    Barca to Neymar: PSG must bring €222m or no deal

     

    Barcelona have told Neymar and his representatives that his €222million release clause must be paid in full to complete the Brazil superstar’s prospective world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

    The 25-year-old’s blockbusting move to the French capital gathered pace on Wednesday, as Barca revealed the forward was granted permission to miss training by head coach Ernesto Valverde.

    Neymar did arrive at Barca’s Circutat Esportiva Joan Gamper complex to inform his team-mates of his intention to leave the club and Barca later confirmed the player and his father were part of a delegation that delivered a similar message to the club hierarchy.

    “The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the club in a meeting held at the club’s offices,” a club statement read.

    “Faced with this position, the club has informed them they [must] refer to the buy-out clause of his existing contract which, as of July 1 totals €222million which will have to be deposited in its entirety.”

    The statement added: “The player remains under contract at FC Barcelona but with temporary permission to not take part in training sessions.”

    Earlier this close season, Barcelona were extensively linked with a move for PSG midfielder Marco Verratti and the Italy international was subsequently touted as a potential makeweight in any Neymar deal.

    Barca’s latest statement requesting full payment suggests such an option is not on the table and comes after LaLiga president Javier Tebas questioned the legality of such an outlay from PSG under FFP rules.

    Neymar continues to give Barcelona the runaround with reports from sources close to the player on Tuesday suggesting he was heading back to Brazil to think about his future.
    The player’s latest Instagram posts suggest otherwise with the 25-year-old on a flight out of Dubai and due to arrive in Catalonia on Tuesday evening.
    Relations between the player and the club are at an all-time low after Barcelona withheld a payment to Neymar Senior on Monday.
    Now with Barcelona due to resume training on Wednesday and coach Ernesto Valverde – still reeling from having to send Neymar to the showers last week after he scrapped with Nelson Semedo – Neymar still has the club in the dark over his intentions.
    On Monday, Neymar Senior was due a payment of 25m euros (£22.4million) for his part in Neymar’s contract renewal last October.
    Some at the club believe the player’s departure dragged on through the summer tour in the U.S. precisely because Neymar’s father suspected the payment would be blocked if his son moved before.
    Barcelona briefed at the start of the week that they had deposited the money with a lawyer in the city and that it would only be released to Neymar Snr if Neymar stayed at the club.
    If Neymar joins PSG then Barca would seek legal advice in a bid to pay just a fraction of the sum on the basis that the Brazilian’s renewal was for five years and he will only have stayed for one year of those five.
    Mundo Deportivo published a story on Tuesday morning suggesting that Neymar was set to fly to Brazil, missing training in Barcelona, and trying to force the club to pay his father what he believes he is owed, and to sit down with PSG and thrash out the sale of the century before the French season starts this weekend.
    Now it appears he is heading back to work with his current employer as the saga rumbles on.
    Neymar appeared to have moved a step closer to finalising his £196m move to Paris Saint-Germain as the Brazilian arrived in the Middle East ahead of a potential medical.
    The unsettled Barcelona star left Asia, where he was taking part in sponsorship responsibilities, and flew to Dubai.
    He looked cool, calm and collected as he posed for a picture while he dined out with his friends.
    Neymar sang lyrics to Thiaguinho’s ‘Energia Surreal’ as he was in a jovial mood with his close companions – including Jo Amancio and Alvaro Costa.
    The 25-year-old shared a snap of himself at lunch as PSG supporters prepared to welcome him to the French capital.
    He could complete his world record £196m transfer to the French side by the end of the week.
    Neymar also shared an excerpt of the New Testament (Philippians 4:11) which conveyed that he was remaining strong despite controversy.
    ‘I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
    ‘I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.’

    Barcelona superstar Neymar has never been scared of splashing the cash but with a £500,000-a-week contract at Paris Saint-Germain on the cards, the Brazilian took his spending to a whole other level on Complex magazine’s Sneaker Shopping series.

    Neymar was invited onto the show to discuss his career, his love of fashion and most importantly his penchant for limited edition sneakers.

    The Brazil international even has his own brand of trainer, the Air Jordan V ‘Neymar’, which was launched in collaboration with Nike and NBA legend Michael Jordan.

    ‘He was incredible when I met him,’ Neymar told Complex. ‘He was a really nice guy, really cool.

    ‘I was taken aback by his hospitality. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I was shaking when I met him.’

    Neymar will continue his collaboration with Nike and Jordan in the near future and the 25-year-old revealed he already has ideas on a follow up to the Air Jordan Hypervenom II football boots that were released last year.

    ‘The plan is to keep on improving, not just the boots themselves, but its development so I can be more comfortable with a lighter boot,’ he said.

    ‘We’ll carry on talking to improve its appearance.’

    Neymar also revealed he and Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi have a personal rivalry when it comes to each other’s footwear on the pitch.

    ‘Not with trainers, but with boots – when they’re ugly we play around, have a joke,’ he said.

    After finishing his interview, Neymar took the time to browse the world-famous Flight Club shoe shop in Los Angeles before racking up a whopping $18,623 (£14,242) bill – a new record for the Sneaker Shopping series.

    The Brazilian forward, who is rated as one of the best players on the planet, feels isolated and unsettled in Camp Nou

    Neymar is NOW ready to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €222 million after growing frustrated at Camp Nou.

    The Brazil international only signed a new deal until 2021 back in October of last year and Barcelona stressed earlier on Tuesday that Neymar would “200 per cent” certain stay this summer .

    Neymar is no longer happy at Barcelona, though, as he believes the presence of Lionel Messi will effectively prevent him from having a shot at winning the Ballon d’Or.

    He also feels isolated in the dressing room due to the absence of any close friends in the squad.

    Messi recently signed a contract renewal that will keep him at Barca until 2021, meaning Neymar will have to settle for a place in the Argentina international’s shadow for the foreseeable future.

    The 25-year-old was also hopeful Barcelona would bring in Lucas Lima from Santos to provide him with a close companion at the club, but they eventually pulled out of a deal for the 27-year-old.

    This further frustrated Neymar as well his father, who would have earned a commission from the transfer and has a meeting scheduled with PSG in Paris later this week.

    The attacker already held talks with PSG in 2016 over a potential transfer, but decided to sign a new deal with Barcelona instead in the end.

    He is ready to go ahead and move to the French capital this time around, however, and PSG are willing to meet his €222m release clause.

    The Ligue 1 giants already secured the services of Dani Alves earlier this transfer window to please Neymar, with the right-back enjoying a close relationship with his compatriot during their time together at Barcelona.

    Neymar would also team up with fellow Brazilians Marquinhos, Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura in Paris.

    Barcelona technical secretary Robert Fernandez considers it implausible that any club would pay Neymar’s €222million release clause.

    The Brazil star signed a new five-year contract last June that includes a buy-out clause, which has risen from €200m to €222m and will reach €250m in 12 months’ time.

    Neymar was linked with a move away from Camp Nou before his new deal effectively ended speculation over a possible transfer to either Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain.

    However, a report in Sport on Monday claimed the 25-year-old is unsettled in Catalonia and would consider leaving in the transfer window.

    Robert, though, does not expect any side to be audacious enough to attempt an offer.

    When asked if he could imagine Barca without Neymar, he told a news conference: “I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

    He added: “It’s not our intention to lose players, certainly not good players. We try to improve within the confines of what is possible.

    “We’ve not had any offers for any players in our squad.”

    Robert added that Barca would like to sign a midfielder who can play in three different roles across the centre of the pitch.

    Ernesto Valverde’s side have been rebuffed in their attempts to negotiate a deal for PSG’s Marco Verratti but Robert made it clear they will not sign a player of anything less than the highest quality, despite their challenging transfer window so far.

    “It’s difficult because we have an amazing team. Whoever comes here has to be a big player,” he said.

    “A player who can play in all three positions would be amazing, because playing in that position means you’re always fighting for game time so the more positions you can play in, the more opportunities you’ll have.”

    66 ex-agitators secure scholarships for sports studies in Barcelona

    Sixty-six ex-agitators and selected youths in the Niger Delta area have been offered scholarships to study Sports Management Fundamental at the Johan Cruyff Institute of Barcelona, the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) said on Wednesday.

    The Coordinator of the programme, retired Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

    Boroh, also the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs,  said that the course contents of Sports Management Fundamental were put together by the university of Amsterdam.

    He said that the programme was meant to blend academic with sports education.

    The coordinator said beneficiaries would combine their studies with training sessions while in camp and also have three hours lectures every day.

    Boroh said at the end of four months, successful course participants would be awarded Foundation of Sports Management certificates.

    He said this could lead them to proceed for their post graduate diploma in sports management, marketing and promotion.

    “Why we are introducing the course to the beneficiaries of the PAP and young people in the region is to give them the opportunity to blend academic and sports because when you are exceptionally talented, most times there is the tendency to disconnect from school.

    “This course is providing opportunity for those players who wish to pursue formal education while being actively involved with soccer, to combine academic and their football career.

    ‘It is a programme for all those who want to have a career in sports,” Boroh said.

    He said the course provided opportunity for persons in camps to pursue their educational careers.

    Boroh, however, added that graduands from the programme would find jobs easily because football attracts attention.

    The coordinator described sports as one of the most important facets of Niger Delta culture and community, arguing that few activities could rally the emotions and fire up the regional spirit like sports.

    “This is why we want to give our beneficiaries the opportunity to experience sports and live better through sports, whether as a professional sportsperson, amateur player, spectator or volunteer, ” he said.

    He commended the facilitators of the programme in Africa, Alhaji Faruk Yabo, who also is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of To Be Connected Nigeria, an NGO, and the CEO of Sia-One Sports Academy and former Super Eagles’ National Coach, Samson Siasia.

    PAP office had stated  that  it would enroll 200 beneficiaries of its programme for all inclusive sports at the SIA’one Soccer Academy.

    Barcelona star Lionel Messi ensured nothing went to waste after his wedding as he donated leftover food and drinks to charity, according to Rosario Food Bank director Pablo Algrain.

    The who’s who of football descended on Rosario last week as Messi tied the knot with long-term partner Antonella Roccuzzo in their home town.

    Barcelona team-mates Neymar, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique, and Dani Alves, Sergio Aguero, Cesc Fabregas, Angel Di Maria, Xavi and Carles Puyol were among the stars to celebrate the marriage – dubbed the “Wedding of the Century” by local media – long into the night in Argentina on Friday.

    There was plenty of food and drink left over, though it did not go to waste thanks to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and his wife.

    “It all arrived to the store and we’re controlling it,” Algrain told Efe. “We don’t yet know quite how much there is.”

    Algrain continued: “We explained to the wedding organisers that we can accept soft drinks and snacks, but that we’d have to change alcoholic drinks for money because we cannot accept them.”

    Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has responded online to speculation that he spent almost £35,000 on food and drink at a restaurant in Ibiza.

    The Argentinian has been away on the Balearic island with his fiancee Antonella Roccuzzo, Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Barcelona team-mate Luis Suarez, as well as their respective partners Daniella Semaan and Sofia Balbi.

    While Messi and Co posted pictures of their night out at Lío Ibiza, Club Restaurant Cabaret on Instagram, another post circulating on social media claiming to show an image of the group’s receipt was going viral.

    The receipt in question showed a grand total of €37,330 spent, including €24,600 on 41 bottles of Dom Perignon at €600 a pop, as well as 27 pizzas and four portions of caviar.

    However, now Messi has seemingly moved to dismiss the story by commenting on the image after it was shared by an Instagram account.

    His comment read: ‘Jajajajajajajaja que manera de hablar al pedo. Como inventan. lo mas lindo es que la gente se lo cree.’

    That translates to: ‘Hahahahahahaha, what a way to talk s***. How they invent. The most cute thing is that people believe it.’

    Aside from seemingly fake huge restaurant bills, the group have been enjoying an extended break in the sun over the past week.

    They’ve been spotted soaking up some rays on a yacht off the coast ahead of Messi’s wedding to Miss Roccuzzo later this summer.

    Eric Abidal has been appointed an ambassador at Barcelona, the club where he played for six seasons.

    Abidal, who won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2011 despite undergoing surgery to remove a tumour on his liver two months earlier, rejoined the club on Wednesday.

    The 37-year-old made 193 official appearances for Barcelona, winning four LaLiga titles in his time at Camp Nou, but the Frenchman played down his status at the club.

    “It’s a joy to return to officially form part of the club,” Abidal told Barca TV. “We had been talking for a while and now today it’s gone through. As ambassador I am going to represent the club in the best possible way in other countries.

    “It will always be a pleasure to share moments with the club’s former players and, above all, to transmit the message and values we have around the world – but I am not a legend.

    “It’s true my story marked a lot of people at the club, above all on a football level, but also on a personal level because of my illness.”

    After leaving Barcelona in 2013, the former France international went on to play for Monaco and Olympiacos before announcing his retirement from the game.

    Abidal follows Ronaldinho in returning to Barcelona to take up an ambassadorial role at the club after the Brazilian’s appointment was confirmed in February.

    Barcelona star Neymar is still someway short of matching the goalscoring feats of team-mates Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, but the Brazilian has been valued as the world’s most expensive player.

    In a new study by the CIES Football Observatory, the 25-year-old emerges as the most valuable footballer on the planet, ahead of Messi and Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli based on certain key criteria.

    ymar is valued at an eye-watering £185million according to the research, based on performance, employer clubs, international status, contract, age, position and marketability.

    A list of the 110 most desirable players in Europe’s top five leagues have been released with each member being valued at a minimum of £40m.

    Alli’s meteoric rise at Spurs and England has resulted in him being the second-most valuable player on the continent, with the findings estimating his worth at £137m, while Kane’s £135m will rise if he is handed the England captaincy permanently.

    At 29 years old, Messi’s prolific returns each season defies the view that his best days are behind him but the CIES studies value him at £134m with him unlikely to leave Barcelona during his peak years.

    Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is the fifth-most costly player, at £132m, while Suarez comes in just beneath him at a market value of £124m.

    Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba cost the club a world-record transfer fee last summer, and the France international has been given a value of £118m.

    Gonzalo Higuain (£106m) is eighth on the list while Player of the Year Eden Hazard (£104m) and Paulo Dybala (£102m) are also in the top 10.

    The oldest player to make the list is Cristiano Ronaldo, with the evergreen Real Madrid and Portugal star 11th on the list at a value of £99m.

    The exclusive CIES Football Observatory algorithm is based on the thorough analysis of almost 2,000 paying fee transfers and the variables have led to the Premier League being heavily represented.
