  • Davido flaunts jewellery gifts ahead of birthday

Ahead of his 26th birthday which comes on Wednesday, hip hop star and record label owner, David Adeleke, aka Davido, has taken to social media to flaunt his early birthday gifts.

The gifts include a white studded Richard Mille watch and a stone-encrusted necklace and pendant, while the artiste told his fans to wait for the third gift.

Tagging Richard Mille, the watch brand and Bernard Collignon on Instagram, it is likely the watch was a gift from Collignon, a FIFA/FFF Licensed Players’ Agent according to his Instagram bio. On Saturday, Collignon posted a picture of himself and Davido on Instagram and the watch was seen on Collignon’s wrist as he made the peace sign.

The ‘Assurance’ crooner joined other African celebrities to perform at the One Africa Music Fest which held in Dubai over the weekend.

The second gift was a stone-encrusted neck chain with a pendant with the inscription ‘Baddest 7’ on it for which the singer tagged and thanked Ice Box, US-based makers of diamonds and watches.

Displaying the jewellery in its box, he wrote; “Just picked up my new Piece!!! 2nd Bday gift! Just watch out for the 3rd Gift! Para! Thank you @icebox.”

In a third picture which Davido posted on Instagram, three neck laces, also with stone-encrusted pendants can be hanging on what looks like a shirt and jacket.

    “T R I F A C T O R @icebox << follow my family,” he wrote.

Recently, Davido had asked his fans to raise money and buy a N30m Patek Phillipe wristwatch for his birthday.

“All I want for my birthday…pls friends and family gather money buy am for me thanks in advance,” he captioned the photo of the wristwatch.

  • Artiste tasks Nigerian musicians on originality

A UK-based Nigerian artiste, Edmund Spice, on Friday urged contemporary musicians to experiment more with different sounds to avoid monotony.

Spice told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that some Nigerian music sounds were becoming monotonous, as they sounded like earlier ones.

“Some of our artistes prefer to toe the lines of other people’s work rather than being original, which is why majority of our musicians sound the same.

“They copy another’s success rather than create theirs. In our time it was different; if you are listening to “Ras Kimono“ it is him.

“If it is ‘Alex O’ it is him, Alex Zitto, Onyeka Onwenu, Sunny Okosun, they all sound different; if you are listening to Edmund Spice, you are listening to him.

“But now if you listen to 10 different songs, the artistes and the beats will sound the same; they need to go back to the drawing board and experiment on different sounds and lyrical content,’’ he said.

Spice said that such a thing happened before when there was a gap, around 2006, and Innocent Idibia quickly grabbed the opportunity to come out with something new.

He said that “African Queen’’ was a new song that heralded what is happening now.

“African Queen was good and different; If you listen to David Adeleke aka ‘Davido’ with ‘Skelewu’, it was different; his ’30 billion in your account’ was different.

“So, the present musicians need to be different or they become stagnant.

“If they continue with follow follow thing as Nigerians would say, then they would go into oblivion,’’ the artiste said.

According to him, originality is why stars like Davido  and 2baba will continue to make it and some other artistes copying them will not.

“This is because when they want to come out, they will come out with a different thing and move on, then everyone would want to make their style; it does not work like that,” he said.

Spice said that things would change if everyone did his or her stuff and became original.

He said that the lyrical content was not much of a problem, as it was good for the new generation.

“Don’t forget that during our own time, our fathers were listening to ‘Bobby Bare’, so it is a generational thing. They have created their own style.

“The only problem is the rhythm, not the lyrics. Somebody has to create something new and this is the time.

“The vacuum is there right now, it is choking, so somebody has to come out with a new thing,’’ he said.

Spice said that he had not quit music and that was why he came back to Nigeria to collaborate with other musicians on new songs.

The international artiste studied at St. John Bosco College, Ubiaja, Esan, South-East Local government Area, Edo State.

Some of his songs are “Baby Can I Hold you Tonite“; “More than Anything“; “Iyeny“;  and “Woman“, among others.

  • DAVIDO wears PDP Agbada on uncle’s campaign

IN an effort to ensure success for his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the Osun State gubernatorial election which holds today, hip hop mega star, Davido, on Thursday stormed Osogbo, the state capital.

Davido had registered National Youth Service Corps in Lagos recently but never particpated in camp activities as he jetted out for a US tour which was cancelled because of Hurricane Florence.

Since the aborted tour, Davido has gone to Osun to campaign for his uncle who has been described as the ‘dancing senator’ because of his love for dancing.

On Thursday, he posted a picture where he is wearing an Agbada in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) colours of green, red and white and with the letters, PDP, embroidered on it, on Instagram.

“Osogbo Mega rally today,” he wrote.

“@ademolaadeleke_01 victory awaits You and the Beautiful People of the state of Osun.”

While many fans have hailed the star for campainging for his uncle, others have lamblasted him.

A commenter, juliusibe32, wrote, “OBO victory is ours… hope say you go remember me for paradise,” while another commenter, ndidinwachukwu1989, wrote, “Ur so called uncle wanna be a Governor….. What has he done for his pple! Governor my ass.”

  • ‘EFCC did not freeze Adelekes’ accounts’

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied freezing the bank accounts of Sen. Ademola Adeleke and those of his family members, including popular musician, Davido.

Adeleke is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Sept. 22 governorship election in Osun.

Spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Sunday, said media publications alleging the account freeze by the EFCC were false.

“The commission calls on members the public to disregard the report, which is patently false and contrived to dress the agency with a partisan garb in the unfolding political contest in Osun State.

“For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did the EFCC place a freeze order on any account belonging to members of the Adeleke family.

“The purported freeze order which has unfortunately been amplified by pliable sections of the media without any attempt at confirmation, is alien to the commission and another example of fake news.

“The EFCC frowns at the seeming attempts by faceless forces to drag it into the political fray,” he said.

Uwujaren restated the commission’s “neutrality as a law enforcement organisation that is sworn to uphold the law at all times, irrespective whose interest is at stake.”(NAN)
