  • Ogun flags off campaign against polio

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged his administration’s unwavering commitment towards revamping the Health Care System at all levels in the state.

Abiodun, who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun stated this at the flag off ceremony of the second round of Polio Outbreak Response Campaign at the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat, Itooro, Ijebu Ode.

The governor, who acknowledged the critical role child’s health plays in the growth and economic development of any given society, assured of his commitment towards ensuring a minimum of one flagship Primary Health Center per ward across the state in the first one hundred days of his administration .

He explained that immunisation has greatly reduced to the barest minimum , the infant mortality rate among children between the age zero to five which he attributed to the improved level of education and awareness in the society.

He said the Polio Outbreak Response Campaign was key to improving the immunity of Children against Type 2 Oral Polio Virus that could cause paralysis and even death among children.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Adesanya Ayinde, described immunisation as one of the potent and cost effective health intervention for the reduction of death among children under the age of five.

He added that health care system would become robust and more affordable under the new administration.

The ceremony, which was organised by the Ogun state Primary Health Care Development Board in conjunction with a number of development partners that include the World Health Organization, Rotary Club International, UNICEF and NPHCDA among others, had their representatives reiterate the partners continued support for the health sector in the state.

  • Flooding: Abiodun urges Ogun residents to stop dumping refuse on drainages

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has advised residents to desist from the habit of dumping refuse on the drainages and other water channels to prevent flooding and the attendant dangers in the state.

Abiodun said the state government would devise a comprehensive plan to address the challenges of waste disposal and flooding, adding that the drains that serve as carriage would be re-designed to accommodate flow of large volume of flood water.

The governor made this known on Monday while on an inspection tour of some parts of Ijebu- Ode  town, including Igbeba, Paramount, Moborode, Italapo, Degun and Imowo- Ibadan roads that were affected by flood few days ago.

He said he decided to visit the affected areas and see first-hand what flood has done to the town, urging the residents to be patient with the state government in its determination to find lasting solution to the menace.

Abiodun noted that he was only fulfilling the promise he made during his campaign not to forget the people if voted into office.

He sympathised with those whose homes were overtaken by the flood, reiterating the need for the people to always clean the drainages close to them to allow for easy flow of water and save the roads constructed with public fund from being washed away.

He said: “From what we have seen here, the biggest problem we have in Ijebu Ode is that the drains that crisscross the town are small concrete drains that are covered, so they don’t allow for maintenance, they are very tiny. Ijebu-Ode will require very big open drains that can easily be serviced and maintained, so we are going to have a comprehensive plan aimed at resolving these problems once and for all.”

  • Gov. Abiodun visits OOUTH after The Nation report

Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun has visited Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) after an investigative report by The Nation Newspaper, detailing the pathetic conditions of the State-owned hospital.

The Nation on Sunday reported about the deplorable state of the hospital.

Titled OOUTH Sagamu: A Teaching Hospital in a mess, the report details tale of obsolete equipment, shortage of staffs, funding and the deplorable state of the emergency unit at the facility.

The governor, in an unscheduled visit after The Nation report, decried the state of the hospital.

He promised a team will be put in place to look at what can be done to salvage it.

Abiodun, in an interview with newsmen shortly after the inspection, expressed dismay over the deplorable conditions of the facility once adjudged the best State-owned teaching hospital in Nigeria.

‘I am putting up a team, after a final report from the Medical Director.

“I don’t see how this place can produce good doctors; we shall go back to drawing board. The place is substandard.

“This hospital is in depressing state. We shall look into facilities and personnel and would soon put up a team, after a final report from the Medical Director, on how to revive the lost glory of the hospital.

“My administration will attach importance to health sector and we are going to turn round the institution for better,” the governor promised.

  • Community association greets Abiodun

The Arepo Central Community Development Association (ACCDA), an umbrella development group comprising about 20 estates and communities in Arepo, has congratulated Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and his deputy Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, as they assume the mantle of leadership of the Gateway State.

The ACCDA prayed that their “administration and tenure in office will usher Ogun State into its greater greatness”.

A statement by its President, Prince Kehinde Adeyemo, said the election of the duo was a positive development and a big relief to the communities and citizens who have, in the last eight years, suffered lack of inclusive governance and poor infrastructural growth.

ACCDA hailed Abiodun on his victory despite huge opposition. It urged him not to forget his electoral promises, which centered on transparency, development, inclusiveness and good governance, to fast-pace growth in the state rather than an “arrogant concentration of infrastructure in one region” of the state.

Adeyemo noted the plight of border communities like Arepo, stressing that the only access road which links the community to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has completely collapsed and become unmotorable, having being abandoned for over eight years and remains a death trap.

“Though the road was said to have been awarded since 2006 to First August Construction Company during the first term of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, there has been no efforts to mobilise the contractor to site, while the former governor turned deaf ears to all pleas by the Arepo community,” he noted.

The president added the association had made several efforts, levying themselves and making monetary contributions to fix the road, not much had been achieved as the road requires government attention with holistic reconstruction.

The road was built by former Governor Gbenga Daniel 15 years ago and has since gone into disrepair. The association president lamented that Arepo Community, which boasts of Journalists Estate, the first of its kind in Africa, and the whole of the world, has, rather than attract the attention and care of the state government, been carelessly and recklessly abandoned by an “unlistening governor”.

  • Don’t treat your political fathers with disdain, bishop tells Abiodun

The Diocesan Bishop of Egba, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Adekunle, on Sunday advised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun not to treat his “fathers-in-politics” with disdain now that he is in power.

Adekunle urged Abiodun to take cognisance of the fact that the political fathers worked assiduously to ensure his victory at the poll.

According to him, Abiodun’s victory didn’t come cheaply given the bumpy roads to it.

Bishop Adekunle gave the advice during his sermon at the post-inauguration thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peters Church, Ake, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He noted that Abiodun stands a better chance of benefiting from relating with the political fathers and the party’s leaders and avoid taking the wrong path of casting them away from his administration.

Adekunle warned the governor to be careful of his political peers as they are likely to become a “thorn in the flesh” of his administration.

Noting that he would refrain from  calling them “god-fathers”, the cleric said  god-fathers and fair-weather friends always see politics as business and as such, unstable and flock the corridors of power “when it is sweet and rosy”.

Citing the gospel of St. Luke, Chapter 14, Adekunle urged Abiodun to also remain steadfast in his fellowship with God and puts Him first in his administration’s agenda.

He said it is only God that enthrones and dethrones leaders, advising the governor to radically transform the current sorry state of education in Ogun to an enviable class.

Advocating for a return of mission schools to their original owners as well as building more classrooms, the bishop also enjoined Abiodun to consider how to prioritise technical education, re-education of teachers in the state as well as making the retirees happy, bearing in mind that his parents too were teachers.

Abiodun declared that he would not abandon any of the ongoing projects, which his predecessor, Ibikunle Amosun, could not complete.

The governor assured the people that his administration would give rural, township and industrial roads a priority attention, in addition to the educational turnaround of the state as well as the plans to providing the needed atmosphere for Public Private Partnership (PPP) investment drive.

He assured that the planned state education summit as well as education master plan that would address the decadence in the sector and return the state to its enviable position will be given a priority.

  • Police arrest 31-yr-old gunman at Ogun gov’s inauguration

The police in Ogun State on Friday confirmed the arrest of 31-year old Oluwaseun Fakoyejo at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, venue of the inauguration of Ogun State Governor Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday May 29.

The arrest of the suspect followed  intelligence  received by the police command that some hoodlums were at the stadium to ferment trouble which made the Police to be more vigilant during the ceremony.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested in the wake of attacks unleashed on people at the stadium shortly after the new governor and dignitaries departed the stadium.

  • Sanwo-Olu, Makinde swing into action

As the new dispensation kicks off, the newly elected governors of Lagos and Ogun States, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun, respectively, have immersed fully in the day to day running of their offices.

In a move widely acknowledged as his first major ameliorative task in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu has taken steps to eradicate the traffic gridlock in Apap. The governor assured, that, there will be a permanent solution to the snarl-up caused by indiscriminate parking of tankers and trailers in Apapa.

The governor, who went on a tour of Apapa and its environs on Thursday evening, to assess the lingering traffic gridlock in the area said, the Lekki and Badagry ports would be developed as a lasting solution to the congestion in Apapa.

Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, and the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, among other top government officials and the federal task force on Apapa, said, the collaboration by the state and federal government and other stakeholders for the completion of the 1,000-capacity Tin Can Ports Truck Terminal by the June deadline would be achieved.

“What is left to complete is the water system, toilet facility and power supply. Once they do that, all the trucks on the Ijora bridge and others within that axis can use it,” he said.

He also said the federal and state governments would involve stakeholders and smaller bonded terminals to ensure that the trucks are cleared from the roads as a short term solution.

Sanwo-Olu, thereafter, met with port operators who listed the challenges facing them at the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and Lilly Port Terminal, while suggesting possible solutions.

The governor expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the federal government’s efforts at ending the crisis and promised that the state government will work with other stakeholders for a lasting solution to the problem.

“We have discovered that the problem of Apapa is multi-faceted; one agency cannot resolve the problem. We have met with security officers and operators on ground. We have seen that the problem is more than what one company can solve,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu also thanked the NPA and Dangote Group for work done on Wharf Road up to the Apapa Ports but expressed regret that in spite of their intervention, trucks still park on the roads.

“From our interactions with stakeholders, it was discovered that NPA has a concession company, APMT, and we also observed that there is a disconnect in the activities of picking and dropping off containers in the Ports.

“One of the strategies is that we will be engaging with NIMASA, shipping councils, NPA and others to resolve the issue, especially on how they can push the commencement date for the collection of demurrage,” the governor said.

He further solicited the cooperation of the Federal Government in evacuating illegal squatters occupying open space within the Tin Can Port premises, just as he expressed optimism on a lasting solution in no distant time.

“The final solution is around the corner; we are hoping in due course, we will get all these issues behind us.

“We need to build another port. We will take it upon ourselves with the support of the NPA to develop the Lekki and Badagry ports,” the governor said.

    Lagos gov appoints

    Chief of Staff, deputy

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu, on Friday afternoon, announced the appointment of Tayo Ayinde as his Chief of Staff (COS) and Gboyega Soyannwo as the deputy COS.

The governor made the disclosure in a statement signed by his deputy Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Gboyega Akosile.

Ayinde, an alumnus of Havard Business School, Boston, USA and the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom UK), is a former security and intelligence personnel. He served as chief security detail to the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from 1999 to 2007.

Ayinde also served as the Director General of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Independent Campaign Group between 2018 and 2019.

Soyannwo, a seasoned banker, has worked in various management capacities between 2005 to 2009, heading various strategic units. Until his recent appointment, Soyannwo was Managing Consultant at Cranbrook Financial Consulting Services.

Makinde reverses appointment of 15 permanent secretaries

In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde, hit the ground running as he reversed the appointment of 15 new permanent secretaries and proscribed the states chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

He reversed the promotion of the permanent secretaries, yesterday, as part of the fulfillment of his promise to review all new contracts and appointments made by the former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, in the last three weeks of his administration.

The Nation gathered that Makinde announced the decision at a meeting he had with all permanent secretaries in the state.

Confirming the development, the spokesman of the Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation, Dotun Oyelade, said: “Governor Makinde will be very consistent and finicky with all his campaign promises and this is not an exception. The governor said, that, all transactions either contractually or in terms of appointments and promotions that were done especially between Monday, March 11 and May 28 would be given closer scrutiny particularly because of the obvious mischief that has been introduced into the whole governance within this period.

“So, it’s true that during the campaign period, the governor promised, that, the people of the state would not have him in the Governor’s Office to embark on distractive traditional probe but the brazen attitude that bothers on attempt to block the success of the current administration has made the governor to decide the latest course of action which is to reverse many of the policies and actions of the Ajimobi administration at the eve of his exit because they were borne out of malice.

“So, just like he made good the promise to cancel the N3,000 paid by parents on their public secondary school children and open the Governor’s Office flyover for every citizen of Oyo State, in the same manner, he is dealing with the issue of the appointment of the permanent secretaries and civil servants.”

In a related incident, Governor Makinde, yesterday, banned all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, in response to the spate of violence attributed to members of the union.

The governor declared the activities of the union illegal, with immediate effect, and proceeded to take over all motor parks and garages in the state.

The government made the announcement in a statement read by Bisi Ilaka, the Chief of Staff (COS) to Governor Makinde, and enjoined the people of the state to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation.

He said, security personnel have been directed to take control and maintain peace and order, and emphasised that the decision was reached after a meeting with security chiefs and government officials.

He said: “All activities of the union remain illegal henceforth and we urge the people of the state to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation, as a combined security task force in every community of the state, has been charged to take control and maintain peace and order.

“To this end, all parks in the state have been taken over by the state government with immediate effect.”

Two factions of the transport union have been at loggerheads since Wednesday, after the inauguration of Governor Makinde.

Members of the rival groups had clashed on Iwo Road, Challenge, Beere and  Ojoo areas of Ibadan.

  • Avoid pitfalls of Amosun, others if you must excel – Cleric tells Abiodun

The Vicar of All Saints Anglican Church, Ilaro, Ven. Stephen Olamilekan Abiodun, on Sunday advised the Governor-elect in Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to avoid the pitfalls of the out-going Governor Ibikunle Amosun, in order to stand out from the rest and excel in office.

Ven. Abiodun urged Abiodun to meticulously study Amosun to ascertain why he came to governance in a blaze of glory at dawn only to start “rushing” to complete at Sunset what he could have easily accomplished in the morning.

The Cleric gave the advice to the successful entrepreneur and oil magnate – turned politician during the pre -inauguration Church service in Ilaro, before leading the congregation to pray for the success of Abiodun’s incoming government in the state.

The Venerable noted that if the Governor-elect could learn useful lessons from the government of Amosun, Gbenga Daniel and others before him, he would be able to steer clear of their pitfalls and end up becoming an “exemplary Governor” for Ogun people.

According to him, Amosun could not complete road projects in the morning, yet he started rushing in the evening and began demolishing things at the eleventh hour as if the tenure would endure till eternity.

Also, the Bishop of Yewa Diocese, Anglican Church, Rev. Michael Oluwarohunbi, in his sermon titled: “Every position has responsibility attached to it,” urged Abiodun to take cognizance of the fact that he has been ” chosen to serve,” and as such, should “be servant of all” Ogun people.

Oluwarhunbi advised him to be wary of sycophants and groups who would cluster at the corridors of office for personal benefits, saying they were the ones that misled his predecessors with self – serving counsels.

The Bishop also advised the Governor – elect to use his administration to address the skewed developments in the state and shun divisive and sectional governance, reminding him that Ogun West people are looking up to him to put a halt to their years of suffering and neglect.

In his response, Abiodun commended the Ogun West people for their support and prayer that ensured his victory at the poll, pledging to run a “mass centric government.”

He said no part of the state would go on receiving state government’s attention to the detriment of others, pledging to embark upon massive roads rehabilitation and reconstruction across the state based on the ones the people considered as their priorities.

Dignitaries at the church service include the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba  Kehinde Olugbenle, Dapo Abiodun’s Deputy; Engr. Noimot Salako – Oyedele, wife of the Governor – elect, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Senator – elect, Ogun West; Tolu Odebiyi, Speaker of the Ogun Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, his Deputy; Kunle Oluomo, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun, former Commissioner in the state, Tony Ojeshina, former Speaker Tunji Egbetokun, Publicity Secretary, Ogun All Progressives Congress(APC) Caretaker Committee, Tunde Oladunjoye  among others.

  • Dapo Abiodun assures on good governance

The Governor – elect in Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday, observed the Jumat prayerat the Central Mosque, Ijebu – Ode, with the Muslim community in the state, in continuation of his pre-inauguration activities.

Abiodun, who was joined in the prayer by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, traditional rulers and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress(APC), assured that he would run a “reliable government that earns the trust of Ogun people.”

The governor-elect, whose Muslim name is Abdulsaheed, expressed his gratitude to the worshippers and the Muslim faithful in general, for their support and prayer towards his electoral victory.

He noted that “with the help of God,” his administration would give the citizens a “peace of mind.”

He promised fair and equitable distribution of developmental projects and infrastructure, stressing, that no part of the state would be left out in the planned major roads’ repairs and rehabilitation through direct labour.

“We will be just, fair, equitable and reliable in our government. With the help of God, the next government will give you peace of mind, because left for man, I won’t be in your midst today, you voted for me and I won’t disappoint you,” Abiodun said.

Earlier, the Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Mufutau Ayanbadejo, in his remarks, advised the governor-elect to acknowledge, that, power and authority proceed from God, and as such, he should used the power entrusted in him by God and the people to address the plight of the downtrodden.

  • Will Dapo Abiodun end Education College crisis?

Outgoing Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, is leaving office in six days, without resolving the crisis at the Tai Solarin College of Education in Omu. Will the incoming Governor Dapo Abiodun bell the cat? This is the question being asked by workers of the institution where the Provost has not been allowed to work since December. ERNEST NWOKOLO reports.

TAI Solarin College of Education, Omu, Ogun State which first took off at Ijagun, over 30 years ago, was established by the Ogun State government to provide middle-level manpower for primary and secondary schools.

To a great extent, that objective was consistently met when the institution was at its initial location in Ijagun.  This is evident in the thousands of seasoned National Certificate of Education (NCE) products it churned out over the years.

However, trouble started when it was upgraded to a full -fledged University of Education in 2005, by the then Gbenga Daniel administration, resulting in the NCE and B.Ed programmes being run simultaneously. The University of Education arm soon became the darling of everybody following better government funding and soaring students patronage.  But the fortunes of the College of Education (COE) dwindled as it was starved of funds.

In 2008, the crisis appeared to have momentarily subsided when Daniel relocated the COE arm of TASUED to Omu town to stand alone.  The problem resurfaced a few years later and degenerated into the major crisis it is today.

This year, little progress has been made with the academic calendar.  Since January, there has been a battle between the college management and workers over salary arrears and underfunding, such that both parties are alleging threats against their lives.

The crisis threatens the little progress recorded with the granting of approval to the college by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence award of Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in affiliation with the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye.

The fate of over 3,000 students is in limbo as they face frustration over the waste of valuable time and resources and stand the risk of losing a whole academic session due to the on – going work to rule action embarked upon by the TASCE workers under the aegis of Coalition of TASCE Staff (COTAS) led by Comrade Daniel Aborisade.

The Nation gathered that new students for the degree and National Certificate of Education (NCE) programmes have not had orientation and matriculation for the 2018/2019 academic session, months after resumption, due to the crisis.

Also, the NCE II and III students have not written the first semester examinations – an indication that they may spend  an extra year, if the crisis persists.

One of the NCE III students, Miss Funmi Adebola, told this reporter that the college was toying with students’ future with no solution in sight.

She claimed  that underfunding of the college by the state government was at the root of the matter.

Speaking on the matter, the college’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Fisayo Olajide, said the strike by COTAS has continued despite all entreaties from Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, the House Committee on Education and even the  Governor-elect, as  the Aborisade-led Coalition has remained adamant.

She said many well-meaning individuals, including Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Adekunbi Suraj, members of the House Committee on Education and the Governor-elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun had all intervened to resolve the issue but to no avail.

The crisis has spiraled into confrontations between the workers and the Provost, Dr Lukmon Adeola Kiadese.

Checks by The Nation revealed that as of this week, the workers were being owed 78 months’ salary arrears totalling N4.7 billion. Part of the arrears, however, predates the current administration.

Workers said about 49 employees of the college have died due to lack of  money to feed properly and seek prompt medical attention, which many workers said could have been avoided if they were paid.

Kiadese  had to bear the brunt of the workers’ anger. But he said the college had no funds to defray such huge salary arrears, pledging to settle it gradually as resources improve.  However, the workers, weary of such promises, ordered him and Bursar to relocate to the Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office, since last December, never to return to Omu until Governor Ibikunle Amosun answered them.

Nevertheless, that has paled compared to what has happened on campus this month. Workers’ protests have featured, barricading  all access gates to the school, and allegedly lacing the premises with fetish concoctions, ostensibly to scare the Provost away.

Last week, the workers conducted funeral wake for the Provost. They fried bean cake, locally called akara, and burnt his portrait and pictures in front of the college.

The workers, under COTAS, are calling for the termination of his appointment, accusing him of embezzling the college’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and spending it on frivolities.

They also reported him to anti – graft agencies, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Code of Conduct Bureau, demanding a probe into the management of the college’s IGR under his watch.

The workers also erected a three-foot wall to barricade the office of the Provost and barred him from further entry to his office, even as they used heavy chain and lock to padlock the school gate;  preventing the management, staff and students from gaining access.

Kiadese was not silent.  But his reaction was adjudged brutal by the angry workers.  They were assaulted by soldiers who stormed the school to break the protest allegedly on the Provost’s orders.

Defending himself, Kiadese said the action of the aggrieved workers constituted grave threat and embarrassment to him and ran foul of Dapo Abiodun’s plea for peace on the campus.

“Despite the fact that Governor-elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had pleaded with those illegal unions, led by Aborisade, they remained hell bent on destroying the image and academic pursuit of the college.  Is that not lawlessness on their side to kick against what the governor-elect said?  I can say it boldly that I am not the one owing them; it is the government. They should go to Oke-Mosan and be doing all these there, not in the campus of learning,” Kiadese said.

Kiadese also told The Nation that the allegation of embezzlement of the school’s IGR  was false, stressing that he expended N111m of IGR to settle workers’ salary, carried out developmental projects and  financed the first accreditation of programmes, among others.

He said: “The allegation of using the IGR of the college to do Father Christmas is baseless and malicious. The IGR of the college has been expended to pay part of arrears of salary of staff. About N111 million has been paid from the IGR of the college to the staff.

“The IGR of the college was also expended to finance the first accreditation exercise in the college. The college has full accreditation status in all her 27 academic programmes from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

“The IGR was used to finance Degree Assessment resource in affiliation with Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago iwoye. The college has been granted approval to run Degree programme by the National Universities Commission.

“The IGR was also used to augment the payment of 100 per cent staff salary in January, February and March 2019. In addition to the payment of salary arrears, the IGR was used to reposition and turn around the fortunes of the college in the last two years. The college has been rated as the seventh best College of Education in Nigeria.”

The Provost also said the IGR was used to finance the first public lecture of the college, relocate the administrative and academic hub to the permanent site as well as open the college main gate and network of roads.

To address the crisis,  Kiadese called on COTAS executive to give peace a chance and allow normalcy to return to the institution.

He lamented that the activities of COTAS had adversely affected the smooth take-off of the degree programmes, and worried that the college could lose an academic session to the protracted crisis.

But COTAS Chairman, who  listed the workers’ demand to include payment of 54 months salaries, composition of a governing council, implementation of promotion with effect from 2015 and payment of eight years’ pension arrears, recall of union leaders and  remittance of cooperative deductions, said they would not relent on their work to rule stance until their demands were met.

He accused the Provost of inviting soldiers to unleash terror on them, lamenting that some of his colleagues were wounded and hospitalised following  the attack.

He also dismissed the allegation by the Provost that members of COTAS were threatening his life, and challenged him to produce evidence of such threat.

“We are not  a threat to his life. It is far from the truth.  Ask him to present empirical evidence or better still drag us to police/ court if he is sure of the allegation. He is just trying to give dog  a bad name just to hang it.

“We should rather accuse him of killing 49 of us due to non-payment of 54 months’ salaries to us and turning most of us into moving corpses.

“We accused him of embezzling close to N400million of our IGR.  He has been reported to EFCC, ICPC and Code of Conduct Bureau.

“He and the Bursar have been asked to relocate their offices to governor’s office since December 2018 to get us our 54 months’ salaries which he has not been able to do hence our insistence not allowing him back on campus.

“He brought soldiers to unleash terror on us last Monday (penultimate week).  Seven of our members were wounded; they stripped some of our women; our cars damaged while 17 gun shots were fired by the soldiers. He is sending cultists after us.”

Aborisade also said the workers did not want the Provost anymore, referring to him as Amosun’s appointee.

“We asked the governor to remove him as he is not qualified ab initio, he has been rejected by majority of us.  He spends our IGR prodigally; we are all out to make peace in the college. The college belongs to us; he is just an appointee of the governor; he is not part of us.

“As we speak, we are being owed 30 months salaries and 48 months salaries arrears culminating into the sum of N4.7 billion as fund needed to defray our salaries.

“We are on work to rule in the last three weeks to further press home our demands. The provost is less concerned with our welfare, since November 2018 that we have started this struggle, he has not been able to mobilise funds from the state government and our IGR to pay part of our salaries and arrears,” Aborisade said.

The COTAS chair also accused the Provost of not being truthful, recalling that when the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, claimed the government was not owing TASCE workers and he was asked to respond to the claim, Kiadese declined comments.

Aborisade hopes the new Government coming into power would right all wrongs.

“We are optimistic that the incoming government will be able to address our demands. Every government ought to be proactive and responsive to workers’ plights and since that is not the case with the present government, we are hopeful that the next one will be progressive and listen to workers. If it does not, it will also be fire for fire,” he said.

In less than a week, Governor Ibikunle Amosun will leave office.  The lingering crisis may perhaps become the first litmus test on the competence of the incoming government.  How Dapo Abiodun will resolve the many challenges in the state’s education sector is yet to be seen.
