Cubana Chief Priest, a prominent businessman and socialite, has addressed the recent funeral of Flavour’s father, which took place in Enugu rather than their home state of Anambra.

He explained that the venue change was due to prevailing insecurity in the region, which he believes is a critical issue that needs urgent attention.

Cubana Chief Priest, who attended the funeral alongside other celebrities, used the occasion to call for unity among Southeasterners to tackle the insecurity challenge.

He emphasised that the region’s prosperity hinges on creating a safe and secure environment for its residents.

In a recent report by The Nation, he shared his personal experiences with insecurity, revealing that he relocated his business to Lagos State due to fears of kidnapping and violence that have driven away customers from the East.

Cubana Chief Priest also expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on the region’s cultural heritage, noting that Flavour’s father’s funeral had to be held in Enugu instead of their ancestral home in Anambra.

He urged traditional leaders, religious leaders, and politicians to collaborate and find solutions to the insecurity crisis.

He said: “This amazing funeral was supposed to be happening in Umunze Anambra State but here we are in Enugu managing it. Umunne, we need to come together and fix this, it’s no longer interesting. We cannot destroy our own because we are being marginalised.

“We must uphold our glory by going back to our peaceful nature. We can only fight back if home is in order for proper planning. If this continues that means they have succeeded in disorganising us.

“Oga Adicha ama, nke di na iru ka. RIP, Papa Ijele Igbo Nile, Papa muru African royalty 2niteflavour ebube agu na eche agu.”

Cubana Chief Priest, Pascal Okechukwu, has pleaded not guilty to the three count charge of Naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Okechukwu remained calm as he took his plea after the charges were read to him.

The defense counsel, Chikaosolo Ojukwu (SAN), had earlier informed the court that he filed two applications on behalf of his client. Ojukwu told Justice Kehinde Ogundare that his client filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to try him, and a bail application. He thus urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

But prosecuting counsel of the EFCC, Bilikisu Buhari, who confirmed service of the two applications, opposed his submission and urged the court to allow the defendant take his plea first.

Ojukwu, who did not object to his client taking his plea, however said: “This is premature. I am just informing the court about the pending applications. If it is just to take his plea, it’s okay but, most times, the court would take objections sometimes before plea. Our contention is for the preliminary objection to be taken first.”

Citing section 396 of ACJA, Ojukwu argued that the offence for which his client was charged is a misdemeanor which carried six months imprisonment or N50,000 fine, or both. He therefore urged the court to exercise discretion in favour of the defendant.

According to him, the defendant has over 1,000 employees who are dependent on his small business.

Citing section 163 ACJA, he urged the court to grant him bail in liberal terms. He also said the defendant has not flouted the administrative bail given to him.

“The defendant is not well; he has palpitation of the heart. I would take him on my honour and perfect bail conditions in 14 days,” he added.

The second surety must be gainfully employed and have property within the court’s jurisdiction, while the title documents of the properties must be verified by the court’s deputy registrar.

Justice Ogundare ordered that the bail conditions be fulfilled within seven days, failure of which the bail will be revoked.

He thereafter adjourned till May 2 for trial and hearing of pending applications bordering on jurisdiction of the court to hear the suit.
