory, the Labour Party relied on the same INEC result it had discredited to prove its case in court, and thus faced failure.
