The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker said he would no longer tolerate ill treatment this year, vowing that he would retaliate against any bad treatment.

On his X handle, he wrote: “Anybody wey do me bad go collect this year one by one just Dey watch … e don start already.”

Recall that Davido recently came under fire after a note under his post on X announcing the launching of his meme coin $Davido said it was fraudulent.

The Coalition of Orphanages and Children’s Homes In Nigeria (COCHIN), has heaped praises on music star David ‘Davido’ Adeleke for donating a whopping sum of N300 million to a total of 42 orphanages across Nigeria.

In a letter of appreciation to the father of four, the COCHIN stressed that no other Nigerian has ever donated magnanimously to the orphanages, even the government.

“We are very happy to note that no other Nigerian has ever done this for the orphanages, nor has the government given us such magnanimous support before.

“This support which is a demonstration of your commitment to social responsibility and loving care to these forgotten Nigerian children will go a very long way in making a profound impact in their lives. These less privileged children and orphans are grateful that you have done this for them as well as inspiring those of us who are the managers in the implementation of sustainable caregiving initiatives generally.”

Earlier in the year, Davido promised to donate a whopping sum of N300m to orphanages across the country.

He wrote on X: “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the nation.”

He began the donation after his 30th birthday where he got over N100m in donations from friends, associates, and colleagues to celebrate the milestone age. He donated the entire sum to orphanages and has made the donation to orphanages an annual ritual.

  • Wizkid, Davido: Best friends or foes?

Wizkid, Davido: Best friends or foes?

It is unsure if the seeming rivalry between Nigerian Afrobeats stars Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid and David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido will come to an end anytime soon.

The two music stars have been at it for almost a decade and no one seems to have had a headway in offering truce.

It is largely believed that both Wizkid and Davido are two of the top tier music stars from Nigeria, who have achieved so much for themselves on the global music scene.

Although it’s uncertain what ignited the feud between Wizkid and Davido, the rivalry is as old as Yemi Alade’s first album, ‘King of Queens,’ which is a decade old.

Davido and Wizkid’s are neither friends nor foes and have had a love-hate relationship fuelled by continued competition that has remained tools in the hands of their respective camps and fan bases.

While Davido leads the camp 30BG on social media, Wizkid has behind him and for him, the Wizkid FC. The two camps regularly await a tweet from each of the singers to begin trolling the other camp.

Wizkid and Davido’s feud recently reached what seemed like its peak on April 29, 2024, with both music stars engaging in name-calling on micro-blogging social media platform, X. The actions of both parties evoked mixed feelings with some getting amused and others in dismay.

“It no longer matters how their quarrel started. They are simply badly behaved adults and parents. But clearly, they are both being handled by poor and immature teams. That’s instructive,” Olawale Olaleye, Deputy Editor, This Day Newspaper reacted. “It’s not a function of age. That would be a lame pretext. It’s much they know. Delusional, in fact! It’s, however, disappointing to watch them relish in the folly of their ignorance. Entertainers in the mud.”

According to some industry watchers, it all began on July 28, 2014, when Wizkid tweeted what was perceived to be a shade at Davido after his show his New York and ahead of his London concert. In the tweet, Wizkid wrote, “I already killed NY!! London 26th Sept!! Manchester 28th sept!!! Big surprise!! Still proper shows!! proper venues!!! #fuckboysuckadick!!”

While Davido believed the tweet was directed at him, Wizkid insisted his tweet was about the bad sound system he had experienced at a previous concert. Both singers both opened up on the tweet to Olisa Dibua in two separate interviews in 2016.

In 2017, Davido had taken to Snapchat where he claimed pon pon sound is the popping sound and all other sounds were less in the industry. The post was alleged, by fans and industry watchers, to be shots at Wizkid after he teased fans with his third album ‘Sound From The Other Side’.

On July 5, 2017, it seemed Wizkid got the alleged shade and responded with a tweet taking an alleged swipe at Davido’s voice. “My people make una remember to say Yankee passport no be baba blue, e no dey cure frog voice.”

This went on to become a trend as Davido took it in his stride and even went on to make a frog diamond pendant.

2018 brought about what many considered as the year of relative peace in their public and private relationship as the singers decided to sheath their swords. In an interview with Native Magazine, Davido disclosed that the tension in their respective camps got physical between their fans and they decided to sheath the sword and move on.

To further announce the relative peace, 2018 recorded the first performance of Davido and Wizkid on the same stage together at their respective shows. Wizkid first performed at Davido’s 30 BG concert and subsequently, Davido performed at Wizkid’s Eko Hotel Concert on Dec 24, 2018.

2019 also saw both music stars enjoying a good relationship as Davido acknowledges Wizkid’s congratulatory message after the birth of his son while also congratulating Wizkid for his O2 Arena concert.

The relative peace continued till 2020 when Davido said he unsuccessfully tried to make an album and go on tour with Wizkid in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. Davido claimed Wizkid and his team were being evasive and the idea was literally dead on arrival.

Some of Wizkid’s fans alleged the interview was not taken by Wizkid in good stride as he seemed to have deliberately snubbed Davido while responding to other artists, who congratulated him on the feat on X after he posted the completion of his ‘Made In Lagos’ album.

The action further confirmed both singers have resumed hostilities.

It continued in 2021 when Wizkid collaborated with Burna Boy on the song, ‘Ballon d’Or,’ amidst Burna Boy’s feud with Davido. Many in the 30BG camp believed Wizkid took a side and the hostilities resumed in full swing.

However, in 2022, Davido was hit by a tragic blow when he lost his first son, Ifenayi Adeleke. At the time, Wizkid was planning to release his fifth album ‘More Love, Less Ego’ but after the incident the father of four pushed back the release of the album to commiserate with Davido.

The heartwarming gesture suggested to many that all was well again between both artists and this relative peace was further when in January 2023, Wizkid announced a joint tour with Davido – three years after Davido claimed he tried to make it work without success.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Wizkid took to his Instagram page to announce that he would be going on tour with Davido. “After my ‘MLLE (More Love, Less Ego)’ tour!! Davido and I going on tour! save your coins! I no wan hear pim,” he announced.

Few months later, Wizkid posted Davido’s fourth album ‘Timeless’ and shut everyone up to show that they were both on good terms.

In the same year, Davido granted an interview and blamed the fan bases for sparking most of the issues between him and Wizkid.

And to wrap up the year, Davido and Wizkid both partied at an event in Lagos.

Hostilities resumed in 2024 after fans claimed one of Davido’s tweets on his collaboration with Kizz Daniel on X was a snide remark aimed at Wizkid. It took Wizkid three months to dish the same and this time, he trolled Davido with a viral video of him crying.

Interestingly, both music stars have similar taste in luxurious lifestyle. From choice cars to palatial homes and women, Davido and Wizkid seem to share same taste. Despite the two music stars flaunting their partners, Chioma is to Davido what Jada Pollock is to Wizkid, they both have children from other women.

Similarly, Davido and Wizkid are not both not married to the mothers of their first children.

However, they differ in  fun places. Davido prefers hanging out with his team at Cubana night club and few other places when in Nigeria while Quilox is home for Wizkid.

Internationally, both music stars have done well for themselves musically. Winning several notable industry awards and getting nominations at others including Grammys, MOBO awards, BET awards, and others. They have both collaborated with some American music stars including Chris Brown and Akon.

Again, Davido landed a cameo appearance in the sequel to Eddy Murphy’s ‘Coming 2 America’ while Wizkid is yet to get a feature in local or international films.

Outside Nigeria, for fans and support, Davido is to the United States of America what Wizkid is to the United Kingdom.

“It is a country with a population that is unmatched anywhere else in Africa. Over 240 million Nigerians. So I want you to continue to remain a great Ambassador of our country. Don’t allow anybody to drag you into politics. Continue to do your best in the entertainment industry.”

Akpabio added: “For us in the political arena, we value talents and what God has given to you, nobody can take it away from you. We do everything possible to support the industry. To support talented people like you. All we need also is patience and prayers so that we can succeed.

“The entertainment industry is like a pyramid. You start from the ground until you get there. When you are on top, your own way is how to remain there. So anybody who walks on a tightrope must learn how to do the balancing act. And so, your job is to remain there.”

He added: “Our prayer is that God should sustain you there and continue to give you more wisdom and more talent for you to continue to make Nigeria proud. We are very proud of you.”

On his part, Davido informed the Senate President of his Foundation and how it has been of great assistance to orphanages.

Senate President Akpabio showered encomiums on Davido for his dedication and urged other celebrities and wealthy individuals to follow his example.

  • The trials of Davido

    The trials of Davido

David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido has been in the eye of storm at different points in his life and music career.

At 31 with four kids, an envious music career and success in life, Davido has continued to attract drama and controversies to himself while some have seen him as a perfect target to trend. In ten years, the singer has lost five aides to the fangs of death – the last being his favourite security aide, Tijani Olamilekan aka TJ. Others include Fortunate Ateumunname Peter aka Fortune, Uthman aka Obama DM, Tagbo Umeike, and Olu Abiodun aka DJ Olu, his first official DJ and late son of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

The year 2024 kicked off again with Davido enmeshed in a multiplicity of claims bordering on cyber-bullying and threat to life despite allegations levelled against him by former signee, Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, aka Peruzzi.

In a 2023 podcast, Peruzzi narrated how someone planted a fetish item in his jacket while he was staying at Davido’s house in Lagos.

In his words, “While I was staying at Davido’s house, one evening I took a shower and then went to the wardrobe to dress, I wore my shirt and pants. And then one jacket was just telling me, ‘Wear me, wear me.’ I don’t know how to explain this but I carried the jacket and while I was trying to wear it, something fell and I looked and I saw jazz tied and everything. Juju, better juju in my room in a jacket that just came from the laundry. Na say my head strong na e make I see am.”

From Sophie Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child and daughter, to award-winning songstress Tiwa Savage and Nigerian Sports topshot, Amaju Pinnick, Davido had one case or the other to answer in 2024. While Sophie Momodu and Tiwa Savage’s petitions remain pending, Davido has entered an agreement to settle out of court with Pinnick.

Many times, fans, critics and industry watchers wonder why it seems Davido unbottles drama and controversy every month. Between January and May 2024, Davido has had to contend with several drama and controversies.

His long term running feud with Wizkid resurfaced in the last five months and the music stars dragged themselves to the gutter on social media. The two, urged on by their fans and followers, had a field day dishing out invectives and soiling each other’s name in the mud.

Just as the dust from the unending feud with Wizkid seemed to be clearing out, Davido’s former signee and colleague, Dammy Krane resumed hostilities with the Atlanta-born singer. Dammy Krane fired the first salvo by recording a song with controversial singer Portable to throw shades at Davido. He didn’t stop at that, the singer went further to claim that the DMW boss lost his son only a week after an altercation with him.

“A week after @davido tried me he lost his son, i don’t wish that on my enemy but god has a way of teaching people lessons especially those that feel “na them get the final say,” Dammy Krane tweeted on X.

And just as that was settling off with the wind, Davido, again, is in the news for sacking an integral member of his crew, Bobo Ajudua, son of Fred and Queen Ajudua. Reports claimed that Davido sacked Ajudua after claims of alleged fraud. Though the singer had put a disclaimer to the report saying it was a mutual business agreement for both individuals to part ways and they still have a good personal relationship. The news of Ajudua’s sack from the Davido’s management had been going on for sometime with both parties keeping sealed lips until the singer put out a disclaimer on Wednesday, May 15 while attending his favourite uncle’s 64th birthday in Osun state.

Despite all the allegations, claims and drama, one thing is certain, Davido’s generosity remains legendary. The music star has continued to wow fans and colleagues with his benevolence. Recently, he took his philanthropic gestures a notch higher when he ‘blessed’ a female attendee of his concert at the Madison Square Garden with the sum of 50,000 (N50 million) on April 17, 2024.
