  • BBNaija: My positivity has kept me in the house- Rico

Rico reveals why he has continued to shake off eviction in the house.

His reason why consoling a rather unhappy Alex was due to “positivity” and abiding by the “fruits of the spirit.”

Alex who was unable to get over Leo, and the love they shared in the past, sought solace from Rico Swavey, a housemate who was keen to share his secrets of success.

“The reason why people vote for me is because I am always positive. I see light in dark and see good in the bad.

“Positive vibes is like magnet. Do not attract negative vibes. You are dealing with humans and not rice and beans, bolts or nuts,” Rico stated.

Rico who went further to add biblical excerpts to his way of life; alluded the fruits of the spirit to why he was always cool, calm and collected. He explained that this path has brought him only peace and positivity and encouraged Alex to do same.

“I focus on a good and positive mindset every time I wake up. Yes, there are times you lose balance but you ask for grace to carry on,” Rico added.

Alex accepted and even practised the message in the end, as she was seen happily interacting with other housemates and the trio of Miracle, TeddyA and Tobi while they played table tennis by the closet.

  • ‘Lifu’ evicted from BBNaija “Double Wahala”

BBNaija “Double Wahala” housemates Leo and Ifu Ennada (Lifu) have been evicted from the show. The paired housemates are the fourth set of housemates to be evicted from the BBNaija “Double Wahala” house and fifth pair to depart the house.

Previously, fellow housemates Bitto and Princess (Pritto), Deeone and Vandora (Vandee), Angel and Ahneeka(Gelah) were evicted from the show alongside Khloe and K-Brule (Ksquared) who were disqualified.

Lifu saw their chances of winning the grand prize of 25 million Naira and an SUV cut short during the last nomination process on Monday.

The Head of House(HoH) Bambam and her partner Rico(Bamco) who were immune from nominations decided to save Teddy A and Nena(Tena) and replaced them with Cee c and Lolu (Ceelo), leaving Lifu and the rest of the housemates up for eviction.

Lifu narrowly escaped nominations last week.

However this week, BBNaija host Ebuka Uchendu announced Lifu had received the lowest percent of votes from fans across the world compared to fellow housemates who were up for eviction this week.

Earlier in the game, Lifu came out on top during the “Roc Da Mat” challenge.

The pair won a prize of 5 million Nairas, one year supply of Pepsi, Pepsi chillers and VVIP trip for One Africa Festival in London, England.

Similarly, the two housemates were on the blue team that won the “Heritage Bank task presentation” that guaranteed them a lunch in Big Brother’s (Biggie’s) house on Saturday.

Ifu Ennada revealed she stayed out of building any emotional relationship in the house because she is making a conscious effort to remain single this year for personal reasons

The outgoing housemate admitted to feeling the urge to share a kiss with fellow housemate Rico Swarvey during their weekly Saturday night party last week.

Fellow evicted housemate Leo seemed calm and more worried about a wailing Alex. He told Ebuka that spending most of his time sleeping in the house was a result of being bored most of the time.

He said he was glad to go back to his business outside “Biggie’s” house.

The powers of the Head of House(HoH) were slightly altered during the eviction show.

Perennial BBNaija host Ebuka announced that the HoH would no longer be immune from nominations.

Ten housemates now left in the game will continue to vie for the grand prize as individuals rather than in pairs.

  • Our plan, by BBNaija evictees Angel and Ahneeka

Our plan, by BBNaija evictees Angel and Ahneeka

Ïf the guitar was his unique selling point, then one could say that having been stripped of the musical instrument in the previous weeks contributed to his fall. Angel, who appeared to have been glued to his guitar was deprived of it as it was perceived as a distraction to his relationship with other housemates.

And as Ahneeka, his strategic partner leaves the house with him, many believe his ‘unpopularity’  has affected her, as she is seen as the stronger member of the pair in the eye of fans.

Joining Ebuka on stage, Ahneeka said: “I don’t know how I’m feeling… I don’t want to be here so soon, but hey”

Asked why she didn’t give Rico a chance, she said she has been friends with Angel, and that “Rico and I we were forced to be strategic partners.”

For Angel, going forward, he “would want to be more than friends with Ahneeka,”

Ahneeka returns to TV presenting and some modelling while Angel looks forward to shooting a film in May, and also release a song among other plans.

Another notable revelation from this week’s eviction which saw Cee-C and Lolu (CeeLo) and Leo and Ifu (LiFu) continuing in the game was the Pepsi Roc Da Mat Challenge won by latter N2.5million each, an all expense paid trip to London for Pepsi One Fest event and one-year supply of Pepsi and Aquafina water.

Dr Sid returned to the stage, singing ‘Open and Close’.

The show continuew with a nomination session on Monday, and the next and last sets of pairing before the remaining housemates will play as individuals.

  • BBNaija: The unseen side

    BBNaija: The unseen side

I am perhaps getting a bit too old to remain plugged into pop culture. Except in a few instances, today’s music does not interest me. I am, however, not that set in my ways to say today’s music is all garbage. Even while growing up and in era ceaselessly advertised as representing chaste tastes, I heard music (lyrics, more like), that went against the grain, heavily so.

Tastes do not stay the same eternally.  We have no option, but to accept that. It is exactly why I am moved to challenge the view that Big Brother Naija (BBN for short) is show without benefits. Looked at carefully enough, it offers benefits, which we fail to see, most likely, because we already harbor prefabricated notions that blind us to modern realities.

It verges on the spectacularly hyperbolic to claim that a show so feverishly followed by millions has no single benefit. If we could calm down a bit, we would see that there are economic, psychological and social benefits. The economic benefits, it has to be stated, are not enjoyed exclusively by the creators of the show or sponsors, but also by the housemates and others involved in the production.

Not many Nigerian would sniff at an opportunity to walk away with N25million and a brand new SUV, which BBN is offering to the eventual winner. Not many.  Similarly, not many are going to pass up a chance to have whatever skills they have advertised to a continent-wide audience and establish business contacts they otherwise would not without the exposure that the show provides. BBN housemates have been known to become very popular within a very short period of time and kick on from there, notably in showbiz.

Nobody familiar with the showbiz scene in the country could claim not to know who Uti Unachukwu is. Post-BBN, he has built a successful career as an actor and television personality. Could this have happened without BBN? Of course, it could have. Did BBN provide a launch pad? You bet. Bisola Aiyeola, first runner-up on BBN 2, has also enjoyed boost in her acting career since participating in the second edition of the show, starring in movies and television shows such as Glimpse, Ovy’s Voice, Picture Perfect, Skinny Girl In Transit Season 4 and Life of A Nigerian Couple Season 2.  Soma, the first evictee from BBN 2, made his acting debut on the hit television show, Jenifa’s Diary.

What BBN has done, essentially, is to show us that ordinary people can become celebrities and big stars in their own right, status they probably would have had difficulty attaining without the exposure the show offers by bringing their talents and personality to a wider audience, which appreciates them.

Another factor ignored in our blind rage is the show’s capacity to address social issues. Bisola Aiyeola (sorry to mention her again) attended the 72ndUnited Nations General Assembly in New York as an Ambassador of One Campaign Initiative, which advocates improvement of access to and quality of education for girls in Nigeria, especially in the Northern states. She was chosen on account of her presentation on BBN, which highlighted impediments to girl-child education in the country. Since her participation in BBN, she has appeared in a number of television commercials and by any definition, she is a celebrity.

We remain obdurate in our view that BBN has no value without asking why it is feverishly followed and provokes discussions on end. We ignore the fact that people have varied tastes and some may prefer reality shows to other TV programmes. Many of us have the habit of listening to news. Similarly, there are people who love to kill their time by watching other things. Can we let them enjoy such full freedom? Young people seem to derive great enjoyment from watching BBN because they find it easier to relate to than the “turgid” stuff others want. I follow football passionately, but I have friends who do not. They probably think that my passion for the game is a wasteful expense of time. However, they have been civil enough to keep their opinions to themselves. I have also not bothered to ask why they do not like the game-each person to his own.

Many people find BBN and other reality shows a relief from the protracted serials, which depict struggles of people.  We must understand that many viewers prefer to have fun, not crying or being upset by watching serials. For such category, BBN is a blessing.

I doubt if there is still a huge audience for protest music like we used to have. Protest music and other art forms have their place. But many of today’s people would rather not invest their time in such. They want lyrics talking about partying, generally having a good time and taking their minds off the sufficiently punishing demands of daily existence. They are entitled to such, just as those who cannot have enough of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh are.

I understand the complaint that there are things some people find distasteful. Even then, are we forced to watch? No. Do kids have to watch? No. We can block the channel showing BBN if we do not want to watch or we do not want our children to watch. Yes. Can we say the internet has no benefit because it provides access to the good, the bad and downright grotesque? We all know the answer to that.

BBNaija: Bambam ‘s parents dismiss social media claims

The family of Big Brother Naija “Double Wahala’’ housemate Bambam has dismissed suggestions on social media claiming her parents want her withdrawn from the show.

This is due to the recent social media frenzy surrounding her escapade in the toilet with fellow housemate Teddy A.

Video images of what looked like the two housemates copulating have been circulating on the Internet over the past week.

The actions of these two housemates have caused a resurgence of a wide debate among Nigerians that focused on the immorality of the show.

BBNaija followers have emphasised on Bambam’s claim to be a religious and dedicated member of her church at the beginning of the show.

An alleged member of her church Stephanie Amaty took to social media to express her disappointment in Bambam, who she claimed is a chorister in her parish.

She said “I am personally disappointed in Bamike “Bambam” she is a choir member in my parish’’.

Followers of the show on social media have claimed the parents of the BBNaija housemate have requested to have their daughter withdrawn from the show as a consequence for her wrongdoings in the BBNaija house.

Contrary to those reports, the family of Bambam has released an official statement through Bambams Instagram page appreciating her fans and reinforcing their support for their daughter.

The statement reads “there’s been a false news circulating on social media about BamBam’s parents requesting for her to leave the big brother house to return home.

“This news is very false as the supposed person is not family, friend or even supporter of BamBam, I repeat it is completely false and as such should be disregarded.’’

The family completely disregarded the source of information of the alleged claims and appealed to viewers to continue showing support toward Bambam.

“We do not know the said user from anywhere and have no affiliations with her. Its the work of unscrupulous elements and it is what it is. Thank you for those who stuck out for us and brought it to our notice.

“We crave your indulgence to please spread this news and continue to show your support as we stand together to ensure victory is ours by Gods grace.”

Bambam’s initial game strategic partner Teddy A, had earlier proclaimed in the show to respect Bambams’s religious background by abstaining from any form of sexual intercourse with her.

Reactions trail sex scene aired on BBNaija

Several Nigerians have expressed divergent views on the trending video showing BBNaija, ‘Double Wahala’ housemates, Oluwabamike Olawumi, a.k.a BamBam and Tope Adenibuyan, a.k.a Teddy A, allegedly having sex.

The two housemates have been criticised after pictures and video of the act from the episode aired in the wee hours of Tuesday on DSTV, surfaced on various social media.

While some viewers felt the content was too revealing for the Nigerian audience, others are of the opinion that such scenes can be broadcast since the show is classified for age 18 years and above.

Reno Omokri, aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed concerns why housemates allegedly having sex in the toilet are being referred to as stars.
In a tweet, the former presidential aide cautioned Nigerians against replicating everything from the Western world.

He wrote, “When I was a child, only animals had intercourse in the open for all to see!

“We have a culture. Not everything from the West is good!”

Below also are some of the tweets:

@bbnaijagossip wrote: “There is life after BBNaija to those of you supporting nonsense and immoral life. And some of you will be the ones that will dig up the history when the time comes. Hypocrites that know the truth but better cover it in the name of entertainment rated 18.”

@barinyang wrote: “Sex, Nudity, Language and Violence are why some television shows are rated 18. That doesn’t also mean that every person, 18 and above, must watch those shows. Copy that.”

@Kaybbie_kubbie tweeted: “You all should stop kids from watching the Big Brother o. I am tired of reading insults after two adults have sex. It is a TV show, rated 18 and some people still complain after watching adults have sex.”

Also, music producer Don Jazzy tweeted @donjazzy, “I am not even judging…You never use toilet before? Cast the first stone.”

Eccentric actorDenrele twitted @denrele_edun writing, “Look at that dewy glow on BamBam.
“Never seen her giggly and vivacious!

    BBNaija: Cee-C up for Eviction

Current Head of House Tobi Bakre has put up former strategic partner, Cee-C for eviction.

In a shocking turn of events of what can be termed hot love turning cold, Tobi shocked everyone with his save and replace on Monday evening by saving Bambam and Rico after putting Cee-C and Lolu up for eviction.

Tobi’s decision to save Bamco (Bambam and Rico), has kindled the wrath of Cee-C who used to be Tobi’s lover and strategic partner.

On why he put up Cee-C for eviction, Tobi told Alex that Cee-C is not being real with him, adding that she has been playing games with him

Meanwhile, reacting to the shocking decision taken by her estranged lover [Tobi], Cee-c lamented there is nothing that could be seen as real in the Big Brother House.

Cee-c in a conversation with Anneka, said Tobi is not nice and described him as just being defensive. Putting up an I-don’t-care attitude she urged her fans at home to keep her in the competition by voting her in.

Cee-c was shown conversing with Leo still on the Tobi-issue. Leo, who is also obviously disturbed by the Miracle/Tobi alliance was seen trying to pitch tent with Cee-c, however Cee-c mentioned to him that the game is more of an individual race than an alliance.

” As far as I am concerned, there is no true alliance or couple in this house, I have not seen any…we are too many for people to be forming this or that,” She said.

“At some point, it is no longer a couple thing but you alone,” She added.

    BBNaija: Housemates in high-spirits

Housemates were left in high spirits last evening as Biggie entertained them to songs by their favourite artistes.

What was simply seen as a request session by Teddy A to listen to some ‘Wizkid’ was granted by Biggie.

Housemates took their turns in dancing to songs from their favourite artistes in front of the mirror.

Ifu continued to thrill the house in an impressive display of twerking, accompanied by BamBam, as Teddy A continued to sing in the background.

If you follow the popular reality show that got Naija talking right now, you will probably see reasons why we have decided to crush on this young man Tobi Bakre.

We are obviously talking about Big Brother Nigeria 2018.

Firstly, BBNaija’s Tobi seems to have some charisma and charm of being a leader. After all, he has won the head of house challenge again making him a 3rd-time Head of House.

Tobi, was born on June 1, 1990 into a family of four. He graduated from the University of Lagos in 2012, where he studied Banking and Finance.

He is the youngest child who enjoys having eggs and plantain.

Tobi, as a multi-talented person, enjoys dancing, poetry, singing drawing and most of all, he has got a passion for photography and honestly, being the third head of house would have been enough to make him our MCM of the week ?.
