Man, daughter ‘steal’ two-month old baby

•’I found baby under Oyingbo bridge’

The police have arrested a house painter, Jamiu Jimoh, and his birth attendant daughter, Yetunde Osin, for allegedly stealing a two-month old baby girl from its mother.
Jimoh, a 65-year-old divorcée, and Osin, a 35-year-old spinster, were arrested in possession of the baby by a team of police detectives from the Igbgbo Police Station, Ikorodu, Lagos following a tip off.
The police source said the suspects are part of a child stealing and selling syndicate.
The Nation learnt that Osin practices her birth attendant trade at her 4, Kadara Street residence in Oyingbo.
It was learnt that on November 9, Osin helped a 28-year-old woman, Stella to deliver a baby girl at her home. She was said to have told the woman that the child was dead and even showed the mother a dead child. She then brought the baby to her father in Ikorodu.
But Osin disputed the story, saying she found the baby under a bridge near her Oyingbo home.
She said: “On November 9, I was walking along the road in Oyingbo. I found a baby on the ground. It was a female child, so I took it. That was the mistake I made. I should have gone to report to the police, but because it was a female baby, I liked it. That was how I took the baby home. But when I saw how everyone was behaving, gossiping, I brought the baby to my father in Ikorodu, so that I could be taking care of her from there. Even when I couldn’t come to Ikorodu from Oyingbo, my father was there to take care of her. On Sunday after leaving his home, someone called me at night that my father had been arrested.
“I am a hairdresser, but I am also a traditional birth attendant. The baby wasn’t born at my place. I wasn’t the one that helped the mother of the child deliver the baby. But when the police heard that I was a traditional birth attendant and questioned me about whether I assisted the baby’s mother during delivery, I said yes.
“I found the baby under the bridge on Apapa Road, Oyingbo. The baby has been with me since November.”
Jimoh, who lives on 4, Aro Street, Ikorodu, also denied having knowledge that the baby was stolen.
He confirmed to Lateef Akinborode, Executive Director, Community Women’s Rights Foundation (CWRF), Igbogbo, Ikorodu that the baby was found in his possession.
In an audio interview with Akinborode, made available to The Nation, Jimoh said: “She (Osin) is not the baby’s mother. She was not pregnant. I don’t know the baby’s mother. My daughter has never brought children to me to take care of before.”

  • About Orji Kalu’s daughter’s proposed wedding

Once bitten, twice shy seems to be the new watchword for Neya Kalu. The daughter of former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has been treading with extreme caution even as her marriage date to Lawrence Iyere approaches.

Going by the latest development, it would seem that the beautiful Neya has decided that a failed relationship is better than a broken marriage, as the traditional wedding scheduled for December 28 was cancelled, though some people say it was merely postponed to next year.

Since her relationship with Chima Anyaso, boss of Ceecon Oil and Gas, hit the rocks some years ago, the young woman has learnt to keep her eyes open to ensure she does not fall twice into the same trap. And for a while since she met businessman Lawrence in the UK while pursuing a degree, it seemed that she had finally found the right man. They had a lavish engagement ceremony in August and for a while all seemed well.

According to whispering birds, it was not long after the ceremony that Neya began to wonder if Cupid’s arrow had shot the right man into her heart, leading to her decision to cancel the relationship. Some are however saying that the marriage was only postponed till February next year for some personal reasons. Time, as always, will tell.

  • Orji Kalu’s daughter finally set to wed

This year promises to be an extra-festive affair in the family of ex-Abia State governor, Orji Kalu. Besides the usual glitz associated with Christmas in his kind of household, the family is also preparing for the wedding of their beloved daughter, Neya Kalu, who got engaged in August.

The big event is set for Boxing Day at Kalu’s country home in Abia.

Neya, Kalu’s daughter, has had to overcome several hurdles, some self-made, to come this far. Perhaps it was her desire to escape the unending recriminations from her failed marriage to Igbo big boy, Chima Anyaso, that took her to the University of Buckingham where fate had a gift in store for her in the person of her groom-to-be. It was while pursuing her master’s degree that she met her soon-to-be-husband, Lawrence Iyere, who runs a thriving business. The two fell in love and the rest is about to become history on December 26.

Not the threats of economic recession could stop the charming head honcho of NESTOIL from putting on a spectacular show of opulence at the wedding of his daughter in Okija, Anambra State.

At the occasion, the bride shone like a million stars, dazzling the assemblage of eminent personalities who thronged the legendary town to witness the couple’s union. But it was the lavish display of wealth that caught most people off guard as they had expected a modest celebration due to the well documented struggles of the bride’s father.

But that does not obscure the fact that the fun-loving dude, fondly called Obijackson by admirers, has been engaged in some struggles of late. This is best exemplified by the fact that construction has stalled on his private mega mansion in Ikoyi, Lagos.

  • Lafiaji’s daughter shuns romance after crashed marriage

Lafiaji’s daughter shuns romance after crashed marriage

The test of mettle does not lie in never falling on the slippery slopes of life but in standing up each time one falls. And this assertion is true for beauties as it is for the rest of us.

Salamatu Lafiaji, daughter of Senator Shaaba Lafiaji, a former governor of Kwara State, remains undaunted in the midst of life’s challenges that have made the beautiful woman eschew the allures of romantic entanglement. And this is in spite of the queue of eligible bachelors who have been knocking on the door of her heart without success.

Unlike other women who derive joy from tormenting prospective suitors, Salamatu’s reluctance has to do with her previous unsavoury experience in marriage. She was once married to Nollywood high flier, Ibrahim Chatta, but the union was unable to survive the first few challenges that came its way and it crashed down to earth faster than a malfunctioning rocket, leaving unpleasant memories in the minds of everyone involved.

While Ibrahim has since made another attempt at a happy marriage, Salamatu has turned her back on romance, taking solace in her business endeavours, even as she has gone back to using her maiden name.

They abducted her with pregnancy and she had my grandchild there but I’m just grateful to God and the government for returning my daughter and grandchild to me safely.  Words cannot describe how I feel at the moment.”

Deborah is the only one among the girls who returned with a baby.

Mrs Rifkatu John, carried her daughter Jummai Bakwa, on her back, with her wrapper like a baby.

She refused to leave her daughter throughout the event . She said: “I never thought that I would see my daughter again in this life time; I prayed so much for her safe return and here she is finally. I just want to give God all the glory and thank the government for bringing her back.  I pray that the other Chibok mothers have the opportunity to see their daughters again and experience the joy I feel today,” she said.

Father of Grace Gaphani said:  ”I am grateful to God and Nigerians for not forgetting us, I had lost hope, I never thought that I would see my daughter again but God returned her to me, I am so grateful to God for giving me another chance with my daughter, I am entrusting my daughter in the care of the government, let them take care of her, give her all the education she wants, even if it means taking her to America, I give them the permission to do it. She has always wanted to be educated, now I want the government to help her attain the level of education she wants to attain.”

Chairman of the Chibok parents Association, Yakubu Nkeki said the parents would not be returning home with the girls. “They have not been handed over to their parents completely because they are still undergoing some trauma counselling, we are not taking them back home with us, they are going to remain with the government, to ensure their welfare and health before they are handed to us.

”We pleading with the government to find a reasonable school for them, we want them to continue with their education.”

Nkeki also lamented the negative news making the rounds on the social media about the girls being ill and pregnant which according to him is not true.” I have gone on the Internet and seen so many negative stories concerning our girls, some people say they are sick, some say pregnant and so many things but here we are today and our daughters are not looking ill or pregnant, they recognised us as soon as we arrived and were so excited, I just want people to stop spreading bad news about our daughters, people should please wait, verify before spreading news.”
