  • Cloud 9 to monetize music for artistes

A new music streaming site, Cloud 9, is here to monetize the intellectual property of music artistes in Nigeria and beyond, according to its management. Described as an integrated mobile music platform, Cloud 9 offers music lovers the best of Nigerian and International music, as well as a host of other features that enhance the experience of consuming and enjoying good music.

Presenting the platform to the public at a press conference recently, Totola Odunsi Content Aggregator for Cloud 9 said that it offers unique end-to-end experiential music performances from iconic musicians and upcoming breakthrough artists, thus giving individuals and businesses the cloud experience.

According to Odunsi, “Cloud9 basically is a music streaming service from full track downloads to music videos. We are trying to use the platform to showcase and help artistes monetize areas where they’ve not really been able to monetize. For example their exclusive footage, a lot of music lovers want to feel closer to the artiste, so this helps them engage more.”

International booking agent, Hakeem Condotti said accessing the platform is very easy. “All you need is to have a data-enabled mobile device, and that’s it. It is available via WAP and Web, as well as mobile apps. The app can also be downloaded from the Google Play and Windows App Stores,” he said.

Present at the press briefing was South African rapper Casper Nyovest who welcomed the idea of the new online music streaming platform. “For an artiste like me who is trying to find new ways of making money through music, something like cloud 9 will be very beneficial,” he said.

Artistes turn up as Judith Audu marks one year on radio

it was a day of joy for award-winning actress, movie producer and OAP, Judith Audu-Foght as her radio programme, Meet the Actor wit Judith Audu, which airs on iGroove Radio, clocked a year last Saturday.

To celebrate the day, the actress brought together those who have been featured on the programme in the past one year for an anniversary edition.

According to the entertainer, “it has been an awesome one year, and I need to stress the awesome in capital letters. I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth drive, but everything has worked together to make the show stand out. I set out to do a global show because it’s an online radio. It wouldn’t make sense just concentrating on Nigerian actors. For this one year, I have been able to do that. I’ve been able to touch Europe, I’ve touched the Middle East, and I’ve touched almost the whole of Africa and the US. So, I’ll say it has been a successful one year.”

The anniversary edition saw past guests featured on the show fielding questions from the actress as well as from listeners. To mark the day, the actress feted her guests to light refreshment after cutting her anniversary cake.

Among those present at the ceremony was her fellow actress, Ashionye Raccah who incidentally was the guest of the maiden edition of the show. She had kind words for Judith.

“I am happy for her. I didn’t even know I was going to be the first guest till I came on the show. She had invited me the day before and I accepted her invitation and came on the show. It was a nice experience. It’s been a beautiful one year because I’ve heard the show a couple of times. For someone who didn’t have formal radio training, she is doing an awesome job and I’m very proud of her,” she said.

Meet the Actor wit Judith Audu is a radio programme which looks into the lives of actors and what makes them tick.

    Artistes grace Jacaranda opening

With the aim of boosting nightlife in Lagos and improving the gaming culture of Nigerians, Jacaranda Casino, last Friday, opened a new outlet in Lagos. Joining its three other outlets in Abuja, Imo and Port Harcourt, the management of the casino stated that with the opening, Lagos State just became a much more fun place to be.

The opening, which witnessed the presence of crème de la crème of the Lagos social circles including big names in the entertainment and business world, took place at Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja, where the casino is situated.

Addressing the media, prior to the opening party, Group Managing Director of Jacaranda Casinos, John Storey, said that the decision to open another outlet stems from his love for Nigeria.

“We have been here for about nine years now and this is out fourth casino. This is our new flagship. We decided to be a new part of the Nigerian night life. When we first came in, we found that the hotels were pretty boring in Nigeria. That was many years ago. Casino business in Nigeria is just at its infancy. Nigerians are just getting used to night life so with this opening, Lagos has become a much more fun place to be,” he said.

For Yahaya Maikori, a director at Jacaranda Casino, there is no better time to launch in Lagos than now.

“We have a huge gaming culture in this country, it’s just that we are being private about it. We are bringing an international standardised facility that is comparable to any other facility outside the country. We are bringing a facility that Nigerians will be proud of, that they will be able to spend time in and enjoy themselves. • 9janimi Channel to pay royalty to artistes

As 9janimi music streaming channel relaunches its service, the management of the platform has promised that it would begin paying royalties to artistes.

Founder of the network, Soltesh Iyere, said that the new platform is designed as an alternative to popular streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. 9janimi Channel, he says, lets independent artistes keep 75% of the proceeds through its “Fair Trade Streaming” agreement.

“The Media 360 Company, owners of 9janimi Channel, originally projected the streaming service as an alternative to the music industry through which they could directly distribute their music to music fans and lovers,” says Iyere.

The online platform, he says, offers two tiers for customers, and streaming on the Web and on iOS and Android (Which they plan to launch before the end of the year for mobile users). The free version comes with ads, lets users into thousands of songs from its catalog, and they have to purchase songs they wish to download or keep, the internet entrepreneur said.

He also adds that the streaming service was originally announced about a year ago, after a couple of years of being operated a music channel, but for some reasons it was delayed and now a streaming service has risen to pay artists royalties.

“It’s not clear yet how large 9janimi Channels music catalog is, or how well it will do, though its sure to resonate with artists who are finding the models used by Spotify and others as unfairly stripping them of much of their earnings,” Iyere added.
